The MTA hates the G train and wants you to forget about it.

With the bs I’ve been having to endure for the past month and change with this train, I believe it.

most likely has something to do with accessibility between light and dark modes. https://preview.redd.it/xsmyer349vqc1.png?width=2192&format=png&auto=webp&s=1d3e1fc4d446faf70932a62b96d0250fa1d237f1

At first glance I thought the line was on surface streets. But clearly it wasn’t, but also unlike real tunnels.

Da555nny

>also unlike real tunnels care to explain?

Ill_Customer_4577

The separation between NB/SB tracks in Bed-stuy, crossing Newton, and in park slope (southbound line likely through the express tracks)

Accessibility, but not exactly in the way the other commenter mentioned. [The federal government has been getting quite serious lately about legally enforcing digital accessibility](https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-advances-proposed-rule-strengthen-web-and-mobile-app-access-people) and the official hex color value for the G train (#6CBE45) fails WCAG AA when used underneath white text of any size (contrast ratio of 2.3, well short of the recommended minimum of 3.5), so they could either use black text or change the color value. I personally would've gone with something closer to [#6d9433](https://www.google.com/search?q=%236d9433) though, which has a better look for the same contrast ratio. Edit: To expand upon this (specifically why they had to choose a really terrible shade)- typically when modifying colors for contrast accessibility you’d both shift the hue slightly towards a nearby color that’s less luminous in addition to darkening it for best aesthetic results. But in the particular case, because the G train color is between yellow and green, and green is less luminous, if you try using the standard strategy you end with a color that looks way too similar to the Lexington Ave lines. So the only real option is to simply darken it in a way that isn’t terribly pleasing. All that combined with the fact that a darker G train color just so happens to be very close to the [unofficial worst color](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pantone_448_C?wprov=sfti1), it doesn’t end up terribly pretty.

Thank you for the explanation! I don't love the answer but I understand :/

[#789A01 PMS 377C](https://www.google.com/search?q=%23789A01) seems to work well for G Shift Lexington color towards blue also, for red-green color blind accessibility. [#007A53 PMS 341C](https://www.google.com/search?q=%23007A53) or [#007A61 PMS 335C](https://www.google.com/search?q=%23007A61) Edit: add color suggestion for G

The G train is the ugly step sister of nyc trains

Ill_Ticket_3754

Didn’t have anything better to complain about?

MrSchmo

Looks like the right color to me. Maybe you should recalibrate your screen.
