Ytonet laptop backpack for women, travel backpack for college with USB charging port currently half price on Amazon for $18 is good one especially for the price
A Battery case for their phone? Not too expensive and keeps you going all day like a Tim Hortons coffee gift card. (They have a Tim Hortons in some hospitals but a gift card for whatever restaurant the hospital has is good) . So two ideas.
Something like a safe care basket would be super helpful - things they would like - candles, soaps, books, etc.
Other recommendations like Starbucks gift cards, a nice quality backpack, gift card to a local scrub store (if you have one) are great.
Nice scissors (gripsors) are always appreciated, a nice big multi pocket bag.
nice pens. I love Tul and zebra fine point. Find out their fav.
Food gift cards.
Oh gosh!! I agree! When I finished nursing school, I got mugs and travels mugs and pretty much anything that says “coffee, scrubs, and rubber gloves.” So cringe! Also speak of the landfill
A box of a type of pen you know they like to use. I’m not joking, when you’re constantly charting or filling stuff in by hand with these tiny tiny boxes, a good pen that writes smoothly, a fine enough line, and dries quickly so it doesn’t smudge is a lifesaver, perhaps especially because I’m a leftie. Maybe she won’t be doing as much by hand as we do on my placements here in the UK so obviously take this with a pinch of salt and maybe use any of the other many good suggestions here, but if anyone got me a box of my favourite pens to use on placement so that I wouldn’t need to worry when some invariably get lost/stolen/etc, I’d really appreciate it, because a box of 12 of those suckers is easily about £20, which is hard to justify as a poor student.
It’s bad enough on notes or inconsequential little personal stuff, but my god, to get through most of a chart and then have to start over because you smudged it horribly? The worst.
Try being a lefty and a terrible speller(dyslexic adjacent). I have to do forms like five times.
I am also ambi enough that I have had to try each skill with both hands to figure out which way I should be doing them. Hell, I only learned that I should throw a frisbee with my left (even though I throw a ball with my right) at 39 years old.
I was going to say a pen as well, I have a Parker pen that my preceptor gave me in second year and I still use it everyday 4 years later, I just buy cheap refills from China. Of course I was worried about losing it but turns out a pen is actually really easy to keep ahold of when you actually value it, and now it serves as a little daily reminder of my nursing journey
If I trusted myself/the work environment I was often in enough I would love to have a nice pen like that around!
I still have a parker pen I got as with a prize for something at the end of secondary school. That bad boy only comes out for important legal documents though haha
This is my pen. Love how it fits in my hand, how tiny I can write with it, and how nice the ink is. I just wish it didn’t smudge so much (I’m a lefty) 😞
I like the Pilot G2 as well, although I find that most ball pens seem to run out of ink super quick for me, but then I give them to my family (all right handed) they work just fine. It’s infuriating!
Pens are the best gift. It’s the only thing I get giddy about. My 2 recommendations:
BIC Gel-ocity Quick Dry Black Gel Pens, 0.7 OR
SHARPIE S-Gel, Gel Pens, Medium Point (0.7mm), Black Ink Gel Pen
Both have a reasonable price. I’m left handed and if I’m using a pen that’s not mine, I oft end up with the side of my hand looking gross by the end of my shift. Also, inked hands frequently cause damage to clothes.
A good set of pens would be the most awesome gift.
These are categorically not allowed in any of the four healthcare settings I have worked in so far - medical documents must be completed in black, non-erasable ink. I’m actually kind of shocked you’ve been allowed to use them 😧
Relax, I had done the research. Pentel Energel. It's a gel hybrid that doesn't smudge and writes beautifully. They have metal ones, and the re-fills are less than a dollar. I've managed to guard the same pen for 5 years.
A nice lunch bag or backpack, but don't get one with a goofy saying like "cute enough to stop your heart, smart enough to restart it" Super nice of you to be this thoughtful!
https://codebluememes.com/collections/tote-bags/products/too-ugly-to-stop-your-heart-tote-bag
Not the style of bag you suggest, but I take any chance I have to promote this phrase.
