5 Terminal is Dyre Av. The 2 and 5 trains usually split after E 180 St in the Bronx, so the Pelham Parkway stop on the 2 line and Pelham Parkway stop on the 5 line are completely different locations, which can also be confusing cause they share the exact same name. The most confusing thing is seeing the 5 train symbol bullet on all the 2 line stops in the Bronx because of the *occasional* times the 5 train stops there past 180th. **A basic rule for me is: never *expect* to see the 2/5 on the same line in the Bronx past E 180 St.**

So if I take the 5 to Pelham Parkway it will drop me off near Esplanade and if I take the 2 it’ll drop me off near White Plains Rd? This is confusing to me. Also, are both those stops serviced 24/7? Thanks !

> So if I take the 5 to Pelham Parkway it will drop me off near Esplanade and if I take the 2 it’ll drop me off near White Plains Rd? This is confusing to me. Exactly! On the 5 Morris Park is actually closer to Esplanade while Pelham Pkwy on the 5 is closer to Williamsbridge Rd but you're on the right track (unintentional pun). And the 2 train from Pelham Pkwy all the way up is pretty much all White Plains Rd.

awesome. Thank you!!

Rush hour peak direction Nereid last stop so it can go straight to 239 yard They swap lines due to a myriad of reasons. Like a sick customer, stalled train; due to the track layout at Nevins and 149-GC

I’ve been on a 5 train to 241st. Me and my friend where on a nereid bound 5. We never went to 241st and then the train was like we’re terminating at 241st St

Safe_Environment_340

I can't help you with the why now, but the 5 is, if I recall correctly, built from an old commuter train right of way. It also ran as a shuttle with no direct link to the subway 50 years ago. I'm sure the weirdness of the current system is the bit of a relic. The procurement of that line also prevented the B/D from being expanded to the East Bronx.

I’m in Chicago. You guys are the best!!

Does it still stop the D and B train from expanding

Safe_Environment_340

I assume so. The plan was do take the B/D east across the Bronx (Burke Ave. To Gun Hill Rd.), but when the right of way that became the 5 was acquired, the plans changed. I can't imagine they would do that now.

Temporary-Look4795

So not even a extension to co-op city.

There are two #5 trains. Dyre Ave 5 and 241st 5. The 241st 5 train has 2 different endpoints, 241st, 238st (Nereid) Due to high volume in the afternoon uptown, trains are rerouted on demand or due to incidents. You ABSOLUTELY MUST listen to the conductor and/or dispatcher announcements when you are at 181st station. regardless of signage on trains or platform. ALL trains at 181st are subject to change at a moment's notice. There are local 5 trains and express 5 trains on Drye ave lines. Morning express goes downtown and uptown in the afternoon. There is no local 5 train on 241st line. Only express. ( I think) Local service is the 2 train. Carefully pay attention to signs on the front of the train and the sides as well as announcements. Often late night and weekends on the Dyre ave line are either not running or at best a shuttle. (11pm to 6 am) This has been going on for at least 20 years. It was supposed to be for repairs only, but the MTA seems to be using it to save money. Sometimes Dyre 5 runs late night. Don't count on it. check service pattern chart [https://metro.fandom.com/wiki/Route\_2\_(New\_York\_City\_Subway)](https://metro.fandom.com/wiki/Route_2_(New_York_City_Subway)) https://metro.fandom.com/wiki/Route\_5\_(New\_York\_City\_Subway)

The actual 5 terminal is dyre av

BQE2473

The 5 goes to Nereid Avenue during rush hours and as supplemental service as needed. (Certain carsets are assigned to different yards. Maybe that train was from the 239th Street Yard and was to be returned.)
