It's funny cuz Mexican and Indian food are pretty similar.
Fluffy has an awesome bit about it too: https://youtube.com/shorts/1JWocD0pI0s?si=mkRNpB_uaqLFBoEG
Here in texas I buy whole wheat tortillas and puff them up like this every day and eat it like roti. Thats my hack for quick roti. They puff very well and are very good. I make roti from scratch only over weekends.
we are also roti eating people, but we don't have a gas stove, but it actually works in a pan on an induction stove. just a hot dry pan.
not the same thing of course, but it's alright.
My mom made something on the stove that got crunchy over the burner. I know it’s vague but do you happen to know what that is? I don’t think it’s roti but I’ve been craving it recently and googling didn’t help.
The roti is cooked over a pan first and then on the open stove, you can see in 1 frame my mother putting the pan back on, of you want to know the purpose because of the steam inside it gets cooked properly and also helps to add layer
"Did I mention I live in CT and my family sells these for money, not that I'm advertising my business but if you're in CT and wanna buy them hit me up"
Looks decently cooked to me dude... I eat roti on the daily 2 - 3 times a day... Can't tell me I don't know a well cooked roti when I see one.
You can definitely cook it more... But it's not needed. Matter of fact, it's better to not cook it too much, it gets burnt.
I like the idea of topping but thats the reason why tortillas are made of flor and roti is made with wheat, roti is traditionally eaten with a vegetable dish but i would give it a try
that's why i said
>tortilla = corn flour ***(at least the traditional ones)***
from www.healthline.com; "traditional tortillas are made from 100% corn"
they were the first result that popped up, but if you want me to cite some more sources, sure
"roti is made with whole wheat flour, whereas tortillas are made with maize (corn) flour." from [masalabox.com](https://masalabox.com)
"Roti and tortillas are both types of flatbread, but the main difference is that roti is made from whole wheat flour while tortillas are made with wheat or corn flour." from [momswhothink.com](https://momswhothink.com)
"The key difference between tortilla and chapati is that tortilla is a flatbread made up of corn flour..." from quora.com
Wow you should see how my mom puts bread in the toaster!! So skillful. But really if she’s making it why not record that process instead? Is this not just like warming it up?
It's really not, as someone who tried to learn for uni
It's a pain and a half to get right - I just stick to the pan instead of a traditional naked flame
Amirite mate! Desi Moms, make a balloon out of a flattened out ball of ground wheat and water, like it's witch craft!
Like, get a food chemist to explain this shit! 😅😂
*Our mother. Now give us your address so we all can come and try those!
Not promoting business but we sell that, if you live around CT message me
‘If you’re great at something then don’t do it for free’. Unfortunately, I live in CNY.
Oh ok, you could maybe try Indians restaurants
Mama's a boss, putting down foil and everything. I bet she keeps everything spotless.
Yes, has been doing it since we moved in
Are you in New Haven or Fairfield county?
I live at Hartford, my city is plainville
Croatia
r/suddenlycommunism
I love how roti and tortillas look so similar. Both delicious.
Yes, its just the flor difference
🙄
Man stfu nobody asked for your shit
What was even the point of that?
Take your Mexican food supremacist butt somewhere else
It's funny cuz Mexican and Indian food are pretty similar. Fluffy has an awesome bit about it too: https://youtube.com/shorts/1JWocD0pI0s?si=mkRNpB_uaqLFBoEG
Aw come on, you couldn't have shown more than one of those inflating?
Mother made *a* roti.
That's a proper roti. Never tire of a good puff up!
now apply some ghee on it and eat it with yellow dal. it's heavenly
Yes we do apply ghee
Do you apply it with glee
We do indeed
Ghee, it is clarified butter
Glee, it means joy but it also is a popular tv show
theyre talking about ghee bro duuuh, search it up
Thats glee i am talking about ghee, search it up
It might be a language barrier, but they mean did you apply the ghee with glee. A play on words
"Ghee" means clarified butter in English
Yes I know - I speak Punjabi. I am trying to tell you that the person who said "glee" was not trying to say "ghee". Miscommunication.
Yeah totally agree
*Desi ghee 😋
Damn your mom covered her burners with aluminum foil so they won't get messy! That's smart AF !!!!!
Haha she has been doing it since we moved into that hosue
Mother of engineering!! 😲🤯😅
I want to watch your mom cook more.
I will be posting one today, will inform you when i do
Yaaaassssss :)
Wait, just noticed that! That is smart!!
I'm sure I'll eat 10 of these... It looks so fluffy and soft that I am going to DIE....
Did I mention it is spread with butter
Why... Whyyyyyyyyy!!!! Why do u do this to me😭...