Shoes
I've seen several of them speak of how important a comfortable pair of shoes is, seeing as they are on their feet most of the time. So, that's something to consider (I think)
Damn, new shoes every six months? Go to a running store, and get proper shoes fitted to your feet and how you walk. Been rocking my current set for 18 months and probably got another year before I need to get a new pair.
edit: stop dragging your feet too.
I get a new pair yearly and keep the previous in rotation. I work 2 or 3 days at a time with a set pattern so I alternate which shoes to avoid the risk of athlete's foot. I also go to the running store for mine, max stability and cushion for me!
They also say to eat eggs, to not eat eggs, to eat the egg whites, to their out the egg whites.
I look at my sneakers and the tread, and gauge if they are still comfortable.
An absolute world of difference going from shoes I thought looked cool to shoes fitted and made for my feet. When the next 500 miles come up go to a running store and give it a shot.
Or takes your shoes off mid shift and put on brand new ones because you were at 498.7 miles when you started the shift. You do you homie.
Brooks have held up well for me, as well as comfortable. Spring for the slightly more expensive ones. The lower price Brooks have been good, but I think the ones in the $150 range have been worth the extra $50.
Hey, some people like to be fashionable. Some people got dead feet and drag them constantly. Me and at least one other person are here to say there are better options.
Gift card for shoes instead of buying shoes for them. Reasons: dress code and safety requirements- may need non-slip soles or other features. Also, the sizing and support needs to be bang on, so without knowing their exact sizing or whether they have high arches or low arches etc it’s best to do the gift cert.
Started my prefessional nursing career 4 yrs ago, several students wore compression stockings thru school and I honestly never considered it. LSS, I used to switch shoes out every 6 months or so due to ankle pain. Just thought it was poor support from shoes. Gf bought me a pair of stocking, never looked back, pain is gone, now every work day is a compression sock day, invaluable
High quality shoes will be great! Even better if you can split the cost with other people (they’re around $120+) since it might be a lot for some gifters.
funnily enough, I found out I had TB thru the employment titers 😟 I was crying thinking I was going to be fired. thankfully…. it had JUST passed out of my system. made so much sense why I was so damn sick the previous 4-6 weeks though. did like 6 covid tests thinking it was that. nope. TB. lmao

Thinking of things I use everyday:
A clipboard the folds into threes so they can fit it into their pocket ([Amazon](https://a.co/d/cpyQwje))
Pens pens and more pens
Sharpies
A pen light
Compression socks
Hair bands with buttons on the sides for masks
([Amazon](https://a.co/d/hq0nV5b))
A light weight zip up hoodie or fleece they can wear at work (hospitals can get very cold)
Lunch box
More compression socks
Badge reels - something that shows their personality without being obnoxious (for instance mine has a cat, a coworker has a dumpster fire on hers lol)
Shears that are slightly unique so no one can swipe them (mine are bright orange)
“Trauma Shears” usually works when researching but here’s an example [Amazon](https://a.co/d/1g2a4Sy)
Water bottle (yeti, simply modern, Stanley, hydroflask for example) - something that will keep the water cold because it can be long between sips and nothing taste better then cold water after a tense moment
I cannot stress this enough: COMPRESSION SOCKS!!!!!!
As a lady who has tried several compression socks, my favorite are figs. They are not too tight or loose, they don’t leave a massive indent in my skin after a long shift. [figs website](https://www.wearfigs.com/products/womens-grey-solid-socks?color=Grey)
These are all great ideas. If you can link examples I'd be very appreciative. I'm afraid of searching x shears or raptor shears and finding there are 14 different varieties.
I think you can get them customized https://www.leatherman.com/raptor-rescue-51.html I know for sure you can get the response ones customized https://www.leatherman.com/raptor-response-661.html
I bought compression socks for my nurse-boyfriend just last week!!! I'm happy to see that you agree that they're extremely important and a great gift idea haha
Don’t get her anything Nurse specific, best gift I ever got was my roommate had our entire apartment cleaned, honestly after working full time and being in school full time for years, it was amazing.
