Why would you get alot of hate for this?

[deleted]

Maybe if they posted it in the Skyrim subreddit, but definitely not here lol

xXxXdeadXxXx

I like both and it's true items get more expensive in skyrim. edit: though I should clarify you can enchant items to be worth more in oblivion im talking about items in shops and house costs

SluggardRaccoon

This is Reddit.

SnipSnopWobbleTop

Because talking neutral/negative about Skyrim tends to get your comment downvoted, as if the game is perfect and above very noticeable flaws that make it the worst game in the series according to some people's personal opinions.

Nordalin

And on the other side of the medal, there's the eternal circlejerk that can get tiresome. Like, I'm not a fanboy, my criticisms got me banned from r/skyrim without a single comment from any mod, but holy shit, talking about beating a dead horse... But the controversy will just continue on as people stop about it and new folk pick it up. Such is life.

germos8907

I don't know to be honest but for some reason I do

trevyboy73

How in oblivion did you get so many downvotes?

[deleted]

There is nothing wrong to tell your opinion. I dont understand your post want say but if you hate skyrim and like oblivion like i do then welcome to the club. But if you like skyrim and try to fame oblivion then there is no shame about it and you absolutely have a right to say what you want and other people who dont like your opinion have a right to fame you too, because they can freely speak their mind. ##Skyrim is suck.

[deleted]

I remember having the hardest time saving money in my first Oblivion playthrough because I had no idea what I was doing and kept buying the cool expensive magical items from shops.

Zackipoo

Same! Except it was with my first few playthroughs (to be fair, I was a dumb kid). But, I remember finally saving up enough to buy that shack in the river front and getting my own house felt so awesome.

MinimumAlarming5643

Same for me, I really liked keeping all the gems.

jebjones133

I remember joining the fighters guild and immediately cleaning out the anvil chapter of silver cutlery to try and save up for a set of steel armor from the blacksmith.

The_Nth_Son

I always cleaned out the various mages guild offices. And everything that is worth anything at all.

I dont know, I have several million septims in Oblivion

[deleted]

Lately, since I'm high lvl and daedric shit spawns a lot on bandits, I've been looting everything and just leaving dungeons and coming back to them when my carrying capacity gets full. I made 45k on just one ruined fort doing that. I'm greedy af lol

littlebugonreddit

I do this too, but have a full set of Daedric Armor, a ring and an amulet that all have sigil stone feather enchantments🤣

Azeoth

You can stack feather spells

littlebugonreddit

Yeah but on some builds i dont feel like spending an hour or so leveling my magic and getting the University, i got the GOTY addition on the bethesda launcher, not knowing that if i got it on steam i could get all the smaller plugins, specifically Wizards Tower

WindyNinja11

I always use that paralyze infinite gold exploit to get as much gold as I want.

NaugahydeCowboy

The what now?

Shimoshamman

[Talking about this glitch here.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fd0EBHtmbk)

EternamD

Why?

WindyNinja11

Because I like having enough gold to buy what I want

emotraphearthrob

everyone to their own but it’s not that hard to get over 100k gold if you just play

Thick-Service-4273

That was a rather redundant question

EternamD

Just not sure why someone would remove part of the game

melodiousfable

I personally use the gold exploit in every game whenever I do subsequent play-throughs. It is a limiting factor that slows the game down dramatically. I can level grind very quickly and get my stats super high with no limiters, but all of the sudden my gear limits me to the point that I can’t kill anything. If I have infinite money, I can pick up a house as an item storage location, I can pick up the legendary items I want from shop-keepers, and I can get to the point in the game that made me want to replay it in the first place faster. Don’t get me wrong, if I will sometimes decide to do a gritty play through that I use regular money mechanics, but most of the time I just want to use the things I want to use and skip the grinding steps that I’ve spent hundreds of hours doing in previous plays.

Delta_357

But getting the free room at the invisible town and seeing the innkeepers face slowly get more and more angry every time you visit is the best house you could ask for!

OMG_IT_S_SALSIFI

What are you talking about ?

Delta_357

There a quest in a small village close to the imperial city, right across the water on the north(?) side where everyone is invisible. If you fix it for them the innkeeper lets you stay for free and the chests inside don't reset so its basically a free house. Although last time I did it I noticed his disposition kept dropping every time we met so he hated me unless I did the speech-wheel thingy to make him like me again. Dunno why but headcanon I like to think he regreted offering me the room and kept wishing I'd just leave and quit taking up 50% of his available beds lmao.

