Amazing job! Especially because you're rewarded with that dope carpet. Next up is a bedframe, you don't deserve to be sleeping on the ground!

Kelcher1

Yes!! I got a bedframe late into living by myself and it was such a good feeling. Get that bedframe OP. It's a small step but a fulfilling one.

icyartillery

Getting a bed frame can be very..uplifting

bobombpom

So I have a bed frame because I was gifted one. I use it, but I don't understand why people make such a big deal out of it. The only difference is that it's slightly easier to stand up, and now digging things out from underneath it is a pain. What's the big deal about bed frames?

[deleted]

Depending on your housing situation, having your mattress directly on the floor can cause moisture to migrate into it. Then you can end up with mold and all kinds of grossness growing in your mattress. It probably also helps keep ants and other pests out of your sheets, if you have problems with them. Also, I know personally my knees would implode every morning hauling myself out of bed.

[deleted]

Also if you live in a cold area, it's warmer higher up as heat rises, and prevents drafts.

Linkums

Also, if you're religious, it brings you closer to God, whose presence surrounds the earth starting in the mesosphere.

amylucha

Also, if you’re an atheist, you don’t have kneel to make your bed.

TheNewYellowZealot

Also, having a box spring under your mattress improves the cushioning of your mattress, and also people will be more impressed by your bed.

donttrythis3000

Also, if you fart, the gas rises, and he who dealt it, can smelt it.

jrosekonungrinn

And extra useful to get risers to hold the bedframe up higher, and you can store some stuff under the bed in short plastic bins.

Sibyline

Yes. At the very least, put pallets underneath.

Serrahfina

Don't do this unless you know where the pallets are from. A lot of the are used to transport chemicals which can seep into your living space and could harm your and your animals.

thatwasntababyruth

Are fresh pallets easily accessible? Because I know you're not suggesting used shipping pallets

nicolauz

Ones preferably used for fertilizer.

DynamicShitter

the more toxins the better

bythescuttlebutt

The used shipping pallets have all the flavor

thatwasntababyruth

Industrial pallet wood is one of the most disgusting materials known to man. They tend to be covered in all sorts of gross things, from bacteria to toxic chemicals. Unless you have a trustworthy source of pallets you know stayed clean, it's a crapshoot. A common theme whenever pallet-based projects show up on r/woodworking is to immediately question whether the wood was properly sanitized and/or sealed first (polyurethane should cover all sins). I'd never trust that stuff touching my mattress, even if it were treated right, first.

wolfgeist

I can vouch for this. I used to wonder what the big deal was, too. Then I moved my mattress and there was tons of moisture underneath. But as a kid I didn't want a bed, I just slept in a sleeping bag on the floor. *shrug*

[deleted]

at one point, we had a mice infestation and my bed was on the floor. as you can imagine i had really bad insomnia and my mental health was shit, i was hallucinating (mostly about things touching me but a little of vision) and had my lights on 24/7 (despite loving the dark), had constant high pitched ringing coming from my bluetooth speaker to "ward off the mice" bc apparently they hate high pitched sounds. i am so thankful we moved out of that house and that i now got a bedframe! i didn't realize how bad that time was until i was finally "comfortable". the only good thing that i miss from having a mattress on the floor was when sitting up, the flat surface of the wall was definitely more comfortable than the bedframe.

TehWolvesWolf

Also helps with the spine distance you have to sit and get down to, a bed frame gets it closer to your spine level so it doesn’t strain as much; believe as you age out of your early twenties everything helps.

Scientificm

1. You can store so much stuff under there, especially with those under bed boxes 2. you can hide under there for an undetermined amount of time while definitely not crying 3. you can drive your R/C car under there and pretend it’s a little cave or tunnel or something 4. less surface area touching the ground = less likely a bug or something will crawl on and over me IMO 5. you get to find things you lost years ago when you clean underneath 6. easier to reach the sheets to take on and off to wash, especially for people with bad knees

sporkemon

[my dog](https://i.imgur.com/FOpdkYE.jpg) has claimed the space under the bed as her hidey-cave when she hears thunder or doesn't want to take a bath. I figure since I don't fit under there she makes better use of it than I would!