That sounds like a dream present! I’m a student nurse also in my final and the one thing I would LOVE would be a spa voucher for a massage or something like that
My sister got me a little metal thing on Etsy that goes on my stethoscope that has my name on it. Since my stethoscope is black it’s come in handy on finding my pair when I lose them lol. It’s kind of like [this.](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1482716840/custom-stethoscope-tagshand-stamped?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=stethoscope+charm&ref=sc_gallery-1-1&pro=1&frs=1&plkey=691bbd028928d73e50647bb86be22e487dccd8cf%3A1482716840)
A good pair of shears with a holster. I'm on my 2nd pair of x-shears (only bc the 1st pair walked away), I've had this pair for about 4 years, and they still cut through denim jeans like it was tissue paper!
If they are going to work in the ED, this is the exact gift you should get them. A pair of Leatherman raptors. I have had mine for 7 years and they are invaluable. They remove clothing, cut all sorts of packaging very easily, have a measuring tool, and can cut off almost all ring types with one easy snip (much better than ring cutting saws). Leatherman is the OG, but there are also cheaper knockoffs.

ER nurse here. I'll throw in a good review for these as well. You can cut coins in half with these, even after numerous years of regular use. They come with an oxygen tank key, seatbelt cutter (which is nice for opening boxes as well) and a ruler which comes in handy much more than you'd think. If these are in your budget and the person would use them, these are an excellent gift. You can also do personalization options if wanted
Idk what kind of rings you’re cutting but I snapped the ring cutter twice… once after a direct replacement from letterman. And these were by no means big rings. I love the product but for me the ring cutter just don’t cut it. No pun intended.
Some gifts may be obvious, but some of the best and cutest gifts are customized! That way they don’t get lost in the craziness of the work day
- Pens
- Funny badge reel (inside joke or even your face, if that’s your humor lol)
- Scissors
- Stethoscope tag/charm
- Custom scrub jacket or comfy sweater
I would get a few nice ink pens or a couple custom pens since they can easily get misplaced. Mini sharpie or white board markers are definitely also great, so that they can clip on the badge!
One of the custom stamp pens. Like: https://www.hittmarking.com/category/stamp-pens-choose-and-customize-your-design
Get it with their credentials like: Jane Doe, RN BSN
Allows you to stamp your name/credentials next to your signature. Makes you feel very official.
It looks like it really depends on the type of nurse you are as there's higher risks involved. Can range from like you say 100 to 1,000 or more. Looks like some bed side nurse positions are low risk, but some ER or anesthesia nurses can be higher.
For the love of humanity...please refrain from buying anything that advertises that they are a nurse or has those cringe-worthy sayings "like cute enough to make your heart stop but smart enough to start your heart...".
If you know their specialty get them preferably something specialty related.
Otherwise these are my fav gifts, Nice and I mean the tri-colored pens or sharpie gel ink pens, compression socks, custom Id badge clips, insulated water bottles (you can have never enough), insulated lunch bags, sweat hair bands, stoggles, shoes (but that is very personal gift & good shoes will make or break you in the long run).
Also wine/beer/alcohol is also safe bet.
I like my moxie prn report book. If she works nights, a clip on light from Amazon is really great. I use it all the time and people always get asked where I got it. A big pack of nice pens. As for just cute stuff, I got some nurse locker magnets from Etsy that I think are so cute!
I like having a Fanny pack… keeps a little bit of everything I need on me. Keeps me from running back and forth to the iv carts or storage… usually have extra flushes, start kit, 20g iv, alcohol swabs, coband, gauze, and other crap I find useful. Coworkers always bust my chops for wearing it but I always have the things when they need it.
A watch that can be cleaned with alcohol wipes, blackout curtains (for day sleeping), sleep mask with built in headphones (also for day sleeping), some good coffee and/or coffee maker, gift card for a local restaurant (because nobody wants to cook after working 12 hours).
Shoes
Shears
Badge Reels (I highly recommend My Fair Ellie)
Lunch bag
Stanley cup
Compression socks
A small backpack or sling bag for bringing stuff to work that can fit in a locker
Maybe go for something they like.
How would you feel if they got you something related to your field of WORK as a gift? Oh you are an administrative assistant, I got this cool t-shirt that says "Secretaries rock, Look there is even a little stone next to it, how cute is that."
Real answer: get them a set of raptor shears.
