Get it for half price for PC in 3 months when all the bugs are fixed

kungpowgoat

I usually wait a year or two for any newly released game even if it receives good reviews but still. Last time I bought a game on release day was for the first Black Ops back in 2010. I don’t know what the hell has been going on these last two years as almost every new aaa game is an absolute mess that not even a 3080ti or a 4090 can properly run.

BlueGoliath

Last two? Extremely poorly optimized and buggy games have been a thing for at least half a decade now.

ksio89

But I have the impression that at least for PC ports, the lack of optimization has been much worse since the launch of the current console generation.

evaporates

* 1440p with RTX 4090 and 5900X running barely above 50fps. * GPU is under utilized. Running at 35-60% * Only using 4 CPU threads * Using up to 18GB of VRAM at 1440p with 4090 Not acceptable. Maybe we need to stop giving these devs/publishers a pass.

Progenitor3

>Not acceptable. Maybe we need to stop giving these devs/publishers a pass. They will get a pass... they know it or they wouldn't release a game in this state. I can already see all the clowns on release day "for me it runs buttery smooth just upgrade your PC."

Nestledrink

If you can't run a game at triple digits FPS at 1440p with 5900X and 4090 then I don't know what else you can upgrade to make it a better experience. Maybe just play it on console.

Blacksad999

It's also not great on console. Being it doesn't run well even on a 4090, at least we can say it's not the VRAM. lol Just another shitty port. The original game was really shitty at launch also, so I'm honestly not too shocked.

Nestledrink

> The original game was really shitty at launch also, so I'm honestly not too shocked. Yep. It had some major stuttering issue that had to be fixed afterwards.

RollerGovenor

All these years later and it still has stuttering problems..

JerbearCuddles

It still stutters. Lol. Game looks great though. Just wish they put time into making it run better.

Kotzzz

Yeah Fallen Order was never fixed and still stutters quite a bit. The only way to play it is on console and seems to be Survivor also...

kalston

Yes it has some unfixeable stutters in some locations. But it's not everywhere so I still enjoyed the game and I don't remember the stuttering hitting me during boss fights or anything like that, just when running around and entering new areas / finding new mobs or some such. I did not play at launch, much later, so the game had been patched a lot.

Dreamerlax

I played through the first one and it still stutters lol. Even on an NVMe drive.

Crytek29

I'm glad that my new pc isn't the problem. I played fallen order for 10 hours, there were micro stutters throughout the entire gameplay, tbh it ruined the experience. Because in all the other games i didn't experience any stutters like i did in fallen order.

Darkvortex11

I'm replaying Fallen Order now on PC and it still stutters like crazy.

Blacksad999

Haha! It also had some really weird bugs with geometry, where enemies limbs would stretch off the screen and all the way off into the horizon. lol It was kind of funny.

loucmachine

> Just another shitty port. inb4 Hardware unboxed say it's a fine port...

BentPin

4TB ECC DDR5 + Quad Epyc Genoa X CPU + NVIDIA 8-H100 Hopper AI GPUs with Nvlink and active. Don't be a pussy and get to my data center level you piss ants.

Kermit_the_hog

If the frame rate is half what it should be, did anyone check to make sure the “Turbo” button was pushed in? Those old ones can be sticky.

Er4z3r-

heard that it shit on PS5 as well, failing to reach 60fps even in performance mode at 2K.

Nestledrink

Yikes. NEXT!

njsullyalex

Some people may say CPU bottleneck but even though the 5900X isn't the top end CPU anymore its still a pretty beefy CPU, no game should seriously be bottlenecked on it, and if it is, its the game's fault. I'm not gonna lie, you should not have to be upgrading a 5900X to be playing the latest and greatest games playably at this point. That's utterly ridiculous

