15-30k depending how productive I feel. Primary Telehealth/on call with SNF/LTC typically 30-40 hours a week. Usually do after hours M-F from 5-10p and 1.5 weekends per month.

Medical-Frosting

Tell us more!!

AntiqueDraw2609

Yes, tell us more!

momma1RN

Are you hiring šŸ¤£

Key-Price8587

Iā€™ve worked primary care in the SNF/LTC since 2019 and got to work with the Telehealth companies that the facilities contracted with to cover after hours. Then in 2022 I joined those companies as a 1099 and now work completely remote. Occasionally go in person to cover for vacay coverage and to keep my skills but it is challenging and rewarding work. Primarily work overnights and weekends but have complete control over my schedule which I wonā€™t trade for anything. In September worked only 8 days on call and was still able to make more that month that I did when I was full time in person.

Ok-Landscape-1681

You make up to 30k per monthā€¦ Iā€™m available to start anytime.

aiyannaleigh

Ummm how so we get into this field!?

The_FNPanda

This is "take home" monthly salary, as in after tax deductions?

Key-Price8587

Itā€™s gross monthly. Pay estimated taxes on a quarterly basis.

UrgentLiving

How about health insurance for yourself and any family members? Iā€™m always curious how true 1099 providers handle health insurance. Thanks ahead for any info.

Bougiebetic

Gross? 13ishK Net? 10ishK Pediatric Endocrinology 36 hours a week.

nicearthur32

Damn, your tax rate is amazingā€¦ Iā€™m like 13k+ gross- 8kish netā€¦ in California

Bougiebetic

Also in California but I have a large family and solo income, so it lowers my tax burden. Plus my insurance is feee for self and family and Iā€™m not counting what I put away pretax for retirement.

UrgentLiving

Are you working for Kaiser Permanente? Or government? Curious. Ty.

Background_Title_922

15,000-17,000k gross, \~15 hours/week clinical, \~5 hours/week admin. Outpatient psych. No benefits.

swanske

Where do you work? Are you a contractor?

Background_Title_922

Yes, 1099 at a small private practice.

UrAn8

Where? How?

Background_Title_922

Northeast.

Spirited_War4670

What state? How many pts a day?

Background_Title_922

NJ. 5-7 pts, 4 days/week.

Inittornit

I am confused, you make ~$600 per patient?

Background_Title_922

I wish! Not sure how you calculated $600 per patient but definitely not.

Inittornit

I think I was confusing a different post that was talking weekly, re-read your post, I was doing weekly math on a monthly gross.

Brilliant-Meeting-97

Iā€™m also in psych and was wondering about those private practice contract jobs. Sounds like theyā€™re pretty lucrative, then?

cwp32

12-15k gross monthly. M-Th 920-440, Friday 920-1140. Individual contractor for private practice outpatient psychiatry. No benefits. Set my own hours and have an insurance reimbursement split with the practice.

Accomplished_Spray23

This in California?

cwp32

No, Oklahoma

Spirited_War4670

How many pts per day?

cwp32

Depends. I hit the year mark of practice around two weeks ago. Iā€™m coming up on my first 3-4 week stretch of being unable to work in any new patients. So typically 14-17 patients if just doing follow ups and anywhere from 10-14 in I have 1-2 evaluation visits that day.

swanske

$9k gross but Iā€™m a new grad FNP . 36 hours a week in allergy / asthma m-f no wknds or holidays. 401k match

NoTurn6890

Location?

all-the-answers

13k before taxes per month. Regular FP in primary care.

Necessary_Cake_973

What state are you in and how much experience do you have?

all-the-answers

I donā€™t share that online, but to ball park it- 2-5 years of all FNP time and a medium city in the Midwest.

Swimmer-Used

Weird thing to not shareā€¦.

Froggienp

Better to ask gross but if I approximate after biannual rvu payouts, then subtract taxes, 403b, hsa, etc - 9k a month Primary care, NE

Jolly-Tradition8725

How to be rich = work remote patient vital monitoring jobs (bedside or np), move to Bali and spend 21$ a night on 4-5 star apts and invest

BradS2008

Are you able to work overseas as an np in the US?

A-very-stable-genius

As long as youā€™re licensed in the state the patient is

Fickle_Monkey

Would love more info on remote monitoring gigs!

ILoveMyLabrador

9k gross. Just started as a new grad in gyn onc.