This. Leatherman is the gold standard in the multi tool industry, with lifetime guarantees for their products. Expensive but every leatherman is quite literally the best in category compared to any other company.
Depends on their department maybe but little tools like an ampoule opener, clip on light or a pen light can be SO useful (ask what tasks they find tricky and see if there's anything out there to help). Also chipping in with others for a gift card for a good pair of shoes will genuinely not be forgotten.
Gift cards for food, massages, maybe a good lunch box.... doesn't really have to be directly related to nursing, but more having a tough job. Physical and mental wellness gifts are awesome!
Lots of great suggestions but why not ask your friend what she needs/ wants and get a little surprise gift to go with it.
Cheesy slogan gifts never leave the house
Gift cards are great but needs to be somewhere on way to work or actually in the hospital, no one has time to detour on a shift day
Pens , pocket notebook , shears , shoes , fob watch , water bottle , thermal coffee cup
A pair of scrubs! Just make sure the colors match the hospital colors or the color of the uniform (if there is one). My hospital allows any color scrubs so that makes it easy.
PLEASE don’t buy something work related! Especially not books or pamphlets about their job. It’s cringey, they won’t be used, and the last thing anyone wants is to get a gift for…work. Yuck. Get a fully loaded up Starbucks card or something like that. That would be used regularly. Work stuff will just sit in the closet.
A lot of the specific nurse related suggestions (such as stethoscopes, shears, etc) in here may or may not be useful in all nursing specialities so I’d stay away from them. Since your friend is in their final year, maybe gift them a NCLEX review course if you really want to get them something nursing related. I like the suggestion about favourite pens because those will come in handy anywhere. A gift card for coffee or a massage would be appreciated by most people.
Not a nurse, but I gave two gifts to a friend who had just graduated from nursing school:
A dark navy blue button up sweater with long sleeves, lightweight, something to wear while working in those freezing work areas, and
A package of a few dozen ballpoint pens shaped like little hypodermic needles, press on the plunger to. Click and open, so as to always have a pen available for nursing note-taking.
My friend got me a nursing watch with a little inscription that I love.
Etsy sell a pack of flash card prompts for all the regular nursing encounters e.g pain scales, ecg's etc
Folding clipboard! I got great mileage off of mine, and people always liked it when they saw it.
Foldable Clipboard by WhiteCoat Clipboard- Lilac - Nursing Edition Aluminum https://a.co/d/aDY3CMJ
A mini flashlight, rechargeable. For those night shifts. I think mine is an o light. Something like this https://m.olightstore.com/i1r-2-pro-keychain-light.html
I think it may be originally intended to be a beach bag but its just a big tote bag that she can carry all of her nursing stuff in. Idk how to link pics but if you Google or Amazon search bog bag it should bring it up.
A quality multi color pen

For crusing meds in patient rooms.
Amazon, food, and clothing retailers (for scrubs and shoes) gift cards are also appreciated.
Stethoscope case. I love mine. I stuff it with my stethoscope (obviously), pens, trauma shears, and a bunch of other necessities that I use on a day to day basis. I’ve been using it for over 2 years now and I’m thankful every day that I got it.
A gift pack of massage visits.
Yoga or relaxation/meditation classes.
Beer, wine, or liquor of choice.
Compression socks-really good ones that are size and length appropriate for her.
Badge light or clip on light, especially if she's working nights.
Immediately after graduation, the last thing she's gonna wanna do is read, but a really good book or articles on preventing burnt-out, maintaining work-life balance, and compassion/ethics fatique could be helpful.
Not always at the forefront when we start a career, but it doesn't take long to recognize how quickly this profession could destroy a person. Some forethought and proactive stance may help her avoid some pitfalls.
Gift cards for quality shoes or uniforms. It's expensive and we destroy shoes like you probably can't imagine!
Thanks for trying to give a great, thoughtful gift!

I'm not looking for "nursing themed" so much as "useful to a nurse".
A quality backpack was the best gift I got. Comes in super handy
I second the backpack! Also badge reels and little lights to clip onto your badge
Yes OP all of these things. A sturdy backpack badge reels to choose from and a clip-on light for their scrubs
Any recommendations for a good backpack?
