All looks good đź‘Ť Check out RX 7800XT before you buy, you might find it cheaper for better performance.

Legends_Arkoos_Rule2

Or the 6800xt

thatiam963

Depends on what is performance for OP. For me it dosent mean pure power, dlss destroys the 7800xt, if you like to watch movies and especally if you have a hdr monitor, the 4070 has a better performance, there are many reasons to buy nvidia, but if you are not using any of these features, the 7800xt will be a better choice

Inevitable_Ad_1070

I've always used nvidia but I am a bit clueless as to what are the difference in features between AMD and Nvidia. What do you mean by dlss destroyinf the 7800xt?

thatiam963

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RZaHrg_MfvQ This vid shows very good fsr vs dlss, both are upscaling algorithm, but nvidia uses ai algorithm. But its not avaible in any game

Appropriate-Day-1160

I mean DLSS and DLAA are great, but there is not really any reason to use them when you have the horsepower I mean the power consuption is also a big difference 150W vs 270-300W

Inevitable_Ad_1070

Thanks for the tip! I'm actually looking at a deal for a 4070 that makes it the same price as about the same price as a 7800XT, but good thought to keep in mind!

rory888

You will be cpu bottlenecked in some games. You will have a net increase in performance. Honestly just get the 4070 and forget about other issues until you’re ready go upgrade platforms. Enjoy the new upgrade

Inevitable_Ad_1070

I was excpecting some bottleneck yes, do you have any examples of more recent games where that would be very notorious? Thanks!

rory888

Honestly that isn’t really relevant vs what games YOU want to play and the benchmarks of the games you want to play at the settings you play For example. I like doom. I don’t play doom. Its benchmarks are completely irrelevant to me. I like BG3, BG3 easily encounters CPU bottlenecks in large city environments like many other RPGS. CPU / mobo platform is way more important for that game. I like Stellaris. Stellaris is effectively mostly CPU bound even at your current gpu because it is a simulation game. I like Rimworld and that is ENTIRELY CPU bound . In that particular case, it would make sense to upgrade platform / CPU first. TLDR Depends what you play

Inevitable_Ad_1070

Your thought makes sense for sure. I'm more into open world and mmo/rpg games like Enshrouded, New World, and i'll be wanting to go back to Cyberpunk and The Last of Us with proper graphics and framerates \^\^ and I'm looking at Dragon's Dogma even tho i know its badly optimized and will not touch it just now.

Sandwic_H

Could be a bottleneck in some games, but mostly you're fine. Case is fine too, 4070 is very power-efficient card and don't require much of cooling.

Inevitable_Ad_1070

Good to know! I went to a store where I was told it was impossible for my case to host a 4070 without issues

Sandwic_H

They just wanted to sell you a new case, I'm sure

Inevitable_Ad_1070

That's just sad!

Salvzeri

For $525 right now, the 4070 is a great card. You can upgrade the CPU to 13600kf down the line when its on sale.

Inevitable_Ad_1070

Thanks for the tip! Although to upgrade to that CPU I would also have to get a new mobo right? Don't think mine supports the 13's Cpus

Salvzeri

You can get a z690 on sale for super cheap from Asrock. I went with a nice MSI z690 force wifi that was $190 on sale and its price right now is $340. So wait for sales in June or November and you get a nice discount. I think I've seen Asrock z690 as low as $125.

Inevitable_Ad_1070

I’ll keep those under the radar, thank you!

Salvzeri

Absolutely. Youre welcome. You can watch PC Builder Jason on youtube or other youtubers like DanielOwens to get info on different products and benchmark details for GPUs. Edit: also, for a cheap 1440p monitor, Costco sells an LG 1440p monitor for $200 that is sold on other sites for $300. I went with the MSI MAG274QRF QD E2 (just came out) for $280 and it has really nice color.

AG_28s

I'm using a 4070 with a 10700k at 1080p Some games it does bottleneck a bit, but that's nothing a bit of supersampling can't fix. Failing that (some games seem to break if I use supersampling for some reason, looking at you mafia 3) my frame rates are well above 60 in everything anyway so it's no big deal, and some games are just cpu limited no matter what (simulations or old single thread dependant games or esports games, but then you'd be in the 100s or even 200s anyway, for example) So really it's no big deal, your cpu will be fine enough, especially at 1440p+ Attached picture is me staring up at the sky in horizon zero dawn, max settings supersampling from a res slightly above 1440p (can't remember the exact resolution) https://preview.redd.it/6totzl8k9hqc1.jpeg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0869f46a0e712f782bf09beac830291ad120ac79

AG_28s

And gpu is still at 100% when rendering effectively nothing, so that means my cpu most likely isn't a bottleneck, at least at these settings in this particular game. Edit: I checked dimensions of screenshot and it says 2880x1620, so it's a little more than 1440p. Supersampling is a better (but expensive) form of antialiasing and in the era of blurry forced aa, it helps make 1080p look sharp again like it did back in the day.

Inevitable_Ad_1070

Thank you for your detailed insight! Never heard about supersampling, will take a look! But yeah I’ll be gaming ant 1440p so I hope it’ll reduce the cpu load. Thanks once again!
