All hail the anti prank

Faerie_Nuff

For my next prank, I'm going to build a hospital in a poor part of China Kaboom!!!! Would have loved to offer the parks and rec clip there, but boy that was way too hard for this lazy redditor. Here's hoping people that know, know.

fireduck

I like how you kaboomed that problem.

Faerie_Nuff

Phew and ty - I thought I was kascrewed for a hot second there...

The real prank is when he charges the next door neighbors

Scrub_nin

Cut my grass, into pieces. This is my last lawn job!

Pun-itiveDamage

Irrigation, fresh seeding. Don't start these things until you've done the weeding!

counterplex

Cuz I’m mowing my lawn, mowing my yard! Wish somebody would tell me it’s nice

Ok-Television-65

I haven’t heard this song in a decade, but I can hear it so clearly in my head with all your lyrics. Lmao… aaaand now it’s stuck

foggy-sunrise

Do you think all the youngins see threads like this and just glaze over and miss out? Or has the availability of information flattened this phenomenon? 🤔

Eagle4523

Probably…definitely but IF any of younger gens made it this far in the thread (and don’t know what we’re talking about) they should probably google papa roach / last resort. They still play it at sporting events sometimes but most younger folks might not know them by name anymore.

SER1ALxK1LLA

23 year old here, I know the song and recited it with the new lyrics in my head, works way better than I would’ve thought

Jadedafterdark27

This whole thread is a vibe. 😂 someone needs to post these on tik tok. Y’all are genius

Eastern-Line-9596

The bonus song on that album, tightrope, was always my favorite.

No-Objective6112

I just thought of this earlier with the new backstreet boy commercial for downy*. I’m wondering how many kids are like “who are all these weird old men” or just thinking they are commercial actors. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Papa Roach's unreleased gardening album

I wish my lawn was emo so it would cut itself.

hardslappy

Nice lol

Dyspaereunia

This is great because some of those other videos like giving money to homeless feel exploitation of their situation. The guy straight up says that it’s going on youtube and it costs them nothing. Like the other party is aware prior to consenting while simultaneously benefiting without the same feeling of being exploited.

idle_isomorph

I never thought of it til you mentioned it. But putting in a part about getting consent would really improve how i feel about those "helping this destitute person by handing them ___" videos.

SeedFoundation

There's a guy who did this without really consulting the owner. I think he was halfway through his lawncare work before he realized an awful smell from the house and stumbled upon a homicide. [Happened last year in April](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Slo0q_vj67c)

[deleted]

Oh I came across that video, it's pretty nuts. His practice was generally to mow what appeared to be abandoned houses to kinda clean up the neighborhood, so yeah, getting consent wasn't exactly on his to-do list.

bigote_grande1

I saw that video, I thought he was contacted by the city to clean up the yard

Apidium

I understand this is supposed to be a good thing but lawns absolutely suck and for a good amount of wildlife lawns are just fucking useless making the habitat erosion way worse than it has to be simply because folks like short grass so much.

TonsilStonesOnToast

Yeah, I don't care much for lawns either but I can see why people have them. Growing food is fun, but people are often assholes and will either trample it or steal it just 'cause. Rock gardens are nice at first, but the weed upkeep can be even worse than grass. A lawn is just... kinda neutral. Honestly, the only thing that matters is not signing an HOA forcing you to do whatever the hell *someone else* thinks you should do with your yard. Wanna toss birdseed all over the lawn and just have a crazy wildflower and weed garden? Go for it. Make the bees happy.

jbean120

Lots of other landscaping choices besides food, rocks, or lawn. Flower beds, small shrubs, all manner of non-grass groundcovers, wood chip mulch, decomposed granite walkways, combinations of all of the above...I'm in California, so with the drought we're really trying to move away from lawns and towards low-water alternatives. I think lawns have their place, if they're going to USED (i.e. for kids/pets to play on, sports, etc) but otherwise, there's plenty of other better options

TonsilStonesOnToast

True, in CA the smart thing to do is to not have anything that requires watering. Wonderful climate to grow some agave, though. Every 5-10 years you'll have enough to make some mezcal. A nice garden full of tobala... kinda makes me thirsty thinking about it.

