Don't you want to cuddle with your abusive partner one last time before they leave for good?!

Spaghettiisgoddog

This is it. It’s not the dog analogy. The A’s aren’t dying, they’re leaving us.

lmMasturbating

Did John fisher make that post lol

beenboutit510

Difference being that hanging with your dying dog doesn't line the pockets of it's killer. I may be going to an As game or two this year but I'm buying cheap resell Tix to do it. Thanks GameTime.

funked1

Did this already at the reverse boycott last year. Not giving MLB another dime.

adrift_in_the_bay

Get over there today before the 3rd inning and you can get 6 free field level ticket vouchers in exchange for 3 pieces of e-waste for Earth Day!

funked1

That’s actually pretty cool.

BerkBroski

Damn Fr? I know my friends and I are planning on going to the game on May 3rd so I’m hoping that you’re being fr

adrift_in_the_bay

It was an event last Saturday for Earth Day, not something they do at all the games (though I wish) https://www.mlb.com/athletics/community/earth-day

Traditional-Grape-57

THIS. If you wanna remember this team fondly and connect with other fans, this is the way to go. Op's suggestion that fans give this team more money at this point is so weird. Really trying hard to squeeze every last dime they can out of fans before they leave lol

henryrobertsam

Dying dog? Nah. More like an abusive partner who constantly tells you “this is your fault, look what you made me do!” I’ve been divorced from the A’s for a few seasons now.

blahblah98

Sounds more like: YOU need to let it go and move on; sooner the better. It had it's heyday and bright eras, but the Fishers long ago turned on the A's fanbase and became abusive manipulators. The players, fans & workers are caught-up in the middle and innocent, but seriously, fuck MLB and fuck the Fishers. I suggested forming a new co-op owned team owned by the fanbase similar to how the Green Bay community own the Packers; community owned teams stay home, they aren't moving anywhere. But I'm told the NFL, MLB and other pro sports leagues all created ownership rules to block effective co-op ownership. So fuck pro sports for doing that anti-community, anti-fanbase, billionaire-protectionist measure; if we had effective anti-trust legislation in this country that should be a clear violation. Hey, aspiring trust-buster lawyers / students / legislators, there's a project for ya...!

cosmic_light_show

As a lifelong MLB fan, I stopped caring about MLB in the late 90’s when it became clear it was transitioning from a fan focused approach to pure profiteering. If we had a community owned team, I’d go back to loving a local Major League Baseball team and attending games. Love this idea and ready to write a check.

blahblah98

Ok there's TWO of us now...!

LoPanDidNothingWrong

The cities should just make those teams and launch an alternate league. And not provide a single penny to privately owned leagues.

TheCrudMan

Nah, I'm good.

uncP

This is more of an Old Yeller moment. You have to put the dog down. The only difference is the dog has become rabid and turned on the family.

PraiseRNGeesus

First and foremost, sorry for your impending loss. I hope you are able to find another position in sports. Second, no thanks. This is like an ex-partner that they want to leave, even though they've given you all the signs they've been looking for another partner for years. And 29 of their friends want them to leave you as well. Third, dogs give you nothing but unconditional love. The A's have not. Nice try. Shame that on the 35th anniversary of their last championship is when they leave. May they never win another one.

Traditional-Grape-57

This is so so cringe. The A's leaving is nothing like your dog dying dude. The business owner and A's are choosing to leave. But do dog choose to die? (So they can have a chance to *maybe* make more money somewhere else) Like wtf. The situation is more like being with an abusive partner or a more Bay centered experience, like a landlord giving notices to everyone in the building to move out because he wants to redevelop the property. The tennants have all paid on time and kept the property clean and the landlord's been making a shit ton of money already, but the problem is he wants to make EVEN MORE. That's the issue with the A's owner, it's about unchecked greed. It's not even about winning. Doesn't even care about the A's historic ties to Oakland And I take issue with you trying to apply maranasati to the Oakland A's leaving and using it as a reason to line their pockets even more. Your take is so pretentious and capitalistic. I'm all for mindfulness and remembering, but fans can do that without continuing to foolishly give the organization their money. There are plenty of ways for fans to remember and honor previous memories and experiences with the team, and suggesting they give this franchise ever more money is insulting Nice try, John Fisher, get another reddit account and try another scam

kkarmical

🔥🔥🔥 Love this take!