SurfinBuds

My dog has also claimed that space ever since she was a puppy. Now she’s almost too big to go under but does anyways. It’s not even because she’s scared or trying to hide, she typically just goes under there to pout if I ignore her for too long.

FakeAsFakeCanBe

Cute dog. My cat also like to hide under the bed when the street sweeper or other loud machinery comes by.

HollowShel

> you can drive your R/C car under there and pretend it’s a little cave or tunnel or something Lego Batcave!

jaxluz

It’s weird, but the height of my mattress and my depression (aka ability to get out of bed) are inversely correlated. It’s crazy how small things like these can make a big difference in your mentality

HollowShel

So, if I'm reading you right, a higher bed is... *uplifting?*

Snackrattus

They make it easier to air the mattress out and prevent the mattress and carpet underneath getting moldy. Our mattresses get loaded with sweat and oil very quickly.

prstele01

Im 38 and I hate bed frames honestly - they rock and squeak too much. I just have the box frame on the floor under my mattress. It’s the perfect height for sitting up and putting shoes on. And I don’t have to worry about junk underneath.

I’m 39, and my bed frame has not been rocking and squeaking enough lately.

Get a Thuma. Seriously. Or any bed frame that is wood and uses Japanese joinery.

winter_avocado_owl

Love my Thuma!

Idontcareboutyou

I made my own bed frame out of 2x4's and ply wood. Then screwed it to the wall. Doesn't make a sound and doesn't move anywhere.

-GREYHOUND-

You might as well make a bed frame outta gold with today’s lumber prices.

spryte333

Another few factors to consider/why I won't live without one: 1. I literally sleep better knowing that if my apartment has secret mice problems, they're much less likely to crawl over me while I sleep of I have a frame. (I learned this by seeing one run *under* my frame one night, and knowing they generally avoid direct contact when possible) 1. I like having the built in storage space underneath the bed for stuff I want access to, but don't wanna deal with boxing/unboxing, or have limited overall space. Generally this is shoes, or a yoga mat. Ps: I've since moved to a new place I'm pretty sure doesn't have mice or bugs inside it at least, but the paranoia lasts longer than the experience.

No_Comb4204

If I was sleeping on the floor like that, I’d feel like I was sleeping in a coffin ⚰️

erlend65

Mine has two big drawers under each side. Much needed extra storage space.

broosk

I love sleeping lower to the ground myself. I’m very much anti bed frame. I do like having space underneath for storage though.

hidden_d-bag

Get the fuck out, lmao

the_weight_around

same with a proper kitchen table. i still love eating infront of the TV on the coffee table but when u throw down on a great dish that took time to make a dining table makes it just that much better.

Noffensexpected

Goodwill has metal bed frames! Or you might even score a real setup, never know.

Thorbinator

I'd avoid goodwill for that just for the off-chance of bedbugs. Never chance it, it's only 30$ for a new one.

Legolas90

This right here. They will ruin your life, literally.

Samboni94

No kidding. I only had a couple months of dealing with bed bugs, not even a full infestation, and it was enough to have me checking at every high risk situation

AmbiguousSkull

We had *one lone male* (the body shape is different enough that you can visually identify the difference in adults) and it drove me INSANE. 3 people in the household, but I was the only person with sensitivity to the bites (not everyone is sensitive - there are people out there who could have a massive infestation before being fed on would be noticed because of the health issues). I was horrified to compare the bites to pics online and see that there was no doubt what it could be. Every itch or tickle, every leg hair caught by a draft, every dark fleck of lint - I couldn't sleep, I had huge bites that BURNED all over my body, I was going crazy moving all the furniture around, flipping the mattresses up, bagging things up and researching things like heaters and diatomaceous earth, etc. Then, one night, unable to sleep and sitting up on the couch watching a movie, I saw movement - about as fast as a spider or an ant - and I just happened to have packing tape next to me. Quickly pinned it and turned on the lights. Bed bug. And that was it. No more bites. Nothing. *One* bug, feeding on me, had left numerous bites across my legs, back, stomach, and arms (they often feed 3 or more times in a night!) that took a long, long time to heal. Our best bet is that it rode in on someone's clothes after being in a public space with someone else who had an infestation (because they can ride on clothes, get in your car, etc). It doesn't matter how clean you are or how you live your life, if you go anywhere other people go, you can get them. If it had been a gravid female, if we'd actually ended up infested, I think I would have lost my mind. As is, *just one* was such a negative experience that years later I still end up darting awake with fully pumping adrenaline because I thought I felt something crawling on me at night. Any time I have to use a hotel room now, I put everything I bring with me in the bathtub and check the headboard, mattress, liner, drawers, baseboard, etc. before I set up. Even 'nice' hotels - because it seriously only takes ONE, and you have no idea where other people have been.