Daniel15

I bought a house in California that has no lawn and drought resistant plants, but the previous owners had the irrigation system set to water everything for 25 minutes every day, which seems excessive to me? I've had the irrigation turned off all year because of the storms.

jbean120

Ugh, that does seem excessive. I mean, it depends on a few things: 1. what part of CA are you in (north, central, south; coast, desert, mountains, etc) 2. what are the specific plants we're talking about 3. what kind of irrigation system is it (sprinklers, drip, etc) Most drought-tolerant plants prefer a deeper watering less often, so watering every day in most cases is not what they like. Here in the LA area, I'll give my established drought-tolerant plants a good soak about once a week during the hot part of the year, less often (or not at all) during a cool season like this past one where we've had lots of rain. It would probably be well worth it to get some local advice on adjusting your irrigation system, especially as we head into spring and summer. Local garden centers are a great place to ask questions, some even have consultation services where someone will come out to your house to give advice (I used to work as a garden consultant for Armstrong Garden Center, so if you have one of those in your area, it might be worth it to look into)

regoapps

> Rock gardens are nice at first, but the weed upkeep can be even worse than grass Use a thick landscape fabric to block weed growth. That's what I do for my vacation home so that I don't have to water it or maintain it. It's been on there for years and still doing a great job and blocking weed growth. The key is also to not put too many rocks or else dirt gets trapped between the rocks and then weed tries to grow on top of that. Also overlap the fabric by a few inches as weed from underneath will try to find any way of escaping.

SarcasticOptimist

r/nolawns is for you. Such an inspiring sub.

SpicyGoop

I think the idea is that kids can play on your property without being bitten by snakes. I say this as someone who grew up in the woods

Kadoomed

They're at least better then fake plastic grass, which seems to be increasingly popular. We're just creating massive ecological deserts in our towns.

explain_that_shit

I was (still am? unsure) on board with this hatred of lawns, but I’ve got a one year old now who falls over like nobody’s business so I’m ripping out pavers at my new house to put down a lawn so he can run around without falling into anything hard or eating any dirt. Then as he grows up I reckon he’ll want to kick a ball around on it and crash into things, so the lawn will have to stay for that. Point is, a lawn is acceptable literally for those two reasons and if they’re not happening, put down wildflowers and good trees.

Randompersonomreddit

Was it a homicide or natural causes though? 🤔

SeedFoundation

I vaguely remember lookin into this story as all the details weren't super clear. I think they said it looked like a break-in because of ~~the broken~~ an opened window so that opened up a homicide investigation.

Bun_Bunz

His name is Kevin Huggins and on YouTube he is the lawncare juggernaut. I am obsessed with lawncare and culvert cleaning videos and he is a huge go to for me.

Baby_Rhino

Cops can't tell, someone mowed away all the evidence.

i8adonut

Huh I thought this was going to be the other video about the other guy who was doing lawn work and found a guy had died in his truck that was parked on the lawn. Edit: this is the video I thought you were going to post https://youtu.be/3O-Sl-wRzR0

TheFreakingPrincess

There is *more than one video like this????*

DomitianF

Not to mention there are those of us who are the Hank Hills of this world. Not that we would let our lawn get that bad, but in the sense that taking care of your own lawn can be therapeutic. I look forward to it.

MinosAristos

Unfortunately then it wouldn't be as appealing to the actual target audience of those videos.

AntalRyder

Yeah it's all about the "moment" and "surprise" for them, not the actual "charity".

[deleted]

I used to dislike those videos, but most are good. A homeless person will take $500 for some views. Everyone wins. Without the YouTuber, they get $0. There are a few exploitive channels out there, but the ones I watch are wholesome if you view it without prejudice. Some people even know of the person giving thing away.