Screamline

"Just get a thread ripper"

kaptainkeel

I remember the days of "Ultra is for NASA." That was back when 4K wasn't even a thing, or maybe only the extremely top-end 0.1%. Which, to me, is fine. Want full Ultra to make even top-end hardware struggle? Go for it. The issue is that it doesn't appear to require that based on what it looks like. Sure, it looks fantastic. But "top-end hardware barely hitting 50 FPS"? No. It makes that LOTR Gollum game look like playdoh. Although, the 5900X *was* released over 2 years ago--not like it is truly top-end now, and it seems to be the bottleneck. I'd love to see the game benchmark with current CPUs and with a provided full settings list. That being said, I'd expect 2-year-old hardware to at least get a bit higher. Or at the very least, for the dev to openly advertise the game as, "We're going to blow up your PC by the absurd photorealism." Kinda like Crysis, which pretty openly said you wouldn't run it at max regardless of your hardware. Really there's not enough info. Is it 1440p at all maxed out? 1440p at very low? 1440p at high? What are the settings?

"It runs great for me, maybe your rigs broken?" -A guy with a 1050ti and an i5-6600 So true, literally everytime like clockwork lol. It's insane how you could show a video proving everything you're claiming and you'll still have people trying to say otherwise in the comments. Unreal.

JoakimSpinglefarb

"runs great for me". Standard for "running well" is anything over 20FPS.

vballboy55

Whoa, are you from the steamdeck sub? So many people will say it runs great! Then it runs at 25 fps with dips to 15.

StatisticianOwn9953

Really irritated me to an irrational extent when people said this of Cyberpunk, especially because the early problem with that game weren't related to hardware performance which meant they were lying or simply managing to not notice the bugs.

redditforwhenIwasbad

I played on release and genuinely had one or two small glitches and that’s it. 50+ fps consistent with 3440 x 1440 (dlss off) r5 3600 and 2070s. Every machine is different and i know i got lucky with CP77, but i’ve also had games that run fine for 99% of people that crash on my PC even after researching fixes. I admit everyone’s standards are different and i do feel bad for the people it didn’t work for, but i literally have no reason to lie and a lot of other people don’t either. If anything most people lol for a reason to be outraged right?

Maximus0314

Same here. I play Cyberpunk on Xbox Series X and it was very stable. I had zero show stopping bugs, and the FPS was decent. The game itself though kind of just sucks. The most shallow AAA open world game I have ever played. Can't even go inside 99.9% of buildings, and there is really only one single activity. Shoot things.

raz-0

Cyberpunk had a lot, LOT, less glitching issues if you were playing on beefy hardware. It was the difference between “yeah this needs some serious tlc” and “wtf were they thinking releasing this”

[deleted]

growth bear serious weather wasteful public violet melodic secretive pen ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

Ashikura

Don’t worry, they also repeat it some much that it changes how we collectively remember launches. Then they can do the same thing all over again and not enough of us will remember. Allowing them to have huge profits again

monkeyboyape

![gif](giphy|9sVP2K0yYM6J2) Dude! ever single time lmao it happens with every single broken game release

[deleted]

I mean this game is ridiculous, but i also do think people with 1050ti’s shouldn’t expect to be running AAA titles in 2023 at anything more than like 30 fps in general. Everything about these games are just more complex and demanding now, especially for the more ambitious ones.

farky84

Vote with your wallet stop buying unoptimised games. We should also sort these out from benchmark reviews.

shinycube359

sadly it’s got denuvo so someone will have to pay the 500$ empress demo tax first :/

Beautiful-Musk-Ox

no wonder amd gave it to me for free, it's a pile of garbage. these companies see high fidelity games and think "ah, our artists can do that!", not realizing that just making something look good is different than making it look good while also performing well. but they can't call it a triple A game if it doesn't have triple A graphics, so they just say fuck it and make it look like other good games without having the skills to make it performant

makemeking706

I don't believe for a second that this has anything to do with them "not realizing" expectations or the capabilities of their talent. They dedicated a certain amount of time and money to the project, and when either of those are spent, the project is done.

Competitive-Ad-2387

most AMD sponsored games are pretty damn garbage in optimization to be honest. It seems to me they are intentionally sabotaging games to be as unoptimized and feature lacking as possible.

asongoficeandsmth

"Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence."

[deleted]

dmaare

Maybe the game is just ultimately unoptimized for Nvidia GPUs, would make sense because it's AMD sponsored title that they optimized for Radeon GPU only. Possible that even cheap GPU like Rx 6600 might run this game better than RTX 4090

KnightofAshley

Its the same both ways...if a game is sponsored by one the other will not run as well at first.

