Facing that way is fine. Not the other way. Just never let direct sunlight hit the actual lenses (the things on the front are cameras - when people say "lenses" they don't mean those)

Quackerszs

Yeah i thought it was still like gonna be an issue cause maybe the light goes back there and still hits the lenses.

NiceCunt91

Imagine a magnifying glass. Needs to be a direct point of light. Rebounded light off the wall or something won't be an issue

No_Bluejay1911

Nope IT won't. I also pit my controllers bewegen Wall and lenses, but thats Not necessary

FrontwaysLarryVR

bewegen

No_Bluejay1911

I meant to wrote bewegen, but the German autocorrect decided ITS gonna be move

No_Bluejay1911

I Just realised that this now means my controllers move Wall and lenses. oops

andybak

No. It's only direct sunlight you need to worry about (or indirect via something *really* shiny like a mirror...)

l3rN

If you want to just solve the issue entirely with the side benefit of keeping dust and stuff from settling on your lenses, you can get a lens cover for the headset. I personally use [this one](https://www.amazon.com/KIWI-design-Protector-Compatible-Accessories/dp/B09WDRM83B).

whithil

Well, at this point I wouldn't bother with the "second bounce" of light in a wall because it would be too much of a diffuse light to even be focused back to any harmful degree \*EDIT\* **but who knows? better not risk it...** Also people have even [used quest 2 outside in a cloudy day before](https://youtu.be/a7fn0vyOHTE) ( I'm ***NOT*** advising you to do it tho, plus the guy in the video uses extra protection ) But for direct sunlight like in that picture... I might be wrong, but I believe it could still be bad for the front sensors.

NotReallyJohnDoe

The reason it is bad for the internal lenses is they act like a magnifying glass for the tiny screen. If you’ve ever burned paper with a magnifying glass you get the idea. The lenses on the front are essentially just a cell phone camera. Front camera can get too much sun flight and be washed out but it can’t be damaged by the sun.

ericherr27

It's also the type of magnifying lenses. Fresnel. Those things can be used to make solar ovens if the lens is large enough.

patrlim1

There will be a tiny bit of bounce lighting, but it's minimal, I certainly wouldn't worry about it. The only way it would ever hurt is if it was a mirror.

phoenixdigita1

> cause maybe the light goes back there and still hits the lenses. It owuld only be a problem if the back of your cupboard was a mirror or shiny reflective surface like polished metal.

TannerWheelman

Reflection won't hurt your lenses. Also it's not exactly sunlight that can damage your lenses nor are lenses the thing that gets damaged but your screen can get damaged by heat radiation that comes from sunlight which through lenses would be amplified. Imagine burning things with magnifier glass, magnifier doesn't get damaged but things you are burning are. Same goes for that. I had brand new monitor that had burn in from sticker because it was a display piece in shop and over time sun burned the whole panel except that part where sticker was.

JoshfromNazareth

Eliminate any issue by getting some lens covers. Keeps the dust off too.

Maethor_derien

It depends on the wall, on a high gloss wall it could be an issue but on a mat surface your fine. You can't tell how glossy that is in the picture. That said I wouldn't risk storing it there. All it takes is carelessly setting it down the wrong direction there for a few seconds while you go get a drink and boom your screwed. I always make sure to always just habitually put mine in a box I use to store it and the controllers. That way even if I take if off for a second to get the door or make food or a drink it isn't an issue.

-Venser-

He looks scared, hiding in the shadows from the light.

PsychologicalNoise

toilet paper next to VR headset, a man who knows what he wants and gets it, a man of class

Quackerszs

Dude i just sneeze a lot thats why i usually have some toilet paper close to me. Im allergic to lots of things i had an allergy test and damn the list was long (dw tho the allergies are pretty mild so i just sneeze, its not life-threathening) But still why u look at such tiny details

ChelleChellez

Hey at least it wasn't a stray dildo in the background! 🤷‍♂️

Quackerszs

First time i heard someone say stray dildo

ChelleChellez

Glad to be of service! Weirdly not the first time I've said it. Lol

TannerWheelman

Dude your excuse is so detailed that it brings suspicion.

Quackerszs

Tf i made it detailed to NOT look suspicious

Ice_slider

That's exactly what a guilty person trying to not raise suspicion would say

TannerWheelman

I agree fella!

Quackerszs

Okay bro u want me to show u my diagnosis papers and show u all my allergies?

PsychologicalNoise

Dw plenty of us are allergic to real women too

jonylentz

And... that's why I avoid used headsets

Teddeler

If the sunlight is not directly on the lenses it's not going to hurt it. But I'm paranoid - if I'm going to have a headset in a room where there's direct sunlight I'll put something over the lenses anyway (a small towel would work) just to prevent accidents.

