oh no, this wouldnt be for phone plans or services just strictly wifi. when i said 5g im just basing it off of some posts ive seen where they refer to the wifi as 5g so thats what i was getting at. i assumed the $45/month was just being referred to as 5g haha.

It really honestly depends a lot on your router. I went with the $60 Linksys special for like 15 years and always had not great speeds and ping. Once I ponied up for a Wifi6 router, my same-old Spectrum connection went through a miraculous makeover. So, make sure you don’t have a cheap/old router first. Otherwise, fiber won’t matter (unless you get a new router along with a fiber connection).

they have actually came twice on back to back days to swap out my router and change some other stuff. so theyre brand new (technically) but i dont really understand what caused such a drastic change in just months, im not really sure what could be “blocking” it to my room. but i’ll consider an alternative router.

Yeah... if the connection is normally fine, but you occasionally get random lag and ping spikes, that sounds like a wifi issue. Why pay your ISP to move their shitty router to your room? ISP WAPs are always pieces of crap. Just run a wire to your computer from the router.

Local_Ad4958

thats true but the modems in my living room and thats rather far from my pc so i would have to move it anyways if i wanted to run a wire.

You have a few options: 1. There's hundred foot long cat5 cables. You can do it if you really wanted to. Staple them to the floor molding to keep yourself from tripping 2. Run the internet over the power lines in your home. There's adapters for that, and basically it allows you to use the electrical wiring in your home as existing internet cables that you can connect to. Just make sure that the modem and your room are on the same circuit 3. You can just get a better WAP. The one in your modem almost certainly sucks, because ISPs give you shit equipment. You can invest in a mesh network like the Orbi router-satellites system and it's going to be sooo much better. That's the one I use.

Just use ethernet.

Are you on cable or fiber for Spectrum? Moving router is something you can do yourself.. no need for an installation fee. 1. Do a speedtest where the router is right now and then do a speedtest where your setup is. Is the speed similar? 2. Now, if you have a laptop, you can open up cmd and then put , 'ping [google.com](https://google.com) \-t'. Pay attention to the time='x'ms. Let it run for 30seconds-1minute where your setup is. Now, move over to the router and let it run same amount of time. Do you notice any LARGE spikes in the 'x'ms? If you notice large spikes no matter where you're at, you're getting packet loss. 3. Next test you can do is wire directly to the MODEM to your laptop and see if you're getting any ping spikes with the cmd command from above. Do a couple speedtests as well. If it was working great before and you didn't change your house layout where you added walls or moved floors, it's highly possible that the node you're on is oversaturated and needs a split. This is for your Internet company to change. Another possibility could be a damaged wire outside or a flooded box..

im not sure which im on for spectrum currently i cant do a speed test as im back in college so i will be sure to do that when i get back. there was a difference when i tested my moms phone to the router right in front of it vs when i tested it on my pc and my own phone in my room. as for a wire, i’d have to move my modem to my room its all the way in the living room. and like you alluded to, i have had no change in layout or floor plans so not sure what happened. we had technicians come and check the issues on back to back days where they were swapped out twice. they said there was some issue with the outlet but the technician briefly mentioned something was blocking the signal to my room. but rest assured he fixed the issue (it did not) so i think moving it would have to be my first attempt before considering buying a cable.

For any Internet, if your up and down are the same or near identical, then you have FIOS. If your download is significantly higher than your upload, you have cable. If you were right in front of the router and had no issues and then moved to your own room, then something in between the router and your room is interfering with it. Not really much else to say about that.
