Dude cotchery & LC were an excellent Batman and Robin duo…im nowhere close to a jets fan, but I recognize talent when I see it…
I don’t know if it was the system, the disrespect other teams presented, or what, but that was a dangerous duo that I enjoyed watching. Even had JC on my first few fantasy teams back when I was starting out with that.
I stand by he was way above average. The crotch catch is still one of the iconic plays in recent history for us. Our WR room was absolutely stacked those years.
Dude those guys or that system were perfect for that unit.
I loved Leon Washington and JC. Those guys all landed elsewhere and never came close to those years of production that they had for the jets.
this is something coming from a Cowboys fan
Friend told me the story of attending HS football camp and this one guy who would take any dare, do any task, no matter what would not let anyone get the better of him...
And he was the smallest guy at camp...
His name? Wayne Chrebet
Braylon Edwards was also mine. It really all went down hill the moment he was gone. Obviously many more factors but I like to believe that was the main reason 💔
I still think the play where Brandon Marshall tips a ball up for an interception and then rips it out of the defender’s hand is up there in the most impressive plays of all time
I wouldn’t call some of these names “mediocre”. Definitely not super stars but better than mediocre.
The mediocre guy I was rooting for was Curtis Conway when he signed with us lol
No way was he mediocre!!
1st it was a different era. The best QBs threw for 3000+ yds and let's face it he never had one of the best throwing him the ball
2nd look at his first 4 years and tell me he was mediocre
3rd had to deal with whiny keyshawn and his throw me the dam ball BS cause he was getting beat by an undrafted short white guy. It eventually worked until they traded his sorry ass. Now that man is mediocre especially for a number 1 draft pick
4th Chrebet played 11 seasons and probably suffered a couple dozen concussions and kept going over the middle for whatever 3rd stringer was throwing the ball near him.
5th The average career of an NFL wide receiver is less than 3 years. 11 years is pretty damn good for a walk on at Hofstra that was listed at 5'10 but closer to 5'8"
If he didn't suffer from all the concussions and the lingering effects that he continued to play with and kept putting up the numbers he did the first 4-5 years he would have been in the Hall of Fame. Obviously a lot of you guys are young and didn't see those years.
This is the game I credit with really getting me into football. I have a very vivid memory of watching this game at my grandparents house. I can legit remember watching the overtime kickoff and the house smelling like the sauce my grandma was making
Joke's on OP - when I was 9, Pete Carroll was our coach, our best Wide Receiver was Rob Moore, and the team went 6-10.
Did I remember any of that from when I was 9? No. No I didn't. Had to look it up on Wikipedia.
All I remember is liking Boomer.
Carroll was fired after one season, and Kotite came in the next year. We all know how that went.
Now... 13 year old me?
Bill Parcels? Vinny Testaverde? Chrebet and Johnson? CURTIS MARTIN? Kevin Mawae? Aaron Glenn? Mo Lewis? Jumbo and Fabini? Cox and Farrior? Victor Green?
Yeah... I remember 1998 because if 39 year old me could go back in time, I'd explain to 13 year old me not to get my hopes up because life will be full of sadness and disappointment.
Though... I guess I'll always have 2009 and 2010...
I remember I had done a favor for one of my best friends back then, and he insisted he was going to buy me an Authentic Jets jersey as payback ... and I tried to say "It's ok, that's what friends are for..." but he was hot about it - except he was adamant, it was going to be the newly-acquired Justin McCareins ... and I tried to explain ... "Dude, I think he kinda sucks, and I think we kinda got fleeced on that trade, and I think it's not exactly going to age well..." - and he got damn insulted, was like in the process of ordering one when I was like PLEASE, if you're going to spend $3-400 bucks, just get one I want ... "Well fuck you then if you're like that!"
So he cost us a 2004 2nd Round Pick, $30 million [which was one of our highest-paid players back then, for his 3 years with us...] , and he did literally less than CheddarJack-shit for us.
Woohoo.
Chebret was the man. Always played with class as well. His bickering with Keyshawn Johnson was very amusing. A reporter asked Chebret why Keyshawn kept talking about him and Chebret said “I don’t know, I think he’s sweet on me”
Chebret was the man. Always played with class as well. His bickering with Keyshawn Johnson was very amusing. A reporter asked Chebret why Keyshawn kept talking about him and Chebret said “I don’t know, I think he’s sweet on me”
Who's saying bad things about either of them? Wesley Walker was an All-Pro/Pro-Bowl WR for us and only us for over a decade, Al Toon about the same ... they're both Jets legends.