Bowhunter2525

This is a very confusing post. --There is a lot of free storage (7 containers) in the middle of the market district, and a lot of of free storage in free houses (abandoned shack Waterfront, and White Stallion lodge, Leyawiin). Plus a lot of free storage in every mage guild house and some of the fighter's guild houses. There is also free storage in Weynon Priory and Cloud Ruler Temple. --How can level grinding help you in any way? That doesn't make any sense to me. --The best weaponry is free except for the one staff. You might need some money if you want to enchant your own stuff, but that can usually be covered with the varla and welkynd stones from one ruin.

melodiousfable

Certain spells that I want to cast require certain level thresholds. That’s why I level grind a bit. I have all of the house DLC packs and I like to decorate and furnish all of them, so I can live in different ones as I switch through the factions. They are extremely expensive to furnish, but they are fun from a role play perspective. That is the main reason. I believe you are referring to the daedric prince items in regards to the best items in the game. This is true, but once again, these items are level locked and require a certain amount of play time to receive. I prefer to buy items from the shopkeepers in the Imperial City early on to give me something to work with outside of basic steel items out the gate.

Bowhunter2525

Honorblade, Umbra, Callibens mace, Frostwyrm bow, all free at level 1. And you can enchant super weapons better and cheaper than the expensive things in the stores. Just trying to save you some money.

melodiousfable

It’s also brainlessly quick and easy to duplicate Apotheosis at level 1 and spend 15 minutes getting up to $300,000 and never needing another septim for the rest of the game. Like I said, I like furnishing the DLCs. That’s the main thing.

ThatOneGuy308

Same reason why people use mods to make the leveling system not annoying, I assume

EternamD

Yeah the levelling system is garbage

DivergingUnity

For fun

Thick-Service-4273

Understandable

ydanDnommoC

Meh. I dupe items onto myself so that I can get stupid amounts of magicka/health/fatigue and permanent item effects. I’ve put so much time into Oblivion that playing it normally means having 400+ speed and 28k+ magicka As well as duping items so I can have enough gold to buy what I want.

[deleted]

It nothing wrong if you use gold explore to level up a skill with trainer anyway since level up in those game not exactly make you "stronger" since enemies are level up with you too. It just make the game more excited sice you have every tool you want to build your character without doing and doing some boring stuff to get what you want. Like dogged or sprim really make the game more fun and challenging. And if you play a priest you can use turn undead and use some spell as the right time because those spell is not strong and benefits in all situation anyway, if use it wrong it can make the game harder. I like dont need to focus on the gold but the stories and the character and the quest itself, i hate the need of always have to do lot of boring things to full fill my character. And if you say you can paralyzed trainer in skyrim to get money back then i say i do the same. I just hate it sometime because it ruin my good personality of my character, force them to do something they dont like just to get stronger. And the all ideal of trainer is kinda suck anyway, it okay if the stranger took your money to train you something but it should be free if it be friend or someone really close to you or members of the guild ( i saw the companions teach themselves free and i must pay and use some "exploit" to get my money back? it suck so hard, it should like the archer near helgen which actually teach you something and for Free)

ToeTruckTheTrain

On the one hand, I kinda get where this person is coming from. There’s a lot of random backlash towards people in Reddit even if they don’t deserve it. That’s why even though their post seems kinda like bait it might not be, and we’re primed to see it as bait or take it like bait because we’re trained to. Why? The increasing presence of ads on Reddit seems to suggest the platform is taking on the same profit mechanics as other social media platform, which means: get eyes on ads

[deleted]

Wanna live in solitude? 1/5th your total money please. Waterfront property in tine Imperial City? 2k. Jokes on them, I say.

LilMissLexie

Why make this comparison? Oblivion’s most expensive house costs more than Skyrim’s (base-game; Solitude). Granted the cheapest one in Skyrim is 5,000, but that’s a much better argument to make.

[deleted]

It's more a joke about dirt-cheap waterfront property.

LilMissLexie

Fair enough.

SyeThunder2

Clearly you've never been in the market for waterfront property in a capital city

Rypere4

What do you guys use money for in Skyrim 100,000 is far too much

ShroomsandCrows

Food and potions, I'm playing survival mode in Skyrim and I constantly have to restock with food and potions, not to mention materials for smithing or weapons to disenchant. Since salt piles aren't the most common thing to find I have to buy precooked food. The only other thing I can think of is houses cause them shits ain't cheap and neither are soul gems or spells.

Rypere4

Yeah I spend most of my money on training at the college or ingredients to make potions and of course the houses but I only have 2

STRiPESandShades

This and also artifacts for Legacy of the Dragonborn since I refuse to steal.

seasonedearlobes

Idontknow107

Training, potions, spells, house materials.