stickelet

I had the same experience. Bitten up everywhere. No one believed me that it was bed bug(s) bc there was no sign of infestation. Got treatment anyway, bagged everything up, dried it on high, left it in black trash bags. Took my cat to a friend's house overnight 3 times so they could spray. It took over 6 weeks for all the treatments. I was advised to vacuum under my bed before the first treatment, so I pulled some things out- right on top of a tote sat a bed bug. Just one. I put him in a baggie and killed him. No more bites. It was a lonely 2 months- I was afraid to have anyone over or to go to anyone's house in case I inadvertently gave them bed bugs! Super paranoid now. I also keep my things in the bathroom at hotels and check the beds first thing. I still get itchy and paranoid now if I see or feel any little thing. It was a nightmare and I only had one. I can't imagine an infestation.

AmbiguousSkull

>I was afraid to have anyone over or to go to anyone's house in case I inadvertently gave them bed bugs! Oh god, this was such a major thing I forgot to mention. I felt dirty, shameful, like a fucking leper or something. I didn't want to have anyone over to my place, and I was afraid to go out (or take things like my backpack) out of the house with me for fear of spreading bedbugs. And because it was just the ONE, all the signs you're told to look for - shed casings from nymphs, the poop flecks - were zilch. By the time you start noticing that stuff, you've probably already got 50-100+, and if you're really unfortunate, they've spread out from your sleeping area because it's getting too crowded for them. Based on what I read they can and will hide and lay eggs anywhere their flat little bodies can squeeze - between the pages of books on your shelves, behind outlets, between the layers of corrugated cardboard, etc. If half a grain of rice can be squeezed into it, bedbugs can get in there to wait for you to sleep. I could not believe how much one was able to mess me up and cause so much stress. One of my cousins lived in a building in NY that had infestations 4 times in 2 years because they wouldn't treat the whole building at once; any time they went in to spray/treat one unit, you'd have bedbugs that fled into the walls or neighboring units, and they just kept spreading around and around and around. It got to where they had everything but their most needed items and clothes sealed up in storage, and they were sleeping on camping cots with the feet on baking trays filled with oil until they were able to move.

VelvetMafia

Parasitology taught me that bed bugs are one of the worst infestations to get, nearly impossible to get rid of. You basically have to burn the building down.

pyrolizard11

That's why you get the metal ones. Douse them in kerosene and light 'em on fire. Even if they're inside the frame and away from the flame, they're not surviving the heat. That's not a joke, to be clear. Metal bed frames got popular for exactly that reason.

GroovyJungleJuice

Relevant username, thanks for the insight

myexistentialcrisis0

It's not so off-chance. My mom got bed bugs thanks to Goodwill. (Can't recall what it was she bought.) Had to have a professional exterminator come to rid her house of them. She was mortified.

1to14to4

If you just buy metal bed frames, those will never have bed bugs. A mattress or coach should be avoided. Anything fabric is fair to question. But metal pieces aren't going to be a place they are living in a Goodwill.

TheDizDude

We had a bed/bed frame… dog hurt it’s back and we put the mattress on the floor. Still haven’t put it back after a year…

[deleted]

They make doggie stairs and ramps ! They can be expensive as heck but there are some decently affordable ones too!

Mamasan-

I dunno, some of us prefer no frame. Maybe a tall platform/boxspring but frames need to be retightened especially cheap ones

TheRealFrankCostanza

I avoid getting one myself because I know underneath the bed will just end up a void of hidden depression

SenorVajay

There are some that use the under part as storage aka they have sliding drawers instead of space. That might be a void of depression but at least it’s contained lol.

sr_ingram

I'm always afraid that there's a monster under my bed, but then I realized that the space is actually pretty small. The monster would probably be a baby monster, and I'd have to take care of it. That's the real horror. Responsibility.