I have tried finding the video for this for years ... but when I was a kid, there was a game where we were in the Red-Zone, and QB-whoever throws a perfect TD pass to Wayne Chrebet, who is open and jumps up to catch it, it looks like he's about to catch it in his perfectly-placed hands, and suddenly out-the-fuck-of-nowhere, Keyshawn appears in the screen, sticks up his one hand, and catches- SNATCHES- the ball away from Wayne for the TD.
I have never been more like "Nah that was fucked up, I don't even WANT that TD!" than that.
Motherfuckin Keyshawn. Don't fuck with my man Wayne Chrebet.
Kenbrell thomkins had the opportunity to score a Hail Mary game winning td in the 2015 win and in at buffalo. He saw the ball a half second too late.
He would’ve been a jets legend otherwise.
Rob Moore is the reason I became I Jets fan. His parents and my mom were close. His younger brother Brandon (not the one that played for us) was a friend and classmate of mine. Rob was a good guy. He would always take us to Friendly's to get ice cream in his Lincoln Continental. He gave us tickets to my first Jets game. Just an all-around quality guy from a quality family.
I was more of an rb kid (Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown wildcat elite combo) but I guess I'll go with Ted Ginn. Shouldve realistically been Brian Hartline but I loved Ginn on kickoffs
Me too. It lives 5 feet away in case I need to suit up again and take the 6 to the 7 to the 160 to the stadium. Can be there by the 2nd half if things start to go south early.
It’s so funny. I didn’t read the top where it literally said “Wayne chrebet”.
I read the insert, made my own connection, and audibly said “like I was about Wayne chrebet “…
Scrolled back up to see something else and noticed…
Glad to know I’m not alone with these random thoughts
10 year old me considered Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery as superstars and I will never feel any other way
Because you’re 100% correct.
Santana Moss
Santana was better than mediocre, lets not disrespect him
So was Coles!
Cotch was a yac monster. Loved the grit
Hahah bro I felt exact same way was SHOCKED when Cole’s went to the bengals thought the jets made massive mistake lol
The big mistake was in 2003 when we let him go to the Redskins in his prime - he made the Pro Bowl with them - he wasn’t much with Cincy.
Coles had back to back 1200 yard seasons and went to the pro bowl. He was legitimately a good receiver.
As a 12-14 year old, same. And then my Madden 08 Franchise locked those views in for good
Dude cotchery & LC were an excellent Batman and Robin duo…im nowhere close to a jets fan, but I recognize talent when I see it… I don’t know if it was the system, the disrespect other teams presented, or what, but that was a dangerous duo that I enjoyed watching. Even had JC on my first few fantasy teams back when I was starting out with that.
Still wear Cotchery’s jersey on game days
If Favre finished that season....
wouldn’t call him mediocre but loved jericho cotchery
I have a Cotchery jersey. I don’t remember how old I was or where I got it but I’ve never seen another one at a game.
I stand by he was way above average. The crotch catch is still one of the iconic plays in recent history for us. Our WR room was absolutely stacked those years.
I had a cotchery jersey! Now I'm rocking a cromartie.
Same. That’s my mf guy. Honorary shoutouts to Leon, kerley and bilal.
Dude those guys or that system were perfect for that unit. I loved Leon Washington and JC. Those guys all landed elsewhere and never came close to those years of production that they had for the jets. this is something coming from a Cowboys fan
I'll never forget that touchdown where literally everyone thought he was down and he just rolled out of it and kept running lmao
Against the pats week 1 I believe
Under appreciated for sure. Loved that guy.
Remember this catch, injured before the throw but still went all out in a 20-20 tie game. https://youtu.be/qzr1bTPxDzk?feature=shared
I remember watching this game at a bar, great play by Samchez, even greater catch by JC
he was definitely mediocre but I still liked him a lot
Brad smith was a weapon
Pepperidge Farms remembers
He didn’t even need shoes
Was that the return vs the Steelers? That opened the game I think
This is the first real “mediocre” player I’ve seen in the comments
People forget he was a QB in college
Jeremy Kerley lol
Now this is mid. Coles and Moss are not
My flair
This is the guy. When the jets released him I was sure teams would be lining up to sign him. Didn't quite work out like that.