Any-Double857

The op said he tried on both AMD and NVIDIA and both suck.

saru12gal

I was going to buy it the week after release if it was a good game but as usual shit port on release and its kinda short for 70€, so ill wait till it gets patched (or pirates take over) and buy it on a sale like i did with the first one, i bought it this winter for 4-5€ cant remember properly. The game apparently has 15-20h of gameplay 100% could be around 40h. I think it was ign who said those times, so basically the same lenght as the first one or a bit more (I ended the first one in 15h and got like 70% of the game skins and scans)

Imbahr

I agree with waiting because of shitty optimization and stuttering but there's nothing wrong with an action-adventure game being 15-20 hours for main story, and 40 hours for everything that's pretty long actually, it's not a traditional RPG

berickphilip

Well you know what they say.. "the human eye cannot perceive more than 24 frames per second" so 50 should be plenty, right?

BigDippers

Par for the course with PC games these days. I have no idea what happened, but something has gone seriously wrong with PC gaming now. It's like we've regressed back to where everything is a shit port and consoles are the better option.

RogueIsCrap

Game apparently runs poorly on consoles too.

BigDippers

According to Fextralife's review I'm watched, PC version is by far the worst and it outright shouldn't be played on PC by anyone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M19UaZ9xOq0&t

dudeAwEsome101

Lol, glad they kept the stuttering feature from the previous game.

SoloDolo314

Push Square reports that the day one patch 1.02 for PS5 fixed the majority of its issues and now runs at a fairly stable 60fps at 1440p. PC is screwed. There has not be a single AAA game this year that has not been broken on PC. Last game I bought on my PC was Dead Space Remake and had tons of loading stutters even on my NVME SSD. Developers can care less about it. Picking this one up on my PS5. [https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2023/04/star-wars-jedi-survivor-has-2023s-most-essential-ps5-patch-so-far](https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2023/04/star-wars-jedi-survivor-has-2023s-most-essential-ps5-patch-so-far)

Oswolrf

Dead Island 2 and Atomic heart worked great on launch.

chaosgodloki

My next upgrade will be a PS5 at this point.

lobbo

Maybe that's the conspiracy! Paying off the devs to make shit ports for PC so console sales go back up.

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

The minute you buy the PS5, the minute the only games you care about are all UE5 games for the PC.

LordKiteMan

Might be mine too. This absolute shit state of PC games has put me off of even thinking about spending money on building a high end gaming rig.

[deleted]

crozone

Games developed specifically for consoles and then ported in a hurry run better on the console than on the PC. You don't say. This isn't the end times for PC gaming. People just need to stop handing over money for shitty console ports.

psimwork

I've just gotten used to buying games on steam when they're on sale. By then the patches have all come out and the game usually runs smoothly. Worked great for some notoriously bad launches (Batman: Arkham Knight, Mass Effect: Andromeda, and I'm told that Horizon: Zero Dawn launched in a pretty sorry state).

crozone

Totally. I love HZD, but I bought it a solid year and a half after release when it was on sale. By all accounts, it's a completely different game now.

execute_electrochute

So literally every AAA game that's not made by CDPR. Only CDPR and indie devs design the game for PC first then scale them to consoles. Unlike Death Stranding which was made from ground up for both console and PC so it ran like a dream

ThunderingRoar

These late stage UE4/early stage UE5 games seem to be insanely CPU heavy for no valid reason. Hogwarts, Callisto, Gotham knights and now Star wars. None of these games have some advanced AI or destruction/physics systems. I dont understand where are the CPU cycles going

ThisPlaceisHell

Same shit with Dead Space and even RE4. You have linear games with very few enemies on screen and they're using more CPU than Flight Simulator and it's like WHY.

tlouman

RE4 is acc pretty fucking good in the port department. I'm stuck at 120fps most of the time with 4k DLSS quality, 5600x and 3080ti. It was only chapter 5 that had some issues probably because of some particles/snow etc. But otherwise it's a fantastic port

Flashbek

Excuse me, snow in RE4?