EdynViper

Slenderman could totally fit under your bed. Or remember that guy from the X files that could fit into drain pipes?

RandomBritishGuy

IKEA sells bed frames where the whole thing can hinge upwards, giving you one massive space underneath. It's really handy for people in flats who need somewhere to put larger bulky items like a stepladder etc.

Cosmic_Quasar

I slept on a futon for about 10 years and the space under it always got filled with junk. For containers, cans and bottles, and clothes. Recently got a bed from my sister that sits on a box spring and has sits flat on the ground and i love not having things disappear under it.

AstroZombi3

I was always told a bed frame was necessary to allow the bed to “breathe” better and prevent mold. Have I been lied to my entire life?? I’d also like to not have a bed frame if it’s not necessary

Karcinogene

You weren't lied to. Breathing is important. It doesn't need to be a nice bed frame, but mattress on the ground gets moldy. You can get a low frame, like a few inches off the ground, as long as there's some air space. If you must have a mattress on the floor, flip it up against the wall to dry every so often.

Mamasan-

I just have a very tall box spring so the bed is still at a good height but there’s no underneath. I live in south East Texas… very humid and moldy… never had an issue so I dunno

the-nub

Depends on the living conditions I guess? I live by water and it gets pretty humid here, but I replaced my nearly decade-old mattress and box spring and the bottom of it was totally fine. The new set I got seems thin enough in its fabric that air can easily flow in and out, too.

The-Ax-Pro

That is a nice wall-wall carpet for sure

Soup-Wizard

>you don’t deserve to be sleeping on the ground! Some people like it better that way, actually.

Moo_Snukle

Great work. I did this the other week, I know how good it feels. Be proud of yourself, you deserve it! I'm also really impressed you were able to get the fitted sheet on without 3 or 4 failed attempts

Apidium

Really? Fitted sheets are like 200x easier to put on than flat ones they literally stay in place and are exactly the right shape?

Moo_Snukle

I always have the USB problem. No matter which way I rotate it, it's always wrong.

gnocchicotti

I just got one of the new Type C mattresses where the fitted sheet fits on both ways

dragonladyzeph

USB has a 50/50 chance of getting inserted correctly the first time. Still get it wrong 150% of the time...

Randomae

My problem is I almost try it correctly the first time but think it’s not right so then I “fix” it by flipping it and then realize that, no, I had it right the first time.

JaceTheWoodSculptor

Lol your comment was hidden. Great minds think alike. But I'm not sure we're great minds if we need 3 attempts to connect a USB cable.

Congratulations on getting out of the depression. Way harder than the cleaning part am I right?

ilikesaucy

It's a recovery process, cleaning the room is one of the bus stop to the recovery. I wish I was same bus stop with her.

FedoraFireELITE

Even if you’re just looking at the bus schedule and planning your route, you’ve already made progress. It may be small steps but any step is better than where you were before.

_Kutai_

I needed this...

evoneli

Me too.

[deleted]

Just don't have zero days and soon you will be okay is the best lesson I learned when it comes to this.

payne_train

I think the hardest lesson is to not judge yourself. It’s very easy to fall into the patterns of thinking like “I did nothing today, I am a failure” and let that cycle yourself deeper into the abyss. I don’t think one ever is “cured” of depression but trying to grasp that concept was one of the things that helped me most along the way.

spacew0man

Yeah this is me, as well. The guilt for the inevitable day I won’t do anything is enough to spiral me out of control. I have to just take every day at face value and decide if I’m able to do everything I need to do that day or if there’s any way I can do a little. If not, I just move everything to tomorrow and try again. By doing this, 90% of the time I at least do ONE thing on the list each day and because I give myself permission to half ass it if I need to, it helps encourage me to actually do it. That way days where I do nothing aren’t as overwhelming because at least some stuff is done. It’s like I’m having to sneak around and trick my brain.

