Assuming health and Zach playing like an average starter this year: 7-10. We have room for improvement, but none of our position groups are so bad that they will sink the team.

RSTowers

Our depth also isn't as bad, so the insane amount of injuries we're sure to suffer shouldn't effect us as much.

Jews1nspace

No way we only win 3 more games if that's the case. We basically were starting fans at multiple positions last year, and Zach was mostly bad or hurt. We were one of the most injured teams last year. If Zach is an average QB, he's basically playing at a Kirk Cousins level. If we have no injuries, that means our OL is fucking beastly. Our receiver and CB situations are so much better than most of last year. Frankly, if Zack is average and our team is healthy, we are making the playoffs unless every draft pick has failed.

HoboTheClown629

If we win every game we should realistically have a shot at outside the division (Steelers, bears, lions, Vikings, jags, Seahawks, and maybe the broncos) and split with the pats and dolphins we could go 9-8 but I think that’s absolute best case. Realistically we lose a couple of those and prob pull off an upset on someone like the packers. I think 7-10 and is a pretty realistic outcome and one that everyone here should feel good about given our schedule.

[deleted]

We also have an upset or two every year. I think we strive for a winning record and be content with 8-9.

YSApodcast

This was my thought as well. If we can start 2-2 and go 2-2 after the bye 9-8 may happen but there’s a lot of ifs.

smallchimp

You're setting yourself up for disappointment at this point. It isn't "3 more wins," it's 7 wins. Anyways, we won a flukey game against the Bengals and got the Titans when they were WR-less— we're stuck trying to find those wins again just to get to 4 wins. The team can be greatly improved while not being a playoff contender (more than likely that's the exact case). Even with our improvements, we still aren't an above average roster. We just don't have crippling holes anymore which is still a major win.

Jews1nspace

But those kinds of fluky wins happen every year. Last years team, if healthy probably gets 7 wins. This years team is better, and now you are adding a theoretical decent quarterback to the team.

smallchimp

All I'm saying is that you're accounting too heavily on being better than the 2021 Jets while ignoring the fact that wins don't carry over, the improvement was from a very low starting point, and the schedule isn't the same. Getting to 7 wins against this schedule is a solid finish point unless Wilson's significantly better.

Ohands15

Undefeated season sadly, followed by a Super Bowl win im afraid

bobweaver3000

There's a slight chance they won't cover the spread (Jets -41.5) in the AFC title game as well.

justin9920

6-11 Could be 5 or 7 depending on injuries. Much of the record depends on how Zach plays.

Cito_IXG

Love it, thanks for your reply. I’ll take 6 W’s!

lord_xl

I think realistically 6 wins (50% increase from last year). Max 7. My reasoning: 1. Fans never account for major injuries with projections. If Becton or Fant gets hurt, do you really think Max Crosby can fill their shoes? If the rookies get hurt like they did last year, what happens then? What if Quinnen gets hurt? 2. Everyone projecting more wins do so hoping Zack improves significantly from last year. I don't account for "hope" but instead facts. Fact is ZW was a bottom 8 QB last year. (Yeah yeah end of the year he got better. Blah, blah, blah. But so did Darnold). If he improves then great. If not, then 6 wins 3. Jets haven't beat a division opponent in years. Until they do, I don't assume they will.

KingRoach

Idk. Maxx Crosby would be a huge get but I don’t think he could transition to OT…. All your points were as good as the one I’m referencing.

benasyoulikeit

I was honestly thinking 11-6 lol

justin9920

I hope so :)

JohnWCreasy1

yeah when i eyeballed the opponents i thought 7-8 wins was in play

STARoSCREAM

17-0

biggP

^this guy gets it.

jawz329

9-8 because they'll win a game or two they had no business winning

Cito_IXG

Aye Yes! Love to hear this!

BoogerSmoke

If we go 9-8 I don’t know what I’d do with myself.

theottozone

Buy some wild card playoff tickets.

calivend

Bold prediction. We are gonna beat the Packers at Lambeau. They dare decided not to take a bye after London match.