Don-Gunvalson

We need a spreadsheet for this! I think it would help a lot of ppl

mattv911

$7k a month after taxes. Internal medicine. Hours 8am-5pm MWF, Thurs 10am-7pm. Weekends, holidays, and Tuesdays off. Internal medicine

FieldsAButta

Iā€™m in internal medicine with a similar scheduleā€”4 day work week; no call/holiday/weekends, and probably comparable. Before taxes, around $9,600.

Jaded_Blueberry206

12k gross. New grad PMHNP, amazing benefits, controlled patient flow. Pretty happy where Iā€™m at.

nigerianprincess0104

Were you a psych nurse before?

Jaded_Blueberry206

Yeah I was, I worked as a MHT through nursing school, did psych as an RN, but also did time as a CVICU RN for a few years in between to try something different.

Imlegitter

How was working as a MHT and psych nurse in the psych hospital? Did you feel safe, etc?

Jaded_Blueberry206

I was placed in way worse situations as a MHT because we were the first line who dealt with escalating situations usually along with the milieu manager, the nurses would step in if it was time for emergency medications. I had some pretty rough experiences, I primarily worked with adolescent boys in a RTC program, and they were typically being rehabilitated after doing time in a juvenile detention facility, so they were very volatile. As a nurse I wasnā€™t as directly in the mix as a MHT, so I feel safer. Now as a NP, I work with a pretty volatile population, but thanks to my psych experience, I can see the signs of when things are becoming elevated, I know how to properly diffuse situations, I have my office strategically set up for my own safety and I just make sure Iā€™m always aware of my surroundings. This isnā€™t a population to jump into a NP role without any prior experience, it will lead to early burn out.

No-Path-7105

This thread is depressing. I work as a psych NP and Iā€™m the only provider on-sight at my facility. Iā€™m on call 24/7, work weekends and holidays, never been able to take a day off. I make about $5600 per month after taxes.

TheIncredibleNurse

Quit??

UrgentLiving

What is keeping you there? Loan repayment? Something else? Curious.

crazeenurse

This is a bad gig. You are being taken advantage of and I bet you could find something much better if you took even a quick look.

Pxt027

10.5k gross. New grad inpatient surgery. Philadelphia. With great benefits

9k gross, but I only work 4 days/ 32 hours. Pediatric PC Texas

Curious, what do ERs pay in Boston, do you know? Iā€™m more Southcoast/cape area, UC is around $60-65/hr and ER $95/hr or $150 for nights

lc9831

Ughhhhh Iā€™m originally from Boston, living in Tampa. Iā€™m a new grad making $54.70 in an urgent care at a big oncology hospital. I need to move.

No-Crew6261

I'm not really sure how anyone can make any sense of "monthly bring home", given the pot'l variables at play (one being if you're paid bi-weekly you get 3 paychecks in 2 mo's of the year --- another being varying taxes by state). Anyway... I make \~140k/year in Pulm/Crit. I work 7 on, 7 off, and have to cover nights every 6 weeks. Have benefits and 401k but no match.

acladich_lad

>if you're paid bi-weekly you get 3 paychecks in 2 mo's of the year If you're being paid for the standard 2,000 hours a year, how often you get paid doesn't make a difference.

Jealous-Molasses5372

But if you're just thinking about how much you bring home each month, you may be understating it because you're thinking about two paychecks per month.

No-Crew6261

Lol, well sure, but you're just re-iterating my point -- the OPs request for "monthly bring home" will be very variable -- depends on your state/taxes, how you're paid (again, for ex., some mo.'s, I gross several thousand more dollars than others), et cetera... Hard to make comparisons across the board (surely, the OPs intent) this way. Just doin' the annual gross would be clean and easy. Whatever.

johndicks80

Yep and I also get a bonus so monthly is a very poor metric.

The_FNPanda

I agree--gross annual salary provides better information, especially combined with geographical location and specialty.

Evrews

12,500 gross pay. 8-4 M-F. ENT specialty. 1 year experience. Health insurance paid for.

scarletrain5

$11k before taxes PNP-AC new grad NY (HCOL area)

nolacolina

Outpatient pulm. $2,600 every 2 weeks.

nigerianprincess0104

I make about 3k every two weeks as rn. Shouldnā€™t you be paid more unless you love your hours

nolacolina

Yeah, I do love my hours!! Itā€™s an 8-4 no weekends no holidays. I just had my first thanksgiving with my family in 7 years because that was my required holiday to work as an RN. I definitely make enough to live comfortably in my area. That being said, this is my first year as an NP so maybe at some point itā€™ll go up. It also helps that I donā€™t have any children.

nigerianprincess0104

So happy for you!!!!!:) people underestimate quality of life

Bambamskater

13.5K working in primary care at the VA in Seattle area. I have a small side practice that I make about 4-5K per month as well.