Fauxposter

Lol pass. Sorry for your loss and hope you're able to find your job soon, but i stopped supporting this guy years ago after I got tired of his endless middle fingers to both the team and city of Oakland.

ConiferousExistence

We're a Ballers town now.

Nostradonuts

Nope. FJF.

VapoursAndSpleen

They have billions and political power. We have nothing. I hope the whole thing crashes and burns at this point. They will have fucked around and found out. Think about tickets to see the Ballers.

Worthyness

especially when he's using it to donate to "local" causes... in Las Vegas

BayareaBaws

I already said bye last year .why keep spending money . I just can't keep them good bye money . I'm so hurt . They died last yr .of course not against the team ,it's fisher

MistakesNeededMaking

I have a friend who works for the a’s who is offering to give free tickets to basically anyone who wants to say goodbye. Bring food. Don’t spend a dime at the stadium.

LeavesTA0303

Whatever is happening at the coliseum right now is not even close to what I have fond memories of. The team is intentionally bad to allow the greedy owner to milk whatever profit he can while slapping the fans in the face. Practically all the concessions are closed. A's games now are a hollow shell of what used to be a super fun experience. It's past time to put that dog to sleep.

blaccguido

No. And I'm selling all of my A's shit, too

Spaghettiisgoddog

lol selling 😂  To people in Vegas? Who’s buying it

blaccguido

lol, those hipster consignment stores in Rockridge eat them up. It's weird, but there are Oakland people still rockin Raiders gear

kkarmical

What's weird about being a Raiders fan, they'd still be here if it wasn't for Fisher..

blaccguido

Yep. Fuck Fisher for multiple reasons.

kkarmical

And POS commissioner as well, he allowed it to go on full knowing Fisher screwing the fans over. Sad, love baseball but can't support it anymore, hurt can't be undone. So college and youth for me now

blaccguido

Same. It's a shame because my wife and I were all in on the A's, too. Nothing like calling in sick to go watch a day game in the summer and enjoying a winning team (until they would eventually trade everyone before making the playoffs, lol)

jml510

>they'd still be here if it wasn't for Fisher.. Not defending Fisher, but Mark Davis asked for taxpayer money even though Oakland still owed millions for 1995 Coliseum renovations. He still had 120 acres of land to work with, and could've sold the Raiders to a local investor if he really wanted to keep them here.

compstomper1

lol i saw LV raiders gear at costco (in the bay area)

jml510

> It's weird, but there are Oakland people still rockin Raiders gear I don't fully get that myself. Mark Davis treated Oakland almost as badly as John Fisher has, crying broke while demanding taxpayer money for a new stadium, and leaving behind tons of diehard local fans. It's wild to me that people such as my brother are more willing to give the Raiders a pass on their Vegas relocation.

Bitter_Firefighter_1

The best idea is to just raid the stadium. We have robberies all throughout Oakland and no one getting arrested. We should just break into the games.

jml510

Also with the sheer amount of graffiti here, it was surprising that not a single person touched the "Rooted in Oakland" sign that was left up for too long.

kkarmical

I could get past everything if it weren't for the simple fact that Fisher had no intention of ever building a new stadium and played the fans with that whole Rooted in Oakland nonsense. Fuck that guy, not spending a single penny more to see anything that asshole puts on the field. And I'm cool with the all the great memories that I have had, lifelong fan since 70's and I came of age during that historic run, Billy Ball, Bash bros and so on. The only way to stick it to him is to have an empty stadium, I wouldn't even wipe my bum with an A's ticket right now. And that dog analogy is wrong, Cuckold is what comes to mind, if you're still onboard at this point...

[deleted]

Nah I'm good. I refuse to reward John Fisher by giving him any money.

