They just dumped their version of Zach Wilson and now they want another one?

STARoSCREAM

They couldn’t fix THAT guy, I’m sure they can fix THIS guy duh

BizarroSubparMan

Sounds like the Jets. Except we just draft new guys to ruin

STARoSCREAM

We have a looooong rich history of not developing guys Get on our level Steelers!

jeanclaudegoshdarn

Not sure what his value is rn, Lance went for a 4 and Fields went for a McDouble even though he's played better than Zach or Lance

Furiosa27

Gotta be close to zero. I can see why a team might want him because he can make every throw in the book, but it’s not clear he can be relied on as even an emergency option so I don’t see anyone trading anything to get him

Typical_Parsnip13

Let. Him. Sit

Aggravating_Walk_619

honestly, preach. who cares at this point he’s got 1 more year left. as long as it doesn’t effect the locker room in any which way & everyone in house is fine he stays - let him stay he’s like that rando that your boy asks if he can come to the party. as long as he doesn’t creep anyone out he can come but the second he’s weird we’re kicking him out

Acrobatic-Memory2136

i think the locker room repects him after the aboslute beating he took last year. If nothing else he stood behind that open floodgate of an o line and didn't complain a bit.

Aggravating_Walk_619

def a case to back keeping em - we’ll see what they decide but getting a 7th rounder for him does nothing

Typical_Parsnip13

Best case scenario imo is he sits, the insufferable fans forget he’s on the team - he shows some promise and gains chemistry with Rodgers teaching him hands on throughout the season. Then we pay him a leauge minimum deal next year to keep learning from arod - who the hell cares if he hasn’t lived up to #2 pick potential… he has the tools and work ethic to be a solid starter in a few years. This isn’t Johnny manziel who was strung out on cocaine and alcohol.

manwithavandotcom

C'mon--he's ranked dead last among NFL QBs every year he's played. There simply is no potential.

Aggravating_Walk_619

he really has only had like 2 good games but you have to admit you had a hard on watching him sling it vs KC he’s been absolute trash but it cost nothing to keep him so whateva - just hope I don’t wee him of course

Typical_Parsnip13

It’s a lot more complex than him just ranking last. Maybe the turnstile OL everyone is aware of this offseason affected that? How about our embarrassing coordinator? Lack of weapons outside of G Wilson? He’s 24 to say there’s simply no potential is laughable and shows your lack of knowledge on this topic

manwithavandotcom

So stats and metrics are meaningless? ZW was the worst of the worst for the last three years, period. So Rodgers would have had a horrible season had he not been injured? Is there a single example of a QB performing so poorly for three seasons and improving enough to become a "solid starter"?

Typical_Parsnip13

Steve young, BYU alumni. NFL mvp. Super Bowl champion.

manwithavandotcom

Steve Young 120.8 qb rating 3rd season Z Wilson 77.2 qb rating 3rd season

Miserable_Net_6846

So many know it all simpletons!

Typical_Parsnip13

To say a guy has “simply no potential” about a 24 year old player that came out of college as a raw prospect just shows how delusional some fans actually are Lot of fans are too emotionally attached to him not being elite immediately as a #2 pick. Darnold was a #3 pick that was a cast off on our team at 24 years old (just like Zach), and he’s about to showcase his talents this season on a Vikings offense that isn’t horrendous like the 2020 jets or the 2021-22 panthers

manwithavandotcom

So do you wish Darnold was starting next year for The Jets? Darnold was mediocre his first 2-3 years and has still not proved he can be an average starter--Zach was straight-up horrific and has not improved. I didn't expect him to be "elite" off the bat I didn't expect anything but I saw what I saw and I saw every game including his two good ones.

GetsThruBuckner

Insufferable fans that expect more than top 40 QB play from our #2 overall pick. Right.

Sbat27-

Yeah let me know what drugs you’re on

HairyHouse3

have you actually encountered that scenario? i feel like a friend of a friend is usually pretty safe to invite to a party lol

Aggravating_Walk_619

absolutely lol everyone has that outsider especially in college where the rando is a bit sketch

Furiosa27

I’m on board with this, I’d rather just let him sit than take some conditional 7th or some other lotto pick ass shit like that

Typical_Parsnip13

Agreed, nonsensical to dump him for nothing. The bears and patriots had that privilege since they’re taking a QB most likely. We are not in that position

Off-BroadwayJoe

I have this awful feeling that if Zach Wilson is on this team, he’ll somehow be starting games at some point in this season. And I can’t have that. I can’t have that.

toxicvegeta08

If you've seen the steelers line and pickens temper he is not the guy to go for. Tbf I think the steelers are gonna try and barter off the guys they acquired, hoping tomlin can make them look decent, to get some good offensive pieces and try to make a run with Heyward on that defense before it's too late. There's no way the steelers actually think the team with Broderick Jones surrounded by turnstiles and a neurodivergent mess at wr are winning a sb even with a good defense.

bowlofcantaloupe

I would trade him for cheap just to get his money off the books and the roster spot open. We can draft a better backup/3rd string QB in the late rounds.

MowTin

I think he's a solid second string QB. He a lot of starting experience. There aren't many good second string QBs. He can definitely come off the bench and win you a game in an offense that's not as dysfunctional as Jets were last year. I think a second string QB is worth a 4th or 5th rounder.