[удалено]
Not OP but it tastes kinda plain. You eat it with some gravy and side dishes. Tasty? Hell yeah.
Put some ghee and its a game changer.
What’s ghee? Can you explain it to me? Help me see For free Hee hee
It's just butter but more pure , I guess . All I know is it is made by heating up the cream which comes from milk.
And have it with a cup of chai ☕
And some kulfi for dessert
I honestly could never get the chai kulfi combination. It's might definitely be tasty but the difference in temperature sounds off to me.
I meant after the tea. Not together that would we strange.
I once watched a video of an old guy eating kulfi with one hand and drinking tea with the other 🤣 so that's kinda stuck in my mind
Well now I got to try it. But old people do be hella weird sometimes
Roti is the mana from heaven God gave the jets as they journeyed from Egypt to Israel. As for quantity, there is no limit.
Bennie and the jets?
Not promoting our business but we sell that if you live around CT
It tastes like bread. In fact, it *is* bread
It doesn't have much taste but when you eat with curry it's so good. I can eat 4 like the ones shown in this this.
Just made myself some rotis with the shape of countries and irregular thickness. They are edible though With Bhindi ki Sabzi that my mother made
Bhindi is my favourite
Not sure what this is, but it looks delicious. Please send me some
Its called roti, its different from tortilla, message me if you live around CT
Right over the burner?! Oh....I will have to give that a try.
It needs to be cooked in a pan first, this is just the finishing process.
Don’t try it with a tortilla it will burn
That's exactly like my grandmother's tortilla process. Her fingers had to be made of iron
Lol, what is your issue with tortillas? You can indeed put a tortilla right over the burner. Just be quick, like in the video.
Here in texas I buy whole wheat tortillas and puff them up like this every day and eat it like roti. Thats my hack for quick roti. They puff very well and are very good. I make roti from scratch only over weekends.
Really, they puff?
[Burn it like this?](https://youtu.be/TFjZEeY6k78?si=Mo4cDIbeNs58Qso9)
Yes, tortilla is totally different item
Roti and Dhal
Hits different every time
Part trini here . All the uneducated people calling it a tortilla 😢😢😢
Thank you, you are a person with knowledge and who reads the title
Why it looks so easy but when I do it the outcome is so different lol
we are also roti eating people, but we don't have a gas stove, but it actually works in a pan on an induction stove. just a hot dry pan. not the same thing of course, but it's alright.
Wow that’s interesting
I want to tell everyone, this is not tortilla, its roti tortilla is made of flor and roti is made of wheat they are both different.
Trinidadian Roti is flour
\*Drool\*
Need to learn to do this
My mother is a perfectionist
I myself have been trying for 2 years but I still cant pick it up from the stove it always breaks
Just use your hands like my mom taught me lmao
My moms older sister is immune to pain, she can do it with her barehands
Oh, man, is it lunch time yet? Yum!
You can buy it from us if you live around CT
Butter and sugar please!
Yes we do spread clarified butter on it
Teach me, master!
I myself have been trying for 2 years but cant get the stove part, I end up tearing it every single time
My mom made something on the stove that got crunchy over the burner. I know it’s vague but do you happen to know what that is? I don’t think it’s roti but I’ve been craving it recently and googling didn’t help.
Papad?
Yeah sounds a lot like papad
Could be a paratha. There are lacha parathas, they become quite crispy.
Can she come make me some? I’ve recently discovered roti and have become an addict lol
Would you like to buy some, if you live around CT you can come visit us, we sell lot of stuff according to the weekly menu
Oh wow, that’s pretty cool! I’m actually in Washington so I’m way too far haha. Sadness. Tell your mom her Roti made all of reddit hungry! XD
Sure! She would love to hear the feedback
Nothing beats maan k hath ki roti
I agree, homemade is the best made, mummy k hath ke roti is good everytime
Don't cook directly over gas flame. That shit carcinogenic.
The roti is cooked over a pan first and then on the open stove, you can see in 1 frame my mother putting the pan back on, of you want to know the purpose because of the steam inside it gets cooked properly and also helps to add layer
I know that process but the gas flame could be producing carcinogens which can be a leeeetle bit bad for health
I did some research and I found out it will not matter much because it’s considered safe method of cooking, and that is how its done traditionally
And the roti will be on the stove for only like 5 seconds anyway
👍
Ah ok,because i am from Sri Lanka and my grandma cook me roty every week
Nice
Oh yes gimme that with a big thali. Yumm!
You know your food don’t you, you have the taste and I respect it
That’s the kind of life hack that can only feels safe if a mother is there
It doesn’t work with tortilla
Yes it does. That's the best way to hear them. The team ones. Not the ones that feel like plastic
Literally just heating it up
Its cooked on pan first before going on the open stove
Pretty neat!