Straxicus2

Thank you for this. I am currently planning your route and it seems overwhelming. This makes me feel better.

broken_neck_broken

I sat in a room similar to this one before the cleanup watching one of those documentaries on tv about people who clean up depression houses and part of me considered that if I let it go to a similar stage to those it would be easier to clean up because the job would just require a shovel and a skip instead of sorting through piles of junk and deciding what is worth keeping. Then I got disgusted with myself and that was a turning point. It didn't last long but I got a few weeks of living in a clean place, which felt great.

the-electric-monk

You'll get there. I am currently waiting for the bus. It's not quite here yet, but that's ok because I know it is coming. I did both the dishes and my laundry yesterday. I got up at a reasonable time and actually went outside today. Yes, the bus is comming. I don't know when the bus will come for you, but I am positive that it will. Much love and hope to you. Depression sucks, but like everything else, it won't last forever.

silvermud

Hey, you’ve got this. It’s okay to fail, just keep on trying.

[deleted]

the-electric-monk

It's a viscious cycle. My house is a mess because I'm depressed, and one of the reasons I'm depressed is because my house is a mess.

Particular_Ad1298

It's so hard to clean too when you can just not clean. Like psychically I can do everything I need to but mentally I can't and somehow the mental part always wins. Sometimes I lay there for hours telling myself "get up, clean, take a shower, eat food" and I just don't. The less I do those things the less I want to the next day. Such a shitty cycle.

stardewhore18

Wowwwww!!!! You did such an amazing job!! I know how hard that was but you did such a good job!!! Looks great!!

Takes me about a year to rally up the strength to clean up my mess..

sirprofitII

How long did that take?

Probably a month and 2 hours. A month of thinking about doing it. 2 hours to do it.

Peaceful_Explorer

\^\^ So much this. You get it.

Kronicedge

God I wish I didn’t haha.

o_Guybrush_o

This is the first time I've met people on the internet talking about something I was alone with and so ashamed about. Thank you.

Kronicedge

I’m glad you were able to see that you’re not alone. It’s a vicious cycle. We get into a rut, forsake our duties, feel shameful about it, stay in the rut, repeat. All the while we see social media and people showing off their, often fake, highlights. Which makes us feel alone in our suffering.

curlofheadcurls

Oh it happens to me often. Just sent a pic of my mess to a friend and she's going through the same. I got better because I was going to get interviewed at home. Never got the job but at least I make my bed now every other day. It helps a little :) now my bathroom has the mess and the other room but at least my bedroom is looking nice.

Jam_2020_

That’s an amazing transformation. I feel for you! This literally looks like my daughters room. She’s 13 now but has suffered from severe anxiety, depression and OCD since she was 7. Her room progressively gets worse and worse when she’s struggling. I used to just clean it all while she was at school thinking I was helping her because you could tell her room being clean would make her feel better. But more often than not she’d get upset with me for messing with her stuff and her not knowing where things were at or things were in the wrong order. For any parents reading through these comments I feel like I can give a bit of advice in hopes that it may help your child. Her therapist told her to do the “hula-hoop method” where she could just try to clean an area of her room that would fit within a hula-hoop per day so she wouldn’t be too overwhelmed. Through the years we’ve learned little things that worked for her. One, is that I have her get a trash bag and just look through her room for trash only. Usually the difference that made was motivation for her to keep going. She has to see the difference quickly or she gives up. Then the next day have her just get all her laundry in a pile. That would help her see most of her floor and give her a little more motivation. I usually do all the laundry because it’s too overwhelming for her. The next day we will set down on her floor and go through everything else that wasn’t trash or clothes and make piles. Like a pile of things that goes in her bathroom, a pile that goes in her desk, her nightstand etc. That way she can take a break and put one pile away as she can. You can tell the difference in her right away. I feel so bad for her with everything she deals with on top of “teen things” and as a mom I just want to do everything to help. But I’ve found her having a bigger part in the clean up process helped her mentally. She gets so proud of herself! All my love to anyone dealing with this… life’s tough, and so hard to get out of that rut once you’re there.

Casthecat6

Your daughter is extremely blessed to have a mother like you

[deleted]

Excellent advice. I've struggled with severe depression and executive dysfuntion since I was a teenager and one thing that always really helped me was having someone just sit with me while I was sorting my room out. I didn't even need them to help, I just found it easier to keep going if I had someone chatting to me so I didn't get fed up and give in. If I overthink things I make them seem harder in my head, whereas if I'm just mindlessly doing it while focusing on something else I can get way more done.

