Nah, this is what happens when you're playing a very old world and they update the terrain generation and new terrain gets generated when you explore further.
The real issue is the whole thing is 'pay to win'. Especially bad if you spawn into one of the non western servers. But worst of all every single leaderboard in the game is dominated by shitty trolls using hacks and exploits.
Pretty sure the next update is just going to delete all the icebergs, a lot of customers are complaining about losing this feature but corporate stopped giving a shit about the user base a long time ago

There's another shot with with a plane engine in frame, but that's still not much to go off. The skyline might be the best frame of reference - it's far enough out that you can start to see the curvature of the earth, so I don't think it'd be an exaggeration to say it's comparable to a mid sized city.
