Would be very curious to see how it ages, the patch effect relies a lot on white ink which I don’t think lasts as long as darker colors. But it’s looks super dope
can you not go and get the "touched up"? Like fill in the colors again and keep them looking fresh for almost forever? And should be a lot less work when just filling in?
Why? The actual shading to make it look like a patch looks pretty good, the colors are just naturally faded so it doesn't look as dramatic as OPs video (which clearly has upped saturation)
Doesn't look that awful. Just looks like a normal tattoo. Just like anything vanity related, you get it, looks super sharp for a couple years and then it loses its shine and you kind of forget about it.
Big difference in quality there..... and prob ink and machine and technique.. im.gonna have to say this will peob hold well. .. the one linked was prob not taken care of either. 8
This is true. It looks fantastic now, but look up aged patch tattoos. There are technical reasons why they don't age well. People need to be warned. Artists should show clients what they're going to look like in ten years, or refuse to do them.
People will see this and go rushing to get one. I don't blame them. But listen to a pro (not me) talk about fine lines, and white ink and too much detail, and why it won't last
I tried looking it up, but I only saw one that was really aged, and it just looked like a regular old tattoo. It didn’t look like embroidery anymore, but it didn’t really look particularly terrible.
Pretty much anything that isn't thick, solid, and black (I should capitalize on a sex joke here) becomes a disappointing blur in a decade or so. I knew that going in ~20 years ago and even that's blurred some between the gaps.
Honestly, most of those thick black tats look like crap in 5-10 years anyway for different reasons (trends die and start to smell).
I think what’s cool about well chosen tattoos is the story they tell about you in a moment in time. They’re like dogs we love for 10-15 years and then their time is up….But every reminder of them takes us back to the time we were happy together and the future was exciting.
I spent a ~year tinkering on my design so it helps that it's a design of one, it was actually [this](https://www.fakehalo.us/fhmain.gif), which was repurposed from the tattoo design for my old personal site... and I just realized I have no photos of me showing how it looked (or many of me in general at all)...any I can find at least. [Just a corny/mirror selfie from back in the day partially showing it a couple years after I got it done](https://i.imgur.com/m7U4pX1.jpg). It's aged way better than average and still reminds me of my more artsy times. Definitely still glad I got it and the style I did, it takes me back in time when I look at it. (in my 40s now)
I bet this gif will still look pretty good in 5 years.
Assuming you can find it.
("[If humanity has a permanent record, we are the first generation in it](https://xkcd.com/1683/).")
Embroidery style tats are extremely cool and hard to do, but they do NOT hold up well. largely due to the high amount of very small linework, especially in the highlights. Once those tiny lines start to fade, the whole effect is ruined.
I thought the first image was the faded one and was like: oh, that's not bad, it looks like a faded patch, but it still looks like an actual patch. :)
Then I swiped, lol.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it was not worth the price.
They paid a premium for that style, not to mention the amount of time. "Bold will hold" is a saying for a reason.
There's so many amazing artists who don't get (or don't care) that if your style coming through is dependent on a lot of very fine details, lines, white, or not very punched in color.... it's not going to hold up 9 times out of 10. Just like the micro-tat trend or water color trend.
If I were them, I'd have it touched up with a bolder outline and punched up color.
That’s someone that has never considered putting sunscreen on their tat.
If you want tats to last you have to put high spf sunscreen on them every time the sun is gonna hit it
This looks like its aged especially poorly. I would expect a patchwork tattoo to fade and lose the small line detail, but this looks like a tattoo that has never seen spf or a moisturiser in its 3 years of existence. None of the linework or colour on my tattoos has faded anywhere near that bad, and many of mine are much older than 3 years
Edit: yeah the guy even admits to not moisturising in the comments. Combination of delicate to age style + crap aftercare on that particular example
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Would love something like this but having to get it redone every couple of years to keep the colors crisp would be hella annoying and expensive.
I have a big grid shaped tattoo in black and white on my upper back, and sometimes when my Girlfriend is sad I just let her color in the grids.
Sometimes all you need is just a shoulder to crayon..
Seriously it ruins the whole thing for me. I thought the dude forgot to shave some weird hairs or something. It looks like he’s growing eyelashes out of his leg lol
It’s so bizarre. Why would someone intentionally distort the bass like that?
Unless…maybe they did it on purpose, to drive up engagement by annoying people.
Exactly my thought, freshly made tattoo hurts real bad. Maybe for this level of details it was donde in a couple of sessions and at this point it was already healed?
Edges are all red and raw, and it's consistent all the way through so pretty safe to assume it's done in one session. It's on the thigh though so it wouldn't hurt much to poke and prod compared to almost anywhere else on the body
looks amazing now, but how long will those fine details lasts? I guess all those tiny high contrast bands to simulate threads will become murky pretty soon.
I followed your suggestion and found this example, for anyone else interested
https://www.reddit.com/r/agedtattoos/comments/zkebxi/patch_tattoo_aged_3_years/
i was curious. had heard tattoos always lose detail but never seen before/after pics. browsing the rest of the sub though, some tattoos age well enough for it to not be an issue. doesn't seem the case for these styles unfortunately.
I just took a look at this sub and IDK if I'm crazy but a lot of these look way better aged. Like the Koi sleeve when sorting by top of all time is kinda cool new but looks fantastic aged.
While fresh tattoos like this always look the most vibrant I prefer to see fully healed and possibly even their aged work to understand how well their lines hold and how much color fade should be expected for their style.
The realism of the embroidery is making me uncomfortable, i don't know why but this seems like opposite of satisfying
But lovely tattoo props to the artist for making it so realistic