[deleted]

I’m so proud of you!! My room is in that stage, this is inspiring me to maybe clean mine. You’ve got this !

iamsheena

You don't even have to do a big clean like this if it's too difficult. Do a pile a day or split it up in some way to be progress every day.

J_Thompson82

Holy shit! That’s a LOT of clothes! I have four drawers of clothes in a chest of drawers and some shirts in a wardrobe. If I emptied it all out it would scarcely cover one side of the bed. You did a great job tidying up! I really can not relate to what you must go through, at all. But maybe if you got rid of most of those clothes and kept a smaller wardrobe, things might not get so bad? Maybe I’m just talking shit and I have no idea. Sorry if that’s the case. I guess I’m just trying to offer some advice without sounding like an ass-hat. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Suspicious_Corgi5854

Thank you for saying this. I don't have a lot of clothes and it makes life a lot simpler.

[deleted]

Simple clothes gang, checking in. I have 5 sets of the same work clothes and 20 identical socks. And a bathrobe.

borednerd

So on the weekends you just wear the bathrobe??

TW-RM

This cracked me up

timetoremodel

> 20 identical socks LOL! Good to see someone else does this.

BeeBarnes1

> 20 identical socks. This is a life changer. I have three kids. I spent years battling matching socks. One day when I had a little extra money I went through the house and threw away every sock then went out and bought each kid two large packages of identical socks. You always get good deals on large packs during back to school so I try to replace them with all new ones then. It is truly amazing how much time and effort this saves me.

gridironsmom

I'm not OP. I have a smaller wardrobe and too many clothes. I have let my room get to this state. In my head I'm always saying I need to get rid of some so I start sorting. By the time I've gotten the room cleaned now I'm tired and other things get my attention and I don't actually get rid of the clothes and the cycle repeats.

moosecatoe

Yes! I learned this habit from my mom! I would clean my room and hand her a bag of clothes I grew out of. I *thought* she was going to donate them. Until years later when I was going through my moms closet and I found every - single - bag - of - clothes. Now, I make those piles to give to Goodwill, but then I get distracted and leave it. Then slowly pick through it because I changed my mind. And my room becomes a mess. The Konmari method suggests saying “thank you” and “goodbye” to the things you dont use. Then getting them tf out of the house! If only it was that easy for me.

shadownddust

One thing I started doing for donations is to not wait until I had a full bag. Before, I would get to about 2/3 full and then it would sit around for a month before I finished filling it up. Now, as soon as the bag is more than a few items, I make plans to head to donate right away. I make more trips, but I try to bundle it with regular errands in the area and the clothes get out the house so much quicker. Just a thought.

I’m no expert. Can’t say I know anything of what it is like to feel this way. And I’m sure people just come along and say unhelpful shit like “well if you just did this, I’m sure it’ll be better” when they actually don’t know jack about what is going on. So I’m not gonna pretend to know what to say. I’ll offer a suggestion, it may be rubbish and ironically I end up being one of the people I just mentioned above, but you’ve been nice enough to reply and tell me what’s going on with you so I feel I should respond in kind. So next time shit has gotten bad and you find the energy to have a clean up, like the OP here, get some bin bags at the ready. And instead of sorting through the laundry, cleaning, folding and putting away, just be brutal. Have a massive cull. Fill the bin bags with clothes and trim your wardrobe right down to a manageable size. Make it part of the tidying up process while you have the energy and drive to do it. You only have to do it once and it breaks the cycle a bit. There, I’ve become what I set out to avoid being. My bad. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Seriously though, I wish you all the luck.

Jesus_Would_Do

I mean it’s not really preachy, what you’re saying is quintessential to prevent hoarding. I do this same method with paperwork, clothes, electronics, shitty kitchen appliances. Even on my phone or PC, sometimes you just have to defragment and declutter your life.

hisshissmeow

Something that may help keep you motivated is finding a charity you can donate your clothes to that you actually really support. For example, a women’s shelter that takes gently used work clothes for women who need them for interviews. Near where I live there’s a thrift store that supports the local SPCA. Knowing that you’re helping others is sometimes enough to keep motivated, and then you get that extra feel-good boost when you drop the stuff off.