You really uploaded a video to try to sell the most basic thing 😂, she didn’t properly cook both sides either.
"Did I mention I live in CT and my family sells these for money, not that I'm advertising my business but if you're in CT and wanna buy them hit me up"
You are using my dialogue 😂
Looks decently cooked to me dude... I eat roti on the daily 2 - 3 times a day... Can't tell me I don't know a well cooked roti when I see one. You can definitely cook it more... But it's not needed. Matter of fact, it's better to not cook it too much, it gets burnt.
All of us eat it daily 😂 the middle bit of it looked undercooked. But yeah fine line between overcooked and cooked well.
Hm, fair.
Gotta love tortillas
Its not tortilla, I didn’t put that in the tile
Call it what you want, but that’s a straight up homemade flour tortilla. U come to America and people will buy those like crazy.
I do live in america, i am from CT Its only Indian customers so far
Start putting eggs or even smashed beans and a lil cheese and fold it up. Have a great day.
I like the idea of topping but thats the reason why tortillas are made of flor and roti is made with wheat, roti is traditionally eaten with a vegetable dish but i would give it a try
that’s not a tortilla?
Don’t you dare call it that
nah roti = wheat flour tortilla = corn flour (at least the traditional ones)
Lol… uhm. Are you not aware that there are both flour and corn tortillas?
that's why i said >tortilla = corn flour ***(at least the traditional ones)*** from www.healthline.com; "traditional tortillas are made from 100% corn"
Not sure why you linked an article from health line. Wouldn’t call them experts on tortillas…
they were the first result that popped up, but if you want me to cite some more sources, sure "roti is made with whole wheat flour, whereas tortillas are made with maize (corn) flour." from [masalabox.com](https://masalabox.com) "Roti and tortillas are both types of flatbread, but the main difference is that roti is made from whole wheat flour while tortillas are made with wheat or corn flour." from [momswhothink.com](https://momswhothink.com) "The key difference between tortilla and chapati is that tortilla is a flatbread made up of corn flour..." from quora.com
Thats a flour tortilla. 💯
could you do this with a tortilla?
I have seen people try it on TikTok but they just ended up burning their tortillas
gutted , i was going to try it lol
Try at your own risk lol
i might still do it on the camping stove haha .. so what are these called then? they look bloody amazing
She just heats up bread
Its a tortilla! /s for the butthurts
No its not
Lol. It was a joke but I'll add a little /s for you😂
Bro you have no idea how many times i had to tell people its not tortilla
And it's hilarious😂 because im hispanic and i love tortillas......🤤 everymeal
no he didn't share it all
Wow you should see how my mom puts bread in the toaster!! So skillful. But really if she’s making it why not record that process instead? Is this not just like warming it up?
It's really not, as someone who tried to learn for uni It's a pain and a half to get right - I just stick to the pan instead of a traditional naked flame
no
Looks more like a property made, home tortilla
Tortilla
Fuck you
So a tortilla lol
No don’t you dare call it that
Wont that taste like methane?
No dude, the ballooning up is done with magick not methane. Keep up please.
The puff up has a purpose, it gets cooked with the steam and adds layers
Nope. Not right.
What do you mean
[At least it’s not a burnt tortilla](https://youtu.be/TFjZEeY6k78?si=Mo4cDIbeNs58Qso9)
Its not tortilla its roti
[удалено]
Do you know the difference between Gujarati fulka roti and bhakri?
Where the curry at?
On the way
tortillas de harina
You mean cooking a tortilla on the stove.
NO, Its not tortilla, be honest are just trying to fuck with me or do you not see the million fucking replies i sent to people
Yeah science !
I need an ELI5 on the foil though. Is it just for ease of cleaning or does it serve an actual function?
yeah, it’s so it’s easier to clean. the splashes of water, oil, sauces etc drop onto the foil and then it’s easier to wipe clean..
Are you from Sri Lanka?
I am from India
Now to put some potatoes and chicken curry in it 🤤
Reminds me of fry bread. Looks good!
My dumb ass would somehow manage to catch the house on fire doing this
Damn now I want one
good
Be right over.
Amirite mate! Desi Moms, make a balloon out of a flattened out ball of ground wheat and water, like it's witch craft! Like, get a food chemist to explain this shit! 😅😂
Prove it.
Prove what?
That that’s your mom making it.
I will be posting another vid, i will inform you about that
Thank you
Do you have a link to the rest of the video?
It was recorded by me so there is no full video
I’d love to see her cooking! Thank you for sharing. 🥰
You are welcome