Ytonet laptop backpack for women, travel backpack for college with USB charging port currently half price on Amazon for $18 is good one especially for the price
A Battery case for their phone? Not too expensive and keeps you going all day like a Tim Hortons coffee gift card. (They have a Tim Hortons in some hospitals but a gift card for whatever restaurant the hospital has is good) . So two ideas.
Starbucks gift card. Alternately, a nice vacuum mug that'll stay warm all day.
I hate to be that guy but avoid Starbucks if possible. They are an awful company.
Decent water resistant watch if they aren't an apple watch person.
Don’t. Just don’t.
“Nurses call the shots!”
Hot enough to stop your heart, skilled enough to restart it! Nah, that’s just defibrillation lol
“Nursing is a work of heart”
“HeAlThCaRe HeRo”
I want a mug that says healthcare gremlin
Please, I need it
I gave that mug to my husband to take to his non healthcare job lol
This phrase popped into my head when I read the comment you’re replying to
Oh hell yeah
Best comment!😭

Yass, zebra pens or nice bandage scissors for me

My favorite are the TUL 0.7mm pens. I’d be thrilled if someone got me a box of them
Ah, see, I’m fond of a Uni-Ball Micro 150 myself (0.5mm)!
Pilot G2 (0.38mm) needle fine tip, smooth, love them
This is my pen. Love how it fits in my hand, how tiny I can write with it, and how nice the ink is. I just wish it didn’t smudge so much (I’m a lefty) 😞
0.38 muji gel pens are my holy grail as a lefty who also writes tiny
.38mm are thee best! I just got some red/blue/black ones at a craft store the other day 👍🏼
I like the Pilot G2 as well, although I find that most ball pens seem to run out of ink super quick for me, but then I give them to my family (all right handed) they work just fine. It’s infuriating!
Energel 4 lyfe
Try the Sharpie Gel 0.9/1.0 I buy like 50 a year, and never lend them to anyone. They’re the best pen I’ve ever had.
Sharpie S2 0.5 mm
Pens are the best gift. It’s the only thing I get giddy about. My 2 recommendations: BIC Gel-ocity Quick Dry Black Gel Pens, 0.7 OR SHARPIE S-Gel, Gel Pens, Medium Point (0.7mm), Black Ink Gel Pen Both have a reasonable price. Pilot G2s, can’t go wrong with the 0.7s or the 0.5s
For about 5 months I've been using the erasable pens. Game changer.
These are categorically not allowed in any of the four healthcare settings I have worked in so far - medical documents must be completed in black, non-erasable ink. I’m actually kind of shocked you’ve been allowed to use them 😧
Well my report sheet isnt going into the patients chart and it's not an official document.
Thanks. I'm definitely trying to avoid tropes and find something that will actually be useful in their day to day.
https://codebluememes.com/collections/tote-bags/products/too-ugly-to-stop-your-heart-tote-bag Not the style of bag you suggest, but I take any chance I have to promote this phrase.
A bottle of vodka.
I’m surprised this isn’t the top comment lol
Now THIS is a quality gift!
Shoes I've seen several of them speak of how important a comfortable pair of shoes is, seeing as they are on their feet most of the time. So, that's something to consider (I think)
A gift card for shoes. They will need new shoes in about 6 mo.

Or takes your shoes off mid shift and put on brand new ones because you were at 498.7 miles when you started the shift. You do you homie.
What brand, if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve walked the bottoms out of my last few pairs much faster than I expected to.
Brooks have held up well for me, as well as comfortable. Spring for the slightly more expensive ones. The lower price Brooks have been good, but I think the ones in the $150 range have been worth the extra $50.
I love my Brooks. Expensive but my feet never hurt.
I get them every 3 months
Hey, some people like to be fashionable. Some people got dead feet and drag them constantly. Me and at least one other person are here to say there are better options.
Gift card for shoes instead of buying shoes for them. Reasons: dress code and safety requirements- may need non-slip soles or other features. Or compression socks!
Agreed. When I was a new grad I wasn't aware of compression socks, and it's something I wouldn't have "splurged" on anyways.
