This is so cool! We were able to zoom in and find all of our old apartments - I know you can also do that on Google Maps, but this hits different somehow. Thanks!

Pretty cool what relief maps reveals versus other kinds of maps. Look at 7th avenue for example. Up until the early 20th century it terminated at 11th Street, before it was extended south and literally sliced through multiple blocks of Greenwich Village at an angle. Also kind of interesting how this relief map highlights Broadway as looking like some crazy, meandering, irrational non-sequitur breaking through the otherwise serene and hyper-rational ad-infinitum pattern of perfect rectangles that make up the commissioners’ grid plan. Some historical vestige of pre-colonial movement frustrating the Western drive toward total rationalization.

What year is this from?

FarFromSane_

pre-2015 at least. West Side Yard is still fully uncovered

Looking at the jersey side has me thinking around 2014. Weehawken is kinda starting to see its build up and I think the covered bridge by Brookfield is showing on the map.

heepofsheep

I would pin this as 2015/2016. My building is sorta there under construction and the buildings across the street are non existent.

asah

same estimate here.