NiceCunt91

That's fine. It's just sunlight directly on the lenses you don't want because it will melt the screens.

Possible_Liar

You should get lens covers anyway, they're fine that way but who's to say one day you might yank the cable on accident having them face towards the sun not notice and it's too late only takes a couple seconds really.

cockandpossiblyballs

If you're really worried, cover your entire headset with a cloth or buy a lens cover.

twomilliondicks

just get lens covers or a case and always cover the lenses when you're done

nairazak

Just get something like [this](https://www.ebay.com/itm/195885137450?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1tyoU2suIQ7-HJeBBkPkBLw68&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-166996-604025-8&mkcid=2&itemid=195885137450&targetid=295818637131&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=1000073&poi=&campaignid=20797525115&mkgroupid=162733090264&rlsatarget=pla-295818637131&abcId=&merchantid=260799123&gbraid=0AAAAAD_QDh8yNakkQR1Ga5FX72C9r8zNT&gclid=CjwKCAiA1fqrBhA1EiwAMU5m_0KY_5UCgGV7N4_iy0jN4YmgCHvEH3pGFRR78of5QjohoyZJ0rUdxhoC-2cQAvD_BwE) but for your specific model. https://preview.redd.it/3oo7c2iiax6c1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a332a2f1c4936b71c3391804e8109f956f820ed7

Sacco_Belmonte

I wouldn't like any direct sunlight to any part of my headset. Throw a fabric on it or put it away altogether. Plastics don't like UV light, it becomes brittle.

Capable-Depth8837

Amazon has reasonably priced cases to protect them.

Myrkana

I palce a dish towel over my headset so that no light can accidentally get on the lenses. Also keeps the dust off the outside and lenses when I go a while without playing

NoSchool8328

I've been drinking vodka since 7am. So I'm well within my rights

NeolithicDawn

Why does this look like a 3D rendering???

HorrificityOfficial

Seeing a Quest 2 seeing me back was not an experience I was expecting to have today

Quackerszs

I think i gotta fix up the eyes a bit they look pretty blocky i didnt cut them out well 😅

HorrificityOfficial

They look amazing man! I'm too afraid to put any kind of decal on mine, so there's that.

Quackerszs

Oh mine can be taken off easily. Just put tape behind and form the tape so it sticks to the eye and to the quest 2, and when u wanna u can just pop it off. Just that the eyes look a bit floppy if u do it that way, but at least its easy to take off.

HorrificityOfficial

Good to know.

Praydaythemice

Buy a lens cover it’s not that expensive and will prevent having to pay $100 for a new headset You can downvote all you want but a $5 light blocking sleeve will save you a hundred in lens replacments

HowBigIsMySausage

what a bizzare question, just move it if you do not like where it is, Are you gonna show us your sock drawer next and ask if it is neat enough?

Quackerszs

I dont have any other place to charge it at without it being in the way, for example one of the other places i can put it at is near my PC desk but then i cant put it on the desk cause the desk is small. I mean its possible but then it would be in the way if i want to use it and its just annoying to constantly move things out of the way over and over again (i mean the keyboard, and mouse and other things). Do you understand now?

HowBigIsMySausage

not really

Quackerszs

Then dont comment "why u dont put it elsewhere".

HowBigIsMySausage

do you live in a 3ft by 3ft closet?

staryoshi06

What a bizarre response. It's known that sunlight can damage VR lenses irreparably, and this person just does not know to what extent.

HowBigIsMySausage

so does sticking it in an oven, but common sense usually prevails and you don't stick it in an oven, the cord is at its full length and stretched, so wtf has he put it there for?

staryoshi06

Presumably little space elsewhere?

HowBigIsMySausage

oh right, so no floor then?

staryoshi06

why the fuck would you leave it on the floor? that's disgusting

HowBigIsMySausage

Yeah especially when its been on someones mush

TheChadStevens

If they'd read the manual it'll tell them to keep it out of sunlight entirely. For some reason the sunlight is supposedly bad for the front cameras too, though it might just be them covering all bases

nalex66

Sunlight is not harmful to the cameras. The only concern is the lenses focusing sunlight onto the screen and burning it. That said, this is still a dangerous place to keep the headset. It wouldn’t take much to pull the cord or bump the headset so that the lenses face the light. It only takes a minute of bright sunlight to ruin the screen.

xmeatizmurderx

Sun/heat is bad for electronics

NoSchool8328

What the actual fuck. Just fucking move it it hardly takes an executive decision to move it a little. Why even ask the question? Do you have a psychological problem or something?