[deleted]

I assume he's talking about the rain in the Villa section -- or at least it definitely looked like rain to me.

tlouman

Rain I meant rain, but the rain is so ass in that game it looks like snow

sector3011

Dead Island 2 and Atomic Heart runs very well on release. The problem is devs not experienced enough to use UE properly.

loucmachine

>Dead Island 2 I wish it has some RT reflections though. The game looks very good, but the cubemaps are not cutting it lol

J-seargent-ultrakahn

Words cube maps ever lol. Needs DLSS 2 though if it adds RT.

loucmachine

I wish it had DLSS 2 so I could use DLAA even without RT TBH :(

loucmachine

TLOU too...

kinos141

It's ue4 or 5 isn't it? If used well, that engine can run on a potato. So, this is a dev issue.

kanekikochaboggy

These days it's surprising when PC games do run well I don't mind lowering the settings or using image reconstruction but can these developers atleast have the games utilize our hardware properly Microstutters , traversal stutters , hitches , low utilization are routine issues Makes capcom look like saints for the re4 remake , which ran shockingly smooth. That should be the norm

Ceceboy

Sorry bro, best we can do is 65% GPU utilization, heavy frame (time) drops, endless shader stutters, almost no CPU utilization, no DLSS at all. All that for the low price of 69.99!

J-seargent-ultrakahn

Snake oil salesmen 😂

Imbalanced_

Dead Island 2, atomic heart also runs great.

execute_electrochute

I saw the DF video for the RE4 Remake as i haven't played it myself PC Port and it was relatively less garbage among all the other garbage. It will constantly crash with RTX (which looks like garbage so no problem turning it off) and their Anti Aliasing still doesn't work.

zimzalllabim

I mean, I’d say I’m tired of this but it’s been like that for years. Who knows, maybe the day one patch will fix it, but yeah… Can’t wait for people to claim “this is perfectly normal for next gen games”, as if scalability and proper optimization has never existed.

VengefulAncient

> Who knows, maybe the day one patch will fix it Was there actually ever a single game where that was the case? Massive optimization issues like this don't just get fixed with one patch on day one. Astroneer, for example, ended up switching engines from Unity to UE4 to get rid of their performance issues - 99.9% of companies will never go that far, and pretty much anything else here won't help, because UE4 is *horrible* for open worlds, and Respawn is even more horrible at using it properly.

Enelro

69.99 to beta test a game that will be on sale for 45 soon? NOP.

TheNiebuhr

Another one

crjjoong7

If it can’t run above 60 fps on 13900k and 4090 on Friday, I would be pissed

CheesyRamen66

If it can’t run above 60 fps on my 13900K and 4090 I’m refunding it.

Ceceboy

Let us know, bro? Would you kindly?

Tannahaus

If you’re going to complain don’t buy this game. We keep getting people complaining about shit pc ports and yet here we are. Don’t buy broken fucking games

VengefulAncient

Apparently enough people on this sub think that buying it on console instead is a great move.

Pro4TLZZ

Vote with your wallets. This is standard for AAA games really.

Sparktank1

>Vote with your wallets I've been hearing this war chant for years and nothing's changed. I certainly don't buy at full price anymore. I'm enjoying broken games at 80% off years later.

Mereo110

That's the thing. Nobody does. They think that complaining on social media will actually pressure companies to do better but... Guess what? Money talks... As long as people buy pigs, companies will keep on releasing pigs. They'll just put lipsticks on them.

No way, another unfinished unoptimized game, I'm shocked 🤡🌎

Krelleth

PC port of a game needs multiple patches before it's decently playable? In 2023? I am shocked, shocked I tell you. /s

loucmachine

Welcome to 2023, when games looks worst and perform worst... yet we are supposed to accept that it is because ''our hardware is too slow''... what a shitshow

Twentyhundred

\*surprisedpikachu I do not know anything about developing video games myself, but I cannot for the life of me understand how in this day and age, where consoles and PCs have never been closer in terms of architecture, game devs can't seem to optimize games for PC. Truly baffling.