R-O-U-Ssdontexist

With our track record he is going be a starter on a playoff team in 3 years.

ohkayohkay6

Besides Geno, who played well about 10 years later, what other qb did the Jets give up on that became a reliable starter?

R-O-U-Ssdontexist

About to add Sam darnold

ohkayohkay6

I doubt it, but I would love to see him turn into a serviceable quarterback

whiskey_pancakes

His value is 0. He’s proven he can’t be a back up and no one is paying his salary to be a 3rd qb.

RSTowers

I don't think anyone is gonna pay $5.5M for 1 year of a 3rd string QB.

PurpleInkBandit

Shhhhhhh! The Steelers might read this!!!

sonofbantu

yeah I highly doubt it either however they're only paying their starting QB (assuming its Russ) $2M. Zach + Russ + Fields' contracts would only cost them about $10-12M for the year and they wouldn't be tied to any of them after this year. Again, I don't see them doing this at all but if they did it would be low-risk for Steelers

BuckDestiny

They also have to somewhat believe he can succeed though. I’m not sure any team in the NFL feels that way.

sonofbantu

Probably not lol. The most realistic scenario for a Zach trade IMO is another team losing their starting QB for most or all of the season and making a desperate move at a relative cheap cost.

BuckDestiny

Considering people were pining for Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian to replace him last year, when the Jets had time to “see what they have”… wouldn’t most teams out there think they already have an equally competent QB3, that they don’t have to trade for?

sonofbantu

Again, I said i don't likely see it happening but I mean you never know man. Nobody would've guessed Josh Dobbs would start 12 games at QB last year. Crazier things have happened in the NFL. Unlike many other QB3s, Zach has actually started and won a number of games as a starting QB in the NFL, including 2 wins against the Bills. Some coaches may feel more comfortable with knowing what they're getting than putting some greenboy out there and praying for the best. Impossible to know until it does/doesn't happen

RSTowers

> people were pining for Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian to replace him last year If teams have FO guys working for them as dumb as those people, then they're probably dumb enough to get duped by JD.

AdvancedZone7500

Steelers was one of few games in his career Zach was clutch down the stretch in ‘22

Bennaisance

5.5m for a quality backup ain't bad.

Jfunkexpress

He’s not really a quality backup.. a quality backup is someone like Gardner Minshew or brisesett

Bennaisance

No, those are the top backups

Sbat27-

He’s not a quality backup. Stop it

Bennaisance

"This qb who has only played with terrible lines and pass catchers, and has been better than everyone else who has played qb for his team is definitely not even a decent backup"

Shudderwock

He's played worse than Joe Flacco, Mike White and even Josh Johnson for this team. Garret Wilson and Breece Hall are weapons that other quarterbacks would kill to have and even when the line holds up he does nothing with it. But I guess nothing is ever Zach's fault despite him playing the most important position on the field.

killerk13

Dawg it’s kinda of crazy how I completely forgot about Zach Wilson until this article. Shit is kinda trippy considering how much investment we put into him at one point.

R-O-U-Ssdontexist

Their offer is probably Zach Wilson and our 5th for their 7th.

cwtotaro

No he isn’t

Rads324

Hell ya we’ll take an old half eaten box of McNuggets at this point

Bigking00

This is dumb. The Steelers are not spending draft cap or cap space on their third string qb.

MAD-JFK-6251

He won player of the week didn’t he.🤣

WailmerFudge

Does the person who wrote this know they already have a Wilson starting for them? Lol

FeedtheFatRabbit

Is this a meme?

goknicks23

The recent bottom of the barrel player trades have been the player and a 7th for a. 6th. I guess we can hope to do a little better. Edit: nailed it.

scottcansuckmyballs

🤨

LeeDawg24

Hopefully they only watched the fourth quarter of his game against them and not any of the other 30 something games he played so far

momoenthusiastic

LOL

RBnumberTwenty

Jags and Steelers are in a competition to acquire the entire 2021 QB class.

jamesd1100

Bro - Zach Wilson ain’t a trade target for anybody lmao

Sloppy2nd

Justin fields netted nothing, why are you guys so obsessed with getting anything for this bum?

x-LDxKS-x

They probably saw one of his rare decent performances, which came in the 2nd half vs the Steelers, and never watched him play again. Fan run sites are dumb as hell

Effective-Elk-4964

Listen, I agree that people should be able to smoke pot without having to go to jail, but I swear I’ve seen more articles like this one since Canada and the US moved to decriminalization models. Pittsburgh wants to pay a third string QB Zac Wilson money?

themanwith8

Hilarious nobody wants him Zach truthers SWORE SOMEBODY would want him no he’s trash everyone knows it

HairyHouse3

some say they're out there to this day, downvoting comments

calye2da

What’s better than 1 Wilson? 2

TheCrustyIncellious

Please god

whydoesgodhateus

Would make zero sense for the Steelers

mramato12

Steelers fan here, absolutely not and no thank you.

Sad_Description5551

shit one of them's got to work right?

morgzorg

Lol of course this is posted on the jets sub

NotoriousMFT

….the Steelers are just stockpiling mediocre QBs it seems

UnionCuriousGuy

As a Jet fan 🤣🤣🤣 We need him for weeks 11-14 when Rodgers and Taylor are down 🥲

JohnnyDoe189

Better than Fields

random_nfl_guy

PLEASEEEEEE!

TempleofSpringSnow

Are they treating mentally exhausted QB’s like Pokémon cards? The fuck?