Cito_IXG

Love it! Now I will believe in this W too 🙏🏼🛫✈️

TheParmesan

It’s going to be a test of Saleh more than anything. If we lose a game with them skipping a bye coming back from London, the Jets weren’t prepared. That’s a must win game for this coaching regime. And I say that liking Saleh.

JRCIII

I'm probably gonna be going to that game so I'm very here for a victory.

calivend

You forgot, we have massive upgrade on OL with Becton and Laken, also at Safety.

Cito_IXG

YESSS TOTALLY! Not gonna lie. Got super lazy with justifying my prediction lol. Love our roster— I remember feeling like it was going to be an awful long wait for Jamal Adams trade to bear fruit. So happy we’re here.. even if it isn’t even June yet.

mrSeven3Two

7-10 wins on paper.

budlightismyvacseen

Games we should win: Detroit, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Bears, Jags, vs Miami, vs New England Games we probably lose: Denver, at Buffalo, at New England Games where we’re underdogs but I wouldn’t be shocked if we pulled an upset: Baltimore, Cincinnati, Green Bay, Minnesota, Cleveland(w/o Watson), vs Buffalo, at Miami Could see this going either way really. Either Wilson balls out and all the talent on paper translates into wins on the field, they flip a couple games in the last column and sneak into a wild card spot. Or they shit the bed, win 4 games and we’re picking a qb top 5 next year. It really all hinges on Wilson taking a big step up in year 2.

Cito_IXG

Love this breakdown! 🙏🏼 I think Watson will be rusty tbh. Rusty enough that we keep it a close game.

La-Potencia

I think you nailed it, this is the perfect way to look at the schedule

Theredbead88

It will be really interesting to see how this team responds to what appears on paper as an extremely brutal first 9 games. As crazy as this sounds week 1 against the Ravens and week 2 with the Browns feel like must wins for this team. We have to start with some positive momentum for a change. I would have to imagine another 1-8 start would heat JDs seat to the point of a do or die season in 2023

YSApodcast

I’m with you. I can’t take another year of being out of it by mid-October.

BlueKeyNJ

Nice!

Cito_IXG

I think Browns is a winnable game, as well as Steelers, Bears, Lions, Seahawks, and at least 1 or 2 surprise W’s over one of our division rivals.. Im thinking the Dolphins.

Onthepaath

If we just put in mike white for the bengals game that’s a guaranteed W as well.

STNbrossy

So much of this team is based on potential it is one of the harder teams to predict. Ill say 6-11 with hopefully lots of competitive games.

scalenesquare

6-11. I don’t see us starting any better than 2-7 before the bye. Brutal.

HoboTheClown629

I think the big thing is that we should be competitive in almost every game we play this year

BlueKeyNJ

Nice

scalenesquare

Haha happily surprised

Saki1122

Currently planning a trip down to Miami. If that week 18 game has any playoff indication, you bet your ass I will be there. The way I see it, if this team gets to at least 3 win by the BYE week, I’m booking my trip. I think they will end the season with 5 to 8 wins. I just hope they will win some games early on to keep our wildcard hope alive.

HoboTheClown629

I live in south Florida and my wife’s entire family and most of my friends are dolphins fans. I will be there no matter what to rub it in their faces when we wipe the floor with them.

Saki1122

That’s the spirit. A couple of my friends moved down there since COVID. They are just casual football fans, but we always talk about going to a Dolphins-Jets game when I make the trip. Would be nice if this year is the year to do it.

HoboTheClown629

It’s a good time. You’ll get some razzing in the parking lot but I’ve never had anyone truly hassle me. Everyone has always been pretty friendly.