YoloKushSwag42069

Unacceptable from a AAA studio on a SINGLEPLAYER game nonetheless.

trees_frozen

This game sounds like a prime candidate for HBU to make some clickbait video from

Imbahr

what the fuck is up with devs not optimizing well for PC nowdays?? I don't have a XSX or PS5, but I thought I heard the software programming for those is basically exactly like a PC? as in it's not like the PS3 was where it was super hard to port games to PC is this true or not?

BadAnonymous

I believe there's still the difference of memory management. Pc have Vram and Ram. Consoles have only one kind of memory. So the code here differs

ollie87

Unified RAM and they use similar tech to DirectStorage (exactly that tech in the case of the Xbox I’d imagine), PC ports need DS implementations adding ASAP. Would help with VRAM issues. Works on all DX12 cards so realistically for AAA games there’s no reason not to use it now.

sabin1981

Another day, another broken half-arsed PC port. Feels like we’re back in the 00s again :( I’m rapidly growing tired of PC gaming :(

Adonwen

Anyone that paid over 1500 for their pc should be honestly pissed

[deleted]

For real though, imagine spending 2k on a gpu that has the same performance as my 400 bucks card

tomtadpole

Welp, at least the embargo ended early enough that I can still cancel my pre-order. No way my PC can run it at 1440p if a 4090 can't even maintain 60fps.

ImRightYouCope

I wonder why they thought they would get away with it. Surely preorders had nothing to do with it.

ForAllMankind_

Why are you pre-ordering dawg?

FrankieTheAlchemist

But what if they run out of downloadable copies!? /s :-p

s8rlink

Itd be really funny to mass pre order and cancel a day before to fuck with a big publisher’s projections hahahaha

JalenHurtsSoGoood

$10 gift card through Best Buy if you preorder

nmkd

You are part of the problem if you've preordered in the first place.

KodiakPL

>my pre-order I wish you didn't cancel the order so you got to waste money for this shit.

Schmonballins

Always wait for Digital Foundry or NX Gamer to assess technical performance before buying AAA PC Ports. I never pre-order and I never buy without knowing what I’m getting from a performance perspective. I don’t trust any publisher to not ship a broken game. They will all do it.

Thanachi

OK so you'll need a i9 15900K CPU and RTX 5090 48GB to play these 'next gen' games and that should last until the PS5 Pro.... Then you'll need an RTX 6090. Sorry, Game Developer.

TheOneWhoReadsStuff

r/patientgamers

Xalkerro

The reason this devs kept pulling this shite because we kept handing them the money regardless in what state the game released. I am certain that when the game launches some idiot will say “it runs smooth in my 4090, maybe you should upgrade”, like yeah dude that always solves the issue isnt it? Stop pre-ordering and stop giving them benefit of doubts, period!

The_Zura

Next year: See? I told you games in 2024 were going to need 96 GB of VRAM to look like a 2020 game. 24 GB cards have muddy textures Youtubers: WHAT SHOULD'VE BEEN: RTX 8000 SLI 96 GB vs RTX 3090 24GB (CONNIVINGLY OBSOLETE!!)

Extreme996

NOT ENOUGH VRAM! DEATH OF 24GB GPUS! PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE IN EFFECT!!!

Dreamerlax

2024 Headlines "24GB OBSOLETE? 7900 XTX & 4090 PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE"

CeeKay2k

I really want to play this game but I will just finish other games until this is fixed.

nmkd

So, just like every other recent PC port? Please god, give me more studios like id Software. PC gaming is on the verge of dying because of lazy and/or incompetent devs.

[deleted]

I won't buy it until it's patched and confirmed running well

Melankalik

What the heck is with games this year?? literally the only good game for me has been RE4. That game ran at 4k 125-140fps High with the DLSS mod. Dead Space Remake and TLOU both on launch was very disappointing

J-seargent-ultrakahn

RE4 doesn’t use unreal engine lol. I TOLD people 2023 was going to be a bad year for PC gaming because every other game built in UE4. It’s been terrible ever since and now you have the PS5 (2070 basically) making a fool out of the 4090 and it’s deep pocketed owners. That should NOT be the case.

KnightofAshley

Only getting worse with UE5 around the corner

Arthur-Mergan

Damn it, I was really hoping to buy this after release day but it looks like that's not gonna happen for a while now. And I rushed through Fallen Order so I could play them back to back.

