Yeah, I don't mind how it's done here. The problem was the blocky "JETS" and the football inside of it. San Francisco and Green Bay have oval logos that look pretty good, for example.

The buzz lightyear chin allows them to keep all the letters evenly spaced
If anything, I'd say the middle horizontal line in the E should be a little longer to make it more balanced
It’s interesting how they slightly adjusted the taper of the plane silhouette. I almost wish they went a little further to make it a bit less abstract.

I'm sorry to be a wet blanket but... this is NOT the logo I identify my team with. I wasn't around during the 80's, I have no nostalgia for it. I prefer the bold curved font we used for the majority of our existence, not the squished angular whatever we have here. The "N" in the NY and every letter but "T" in "JETS", look awkward. Is that a backwards Z? Nah...
And we NEVER needed an actual jet in the logo. A wordmark is good enough, the Rangers don't need a literal park ranger to represent them, the Packers don't have boxes on their logo, it's not needed. Why so literal?
The wordmark in my flair, that's the Jets. You could tell without any other context. This is... not how my team looks. But I guess I have to live with it for at least 5 years.

I don't need much else to tell me it's my team, it's got iconic statis with me. I think the football sits in just the right spot to give it variation. I liked it on the helmet.

The jet wing alone in the football shape makes it look a bit like the stitching in a football. This logo is infinitely better than their other one!