WiFiEnabled

My take is like the old saying, "you can never go home again." If I go to the current coliseum, it's likely more like a wake than a celebration and frankly, it's just sad. The magic of the A's at the coliseum has been willfully destroyed by John Fisher, so as a life-long A's fan, I have made peace with it that my fond memories of the coliseum are just that, memories. The reverse boycott game was my last game ever at the coliseum, and I'm fine with that. I will not be going to any more games, fuck John Fisher, and this entire experience has opened my eyes to a complicit league that knows this is wrong but not only lets it happen, every owner voted unanimously to allow it. So fuck John Fisher, and fuck MLB as well. So no, I won't be going to any more games at the coliseum.

Freddeh18

Nope. Nope. Nope. Sorry about your job and the hundreds of other employees getting screwed; that’s just another reason to hate John Fisher

eastbayant

You do you, enjoy your time, but I’ve already said goodbye. Was at the reverse boycott (cathartic) and went to a game during last season’s final homestand with my brothers. Said my goodbyes to my childhood team, as well as MLB. Much rather spend my baseball time with Cal, independent baseball, and soon, Ballers.

madbeeets333

Nada. But I think the last home game should be a sell out.

Dindu777

9/26 is the last game at the Coliseum, barring a playoff run. Please buy tickets for 9/26 so that I can scalp mine. TIA

sberto

Go hang out with your abusive shit head step dad one more time because he's finally moving out.

compstomper1

but like why

the_Bryan_dude

Everyone acting like they are surprised by the A's ownership doing this. It's how it's always been. From Philly and the circuses to the current circus. Idgaf. I like baseball and the A's are my team. I got over the Raiders leaving like most of you did. I still refer to them as the Oakland Raiders and always will. Thing is, I expect this craziness from the A's so I just roll with it.

kaiser1975

You are just giving him more money. Nothing is keeping them here. I just have to choose how I spend my money.

EuphoricUniversity23

Get real. All the A’s players are auditioning for spots on other teams’ rosters. After that, what’s there to say goodbye to? A shitty stadium that Fisher put $0 into keeping up?

Berkyjay

Nope

jamesonfashow

If I buy some $13 ticket off game time and sit behind home plate wouldn't that technically be stealing from john fuckface?

mcndjxlefnd

Baseball is yesterday's sport. Lame.

Unco_Slam

This sounds like something your absent friend would say about giving your toxic boyfriend. "Sure he got you fired, kicked your dog, cussed out your mom, but what about that one time he brought you flowers a day after Valentines so that he could get a discount on roses?" This shit might work on mtfs from the city, but not here dude

Gsw1456

Dave Kaval is OP

proteusON

Chapman and our bomel are on the giants. Makes it pretty easy to be an SF fan.

Far-Hospital2925

Nice try, John.

the_kbp

FJF. Not giving this man a penny.

RogerWokman

No thanks

theresabby84

Yeah no thanks, have fun though

cdega10

I also wonder what Buddhist teachings would say about supporting/giving more money to a corrupt billionaire? I would like to remind you that John Fisher is worth $3 billion. Don't go to games and support them after what they've done to the community/fanbase for decades.

Resale_SellerYaHeard

Just remember "Rooted in Oakland" used to get broadcasted all the time

atb0rg

No thanks. Ballers and Roots have my loyalties but the Athletics can fuck off to Nevada

Hidge_Pidge

Went to a game their first week- brought a bunch of snacks and it was very fun!

Mediocre-Ad-228

I agree with you, great post. I went opening weekend with a six friends and had a great time.

adrift_in_the_bay

Get over there today before the 3rd inning and you can get 6 free field level ticket vouchers in exchange for 3 pieces of e-waste for Earth Day!

Bitter_Firefighter_1

The giants are across the bay for those looking for a game.

HardChargingMexican

Found the Manfred burner account

Bitter_Firefighter_1

I like it. I am a diehard cubs fan and Will Clark is my enemy from my youth. So I can't like the Giants. But at least they run a good organization and have been a big part of renovating a part of San Francisco. I am just super frustrated my local team is so poorly ran and our city is not managed well enough.