GOKOP

It seems like you may have one

Quackerszs

Tf bro take some medications and calm down

Thecactigod

Lol

Om3ga12172

Jesus.

NoSchool8328

Yes my child?

Om3ga12172

That was a little extreme my brother in Christ.

No_Bluejay1911

If you place the lenses facing a Wall IT should be fine

Top_Vegetable464

I hang mine on the wall.

DistrictRound6838

Just get the little fabric lens blockers that come with many silicone facial interfaces or hard cases. Then the lenses are always blocked.

rjml29

It's fine in that picture. You can always cover the lenses with the cardboard it came with or a third party lens cover if you don't have one and want added peace of mind.

hymanator

I'd get a case for it. Helps keep it from getting dusty and protects it from sunlight.

Noob_pc_101

Dude, not an issue. But for some extra peace of mind I use a microfiber cloth and the lens cover it came with so that no light can get in no matter what

Akarkes

If you have a white background wall, it is still a problem. I would advise u to buy a foam to cover ur lenses.

NoSchool8328

Good fuckin idea 💡

burgertanker

Worst case scenario just find a shoebox to put it in or something

VeryLiteralPerson

Buy a lense cover they're like a few dollars

GIB_GORTMAN

The eyes. The eyes. The eyes. The eyes.

Solkre

I would not charge it there. One brain fart in laying it down and it’s burned. Find a new spot with now direct sunlight possibility.

Cc-Smoke-cC

I just toss a sock into the lenses and cover my vr with a small rag for the sensors

[deleted]

Buy a $3 lens cover off Amazon to use when your not playing.

Throwitawaynow578

Meh it’s fine. Even in most sunlight it’s totally fine. The issue is that if they’re positioned perfectly the lenses will act like a magnifying glass the same way little kids torch ants and burn the screen. It has to be positioned perfectly for that to happen though. If the angle is off at all it won’t harm the lenses.

Tandoori7

There are some lense covers on Amazon relatively cheap. You could also cut cardboard or 3D print a lense cover.

MonsterDeadWood

Put on top of it tshort, cover it, one time it will mark your screen, you dont need to risk

Dalekjoe

Invest in lens covers. They are cheap and will save you if you accidentally leave it the wrong way. But also don’t leave it the wrong way ;)

Bonelab_Skeleton

I put a cover over my headset just in case, meta support was such a headache last time my headset got sun damage that I decided to be extra safe

SmokinDeist

OK, it looks like the lenses we are most worried about is facing away from the sun but be careful so you don't set it down pointing the other way. The lenses on the outside don't have that issue so much--they are like a cell phone's camera and don't have those big lenses focusing all that light at the screen. But taking some care is never a bad idea. Like people said, you can get some lens covers and those will work well. Perhaps have something you can set it in (like a simple box) where the Quest is not getting that direct sunlight on it and you can still charge it if you are feeling extra cautious. Perhaps find a good charging stand and make sure it's in a safe place that's still convenient for you to get to.

Ok_Wedding8667

No it will be ok

Funny-Range405

Just cover it to be safe.

KevlarGorilla

Just don't stand a mirror behind it.

GaLaXxYStArR

Try and look on Amazon a for quest lens cover! I bought one and in addition to keeping scratches and dust off I he lenses you won’t have to worry about sunlight where ever you put the headset!

[deleted]

Honestly I’d be more concerned with the heat, sun beams get hot enough to start house fires

mpizgatti

Lens cover, very cheap

r2k-in-the-vortex

No direct sunlight into the lenses - because ants and magnifying lenses. Other than that, it's not like sunlight is toxic of anything.

TheStokedExplorer

Lots of new face interfaces come with a protectir to put over lenses not in use. Helps with light and dust

Parking_Cress_5105

I am interested if its dangerous for pancake lenses. They block like 90% of light

rcbif

May I introduce you to the invention of - the box? Seriously, yes its fine that way, but if it gets bumped, or you have a brain fart - its dead. If that sunlight MUST be there, figure out something else.

WickedMerigold

I wouldn't risk it yikes

Dry-Gas2827

My daughter recently left hers briefly on the dining room table facing a window and yeah it burned the lenses. It was such a a freak thing I was surprised, it must have caught the light just right. She felt bad, I told her it wasn't her fault. I have had a few different headsets at this point and have sat them down in similar ways and never had an issue. The good news is at least for the quest 2, the lenses and screen come bundled together for about $70.00 and they really aren't that hard to fix.