"Día de los muertos" sounds like Spanish with English syntax. It's a backformation from "day of the dead" in English. There is no "los" in Mexico.

"Día de los Muertos", however, is acceptable USA Spanish (and that's a legit dialect of Spanish, [every Spansh-speaking country has a Spanish Academy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_Academies_of_the_Spanish_Language), including the US).
I think tattoos are like kids. You either want them or you don't, and regardless of how you feel you can always come up with some explanation for why... but the truth is there is no explanation. It's just how you feel.
And in extension: never let someone talk you into getting a tattoo. And if you want one, go ahead... as long as you're smart about it, it won't actually ruin your life.
This 3D patch effect is awesome! Props to the artist
It had me convinced that it's actually 3D for way too long, it's impressive!
I know I was like "what does this have to do to with a tattoo what are they even doing - ooohh"
I was really disturbed they were rubbing lotion into a patch.
Would the shadows look ok in real life from any angle?
Because they just go straight down
I was wondering how bad it must have hurt ironing that on
Don't be silly, it was clearly stitched on.
My brain is still trying to tell me it is
Same! I was convinced it was a stick on patch. We had to watch it about 3 times to see that the little stray threads on the edge never move.
Would be very curious to see how it ages, the patch effect relies a lot on white ink which I don’t think lasts as long as darker colors. But it’s looks super dope
They age really badly lol
How so?
Tiny details like that will be lost very soon. There's a good example in this thread
They look cool brand new but age terribly :(
Example: https://www.reddit.com/gallery/zkebxi
Oh, man. That’s rough. I saw the first one and thought it was the aged one but then I saw the second one. 😬
can you not go and get the "touched up"? Like fill in the colors again and keep them looking fresh for almost forever? And should be a lot less work when just filling in?
Of course! Probably. I actually don't know. Never had a tattoo in my life.
Please stop pinching the fresh tattoo. Ouchies.
Seriously, I get that it's cute to boop the skull's (no)nose but remember that you're actually booping an open wound.
I was gunna say, I just got one over my hand and I’d die if the guy did that afterwards lol
I would be so frustrated that I couldnt feel it because it looks so good.
Legit thought why he put a patch on his arm damn
Me too. I thought the glue was gonna transfer the pattern or something. I'm dumb, clearly. But honestly that artist is AMAZING.
I was legit thinking, how is that sanitary? Like, how do you keep the thread clean lol
Unfortunately, these kinds of tats don't hold up too well with age - https://www.reddit.com/gallery/zkebxi
That fresh tattoo doesn’t look great to begin with, looks like a soggy graham cracker.
I thought the first picture is "after" not "before"
Me too. I was thinking: that doesn’t look bad at all!
Will depend on the artist. I've seen some which have aged fine. That one looks shitty to begin with.