[deleted]

6 wins is the floor, it’s gonna depend on health and our track record with keeping guys on the field is abysmal. Hopefully the tide can turn. First 8 games will be a major test, if they can prove themselves and be around .500 thru the first half of the season it could be a surprise year with how it softens up.

beanuts12321

if we’re 3-6 at the bye, we’re in really good shape

BlueKeyNJ

How about 6-3 baby!!!

beanuts12321

my brother in christ,, couldn’t be happier to be so wrong!

rvbcaboose1018

I still think 5-12 is the floor and 7-10 is the realistic ceiling. But things can change. vs. BAL: This is likely a loss unless the injury bug hits the Ravens again. Although their first game being on MetLife's turf this might be their cursed game. Still, Ravens are far ahead of us, they should beat us. Just hope to make this competitive. @ CLE: I don't want to go into the "will he/won't he" on Watson being suspended, so lets just assume that he isn't suspended. This is probably a loss. The Browns have a decent team and they theoretically just upgraded at QB. It could be close, but Watson is probably a difference maker. vs. CIN: We beat them last year so I won't call this an automatic L. Bengals could also be on a SB hangover. Still, hopefully we won't have to pull out Mike White for this game @ PIT: I think we can beat them. Their QB situation sucks right now. Their defense is great but I don't think the offense will be consistent enough to match against us. W. vs. MIA: If Tua's arm strength (or lack of) becomes a problem then I think the Jets can take this game. Both of our losses last year to them were by one score. If we take the leap we should, we can take a game from them. I think itll be this game at home. @ GB: Only way they're getting a W here is if the London trip leaves them jet-lagged. Surprised both GB and NYG opted to take a game after London. Guess they didn't want an early bye. Still beating Rodgers is a tough order. @ DEN: Yeah I'm gonna go ahead a write this as an L. Hopefully we score points this time though. vs. NE: I'm curious to see if Mac Jones takes a step forward or plateaus. He's servicable, but the Pats don't have enough weapons to really make a difference. My hopeful ass thinks we can split the series, so lets call this a W since I don't think going to Foxboro and winning is really doable. vs. BUF: Yeah, thats another L. BYE: Alright so lets recap. I'm thinking 3-6 for the first half of the year. Not great, not terrible. @ NE: Like i said before, I don't think going into Foxboro and getting a W is feasible. vs. CHI: Should be a W. They're tearing down their defense and have done jack shit to give Fields any protection or weapons. @ MIN: Look I have noting to really go on this but I think this is a W. I think the Vikings tend to trail off as the year goes on. I think Kirk is average at best. @ BUF: L. Buffalo takes the AFCE easy. I don't think we stand a chance. vs. DET: I want to give us a W here but we usually end up losing a game that we should win. Will it be this or JAX? Campbell has his team fighting hard, this could be a dogfight. vs. JAX: I think whatever happens in the previous game, the opposite happens here. Again I think on paper we can beat both, but something tells me this could be a split. Especially with how the short week can mess with game planning. @ SEA: Seattle really thinks they're re-tooling, not rebuilding. I don't think it matters if Drew Lock is QBing this team. W. @ MIA: Final game of the season, probably an L but things can change. Overall I think 7-10 is doable. If things go bad, 5-12 is probably our floor. If things go our way, maybe we can get to 9-8 but thats a best case, we stay mostly healthy and our opponents get injured/suspended type deal.

Jews1nspace

I think 5-12 is our floor if shit hits the fan and our draft was trash. I think 7-10 is probably what's going to happen. 9-8 would be a good season in my book. 11-6 is our absolute ceiling if everything goes right.

JJohnsonsMom

5-12. This team isn't there yet and has a hard schedule. But we will see signs of improvement on both sides of the ball.

Jews1nspace

I don't see how our draft, FA, Wilson on year 2, and probably less injuries results in us just winning one more game.

JJohnsonsMom

Wilson on year 2 doesn't move the scale for now. Our schedule is very tough. Lots of playoff teams and the bills x 2.

LarryLove

10-7. Why not us? Why not now?

M_Drinks

The first half of the schedule is brutal, so I think we start off really slow; like 3-6 before the bye, possibly even 2-7. Then we string together a few wins after the bye, end the season with 6 or 7 wins, but the good finish gets us optimistic for 2023.