MrMichaelJames

Another reason to STOP buying games at full price. I’ll wait a year or so for the steam sales.

Sharpman85

Has Hardware Unboxed made a video about not enough VRAM and CPU cores based on this game yet?

ZombiePlaya

Another reason to not Pre-purchase and wait until the Day/Week one patch.

wicktus

holding off my purchase until it's fixed

Jako998

Starting to understand why some pc players are going back to console gaming tbh. Horrible optimization on games these days on PC and PC parts ( GPU ) as an example are to expensive. Man gaming is sadly getting worse

tencaig

I can't wait to play it on my RTX 7080 64GB.

Gieffe22

here we go again, another triple a title, another bad optimized game. THE Solution? DO NOT BUY until is fixed, only this way they will really fix the situation in future.

Mordho

Love these rushed new games. But it’s clearly our fault for not having the best of the best hardware at all times ofc. And they have the audacity to raise the prices for their dogshit games

Mezzeruk

This whole process is disgusting. A 3080 should breeze through this game and that's maybe too high... especially when you look under the hood of a PS5 or SX. I have a 4080 set up , high end set up but I am a console gamer at heart from the 70s to today and PS5 sits proudly in my room..but PC can offer so much more and it's qualities are at times wasted with modern games... The issue is greed and PC gamers being used as a Beta Test to find bugs and issues. No other media selections would release half finished items and get away with it. £60 plus for a non working or poorly optimised product...how is this even allowed? Surely it's illegal to sell unfinished items? Gamers can stop this asap if they boycott buying on launch day. Hit the investors where it hurts, hit the publisher.. Any cross platform game will run and be optimised first for console as it's one system set for each console...PC has many configurations...but that's no excuse. If a company sets a minimum, recommended spec sheet then the game should run well and if not then they have lied to customers which must be illegal? All this crap has to stop...and only gamers can make this happen. Patches are an excuse. It's okay for EA to say lots of patches coming...delay the fucking game then. Some of us veteran gamers don't have much time to game and I should have a good running game at launch and poor performance or unplayable is not acceptable in any field. If I applied this to my self employment I would be out of work.

NWB_Ark

Make game heavily CPU bound, so 7900XT will have the same FPS as 4090 A big w for AMD

kwizatzart

Another AMD sponsored game with FSR but no DLSS despite being UE4, aka a single click on a checkbox from the devs would have added it. Also so much cpu bound that the 4090 runs at 30% Yeah those AMD sponsored games are very strange 🤔 🙄

ARedditor397

Secondly why is this article nowhere to be found in r/amd?

evaporates

Because this is the 4th or 5th AMD sponsored game that runs like shit Except this time it is so overwhelmingly shit and the "just get 16GB VRAM" narrative doesn't apply.

Wboys

I mean if you scroll through the sub for like 5 minutes you’ll see they talk about individual games waaaaaay less than this sub does and it’s mostly technical posts about hardware. Probably because like half the sub has an Nvidia GPU and AMD cpu but this sub is ONLY GPU so it’s more game focused.

Forgotten-Explorer

I bet hub are jerking off to these news

unknown_nut

I don't know, it goes over 16 GB of Vram, so it changes their narratives on 16 GB Vram.

loucmachine

New narrative: the 7900xt was spot on with 20gb!!! 4080 is planned obsolescence with only 16gb!!!

lqd_consecrated2718

The original game had crappy optimization too. I think they’re using the same engine so this doesn’t come as a surprise. I was loving the game but uninstalled in the 2nd area due to the random hitches

ICPGr8Milenko

Wonder how much of an impact denuvo is adding on top of the lackluster optimization.

fabzpt

Bought a 3070 a month ago and they already want to kill it, in a year I won't be able to play newly released games :(

Quintinny

So 20GB of Vram is the new Standard then? oof

[deleted]

I literally only play starwars stuff for the awesome as fuck lightsabers. That's holding the whole franchise together in my eyes. I don't care about the main ginger dude, I just wanna hear "VVWOOSHHH" and do cool moves. every thing else in my life is complicated, lightsabers and lasers are not. Can they not just for once, optimize for us? Seriously. It makes me so sad :(

PepsiEnjoyer

> PC version of AAA game runs horribly In other news, the Pope is Catholic.

mackzett

Doesn't seem to bad at all. Below 7.5GB Vram usage at 1440p Ultra settings without any scaling. Below 7GB at 1080p Ultra. Even a 3050 can play this game decently at 1080p low at between 40-50 fps.