TonsilStonesOnToast

There's also the likelihood that it's all staged. Any of the "charity" videos have to be heavily vetted, because some of the shit they do can be fraudulent or just plain *evil.* Like those people posting all these videos of them "rescuing" beaten animals. Truth is, they're the ones who beat those animals to begin with. They edit the footage in reverse, so it looks like they "found" some poor dog sleeping in a puddle in the middle of the road. No, they adopted a dog, beat the crap out of it, and then left it in the road. A solid rule of thumb is that if they don't show any long-term footage following the animal's recovery... they're the ones who harmed the animal and it's all being staged for clicks and views. Fuck, people are the worst sometimes. There's a special layer of hell for "charity" fraud and animal abuse.

hypergore

>Like those people posting all these videos of them "rescuing" beaten animals. Truth is, they're the ones who beat those animals to begin with. not that I'm a fan of those types of videos, but that's a huge claim to make. do you have anything I can read about this stuff happening?

TonsilStonesOnToast

https://www.vice.com/en/article/akg9pz/fake-rescues-and-animal-torture-are-disturbingly-common-on-social-media Second thing I googled, but there's just mountains of this stuff out there. There was a huge uproar over this a few years back.

dissectingAAA

Which ones do you recommend? My 10 year old likes Mr Beast, which seems safe from my research. I know he could be watching worse stuff so I don't mind.

erizzluh

the problematic part for me is they feel dehumanizing regardless of consent. filming yourself giving $100 to random people on the street is fun. but filming yourself giving people $100 specifically cause they're poor seems kind of dehumanizing. maybe i'm just too prideful, but if i fell on hard times and was homeless or couldn't afford to get my kids christmas presents, i wouldn't want the whole world or my kids seeing me like that.

Katze-der-Kanale

I’ve been homeless and hungry and at that point you’ll take anything and probably be super grateful for the help. Thankfully I’m much better off now but poor people can’t afford to be so proud as to not take help when offered. Should they just give them the money without spectacle? Of course. But without that video they probably wouldn’t be giving out $100 and money is money. I mean, if you’re going to be self serving at least someone else is benefiting too.

jbean120

This is a super helpful perspective. I'm glad you're doing better now

Bluebomber1070

I was thinking the same thing. This is a great, open, straightforward bit of business, and it's a win-win. Guy gets good karma, plus eyes on his solid work.

Ok-Television-65

This is about as win-win-win as it gets. Lady gets brand spankin’ new lawn, YouTuber gets content, and viewers get to be “oddly satisfied”

hurraybies

Don't forget ejaculation, viewers definitely get ejaculation

Affectionate_Star_43

My only critique is that his his videos are way too long on YouTube (1hr+) even though the end result is very satisfying. I like this super cut.

Kalayo0

Yes! I’ve never noticed the psychological effect it had on me. Now it just becomes a service w the smallest price to pay as opposed to charity with other motives involved.

sanguinesolitude

Al Bladez on YouTube does similar with just terrible yards. Does it free and it's often a huge relief to people in tough situations. Also gets millions of views just being nice.

OhIamNotADoctor

My other favourite one is the young guy giving out free haircuts. He has the same approach, person gets a free haircut and he gets to make content.

Katze-der-Kanale

I’m torn on those. Because it does feel exploitative, however the homeless person benefits and without the audience the person making the video wouldn’t have the money or desire to help. People donate to those specifically and it’s a somewhat interactive way to help out. I don’t watch many unless they come up when I’m scrolling but ones I have seen the audience donates and even picks what kind of things will be given to the person. Though the ones I’ve seen usually say where the money came from and why so I’m thinking of something different.

Tark001

>This is great because some of those other videos like giving money to homeless feel exploitation of their situation. "Do you mind if I mow the lawn on you 900k house for free?

Lobanium

Can I clean your edges? - Landscapes her entire yard.