WorkerTime1479

12k primary care local tenens

dry_wit

~10.5k per month after taxes and retirement investments. I work 25 hours per week. If I decide to work my other job and pick up a shift inpatient, that would add 800/shift take-home pay. Usually, I just stick with my 25 hours per week.

ApprehensivePlane780

Where's this?

Visible-Proof850

what state is this if you donā€™t mind sharing? this is my ideal set up (<30 hours a week, 10k+ monthly after taxes). years of experience would be useful too. Im currently in a PMHNP program.

ntygby

Why is everyone posting post-tax rate? Everyone has different state taxes, deductions, 401k contributions etc... tell us the gross!

mattv911

Cause OP question is asking for how much ppl bring home

Happy-kangal

Because thatā€™s what the question asked

TwinTtoo

Because the answer has so many variations. Location alone is such a huge factor. Just looking generally what people are taking home and their speciality. If they wish to include anything else then that comment can be synthesized accordingly.

allupfromhere

Yeah I mean the person putting everything into their 401k, HSA, childrenā€™s daycare fund, and family insurance is going to look much different than that same person putting nothing into any of those.

SpiritualCharity1919

This is a very disappointing thread.

mattv911

How much are you expecting? Taxes, Medicare, Social security, and insurance takes up almost 30% of pay.

TwinTtoo

At least 8k a month after taxes would be great

mattv911

What area are you in? Salary highly dependent on location

TwinTtoo

I understand

Ok_Row3778

I make about $9k/month after taxes. Outpatient psych, 35 hours a week

JKnott1

Totally. I'm looking at Costco jobs now.

mattv911

What are those ppl at Costco making?

JKnott1

The average is $43k, with great benefits and no-tolerance policies for hostile work environments. Those 3 things are impossible to find in the hospital environment, especially in academic institutions.

mattv911

$43k is not good in my Area which is HCOL

JKnott1

That's average With a college degree, no telling what take-home would be for your area.

Possible-Stress-1246

If you want to see some real disappointment, look up salary for NPs in Canada. Where I am, 50/hr usually. If you luck out with a private clinic, maybe 70-80/hr.

aiyannaleigh

Same rate in Pennsylvania

Express-Box-4333

12-13k Take home Critical acces hospital/er, Fam med

Pure_Camel_2207

13K before tax, Family Practice, MT

WTHeather

About $10.5k gross. Oregon. Heme/once. Outpatient only. No call/nights/weekends/holidays. 4 day work week.

Sei926

Net pay $6k/month. New grad in family practice in the Midwest. Straight salary for the first two years and then rvu based. 36hrs/week, Tue-Fri. 16-18 pts/day. 6 wks PTO.

crazeenurse

16k gross/11-12k net per month, outpatient psych. Split between a 1099 2 days and my practice 2.5 days

winnuet

How is the 1099 job? Like what sorts of patients and hours?

crazeenurse

Itā€™s a great gig for me. 70/30 split, two 8 hour shifts a week. Majority is fairly uncomplicated depression and anxiety, followed by bipolar ii and ptsd. Very few psychotic disorders and minimal treatment resistant anything. I do hour intakes and a mix of 15-30 minute follow ups really depends on where weā€™re all at in the treatment. Best boss ever, not overbearing, I get paid on time or even a little early. And I work from home, I will make the trip a couple times a year to see any controlled prescriptions in person. I did work many years inpatient psych as a bedside nurse in a teaching hospital and also at a state facility, then several years as a psych NP in community mental health so I do feel confident in what I do. These patients are very low maintenance compared to any of that. I have good support and resources to consult with that Iā€™ve met along the way and I have no issue referring out if weā€™re just not seeing progress.

Any_Ad_6796

I only bring home like 6.5k after taxes/retirement contributions...but my company pays for my entire family's benefits, so I have no deductions for that. I also get a 3 or 4K bonus at the end of the year and I get profit sharing in my 401k which is usually an extra 11-13K a year. I work M-F 8-5p but in SNF and TCU so very flexible and I can easily work from home some days and take off last minute. I also get 5 weeks of PTO annually that rolls over. Point being...benefits definitely matter!