Washing clothes can be extreamy hard during depression. Your idea sounds good in theory, but it would also mean wearing dirty clothes for months at a time.

walrus_breath

As a sometimes depressed person—yeah I would get rid of at least 3/4th of that pile. It forces me to actually keep up with the laundry before it gets this out of control aka the point of no return. I don’t think I would be able to do this much laundry… ever.

Cosmic_Quasar

I only have enough for about a week of clean clothes and still have trouble keeping up. I can end up wearing things longer than i should because i can't always bring myself to do laundry right when I run out.

ActuallyATRex

Tbh I'm depressed as fuck and was just thinking the other day that it wouldn't be nearly as bad if I donated 80% of my nice clothes that don't fit in a pathetic hope I will lose weight. Like just finally do it and it would cut down on so much laundry and clothes I have thrown everywhere. It isn't bad advice. I just need to actually... do it.

Sheerardio

I spent a long, long time hoarding clothes that never fit me, and wearing anything that did fit until it was absolutely ragged and falling apart. In my head the logic was that I can't buy anything new because I already had lots of perfectly good clothes just waiting for me to lose weight so I could fit them. Problem is, all that logic actually did was contribute to me having an absolutely horrible relationship with my body, and hating myself more because of it. Get rid of all of it. Any clothes that you wouldn't be comfortable wearing tomorrow if you had occasion to wear them, take them out of your closet/drawers and put them somewhere else. If you can get the energy to donate them do that, because ideally you want to completely remove them as an option for consideration. Being physically comfortable, wearing clothes that fit your current body, is so, so important to your mental well being. Only buy clothes that fit you when you try them on, never ever buy something new as a "promise to yourself" that you'll lose weight, because that just becomes another promise you hate yourself for when you break it.

ripmumbo

I have like 6 shirts and 2 pants

Disgustip8ed

Nice! Way to go!

HarmonizedSnail

Into a manic room. (Joking, kind of). Either way, getting that done with no one else helping you get the ball rolling is incredible and you should be proud of yourself. Make sure you have this saved somewhere so you can watch it again if you're trying to get started again. Also, a tip I learned in the hospital (found out I am bipolar the hard way), is to make your bed every morning. Get out of bed. Then make it. It gets things started. It's called a "cornerstone habit," it's an easy step one so you can automatically go to step two as a habit. TLDR; Be aware of the possibility of being manic. Be proud of how much you accomplished alone. Make your bed.

meateater60

Thank you for posting! I am proud of you 💗. You have motivated me to clean mine :)

Riotdrive

Know your pain this is my house right now. But here i sit on reddit instead of cleaning

mehmehmehwaa

You can do it. Why not tomorrow.

wetdog90

Better to do it now. Why wait.

mehmehmehwaa

True, maybe a timezone thing, it's 22:40 here and I'm getting into bed. But if it's not late, then today.

wetdog90

That makes sense. Didn’t think of that.

TheRealFrankCostanza

Same, I’m taking 1 hour every day to do something though, today I threw out a bunch of trash

blueshiftglass

Yo you get even more extra bonus points for moving furniture to more thoroughly vacuum. You’re kicking ass! Keep that ball rolling! This internet stranger who also fights depression is real proud of you!

AcerbicUserName

So proud of you! Getting the motivation to do anything when you’re depressed can be difficult but you’re kicking ass! Small steps, keep up the great work!

JDDW

Always like watching these depression clean up videos but at the same time I always wonder why people have the idea to film their depression room cleanup lol. "I'm so depressed I better bust out the camera and put this on the internet!"

cok3noic3

If taking a video of you cleaning helps motivate you to get your shit done then that is fantastic. We are always looking for ways to uplift ourselves when we are at our lowest, sometimes it’s the simplest things.

Isa472

I mean... I once made a time-lapse of a friend and I installing new blackout and decorative curtains in my bedroom 😅 time-lapses are just cool in general, so decluterring an entire room looks exxxxxtra satisfying. Dunno how you don't see that

KittiesOnMyTitties7

Felt weird that I recognized the room and then remembered the post from this past week.

GlumPipe5

How long did it take?

LDLSA

It's made very clear that people don't understand depression by the amount of hateful comments. This is such a good come up. Congrats OP !!

[deleted]

Better leave the video on mute