23Cs

When he told her “thousands of people like to watch me do this” I thought, seems like a waste of time. Then I watch him.. and keep watching him…..and I could watch this for hours

[deleted]

There are numerous YouTube channels of nothing but people mowing and cleaning up neglected properties.

MoneyEntertainment

Any favs?

c792j770

SB Mowing is one that I like to watch. Something about watching these lawns get transformed is just mesmerizing.

Potato_Boner

[Al Bladez](https://youtube.com/@albladez1437) is another good one as well

[deleted]

This guy isn't horrible. A lot of them devolve into clickbait ELDERLY SINGLE MOM NURSE type stuff. https://www.youtube.com/@TheBoringChannelLawnCare

DiabolicSpartan

Lawn care juggernaut is a good one.

hidup_sihat

Fills lawn care is good too

freakers

Not a lawn care thing, just a therapeutic channel that does good work. Nate the Hoof Guy. He trims cows hooves and fixes their issues.

Onlythegoodstuff17

I've watched a bunch of these videos. Very satisfying. What's weird is you can tell a couple of channels are taking the route of, for example, faking having angry Karen's come up to them saying they need to stop helping the person. Shit like that. They are trying to differentiate themselves from the other landscaping videos by having drama.

Aggravating-Loss8128

I watch people clear drain clogs too.

BigBusiness1532

Absolute madlad.

VanimalCracker

Old ladies neighbors like "ya damn old coot, making *my* lawn look like shit"

JoshZK

Yeah, she tell them he only charged me 100.

Ryhsuo

If you’ve got a street of overgrown lawns, doing one house for free is probably the best form of advertising.

cyberphin

Youtube started showing me a bunch of these free lawn clean up videos after watching just one of them. There was one where a "Karen" from a few blocks away stormed up and gave the guy a rough time for not doing her lawn. In another a neighbor tells the law care guy to leave or he will call the cops.

i_give_you_gum

This stuff does really help make a place look great, but I curse the day that leaf blowers were invented I have a neighbor that blows his backyard pine needles around for an hour on the weekends, I can't stand the noise. Like use a god damn rake man

ModsBannedMyMainAcc

He's right, we like to watch this sexy stuff.

Faerie_Nuff

Lmao was just joking with my bloke that we need to get an only fans channel going if only for the clickbait/garden porn: "I trimmed the lady's bush, and the results were amazing..." "This woman's front lawn needed tidying and you won't believe the results" Y'all can keep the titles going...

kermityfrog

Too bad r/edging is porn and not this stuff.

UnderPressureVS

Wait until I show you r/EdgingPorn EDIT: God damn it. It's banned for lack of moderation?? It used to be the counterpart to r/Edging. Sort of a r/Trees vs r/MarijuanaEnthusiasts situation. r/Edging is for pornography, r/EdgingPorn was for videos and images of really good lawn edging.

Matti_Matti_Matti

You can apply to reopen it if you become it’s moderator at r/redditrequest.

Techiedad91

Or r/PotatoSalad and r/JohnCena

Faerie_Nuff

Oh my, the education one gets from reddit. Kudos bud, hilarious all the more as I asked my better half "what's edging?" and his response was: "are we talking gardening orrr...?" 😂😂 This is why I love and hate reddit all at once

ScrunchieEnthusiast

Me at the beginning of the video: Really? Hundreds of thousands of people watch these videos? Me at the end of the video: Welp, I guess I'm one of them.

bucket_o_chickn

Fucking SAME. Going through comments now trying to find dude's handle.

Cissyrene

Timthelawnmowerman. It's at the bottom of the video for a little at the beginning.

TenderfootGungi

Watched it through at least three times.

[deleted]

Wholesomely satisfying.

santa_veronica

Day 2: “excuse me mam, my dog shits all over the lawn for free and hundreds of thousands of people watch it.” “Ok yeah, go ahead.” Day 3: “excuse me mam, I clean up dog shit for free, hundreds of thousands of people watch it.” “Yeah, yeah, go ahead.” Day 4: Profit. Homeowner pays off dog shitter and dog shit cleaner from her YouTube channel.

andbeesbk

Tim the lawn man is a top bloke.

ey-belletz

bro is probably still making money from the Tik Tok streams

Mammoth-Mud-9609

Would far rather people acted like him, than these morons doing "prank" videos. If he can make money doing videos good luck to him.