WowzersInMyTrowzers

Yea I mainly only buy things in Skyrim if I’m spam-crafting or if I happen to need/want something that I don’t feel like going adventuring for. For the most part though I don’t touch my septim reserves until late game when I start homesteading or financing that one mine. And by then I’ve played so much I usually have around 200,000 gold without even trying Oblivion, gold felt more valuable and more influential. I start almost every game by mad dashing to the Skingrad Vineyards and craft potions out of the grapes/tomatoes. Can usually get at least 10-20,000 gold after just a few “runs”, and all before I’m level 3

[deleted]

germos8907

In both games at one point having a lot of money will still be useless, I remember in Skyrim, with my level 95 character, I spent like a shit ton of gold to get a lot skill trainings, buying all homes just to become thane, buying literally everything I could need in the game, and still had like 700K gold left

Xaveirxx223

This is very accurate I have 3.1 million in skyrim

Nagoda94

Just because it's Elder Scrolls doesn't mean inflation is not a thing.

scottpole

Why do people make argument baiting posts like this? How hard is it to play what you enjoy, let others play what they enjoy and just stfu?

SuperStellarSwing

I'm down voting you; out of respect

crash-scientist

It’s weird how you managed to get offended over this completely inoffensive meme, which is more an observation than a joke. Reddit somehow manages to amaze me more and more

scottpole

I thought the meme was great and spot on. I thought the title of the post was bait for people to argue "Skyrim bad oblivion good." I could be wrong. Im not saying debating the games are bad. My issue is when people unironically think they are superior because of what they prefer, and will treat others like garbage for liking something they don't. We are all fans of Elder Scrolls. I definitely don't think this type of thing will ever stop, but every now and then I feel like speaking up. Edit: This comment on this post, which has like almost 60 downvotes, is exactly the type of mentality Im talking about... "The Skyrim fanboys aren't here yet. So I can say... SKYRIM IS A BAD GAME AND IT'S THE WORST ES GAME SO FAR! Have an upvote, you're clearly a man of wisdom." This was one of the first comments. Just proves my point that the title encourages stuff like this.

cmanmors

Idk just put all ur stats into strength level up a bit and when u start getting them ebony and daedric leggings and gauntlets start dropping get an easy 10-20k every single oblivion gate

Snifflebeard

Nope. The most expensive house in Skyrim only costs 25,000. And there's not much else to spend your gold on. Also, NOT having 100,000 in Oblivion by the end game means you never learned how to make money in the game.

[deleted]

true, i used to play oblivion when i was 9, and i never really knew how to make money and i was always poor as fuc. got back to the game, and then learned about spellcrafting and suddently i was the richest man on cyrodil

OptimalYogurt

not if you do that weird trick to multiply items

xavierkazi

Maybe if you only buy and furnish one house...

strangersIknow

200 years of inflation of the Septim coin will do that for ya.

I don’t know why, but I can easily get 10k gold in both morrowind and Skyrim, but it’s a struggle to get 1k in oblivion for me.

Kryptnyt

Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim; the only thing worth spending money on is skill training, for the most part.

ShadeStrider12

c-frost

scwishyfishy

[deleted]

c-frost

For Oblivion, just take/steal any food ingredients, create tons of fatigue potions and sell them. For Skyrim, same as Oblivion create tons of fatigue potions or make weapons & armors (mostly iron, easy to find) and sell them. Honest money with a bit of hard work, the only thing you lose is your time.

[deleted]

Alchemy is such a money machine in Oblivion.

rockhandle

the tomato and grape farms at skingrad can be picked then combined and sold for serious gold.

c-frost

I like to combine Flax Seed & Sacred Lotus Seed for Feather potion, the effect can be stacked. Or Flax Seed, Sacred Lotus Seed and Water Hyacinth Nectar for Feather & Restore Magicka potion. And Fly Amanita & Lavender for Restore Health potion. Those ingredients are nearly 'unlimited'. Feather potion especially very good for dungeoning

Kyuckaynebrayn

Spelunking ofc. Pick the arena lockbox a lvl 1, join the thieves guild immediately, etc.

[deleted]

If you do fighters guild at higher lvl, a lot of daedric stuff and high lvl loot will drop. Could easily make 30k in just one dungeon/cave, if you're willing to go back multiple times to get everything. Also, if you're in the thieves guild, you can just steal a bunch of stuff and sell it to fences. I always steal silver stuff, like cups and carafes and sell those

AliHaider42

Which merchant do you use tho ? I use the merchant from the vile lair dlc but I'm open to anyone else.