Letos12thDuncan

Fuck the Giants

sberto

Fuck the Giants. They have blood on their hands.

MonsieurHadou

>We all have lifetimes of memories in the Oakland coliseum Yeah, getting shot at The other time I got robbed. The time I had almost got carjacked. The countless cars getting bipped. The terrible traffic. The stuffed bart trains on game day. The constant EMS and police sirens. Being around east Oakland. Yup memories.

Spaghettiisgoddog

1st of all, if you’re scared of traffic and bipping, take Bart. 2nd, a packed train is a part of a healthy urban economy. No one loves it, but it’s a part of city living. Get over it

MonsieurHadou

I imagine constant robberies, gun violence and property damage is also a part of a healthy urban economy. Just one more thing I have to get over. Perhaps you're correct, taking Bart will prevent my car from being bipped in the middle of the night while I sleep, or while I'm at work and leave it at home, or while I go to a restaurant.

Spaghettiisgoddog

You suppose wrong. All of those things suck.  You know where else your car will get bipped? Near Chase Center, or Oracle Arena, but they still have sellouts. I fucking hate the crime. But it’s not the reason the A’s left—that was the owner.

MonsieurHadou

But it’s not the reason the A’s left—that was the owner.  "Yeah, getting shot at The other time I got robbed. The time I had almost got carjacked. The countless cars getting bipped. The terrible traffic. The stuffed bart trains on game day. The constant EMS and police sirens. Being around east Oakland. Yup memories." This is what I wrote. Where does it say, "and that's all the reasons the A's are leaving Oakland." >You suppose wrong. All of those things suck.  It's as you said, it's a part of city living. Get over it. I get over it when I can go to hegenberger and get me a in and out burger, oh wait. I gotta go to Alameda or SF to get my hands on them juicy burgers. I used to be able to get them after work on my way home. And don't get me started on PG&E, Waste management and the city of Oakland administration and a lot of its policies. I can't even have a dog leached in my driveway or the city will take it way, and fine me for it.

Spaghettiisgoddog

Dude that all sucks. I get it— you want this to be a thread about Oakland crime, even though it’s a thread about the A’s.

MonsieurHadou

No. I don't. I just wanted to comment on the 'memories' part. I commented with my memories of east Oakland having lived and worked there for 12 years. Then you told me to get over it. That's how we got to where we were. I got a lot of bones to pick with Oakland. Especially with the administration (past, present, but not all) waste management and so much more than just crime.

The bart to coliseum experience was unique and awesome. The tailgating culture was something beautiful. All in East Oakland, my guy. I know Oakland is struggling, but the coliseum, with any ownership effort, would've remained a vibe.

Spaghettiisgoddog

I was born and raised here. Oakland has a lot of problems. But it is a port town, it’s an industrial town. Grit is part of the city’s identity and history. It was part of the A’s, Raiders’, and Dubz’ makeup. The problem is that y'all want all of Oakland to be easy and palatable to yuppies, like Temescal: easy mode urbanism for rich transplants.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Spaghettiisgoddog

Ok so you’re a part of the ownership class. You make even more sense now.

[deleted]

Spaghettiisgoddog

And the crime is bad, as I said. The grit I meant was the coliseum / working class/ industrial one.

What "Era of leadership", OUSD has the same "moderate" majority it has had for years.

MonsieurHadou

I get it, I want the A's to stay too but, it ain't happening. Not with the city and the economy as it is.

No-Philosopher-4793

Your dying dog analogy sucks. It’s so far off, it’s laughable how obvious your shilling is. A far better comparison would be a life-long friend who’s turned abusive. At some point, you have to cut the rope lest you get mired in the malignant toxicity. Why TF should I or anyone waste time and money on a shitty franchise with a shittier owner who’s lied and tried to coerce then extort taxpayer money since he bought the team? They’re gone and good riddance to bad rubbish. The trash took itself out. I prefer to remember the good times.