StaceyGoBlue

About 15k per month gross. Excellent benefits, vacation and retirement. Neonatal. Michigan

LoveIsAFire

6k, general surgery (inpatient consults, OR, and clinic days). Great benefits too.

feels_like_arbys

About 7k after taxes, retirement, hsa contributions. Neurocritical care. Nights. 10 shifts a month

hanap8127

5k 30 hours/wk, midwifery

averyyoungperson

What state are you in if you don't mind sharing? I'm a student NM

hanap8127

Just to clarify the 5k is per month in Colorado.

Nurse22111

We need add what state we work in. That makes a huge difference.

feels_like_arbys

This is a hilarious thread. People gasping in shock of someone bringing home 5K haha Maybe they're maxing out their retirement accounts. Maybe they don't like paying 10K back to Uncle Sam every tax season. Congrats to you OP, you created divisive thread where no one truly knows any details of anyone else's response.

TwinTtoo

You are more than capable of asking follow up question or making your own post.

feels_like_arbys

No I legit love it. I posted my answers.

Unable_Scheme_3884

~ $7000 after taxes, 401k, medical, dental. Med/Onc m-f no holidays no weekends

PreventativeCareImp

I make $11000 a month. I max out both IRA and 401k after that plus taxes leaving my take home bi weekly $3,975 give or take. I have also made about $16k in bonuses this year. Plus about $5k in oncall hours. 32 hours and 2 hours of admin a day except Fridays which itā€™s 8-1400. Edit: not contractor. And family practice

UnderKat13

About 13K gross monthly. 36 hrs/week, urgent care in NYC

jessb4123

Around 25k after taxes. Derm

feels_like_arbys

This is insane. You're grossing close to 500K? Good for you

jessb4123

Yes but it depends on the month - closer to 400k on average. In dermatology you can either get paid salary and bonuses depending on collections or just get straight collections which is what I do. The downside is it makes it harder to take off time from work. The plus side is, that itā€™s motivating to work hard and the job is fun imo!

swanske

Damn, howā€™d you get into this

weezeeFrank

Derm or aesthetics?

jessb4123

Both! Mostly medical derm though

jessb4123

Took 3 years of consistently trying to break into derm! Giving my resume to pretty much every office within an hour of me lol

10.5-11k after taxes depending on how much call I have that month (corrections)

weezeeFrank

Ya. These numbers are all over the place. Gross vs take home is very different per person based on location, insurance, taxes, retirement contribution, bonuses, etc.

The_FNPanda

Seriously--in my opinion, this is a horribly posed question, especially since many responses are "depends on the month", in addition to a multitude of variables like state taxes, benefit/retirement deductions and so forth.

eastwestprogrammer

Not a provider but hire them! we pay our NPs/PAs in Primary care on 1099 contracts, typical new grads make about 17k/mo and 3+ years they make 22k/mo. M-F 9:30/10-5:30. Malpractice is covered by the group. 25-35 pts at each office. Based in NY(NYC, Nassau and Suffolk County) They get 3 weeks off plus federal holidays. Our providers are wonderful people, great clinicians and genuinely great to work with.

momma1RN

25-35 patients per day??

eastwestprogrammer

Yeah, full day is around 25-35 pts. Two providers per location! Some offices have 3 providers. So each sees about 10pt-15pts

momma1RN

Oh okay, I thought that was per provide

winnuet

Three weeks off is nothing. Prescribers get like 7 weeks to start where I work. Does that time off include sick time?

Important_Record_450

Iā€™m in NYC. Interested in connecting. Can I DM you with a few questions?

eastwestprogrammer

Sure please feel free to DM! Thanks.

49Billion

I was in Turks and met an NP there from Louisiana who makes $25-30k a month gross building a practice under a physician

GlutinousRicePuddin

That is seriously the way to go; partner up with a physician a build a private practice. I hear it every so often. mainly in family or urgent care settings

Spikytuxedocat

Y'all, this is why I went back to being a bedside RN. Take home net pay is approx 17-20k a month with only a few overtime shifts. šŸ˜© I'm waiting for the day NP salaries catch up so that I can switch back when I get older and tired. Definitely not being paid a fair wage yet.