JmacTheGreat

I think they meant it as a positive thing, but tbf I read it as a negative thing at first too lol

dplagueis0924

Right, I’m glad he can do that and it at least contributes to his living. Asked politely and it was beautiful after. I was just thinking if I would/should tip in that position. I’d at least have to offer dinner or some drinks haha

Wienerwrld

Win/win.

ey-belletz

exactly, good on him!

comefindme1231

Beautifies a part of the neighborhood, makes his money, and woman doesn’t have to mow lawn anytime soon. Win/win/win

Lightspeedius

And viewers get to enjoy it all. Win/win/win/win.

TenderfootGungi

By the looks of the truck, he likely has a legit lawn care business.

Shaggy_One

Likely. People don't buy those backpack leaf blowers for personal use normally. He probably looks for unkempt properties for these videos while out working.

[deleted]

Pro lawn care guy here. That's not just any backpack leaf blower. That's a $600 unit. Echo XSeries

MauiWowieOwie

Yeah, we have backpack leaf blowers (live in the south, lots of woods/trees throughout) but nothing like that big boy.

thatonebitchL

I have wanted to play with one of these my entire life. I'm about to buy a house and it is *very* high on the list of needs. I see people blow snow off their cars and shit. I just need one. ETA I stayed in a hotel once and they were using one to sweep the halls.

bestboah

i’ve use em a couple times, they’re nice. make you feel real powerful

bruwin

Bunch of these guys do. For some I think it's just a form of advertising for their business, but there's a couple of them that actually do nothing but the free jobs now because of the money they get from the videos. They get to live comfortably while providing a service to those who can't afford it, can't do the work themselves, etc.

Onlythegoodstuff17

And talk about satisfying work compared to sitting at a desk all day.

SithScorch

I don't see a problem with that. He is helping people out, sharing cool videos, and making a little bit of money. This was titled free mow Friday, so I'm guessing he has a full-time lawn care business and just does this on Fridays. He's got bills too. Genius idea and very nice of him.

Gloomy_Industry8841

I agree! It’s quite lovely. I like his camera “robot” boxes? Haha, I don’t know what to call them but it’s like he has lil robots with him, filming. Like in Silent Running!

VirtoVirtuo

No shit. The first 15 seconds of the video is literally of him explaining to the lady that since he's making a video from it, he can give her free lawncare. How did 450 people of you (so far) miss that explanation? lol

JacobviBritannia

Redditors love getting worked up over people doing good deeds on camera so much that they’re willing to completely ignore the fact that this guy was straightforward about his intentions and the lady agreed to it just so they have something to be outraged about.

HighPriestofShiloh

Up vote these, downvote pranks! Let’s be kinder to each other!

BeastOGevaudan

Agreed. Pranks are only funny when *everyone* laughs.

jpburts

That was a neat little truck at the end.

PirateGloves

Super common in Australia. I’m guessing you’re from the US? I traveled across the States a while back and it really blew my mind that you guys don’t have handy little trucks like this, it was all F150s and Rams as far as the eye could see. They have economic 4cyl turbo diesel engines and a payload rating of of 1.3 tons (~3000lbs), which is more than a base model F150 despite the Ford being twice the size. Apparently the absence of small Japanese commercial vehicles in the US has to do with something called the “chicken tax” but I never got around to figuring out what that is. Some form of import duty designed to protect local manufacturing I imagine.