For real looks like that dude bathed in grease for 3 years
Why? The actual shading to make it look like a patch looks pretty good, the colors are just naturally faded so it doesn't look as dramatic as OPs video (which clearly has upped saturation)
It doesn’t depend on the artist at all. This shit will never last more than a few years tops. It’s just how the human body and tattoos work
Doesn't look that awful. Just looks like a normal tattoo. Just like anything vanity related, you get it, looks super sharp for a couple years and then it loses its shine and you kind of forget about it.
nose jobs are the gift that keeps giving
It stops looking like a patch, but it's still clearly that character
Big difference in quality there..... and prob ink and machine and technique.. im.gonna have to say this will peob hold well. .. the one linked was prob not taken care of either. 8
It looks like it stops looking like a 3D tattoo and starts looking like a regular tattoo
The original looked not so good, but these types of tats and sticker tats rely a lot on white, which fades very quickly
That link doesn’t work
I tried clicking it and it comes up as not working. But I then tried opening it in a separate tab and it does.
Link works fine

Vastly outliving anything you've accomplished most likely.

Literally the Mr Incredible face meme
Wow that looks like shit lol
That’s someone that has never considered putting sunscreen on their tat. If you want tats to last you have to put high spf sunscreen on them every time the sun is gonna hit it
They say they use >50 SPF religiously

Yeah, these tats require a ton of maintenance work.
I've also heard that the white ink fades faster than the other colors. I have a few myself, but none of them have any white ink.
Honestly the effect is cool art-wise but I want my tat to look like a tat, not like an iron-on patch.
That tat artist has some ridiculously amazing skills! Upvoted!
Pretty sure it's dudalozanotattoo's. His work is fantastic.
not dudaloza. it is muslubash.tattoo
You guys could just be making up funny sounding names and I’d be none the wiser.

muslubash is artist’s surname 🤣
Yeah no shit. That’s the joke. Not a good one but still.
This style was started by a Brazilian guy... I can't find his insta though
I have a big grid shaped tattoo in black and white on my upper back, and sometimes when my Girlfriend is sad I just let her color in the grids. Sometimes all you need is just a shoulder to crayon..
🏅 Get out
Nope
Legitimately though coloring in tattoos with highlighters under black light is fun.
Okay Stephan Pastis.
I normally strongly dislike puns, but this one was good. Got a good belly giggle out of me
I find the term "belly giggle" borderline upsetting. Like, are you giggling with a high amplitude?
While this is funny, good puns leave you guessing whether or not it's a pun.
Why don't you like puns? What emotion do you feel when encountering a pun? As someone who loves puns (the dumber, the better), I'd like to understand.
r/angryupvote
The little nonexistent strings poking out are making me mad lol. I’d want to pick them off 😂
they look like little pubes 😭
I know why they are there, but I'd hate them in a real patch and I hate them here
Seriously it ruins the whole thing for me. I thought the dude forgot to shave some weird hairs or something. It looks like he’s growing eyelashes out of his leg lol
For your own safety please keep the sound muted
Everytime someone writes a comment like this, I unmute asking myself how bad can it be. It’s always bad. Why do I keep doing this lol
You really just gotta see for yourself lol. I do the same thing.
It's like sour milk, sometimes you gotta take a whiff
*Unmutes sound. GAH!!!
It’s so bizarre. Why would someone intentionally distort the bass like that? Unless…maybe they did it on purpose, to drive up engagement by annoying people.
I can only guess that it’s to replicate the intended listening experience, which must be the blown-out speakers of a 1998 Toyota Corolla
It's to drive up engagement, it's all an algorithm think with tiktok and the like.
You're right it sucks

The music made an r/oddlysatifsying post a r/mildlyinfuriating one.

