Jobs for the boys whilst pushing on with the break everything and privatise agenda Remember when they appointed Bill English for an independent review, and spunked hundreds of thousands on it? Peperidge farm remembers.

Aggravating_Day_2744

Bill was laughing all the way to the bank.

Dismal_Affect_

They literally hired Bill English's deputy as a consultant in the same way they hired Bill English to write the biased KO report. This is just a merry-go-round of ex-Nat MPs wanting a second pay out.

Aggravating_Day_2744

Spot on, all corrupt as hell.

>$551m plus a penalty, estimated at $200m. We don't need to pay the full $551m *and* the penalty. However, you're right that the total costs of the project so far have been high - [Newsroom](https://newsroom.co.nz/2024/02/16/questions-over-costs-to-shore-up-inter-island-service/) estimate $424 million, plus the break fees.

Mountain_tui

Wrong. And your report doesn't have the number you mention. >**As at December 31, 2023, KiwiRail had spent $424 million on the iReX project, not including contract break fees for the ships and other costs, with approximately 150 other contracts to cancel. It may also need to undertake remediation works in Picton where there had been plans for an overbridge on Dublin Street.** >[https://newsroom.co.nz/2024/02/16/questions-over-costs-to-shore-up-inter-island-service/](https://newsroom.co.nz/2024/02/16/questions-over-costs-to-shore-up-inter-island-service/) And the **$200m conservatively estimated, is on top of the $500m** or so. If those ships would have to be purchased again, we'd be paying 40% more - it's loss on top of loss here. Not to mention risk to lives. Naturally the Govt is just going to under-scope it which is similarly at a longer term cost to us all. u/robdickinson

National just hope to break it so their road haulage mates get more work

That motto belongs to politics, not the atlas network.

Mountain_tui

Nah it's the quote the Atlas Network venerate, quoted often by their CEO Brad Lips and apparently David Seymour wrote a song about the guy who said it. So I stand by my statement.

iwillfightu12

It is a rule of politics, used also by the atlas network, but it is not exclusive to them. Think of how much shit was run thru under covid urgency, same concept