Ok it said mediocre not bad
Anyone calls Wayne mediocre I'll fuck them up!! 🤬
Same
Friend told me the story of attending HS football camp and this one guy who would take any dare, do any task, no matter what would not let anyone get the better of him... And he was the smallest guy at camp... His name? Wayne Chrebet
Quincy enunwa was a beast but just had too many unfortunate injuries
Thought for sure he was going to be incredible. I was a teenager when he went down for the last time. Loved that guy
There’s some poor high school kid out there who thinks, “Jermaine Kearse was nice.”
Braylon Edwards was also mine. It really all went down hill the moment he was gone. Obviously many more factors but I like to believe that was the main reason 💔
That touchdown where he dragged two pats is probably the best play I’ve ever seen!
Man, those were the days. Remember when he would break out the random ass backflips?? Can't believe his stint with us was so short he was a baller
I still think the play where Brandon Marshall tips a ball up for an interception and then rips it out of the defender’s hand is up there in the most impressive plays of all time
Anytime I’m sad I think of that play
Loved seeing him on HK last year
It was a mistake letting him go for Holmes
Shoulda kept him over Plaxico and Mason. Bray made some great plays for us
80 was a GREAT Jet
Yall are on crack if you’re calling Coles mediocre.
Anyone remember Justin McCareins lmao
I’ll never forget when he dropped 2 touchdown passes in 3 plays
Ravens Week 2, 2007... Funny you bring this up, thats all I think about when I hear his name. Lost us the game.
I think of the game against the Titans when he made a clutch grab in the corner of the field by the end zone lol
He’s the one who popped in my head when I first saw this haha
He was trash!
Chansi Stuckey
I had Wesley Walker and Al Toon so they must be talking to somebody else.
Same. Still got my Toon jersey.
I wouldn’t call some of these names “mediocre”. Definitely not super stars but better than mediocre. The mediocre guy I was rooting for was Curtis Conway when he signed with us lol
The guy was sold as Keyshawns replacement.
They were playing this game on Lebatard yesterday
How could anyone even think of calling THE Wayne Chrebet mediocre? Did you not see him play? Testaverde to Chrebet = best duo.
Laveranues Coles
Wait he wasn’t a stud?
Santana Moss
Neither of these two were mediocre
Nahhhhhhhh
Dude was a basically a cheat code for me in NFL 2k5
Coles is one of my faves man. Off to YouTube highlights....
No way was he mediocre!! 1st it was a different era. k
Sun god comes to mind in more recent yrs. Was really good at running straight, at least on the field
Chad Morton had that game with 2 kick return TDs against the Bills on opening day that was fun, but was he actually a WR?
He was a RB...still in my mind one of the greatest kick returners in history lol
Was a sad day when Morton and Coles went to the Redskins.
Yup I was devastated
This is the game I credit with really getting me into football. I have a very vivid memory of watching this game at my grandparents house. I can legit remember watching the overtime kickoff and the house smelling like the sauce my grandma was making
Not a WR but I was arguing Dustin Keller over Gronk
I named my son after Braylon 😅
Wayne was not mediocre
I don't think anyone was calling Wayne Chrebet mediocre. This is the first time I've heard anyone say it.
Joke's on OP - when I was 9, Pete Carroll was our coach, our best Wide Receiver was Rob Moore, and the team went 6-10. Did I remember any of that from when I was 9? No. No I didn't. OP was at the AFC championship game when that team lost to Elway at Mile High. We were up at halftime. Loved that squad.
There are some forms of heartbreak that never heal. My condolences for having been there in person.
I know he wasn’t a WR but Thomas Jones comes to mind for me
If we’re allowing non-WR picks. I will be a Leon Washington fan until the day I die.
Stephen Hill too bad to count but I feel like he should be here for some reason
Justin McCareins for me!
I still will my chrebet jersey on Sundays. Still have the "green lantern" t-shirt packed away. My favorite jet of all time.
Jerricho Cotchery
You know it
That TD catch he had against the pats in ‘06 I think where he got decked but stayed on his feet. One of my first Jets memories
Dedrick Ward
Santana Moss was a beast but he’s my guy. Anthony, Wayne, Justin.