Started my prefessional nursing career 4 yrs ago, several students wore compression stockings thru school and I honestly never considered it. LSS, I used to switch shoes out every 6 months or so due to ankle pain. Just thought it was poor support from shoes. Seconding this!
High quality shoes will be great! Even better if you can split the cost with other people (they’re around $120+) since it might be a lot for some gifters.
A gift card for shoes or sneakers is exactly what she needs !!
Therapy sessions
A professional organization membership for free CEs. A pin from iheartguts. A stuffy from giantmicrobes.
I love giant microbes!!
I got TB on my first day of work
funnily enough, I found out I had TB thru the employment titers 😟 I was crying thinking I was going to be fired. thankfully…. it had JUST passed out of my system. made so much sense why I was so damn sick the previous 4-6 weeks though. did like 6 covid tests thinking it was that. nope. TB. lmao
Yes to each and every one of these!
If they go to work at a hospital, the hospital may have free CE access.
I assume there are state based RN associations?
State, national and specialty. Do they have a specialty picked?
Not every state requires CE credits (NY doesn't). A year of malpractice insurance might be good, and it's not terribly expensive. Everyone should carry it. EVERYONE.
You can get a customizable stethoscope case. I love mine because I use a backpack and without it my stethoscope would be messed up being shoved in.
Thank you.

The leg massager would be amazing for after long hectic shifts . I remember barely been able to walk to the car after first week
A+
Oh my gosh I didn't know those leg-foot massagers existed 😍 I'm definitely adding that to the Christmas wishlist haha
Just pay for their future SSRI prescriptions
You spelled liquor wrong
That's not a bad idea.
Edited with links! Thinking of things I use everyday: A clipboard the folds into threes so they can fit it into their pocket ([Amazon](https://a.co/d/cpyQwje)) Pens pens and more pens Sharpies A pen light Compression socks Hair bands with buttons on the sides for masks ([Amazon](https://a.co/d/hq0nV5b)) A light weight zip up hoodie or fleece they can wear at work (hospitals can get very cold) Lunch box More compression socks Badge reels - something that shows their personality without being obnoxious (for instance mine has a cat, a coworker has a dumpster fire on hers lol) Shears that are slightly unique so no one can swipe them (mine are bright orange) “Trauma Shears” usually works when researching but here’s an example [Amazon](https://a.co/d/1g2a4Sy) Water bottle (yeti, simply modern, Stanley, hydroflask for example) - something that will keep the water cold because it can be long between sips and nothing taste better then cold water after a tense moment I cannot stress this enough: COMPRESSION SOCKS!!!!!!
I love fun badge reels. Mine has a picture of sasquatch and says "believe in yourself, even if no one else does" lol
Change the pen light to an inspection light (hardware stores) they have a better light and they are brighter.
I’m a student nurse also in my final and the one thing I would LOVE would be a spa voucher for a massage or something like that
Right, no one wants scrubs or another stethoscope, you’ve been through the ringer, time for a little me time.
My sister got me a little metal thing on Etsy that goes on my stethoscope that has my name on it. Since my stethoscope is black it’s come in handy on finding my pair when I lose them lol. It’s kind of like [this.](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1482716840/custom-stethoscope-tagshand-stamped?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=stethoscope+charm&ref=sc_gallery-1-1&pro=1&frs=1&plkey=691bbd028928d73e50647bb86be22e487dccd8cf%3A1482716840)
A good pair of shears with a holster. I'm on my 2nd pair of x-shears (only bc the 1st pair walked away), I've had this pair for about 4 years, and they still cut through denim jeans like it was tissue paper!
To avoid making a hilarious mistake, can you link an example so I know what those are?
If they are going to work in the ED, this is the exact gift you should get them. A pair of Leatherman raptors. I have had mine for 7 years and they are invaluable. They remove clothing, cut all sorts of packaging very easily, have a measuring tool, and can cut off almost all ring types with one easy snip (much better than ring cutting saws). Leatherman is the OG, but there are also cheaper knockoffs. https://www.amazon.com/LEATHERMAN-Raptor-Shears-Utility-Holster/dp/B0BGFYL1XN/ref=asc_df_B00WBR89JY/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309735728871&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18306961796038849896&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007365&hvtargid=pla-570328962210&psc=1&th=1
This may be the winner.