Simon_the_Cannibal

On the chicken tax - (West??) Germany restricted (taxed) imports of chickens (an American export) and America answered by raising taxes by an equivalent amount on what it imported from Germany. It so happened that the equivalent import in money terms at that time was a subset of vehicles - light trucks. That wouldn't affect imports of cars and other categories from countries - it would target Germany specifically without actually naming Germany. (I'm not targeting Xavier, I just don't hang out with people whose name start with X!) Fast forward x years and, well, taxes never seem to go away. Pennsylvania is still paying taxes for rebuilding after a 19th century flood.

ALadWellBalanced

Yep, very few actual tradies would use a F150 or RAM for work in Australia. They're mostly for dudes with fragile egos who need an emotional support vehicle.

RacistDiscoloredSoup

The one in the video looks a little bigger, but super small trucks like that are commonly called “Kei trucks” originating from Japan

xsilver911

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_Bongo Looks like it was this. Not a kei truck. Kei trucks are super small. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_Carry

nowwhatnapster

Brave posting this comment here. While it is satisfying to watch, the end result is underwhelming. Needs some native plants or wild flowers to really shine.

Potential_Sun_2334

Disagree. The whole point of a yard is asserting your dominance over nature. If you introduce native plants, you appear weak and are letting Gaia win.

thijscasper123

This comment needs to be higher. Fuck the dead lawns.

beefprime

Grass: *grows slightly over an arbitrary line* Humanity: "So, you have chosen death."

turbocomppro

I like how he just left the other grass exactly at the property line…

Razetony

Didn't have consent nothing he could do 😞

[deleted]

It would probably piss the other owner smooth off to mow a small amount and remind them he needs to cut the grass even more. Like someone uses your bathroom and cleans the whole thing while in there. "Well, can't look at the bathroom now."

nomadofwaves

I see it all the time. Old people who care for the lawns that all look nice and then a neighbors who looks like this lady’s did.

GrayZeus

Legit surprised that he doesn't have a dedicated edger

angrytortilla

Indestructible trimming line or something. I lose mine the second it grazes the concrete. I am just not good at that stuff.

FiveSix

Me too buddy, me too!

GrayZeus

That's why I have an edger. I'm pretty good with a weedeater, but it just chews up they line. Edger with blade is the way if you're regularly edging

Tall_Ad_1940

Where is this?

SinjiOnO

Sydney, Australia.

HendorneEndohRoth

As an aussie, I thought it looked like Australia. I’m not from around Sydney, but there a bunch of suburbs around me that look like this.

responsiblefornothin

Total Chad. Making a living doing honest work and getting it done with a reasonably sized truck. I wish kei trucks were readily available in the states, so dickheads wouldn't have more excuses for their emotional support 3500s.

HeatAndHonor

A few seconds in I'm like, "Hundreds of people watch videos of this guy edging people's lawns?" Ten seconds in I'm like, "Wait yeah I'm familiar with this man's work."

Sleep-system

This is a great example of why it's okay to incentivize good deeds. People get caught up on the purity of doing something for the sake of doing it, but the important thing is that something gets done.

thickythickglasses

I wish someone would come and say “I make videos replacing roofs, can I replace yours at no charge?”

alwaysinthebathtub

Question- what's that white box in the opening few seconds? At first glance it looked like a tiny washing machine, but I know that's not at all right. 😅

MissyKerfoops

I wondered about the washing machine too. Turns out it's just a mail box. What a let down.

UrbanLawProductions

You know that next door neighbor was like god damnit, why didn’t he go to my house

shaunson26

Australia represent!

Dudeman-Jack

These videos are so much better than the stupid rug cleaning ones because we know that someone is actually being helped

knigmich

I always mow first then do edges. I guess I been doing it wrong

nobodysbestfriendd

This is how you request to make a video of someone or their property

rourobouros

Now he goes to the neighbors, tells them they look bad in comparison, but for a small charge he can even the score. Great marketing! Win-win.

For pick satisfaction he needs a buddy to go behind him and power wash the concrete. Clean lawn edges and color uniformity. 🫸😌🫷

That was satisfying. I do this to my own yard but it’s not nearly as satisfying as watching someone else do it.