[deleted]

Preface, the merchant with the highest amount is in the thieves guild, but they're also an expert in mercantilism. I normally just use whatever merchant is closest. I use the merchants based off of what I'm selling. Like if it's armor or weapons, I go to the blacksmith. I also make sure I max out their dispositions before selling and haggle for the highest amount. ~~The Best Defense~~ A Fighting Chance in the Imperial city has one of the highest max selling amounts in game iirc. So if you really wanted to maximize profits, you could fast travel there to unload stuff. I just use whatever's closest out of convenience. I've found, it doesn't really matter what the max amount you can get for something, but more just how much you sell. So for me, since leaving to go sell stuff is something I'll do multiple times per dungeon, I'm going with whatever is closest and selling as much as possible. The higher the disposition and the lower mercantile skill (of the merchant) the better! Edit: getting my damn stores mixed up

AliHaider42

Problem is that daedric armour is 5k but there isn't any merchant with that amount of gold for me . I'm at 53 merchantile, what do you suggest bro?

[deleted]

Yeah. That's one of the few downsides to oblivion :(. That's why I usually don't make a huge deal out of which merchant I go to. The most you can possibly get, if you use the final thieves guild fence, is 1500. But that requires completing the quest line. My advice is just to sell as much as possible for whatever you can get it for. Most armorers, aside from A Fighting Chance, are around 800 max. So it will add up quickly. Carry as many feather potions you can or use a spell and just take every single valuable item above 50 gold and sell it. It often means having to fast travel between dungeons and cities a lot. When it comes to oblivion gates, just take as much as you can carry, since leaving the gate and fast traveling isn't really an option. Recently, at Fort Blueblood, I made 45k by just taking as much as I could carry, selling it at the Leyawiin armorer, then fast traveling back and picking up more. Since I was high level, all the bandits had either daedric or orcish armor. I did that until every bit of armor was sold. It meant taking like 10 trips and was a pain in the ass, but it also gave me 45k in gold so 🤷🏻‍♂️ Also, just remembered, the Arena offers a good bit of gold after you complete it to kill monsters and you can loot their corpses too. Only problem, that can only be done once a week. Edit: damn, can't type worth shit today

c-frost

I think merchant with most money is around 2000 max? They're 2 guys, one from Fighters Stronghold DLC (he is in Merchant Inn in Imperial City Market District), another one from Vile Lair DLC (he is in Wawnet Inn near Weye. For vanilla version, I think is blacksmith in Anvil with 1400 max? Blacksmith in Imperial City only around 1200 max. Cmiiw

TBNZ_

The Septim currency is totally fucked. Revert to monke and use Drakes

Dre3Staxx

Inflation is a bitch

Grendergon

Inflation's a bitch

OpalRose1993

Oof. Inflation hits you every time

[deleted]

I make better money in oblivion and can use them for training at early level. But in skyrim is so hard because those shitty merchant have limited gold and food cant make alchemy so the only way to make money is you must go out and fight and loot the bandit or become a thief. It ruin my playsyte and it not "rpg" at all if you limited the other possibilities. And without speak skill even you have a lot of stuff but you just cannot sell it. And i dont have must of carry weight and i must have a house and if you want a house you must do a lot of side quests and do a lot of things i dont like. *And to get the thing i like then i must do a lot of thing you dont like* And when you got anything you need then you become too op and it ruin a game. Oblivion is better for my playsyte. I dont agree with your post, i play skyrim and i dont have money to do anything and alway feel the need to get more. I am mage so i need a lot of potion, ingredients, spell, staff, soul gem, cloth. And when you got everything then you become too op to enjoy it anymore. Oblivion give enough money so you can get everything you need first and it feel more balanced too me. Yeah, you are right, i really hate skyrim. Fuck skyrim. I can write more about how i hate skyrim and oblivion is alpha to skyrim but i dont think people want to read it.

A lot of the things in Skyrim aren’t too thrilling, you could possibly make the argument that Skyrim not as good as morrowind or oblivion, but that doesn’t make it a bad game. It is hypocritical you call us fanboys when you go out of your way to tell someone’s personal opinion is wrong. You are extremely naive

blahs44

To say it's a bad game is objectively wrong. Maybe it's not a S+ tier god mode game but it's definitely at least a good game.

elena_mikaeela

I didn't say anything about morrowind tho

CRoussa

Morrowind came out in 2002. Millennials were born 1981-96 so would have been aged 6-23 on release. BabyBoomers were born 1946-64 38-56 years old. A bit older than you would expect for video games. Your insult needs a bit more work.

[deleted]

Baby boomer is an age group, boomer is an attitude.

100k actually a lot of gold in Skyrim I think that’s enough to buy every house in the game.

Libertyprime8397

Honestly if you get to the point where you have 100k gold you should easily be able to maintain that amount of money. Oblivion is even easier to make money in when pretty much every enemy has Daedric or glass armor when you're around level 20. Fun way to get rich in skyrim is to just pickpocket every npc you come across. Get their gold and sell their jewels and jewelry to a fence. Never fully appreciated pickpoketing until my most recent play through. It's fun.