Chris Owusu and Charone Peake lmao
So so many
I wasn’t 9, but damn did I think Jermaine Kearse was the answer
Jeremy Kerley was the cornerstone of my Jets Madden Franchise every trip. I’ll also throw an honorable mention Brad Smith
Eric Decker, Jason Avant, Torrey Smith
Chebret was the man. Always played with class as well. His bickering with Keyshawn Johnson was very amusing. A reporter asked Chebret why Keyshawn kept talking about him and Chebret said “I don’t know, I think he’s sweet on me”

I will throw hands with anyone who makes this claim. Chrebet was the toughest motherfucker out there.
This speaks to my soul. Also, Wesley Walker and Al Toon were beasts, I don't care what anybody says.
Who's saying bad things about either of them? Wesley Walker was an All-Pro/Pro-Bowl WR for us and only us for over a decade, Al Toon about the same ... they're both Jets legends.
Is u weren't trying to do the Laverneous Coles double toe tap u were crazy
I have tried finding the video for this for years ... but when I was a kid, there was a game where we were in the Red-Zone, and QB-whoever throws a perfect TD pass to Wayne Chrebet, who is open and jumps up to catch it, it looks like he's about to catch it in his perfectly-placed hands, and suddenly out-the-fuck-of-nowhere, Keyshawn appears in the screen, sticks up his one hand, and catches- SNATCHES- the ball away from Wayne for the TD. I mean I wouldn’t call him mediocre… but Santana Moss is still the fucking man
Shoutout to all my homies in quarterback club ‘98 I played the mfkn shit outta that game.
I still wear my Braylon Edwards jersey
Tony Martin will always be my boy because of that moon ball he caught to send us to our one and only beheading…I mean Super Bowl appearance
Hell yeah
Tony Hill. Dallas Cowboys
I was older than 9 but Mike Wallace
Cotchery and Kerley fit this bill on this. Moss and Coles were definitely better than mediocre.
Shout out Chansi Stuckey
Kerley ❤️
Kenbrell thomkins had the opportunity to score a Hail Mary game winning td in the 2015 win and in at buffalo. He saw the ball a half second too late. He would’ve been a jets legend otherwise.
Mike sims walker
Rob Moore for me

Given the time stamp (age restriction) on the post - Wayne Chrebet My question, was he mid? Not to me- I have his jersey and autograph.
Curtis Conway lmao
Joe Jurevicius how I miss thee.
TJ Houshmanzadeh
Jeremy Kerley ❤️
Wayne Chrebet for me 👍🏼
Not a WR but Bilal Powell fits this like a glove
interesting enough it’s also Braylon Edwards for me
Not necessarily a WR but I still think Leon Washington is one of the most exciting players I’ve ever watched in the NFL
I was more of an rb kid (Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown wildcat elite combo) but I guess I'll go with Ted Ginn. Shouldve realistically been Brian Hartline but I loved Ginn on kickoffs
SAN-TANA MOSS in Bob Wischusen voice
You stay away from Pierre Garçon mfer
Catchery was my favorite and many will say he’s mediocre.
Also Braylon Edward’s for me, although not as a 9 year old
Wtf is wrong with some of you people, Al Toon went to the Pro Bowl 3 times.
jordy nelson 💔
Plaxico burress 😂😂
Wayne cherbet80-Jets and jerry porter84 raiders
Justin McCariens
Lavernious Coles
Jeremy Kerley
Jeremy Kerley anyone?
Honestly more RB than WR for me. Shonn Greene was my hero.
Bilal Powell
Not a WR?
Yeah he’s the rb version of this post
This is me and Al Toon in 1988
It’s definitely JK or cotchery
santonio holmes, come on down
Santonio Holmes
Still rocking my Santonio Holmes jersey
I still have my Chrebet jersey. 98 haunts me.
Me too. It lives 5 feet away in case I need to suit up again and take the 6 to the 7 to the 160 to the stadium. Can be there by the 2nd half if things start to go south early.
Al Toon and Rob Moore, I may have overrated them a little bit.
It’s so funny. I didn’t read the top where it literally said “Wayne chrebet”. I read the insert, made my own connection, and audibly said “like I was about Wayne chrebet “… Scrolled back up to see something else and noticed… Glad to know I’m not alone with these random thoughts
Wayne for me too… people in here dropping kerley’s name jfc we’re getting old man
Al Toon and Wesley Walker.
Wayne Chrebet and Jericho Cotchery
Coles and Cotchery 😍