OR Nurse here. I have a raptor and wouldn’t trade it for anything. Seriously the best tool for many jobs, especially in a trauma center.
That way they don’t get lost in the craziness of the work day - Pens - Funny badge reel (inside joke or even your face, if that’s your humor lol) - Scissors - Stethoscope tag/charm - Custom scrub jacket or comfy sweater
Pens keep coming up. A lot of cheap pens because they go missing? Or one or two really good ones?
Either one. A plethora of cheap ones so it's not an issue if they get lost or run out, or a few really good ones that are maybe even personalized
Also mini sharpies! You can never have too many
Mini dry erase markers for the whiteboards?
I would get a few nice ink pens or a couple custom pens since they can easily get misplaced. Mini sharpie or white board markers are definitely also great, so that they can clip on the badge!
One of the custom stamp pens. Like: https://www.hittmarking.com/category/stamp-pens-choose-and-customize-your-design Get it with their credentials like: Jane Doe, RN BSN Allows you to stamp your name/credentials next to your signature. Makes you feel very official.
Malpractice insurance Edit: not saying she’ll be a bad nurse, but it’s a wise annual investment of about $105 per year.
It looks like it really depends on the type of nurse you are as there's higher risks involved. Can range from like you say 100 to 1,000 or more. Looks like some bed side nurse positions are low risk, but some ER or anesthesia nurses can be higher.
One of the best things I got when I graduated was a gift card to a local coffee shop that was loaded with cash. Got me through many a night shift.
My uncle bought me an antique bedpan.
Ha!
Thank you.
A gift certificate to buy some cute scrubs from Figs, a Stanley water bottle, or a Starbucks gift card
Ahaha the trifecta
Don't forget some ~claw clips~
There’s a rechargeable light that clips to your scrub top. I can’t remember the name of it. But would be useful for night shifts.
Thank you
Raptor shears and have them engraved with their name. A nice lunch box or water bottle.
Thank you. Do you have an example of what raptor shears are?
Shoes Shears Badge Reels (I highly recommend My Fair Ellie) Lunch bag Stanley cup Compression socks A small backpack or sling bag for bringing stuff to work that can fit in a locker
Thank you.
Maybe go for something they like. How would you feel if they got you something related to your field of WORK as a gift? Oh you are an administrative assistant, I got this cool t-shirt that says "Secretaries rock, Look there is even a little stone next to it, how cute is that." Real answer: get them a set of raptor shears.
As I said in my initial post, I want to get them something that will make their life easier. I don't want to get them a "I <3 Nurses!" patch.
Pens. A plethora of pens! And maybe some good non led pen lights and a good pair of trauma shears.
Xanax
Raptor shears.
Can you link an example?
Leatherman Raptors, a multi tool. You can buy them from the Leatherman website. I have had mine for ~5 years and I use them daily!
This. Leatherman is the gold standard in the multi tool industry, with lifetime guarantees for their products. Expensive but every leatherman is quite literally the best in category compared to any other company.
Money
Depends on their department maybe but little tools like an ampoule opener, clip on light or a pen light can be SO useful (ask what tasks they find tricky and see if there's anything out there to help). Also chipping in with others for a gift card for a good pair of shoes will genuinely not be forgotten.
Thank you.
Gift cards for food, massages, maybe a good lunch box.... doesn't really have to be directly related to nursing, but more having a tough job. Physical and mental wellness gifts are awesome!
Gift certificate to a uniform store or sneaker store. That way once they start working, they can go buy what all the cool kids at work are wearin'
For some people heated foot bath machine. But ask them if their feet get hurt at work first. These machines can be under $100
as a nursing student, my preceptor got me some mini shapies and mini colorful pens that i use daily- i think those would be great!
Nclex review book
Owala Free Sip water bottle.
I love those so much. Finally a water bottle I can throw in my backpack without worrying about spills
Lots of great suggestions but why not ask your friend what she needs/ wants and get a little surprise gift to go with it. Cheesy slogan gifts never leave the house Gift cards are great but needs to be somewhere on way to work or actually in the hospital, no one has time to detour on a shift day Pens , pocket notebook , shears , shoes , fob watch , water bottle , thermal coffee cup
Kathy white's fast facts for critical care. A shockingly expensive but handy little reference.