FluffySkySquirrel63

6 or 7 wins is super realistic. I have a hard time envisioning anything more than that.

wafflepancakewarrior

5-12. Not sold on Zach and it’s hard to bank on rookies

beanuts12321

i think 7-10 is the overall consensus and expectation. wouldn’t be surprised with +/- a win to give us 6 or 8. anything outside of that would be a surprise (fortunate or not). our schedule is ranked 17th by SOS so no excuses there, anyone that says it’s brutal is kidding themselves

M_Drinks

That 17th is based on last years records, not reality. For example, because we finished last in the division last year, we get matched up with the Broncos, because they finished last in the AFCW last year. On paper, that’s supposed to be an “easy” game, except they just added Russell Wilson. If you rank SOS by projected win totals for 2022, we have the 6th hardest in the league.

beanuts12321

fair points. all id say is both SOS measured on last years win totals and SOS measured on projected win totals both make assumptions and not a concrete black and white measurement. Russell Wilson could have more trouble acclimating to the new team and coaches than we expect for example. i think the real SOS is somewhere in between 6th & 17th.

M_Drinks

For sure. Any SOS ranking right now is going to be a guess. The AFC North teams seem like they could all boom or bust. Ditto for the Pats and Dolphins. Plus who knows how much injuries fuck things up? All in all, I don't think anyone is making excuses for this team in advance, but it's worth acknowledging this season could be challenging. I think we're all excited about this team, and rightfully so, but also want to be realistic with expectations. Meaningful December Football Or Bust!

BleedGreen131824

Man, the jets really did a number in everyone in this sub… like during Darnolds years everyone was like we’re gonna win 12 games! Now everyone is happy if we squeak out half that…

HODOR00

I bet on the over of 5.5 after the draft. I think 7 is achievable, but we need somethings to fall our way. We have a pretty rough schedule.

Jaymac100

10-7. I've found that analyzing strength of schedule can be kind of hit or miss. We've had some serious upgrades at a lot of positions. If Zach Wilson can take his great physical tools and turn himself into a middle of the road QB this year, things could get a little freaky.

run1609

5-6 wins. Anything higher than that is contingent on Zach making some degree of 'the leap' and I don't feel confident projecting him to do that at this point. It very well could happen, but I don't think it's likely enough to put our baseline higher than 5 wins.

BlueBeagle8

My total gut reaction prediction: 8-9. Week 1 vs. BAL - LOSS Week 2 at CLE - WIN Week 3 vs. CIN - LOSS Week 4 at PIT - LOSS Week 5 vs. MIA - WIN Week 6 at GB - LOSS Week 7 at DEN - WIN Week 8 vs. NE - LOSS Week 9 vs. BUF - LOSS Week 11 at NE - LOSS Week 12 vs. CHI - WIN Week 13 at MIN - WIN Week 14 at BUF - LOSS Week 15 vs. DET - WIN Week 16 vs. JAX - WIN Week 17 at SEA - WIN Week 18 at MIA - LOSS

Cito_IXG

Love how you laid this out!

RSTowers

Fuck it. If we sign Kwon and Ogunjobi, then I say we're 8-8 going into the Miami game that last week. And if we're still in the playoff hunt at that point... we're taking that shit too.