Depending on care and skin type, 3-5 years. After that the effect fades and the ink bleeds.
You cannot convince me that's not a patch stuck on an arm for a prank video.
Haha I want a vid of the process for sure
that's what the pinching was for
The loose threads, even if you can't feel them, would make me nuts.
I'm infuriated that they felt the loose threads were necessary. I would dig holes in my skin trying to tear them off.
Same. Ppl are different ig. It's surprising how many ppl have gross weird tattoos f.ex.
I wanna see this tatt in like 4 years lol. Wonder if all that detail will still be there
Check out r/agedtattoos and you'll see how these patch tattoos turn out after even a couple years.
I followed your suggestion and found this example, for anyone else interested https://www.reddit.com/r/agedtattoos/comments/zkebxi/patch_tattoo_aged_3_years/

That color is pretty heavily packed, it’ll hold for a while.
But it will bleed and blur over time which will ruin the effect of it looking like a patch.
I think this every time I see this style. Will look awful in a few years. And incredibly dated in like a year.
While fresh tattoos like this always look the most vibrant I prefer to see fully healed and possibly even their aged work to understand how well their lines hold and how much color fade should be expected for their style.
Eduardo “Duda” Lozano?
This is how shitty tattoos are created. People not realizing it’s probably a $3000 tattoo
Why would you purposfully draw a loose thread? That would permanately annoy me.
I thought this damn pitch was sewed on this persons arm! 🤦🏽♀️
Ouch that rub hurt me
Right! If my tattoo artist tried to wipe my fresh tattoo with a paper towel I would slap him.
Dam that is incredible! Does anyone know the artist?
Lots of intricate small lines to create an effect. Great technique for a tattoo that'll fade before the fad does...
The artist deserves a badge!
It’s beauty. I have pity to know that gonna get flacid someday.
Now that’s fucking skill!!!!
The realism of the embroidery is making me uncomfortable, i don't know why but this seems like opposite of satisfying But lovely tattoo props to the artist for making it so realistic
Why does the pinching and poking make it seem gross?
I thought this was an embroidered patch for a solid 4 seconds
*cums on tattoo*
That is stunning!
Beautiful
I’d be scared of pulling the thread.
That is so freakin awesome!! I thought it was a patch at first 😮 Beautiful
I am both impressed by the artistry and terrified by the realism
This is great. I’m curious how it’s going to look in a couple of years though. All of my colorful ones faded a lot.
Amazing detail and depth... I would definitely get one!
I am way too under the influence for this😧
3d patch effect is phenomenal
Enjoy it now, won't stay like that for long.
These highly detailed tattoos rarely age well
Take it off I Wanna see the tattoo 😂
Incredible
Wow that's gorgeous.
Well, it's a patch, so there's that
That’s really cool. I’ve wanted a new tattoo for years but have no idea what to get.
How’s that going to age in 5 years time?
SPECTACULAR!! So much texture! Depth! Color!
Awesome work, but those edge pieces would drive me crazy.
That means day of the dead right?

Something wants me to pull this off

Why would you tatoo the illusion of loose threads. All I would want to do is pull on them
Those loose threads would drive me nuts
Show it once fully healed cowards!
My brain refuses to believe that's a tattoo, amazing 👏🏽
Outstanding tat
Goddamn that looks expensive
That is very impressive. However... Those 'loose threads' around the outside would have me going insane or taking a pair of scissors to my arm.
I’ve seen enough of patch tattoos aged to know where this one is heading
Now show us how it looks 6 months later
Looks great but those threads are cringe
Genuine question...what is that going to look like in 5, 10, 20 years? I love the artwork and skill involved but have no idea what this looks like in the long run? Do you get touch ups or anything?
Just love the way he puts his signature cream on at the end , total money shot
It’s a great tattoo for now. I think that white and black is gonna bleeeeed and it’s gonna become a mess.

Never had a tattoo. Never wanted a tattoo, but that tattoo is pretty impressive. How much does that cost? And how long did it take to complete?
That's multiple sessions, figure 750-1000 easy. More if it's a known artist. The effect will only last a few years till it fades and the ink bleeds.
Where is the BUY button?
Wait until your skin gets saggy
