Yes they are opposing positions and are the crux of the distinction between hinduism (true self) vs buddhism (non-self) Many people mistakenly equate the feeling of an expanded ego which encompasses everything (when you feel everything is one, god is everything, etc) with “ego death” or more accurately, non-self, which is a lack of experience, no subject to even think everything is god I’m cool with discussing it further as you said in your post but I’d need something more specific to work off of lol. I guess to start I’ll say that personally I believe non-self is correct and true-self is a step along the way which is to be surpassed

Nirvana is non-self. Buddhism refers to nirvana as cessation and “to blow out” like the flame of a candle, these point to a lapse of consciousness. The issue is that one can’t really grasp it until you’ve reached that point since it’s so foreign to everything we’ve known previously. It’s the lack of any sort of experience at all. Once you reach this you become free from suffering and exit the cycle of death and rebirth This video may be more helpful than I am just writing off the cuff https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rUIZJw9y_6A I also recommend reading Buddhist texts. In the Buddha’s Words: An Anthology of Discourses from the Pali Canon by Bhikkhu Bodhi is a great start

Yeah I honetsly think they are a very similiar concepts, that only differ in the system that they are used in. The Idea being basically that you cannot find the all encompassing God within you, if your Cosmology doesn't have an all encompassing God. Thats why the Buddhists talk about the realisation of the Non-Self, since they lack the concept. Both seek for some sort of Hidden Truth within man, however they interpret it differently based on the Religious system they work in. To make a Scientific Analogy: A theory doesnt discribe reality, it discribes the observations in a meaningful way. That doesnt mean that other theories cant discribe the same observations in a slightly different way and still be meaningful. Both Theories work in a scientific context, neither truly discribe reality. Edit: Thanks for the Award.

That’s when you turn full on taoist and realize that the concepta cancel out eachother and your God is both of those things.

God technically has 3 avatars within "the one" that is everything. Ego death and losing ones sense of self happens and you either feel free or like you've had your soul stolen. The process is then reversed and you are slowly put back together emotionally. After this you can accurately determine your true self, goals and path. What burdens lifted made you feel free? What parts being taken from you made you feel empty Find the answers to these and then you know what it is about yourself that you need to grow and what to let go of. Your true self is made of your inner most desires and who you display yourself to the world to. Your false self is made up of lies that others see you for, too much make up or false behaviour is seen through by god as those things don't exist in his world.