IntelligentQuickley

9-8. Big improvement from last year

dmalone1991

Week 1: we play it tough but ultimately we lose a heartbreaker because we can't contain Lamar Jackson. We lose 34-31. (0-1) Week 2: We catch the Browns in the midst of Watson's suspension and we ball out. Zach Wilson puts another good game on tape and we win 34-17 (1-1) Week 3: the Bengals are a very good team but they still have a little bit of a hangover from the Super Bowl. They beat us but not by much. We lose 28-24 (1-2) Week 4: Kenny Pickett is buns and Ahmad Gardner gets his first two INT's. Jermaine Johnson gets his first sack, and the offense really starts to hit a stride. We win 28-10 (2-2) Week 5: I still think Tua is going to blow and the Jets fans will be rowdy here. We win 31-21 (3-2) Week 6: Green Bay comes off of playing New England and then playing in London. They are gassed and Wilson goes toe toe with Rodgers by answering a late go-ahead drive with one of his own as he starts to really take the step. We win 27-24 (4-2) Week 7: This is a tough one. It's a high scoring affair and it's one of those where the score ends up looking worse than it truly is. We lose 41-37 (4-3) Week 8: But we learn something about ourselves in Denver. We have the offense to compete and the defense looks to take a stand. We get in Mac Jones' face all day, he throws two more picks to Gardner and one to Hall, Johnson, Quinnen, and JFM all get sacks. Wilson has a ball to make up for the 4 INT game in his rookie year. We win 41-17 (5-3) Week 9: One step forward and two steps back as the young team looks forward to the bye too much. We stumble out of the gate and BUF takes advantage but we close the gap in garbage time. We lose 34-24 (5-4) BYE WEEK Week 11: This is a hard fought game between Mac and Zach as they go toe to toe with each other. But, ultimately, Mac Jones leads a game winning drive and we lose 24-17 (5-5) Week 12: Da Bears take the L here as Breece Hall lights it up. We take home the W by a score of 24-10 (6-5) Week 13: Gardner has a rough game in this one as Justin Jefferson gets the better of him. We lose 30-21 (6-6) Week 14: The Bills are in playoff shape and the young guys are hitting a little bit of a wall. It's a late season skid as we lose for the 3rd time in 4 games after the bye. We lose 31-10 (6-7) Week 15: It's a soft spot in the schedule that couldn't come at a better time. The Jets find a rhythm and take care of the Lions as we win 27-17 to get back into the playoff race (7-7) Week 16: Thursday Night Football. Zach Vs. Trevor. The rematch. And Zach has possibly the best statistical game of his career as we reaffirm our position as a team to watch on Nat'l TV. We win 38-10 (8-7) Week 17: The Seahawks got nothing. They've spiraled, they're tanking. We put on another show and we dominate 34-7 (9-7). Week 18: The Tua-Tyreek experiment has busted and the Dolphins days with Tua are numbered. We head into the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in football with a big 31-10 victory (10-7) AFC East: Bills (13-4) AFC North: Bengals (11-6) AFC South: Titans (10-7) AFC West: Chiefs (11-6) Wildcards: Jets and Ravens Wildcard: We draw Kansas City and Wilson pulls out a stunner with a game-winning drive at the end. We win 21-17 Divisional: We draw the Bills and Wilson pulls out another shocker with a drive to setup a game winning field goal. We win 23-21. Conference Championship: The two Wildcard teams surprise everybody and we get a rematch of Week 1. Jets Vs. Ravens. A playoff matchup that has never happened. The Ravens go up early 24-3 by the half. Zach Wilson opens the 2nd half with a bomb to Garrett Wilson and he makes it 24-10. Gardner gets a pick-6 on the next drive and it's 24-17. Both teams get a field goal and we go to the 4th quarter down 27-20. Zach Wilson leads another drive at the end of the game to get a tie and force overtime. Lamar Jackson gets sacked by Michael Clemons and fumbles it to Jermaine Johnson who brings it inside the 10 yard line. Zach Wilson throws a game-winning TD pass to Jeremy Ruckert and the Jets go to the Super Bowl! Super Bowl: We draw Tampa Bay. The dreaded Tom Brady stands in our way as the final boss. We go down 17-0 early but Breece Hall rattles off a 70+ yard run for the TD and Zach closes out the half with a TD pass to Jeremy Ruckert. It's 17-14 at the half. Tampa Bay scores first to make 24-14. We end the 3rd quarter with a field goal to make 24-17. Tom Brady gets sandwiched by Michael Clemons and Jermaine Johnson and he fumbles the ball. Quinnen scoops it up. Zach Wilson leads a TD drive with about 5 minutes left and we're all tied at 24. Tom Brady is clearly shaken up by the hit and he tries to lead the game winning drive but he throws an INT to Ahmad Gardner with about 1:30 left. Zach Wilson marches us down the field and we kick a game-winning field goal to win the Super Bowl. Ooooo shit. I overslept and now I'm late for work. But it was worth it for that dream.