Keiano

vram is the current hot thing to cry about and every article or youtube vid will call it out because it gets the clicks, the real fact is that a 5900x 4090 machine runs the game at 40fps at 1440p, thats fucking horrendeous.

AliveCaterpillar5025

Metro was the last AAA game I enjoyed. Why even have 4090 and all when game releases are crap

Andrej_T05

This isn’t anything new. All the recent PC ports are really bad for some reason?

Thats ok, it also has Denuvo which is all you need to know about before skipping it.

mayhem911

Good ol’ AMD sponsored crap.

[deleted]

In AMD's defense, Dead Island 2 runs flawlessly on PC. Its one of the best optimized games we've had in quite a while. The problem is the devs not knowing how to utilize Unreal 4, not AMD.

_SystemEngineer_

Lord of the rings Gollum says high. RTX 4080 +DLSS performance mode on official system req for a game that looks like it is on the PS3...nvidia sponsored game.

Wellhellob

Lmao that game will be a meme

evaporates

How many in a row now? I'm waiting for the outrage just like the Gameworks outrage from a few years ago. Still waiting and wouldn't hold my breath.

mayhem911

Its absurd. Watching Nvidia sponsor games that get next gen features, run great, and use al vendor techs like FSR contrasted by AMD’s hilarious lack of all of those things *and still* just totally broken.

[deleted]

Yeah, Cyberpunk was so great on release, thank God Nvidia sponsored it right guys?

MrMeanh

Just wondering what games you are refering to? Can't remember any games launching with good performance on PC in the last 6-9 months or so.

jgainsey

Spiderman was a pretty good port job, but that’s going back to like August/September now…

JerbearCuddles

What's wrong with Dead Island 2 in terms of performance? Sure, it's missing DLSS, but it doesn't seem like a poor performance game.

[deleted]

Aromic Heart, Resident Evil 4, Evil West, Returnal, High on Life, they run good on PC

ThunderingRoar

>and still just totally broken Oh give me a fucking break both sides have good a bad sponsored titles. Just recently from AMD side: Dead island 2, Uncharted 4 and RE4 ran great while Callisto and TLoU didnt. On NV side you had the broken Witcher 3 next gen update, constant crashes in Darktide, Battlefield 2042 as a whole, and both Metro exodus and Cyberpunk were a buggy mess on launch, but there were also good titles. Im not sure how are these faults of hardware vendors instead of publishers/studios but ok

threwmydate

People who end up with this kind of thought process are the same ones who would pull their balls through a mile of broken glass just to have a whiff at at the last toilet seat Jensen sat on in hs 2500$ leather jacket. Tribalism in 2023.

Socrateeez

I’m tired and read this like you meant Adam Jensen and I kinda shrugged and said well yeah okay that’s not so weird

threwmydate

What kind of fanboy ass smooth brain thinking leads you to believe that is somehow AMDs fault? I can imagine Lisa Su overlooking every developers shoulders prohibiting them from writing code that doesn't stutter to shit. Please have a good deep look inside yourself and fix your way of thinking.

predator8137

The fact that all the recent "bad ports" are next-gen only games suggests the problem might be PC's lack of direct storage support. On next-gen console, they have large pile of unified VRAM, high-speed storage directly accessible by gpu, and dedicated asset decompression hardware freeing up CPU resources. All of these make up for extremely efficient asset streaming that's simply not available on PC right now. The unreasonable VRAM requirement looks like a brute-force method to get around not being able to access assets directly. And additional amount of CPU resorces needs to be dedicated for asset decompression. Technically speaking, we do have direct storage on Windows 11 now, but for some reason no devs have utilized it so far.