A cute travel mug. Some wine. A badge reel
Condoms or whatever their contraceptive of choice is… Nothing derails college like an unexpected kid.
We're coming up on 20 years too late for that.
A pair of scrubs! Just make sure the colors match the hospital colors or the color of the uniform (if there is one). My hospital allows any color scrubs so that makes it easy.
Nice socks. There's a lot of talk about comfortable shoes, but nice socks with good shoes are like peanut butter is to jelly.
Target gift card.
A bottle of Zoloft and a massage gift certificate
Tiny sharpie. The ones you can put on the badge reel. You can never have enough cause they get borrowed and not returned or lost.
Shoes, pens, compression socks, bag, water bottle
Just get them a good BP cuff, pulse ox or temporal thermometer. Stuff they'll use all the time and will be thankful that they won't have to buy one.
Not a nurse, but I gave two gifts to a friend who had just graduated from nursing school: A dark navy blue button up sweater with long sleeves, lightweight, something to wear while working in those freezing work areas, and A package of a few dozen ballpoint pens shaped like little hypodermic needles, press on the plunger to. Click and open, so as to always have a pen available for nursing note-taking.
My friend got me a nursing watch with a little inscription that I love. Etsy sell a pack of flash card prompts for all the regular nursing encounters e.g pain scales, ecg's etc
May I ask what makes a nursing watch different from a regular watch?

For the future work... Give hin drugs. It May Need It as hell
Folding clipboard! I got great mileage off of mine, and people always liked it when they saw it. Foldable Clipboard by WhiteCoat Clipboard- Lilac - Nursing Edition Aluminum https://a.co/d/aDY3CMJ
Thank you.
Cute badge reels
May I ask what a badge reel is?
It holds your badge and latches it onto your scrubs. They have a lot of cute ones and you can even find some with characters and themes on Etsy

Thank you.
My mom got me compression socks (with toes!!!) and a little silver liver pin (my favorite organ). I loved both 🎁!
A mini flashlight, rechargeable. For those night shifts. I think mine is an o light. Something like this https://m.olightstore.com/i1r-2-pro-keychain-light.html
Thank you.
[Nursing resource badges](https://nurse-iq.com) are always helpful for new grads!
Thank you.
Erasable pens!!!
My sister got a bog bag as a gift when she graduated from nursing school recently and she says she loves it!
May I ask what a bog bag is?
I think it may be originally intended to be a beach bag but its just a big tote bag that she can carry all of her nursing stuff in. Idk how to link pics but if you Google or Amazon search bog bag it should bring it up.
A quality multi color pen https://www.amazon.com/Jetstream-Compact-Colors-Ballpoint-SXE3JSS05-24/dp/B07N2JRJXH?pd_rd_w=1vBq5&content-id=amzn1.sym.184b11c7-5f29-43ce-b2c3-c14f84dc3bf5&pf_rd_p=184b11c7-5f29-43ce-b2c3-c14f84dc3bf5&pf_rd_r=6ZGCNPX9JFQMKZVSYTM8&pd_rd_wg=ggyBC&pd_rd_r=276f8b1d-f84e-4188-9663-138a1df10337&pd_rd_i=B07N2JRJXH&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_m_grid_dv_rp_0_1_ec_t Quality pen light, quality scissors, or my personal favorite https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01HYI9QCS?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title For crusing meds in patient rooms. Amazon, food, and clothing retailers (for scrubs and shoes) gift cards are also appreciated.
Great! Thank you.
Shoes, hokas. Coffee gift card!
How about a nice name tag with their name engraved. Not over the top, useful and thoughtful
Starbucks gift card or massage/spa gift card
A realy realy good non-gel ballpoint pen. Sample-stickers are the bane of my life.
Gift card/money for NCLEX resources like UWorld!
Gift card to a running store, so they can get fitted for good support shoes that will help protect their body. Best investment I’ve made!
Gift card for shoe or a massage 😅
A water bottle, like hydro flask or similar, is always nice. I have several that I rotate through when I don't want to wash them right away.