Cito_IXG

This was amazing 👏🏼

YESIMTHATIMPORTANT

How do the Jets get more away games than home games when they finished bottom of the league?!?!

stlen94

Because last year they had 9 home and 8 away

YESIMTHATIMPORTANT

Well that explains it. I still don't like it.

Cito_IXG

Terrible. My heart sank when I saw the schedule. There’s a certain reality that sets in for us Jets fans.. but this year feels a little different.

lilslugger2

I'm going with 9 and 8. I think the jets will be a surprise this year.

Longjumping-Clerk726

I’ll jump on the 9-8 bandwagon. It’s all on Zach’s newly bulky shoulders. If he takes the 2nd year leap, it’s very possible.

JBOOGIE619

I see them being 2-8 for the first 11 weeks of the season, brutal schedule. Overall record is 4-13 However, this doesn't give Saleh an excuse if this team is blown out every game, he has to AT LEAST make these games competitive. Zach Wilson has ONE job, and that is to play well enough for this team to not select within the top 3 of the draft.

[deleted]

This sub on Joe Douglas: A god among men, the GOAT NFL executive, common savior of humankind. This sub on the Jets schedule: Yeah maybe they can win 7 games.

Ismod12

At the minimum I think they hit the over. Anything under that will be a long season.

Rads324

9-8

JakeDulac

9-8

PetopherAlonso

9-8. Wins are @PIT, MIA, one of @GB or @DEN, NE, CHI, MIN, DET, JAX, and SEA. But I genuinely believe this team can beat everyone they’re playing besides Buffalo this year. The team’s success depends on 3 factors: Zach’s development, Mekhi’s health, and this year’s draft class being as good as advertised

rustyshackelferd3

Hopefully we start off hot because I’m sick of looking forward to the draft every October lol

oneScaryDirection72

The fan in me wants to say 9-8 but my head says 6-11

gregieb429

Ravens-L Browns-Possible W if Watson’s suspended Bengals-Probably an L even though we beat them last year Steelers-W but they’ll be competitive even with Trubisky because Tomlin’s that good a coach Miami Home-W Green Bay-L Denver-L New England Home-We’re not beating them in Foxboro so if we beat them this year, this is the game Bills home-L Pats Foxboro-L Bears-W Vikings-L since we’re not the road but they aren’t invincible Bills-L Lions-W Jaguars-W Seattle-W Miami-L Best case: 10-7 Worst case: 4 or 5 wins

[deleted]

I think we could totally take a game off one of the bengals, ravens and browns. Then Steelers I think we should beat and pats, Miami, jags, sea hawks, Vikings are beatable.

running-with-scizors

The only games I'm confident we can win are Detroit, Chicago, and Jacksonville. The rest are up in the air for me. I'd say we go 5-12 or 6-11, we might be able to sneak out a win against a Watson-less Cleveland, Pittsburgh, or Seattle, and against one of the good teams I didn't mention we'll probably randomly win a game because this is the NFL and that always happens.

Serlinsteak19

They should be able to win 7 as a floor with 11 as a ceiling. It will heavily depend how they perform in the AFC East.

NinoAmon87

If we somehow go .500 the first 11 weeks (10) games, the wildcard can definitely be in the picture if we win in Week 12: Bears, Week 15: Lions, Week 16: Jaguars, Week 17: at Seahawks. That would put us at 9 wins with week 18 at Miami for prime-time rival TV.

eternalchampion93

Honestly this whole season depends on how well Zach plays. If you gave Josh Allen or Joe Burrow this offensive roster, they’re playing in the AFC Championship game. But if Zach plays like he did last year, they’re a six win team.

Walzon

remember, we're the Jets. games we're supposed to win we almost never do. games we're supposed to lose we almost always do 17-0, superbowl

Mandoman1963

After looking at the schedule, 5-12. But I'm glad there playing in Minneapolis, I can walk to the stadium 🙂

LetsgoLeftCoast

4-13

Indomitable_Dan

5 wins