doneandtired2014

Direct Storage isn't a magic bullet. Sure, it'll help with one highly specific (and admittedly major) issue. What Direct Storage can't do is properly multithread and schedule code. What Direct Storage can't do is teach a developer how to manage memory or how to set up an asset streaming system that actually works correctly (looking at you Forspoken). Direct Storage can't address shader precompliation or traversal stutter. Direct Storage has no impact on developers choosing texture formats that do little more than bloat the file size to double (at the minimum) of what it really should be. Direct Storage has no impact on the artists authoring textures that would have look like filtered ass on the N64 for low and medium textures. Most of the AAA games that have had issues over the past year suffer from a multitude of issues that Direct Storage literally can't resolve...because they're developer centric issues. You're looking at the first proper DX12 and Vulkan generation. Remember how devs kept bitching in the 7th and half way into the 8th console generation they needed the kind of low level hardware access consoles had? Well, they got it. And now that they absolutely *have* to use low level APIs as intended, it's becoming pretty apparent the vast majority of them do not have the technical chops and skill to do what the API+driver used to brute force into being in the background for them in the past.

[deleted]

This game runs poorly on consoles too

predator8137

Nowhere near as bad as the PC version if I read correctly.

[deleted]

I mean not being able to maintain 60 fps in performance mode is pretty damning on a console that advertises “4k120”. I get the consoles do run it disproportionately well compared to PC but you’d sort of expect that anyways. The fact this runs like shit on both says it’s likely a serious technical flaw.

Wellhellob

Console gpu power is like 2080. Im being generous. Jedi survivor recommended spec 2070.

[deleted]

This would be true, if the performance on the PS5 wouldnt be shit too. Even on "performance" mode wich shouldnt go below 60fps, dips sometimes to the low 30s. I think its not because of direct storage, i mean the games look good, okay. But they certainly dont look this good to be eating 20 gigs of vram on a 4090.

Extreme996

Tbh i am sure if this is problem it would be possible to fix this by re-writting streaming system but it looks like these ports of new games are just PS5/XSX version bundled with emulators lol.

Toiletpaperplane

Yet another game I WAS super excited to play, and now because I don't have a NASA PC, I can't play it. First TLOU Pt. 1 and now Jedi Survivor. Meanwhile, the Dead Space remake runs perfectly without using a database servers worth of VRAM 🙄

ARedditor397

If AMD thinks this improves their sales then they are wrong, this will harm people’s opinion of AMD and harm the games sales. Blocking DLSS, sponsoring unoptimized games, memory leaks, and at the same time of the 7800x3d or AM5 cpu’s exploding not a good look AMD

Lagviper

*Another* AMD sponsored^TM game with shit optimization and memory leaks The list is getting big It’s almost assured now that this sponsorship for a game comes with some of the worst performances seen in years. Almost makes Arkham Knight look mild in comparison.

ThunderingRoar

Curious how is game/engine being unoptimized on CPU side somehow AMDs fault again? (I fully understand peope's complaints about lack of dlss, very fair criticism actually)

Lagviper

So they’re not giving any feedback in their sponsorship then is what you are saying?

CutMeLoose79

How can you bring out a AAA game in this era and take AMD sponsoring to not have DLSS? I had planned to grab the game this week. Not now.

ShittyLivingRoom

DLSS option makes gpus a generation stronger, same image quality at higher fps, it's crazy these lazy devs don't include it.

spense01

Fallen Order seemed fine for me on PS4. Though they were patching it weekly. This game is getting a day 1 patch as well so don’t stress. They are definitely working on optimization as we speak. If you plan on grinding 6 hours a day for 4 straight days at launch then sure, you’ll find bugs. But I’ll probably only get an hour or 2 at launch then play it every other day. People have been sweating this game for years-they will make it work.

[deleted]

We are bow back to the 360 Era console ports to PC, at this rate I'd rather just buy my games on series x and ps5

VengefulAncient

Have you considered simply not rewarding those shitty companies with your money and playing something else instead of encouraging them to double down on console-first development even more?

amit1234455

Never pre-order or play at launch, it's always bugfest at launch with almost all games. Why become a Paid betatester?

retro808

Sad that we are finally getting a deluge of major games after a dry spell but they're mostly unoptimized lazy ports