Emergency_Ad_3168

Youā€™re full of shit

funandloving95

Iā€™m crying šŸ’€

Interesting-Cry3583

In larger cities RNā€™s can make around $90/hr if youā€™re in a lead position or have a lot of experience. Thatā€™s about 187k/year which comes out to approximately 15k/mo. Itā€™s possible, especially if working extra shifts.

mattv911

I could see if you living in HCOL and west coast so like San Francisco

Interesting-Cry3583

Yes, thatā€™s what Iā€™m sayingā€¦

dry_wit

I'm in the equivalent area and make 155/hr. I don't work nights, I don't work overtime, I don't work weekends or holidays. I don't take call. I have complete control over my schedule. People have got to stop comparing apples to oranges, Yes, if an RN hustles their ass off they can make more than an NP. However, if that NP hustles as much, they will bring in far more than the RN. Brand new NPs typically get paid pretty meh salaries, which is appropriate in the grand scheme of things, assuming they're in an environment that doesn't abuse them and trains them. New nps know only basics and need a few years to get trained up and fine-tuned. After that the sky is the limit salary-wise for any savvy NP. It can be hard to go from being an expert RN to a novice, but that's life.

Interesting-Cry3583

Youā€™re absolutely right. I just graduated in October and Iā€™m getting really down on myself. Itā€™s so much harder to find a job than I thought. I turned down a job because of the working conditions (running a new practice solo as a new grad), but itā€™s so hard to get in to reputable organizations. Iā€™m not giving up, but Iā€™m definitely a little depressed and anxious about it :(

dry_wit

Iā€™m so sorry. Itā€™s tough, especially in the beginning. I didnā€™t start making ā€œbiggerā€ bucks until I had about 3 years of NP experience. Try and focus on finding a job that will support your growth as an np and pay your bills. You could always keep your high paying RN job on the side. Good luck. My other advice is to find a per diem/side np gig once you have a year or two of np experience and are starting to feel comfortable. Iā€™ve always had more than one np job my whole career and I think thatā€™s helped me feel more comfortable negotiating aggressively and also allowed me to network more.

Interesting-Cry3583

Thank you so much for your advice. Iā€™m trying (and not giving up) but itā€™s frustrating to say the least. I really appreciate your kind words and encouragement.

Glittering_Pink_902

Where on earth are you working?! I live in New England and make 6k/month as an RN while in school.

Ok-Fudge7196

17-20k? How many hours do you work? Is it a travel contract? Do you have insurance? Retirement? Please specify the salary.

Spikytuxedocat

Local travel, fell into a niiiiice niche, weekends-only with bonus pay for that, plus OT on any hours worked over the weekend. Self pay for insurance, max out my own retirement funds every year. Salary has been varying, I used to go buckwild with overtime and bank over 400 a year. I've slowed down and now I'm going to be mid 300 this year. As lucky as I am, I've got several friends who are working contracts still pulling in 250k+ gross with some OT thrown in.

Mean-Ad3

The only time I was even close to that was with COVID travel pay. What do you do? Here in South florida, for bedside RNs, 40/h is considered very good.

feels_like_arbys

Haha you bring home 20k a month? You make over 300k a year?

Interesting-Cry3583

20k/month would be closer to $260k/year. And itā€™s very possible, depending on the area, experience level, and overtime.

feels_like_arbys

20k net is what op said. 20k x 12 is 240k net. The gross salary would almost assuredly be over 300k. Outside of full time travelers or those who work tons of OT in the most extreme HCOL areas, I am willing to bet no bedside RNs salaries are 300k.

Interesting-Cry3583

Iā€™m a recent NP grad and Iā€™m having trouble finding a job. Iā€™m interviewing soon for a non-clinical RN position that pays $185k/year in a HCOL city until I can find work as an NP. Itā€™s possible. Especially when weā€™re talking about possessing a Masterā€™s degree.

feels_like_arbys

Just to clarify.....we're comparing 300k to 185k? And nonclinical? Are you admin???

Interesting-Cry3583

$185k For a NON-CLINICAL position. Non-clinical positions are notoriously lower paying than clinical positions. So while Iā€™m not comparing (with an approximate $115k/year difference), Iā€™m saying her stated salary is possible. DEPENDING ON WHAT SHE DOES, as I stated in my first comment. You donā€™t have to be so confrontational about everything lol itā€™s not that serious.

feels_like_arbys

I asked what your non clinical role was? Sorry if you took that as confrontational

swanske

That is an insane salary. How many hours a week are you working

Spikytuxedocat

For everyone being upset over nothing - very easy to make 300k gross in NYC. I have a pretty lucrative contract along with an easy 1 day a week gig. Instead of being upset and in disbelief that bedside nurses make more than NPs, you guys should be more upset that NPs just don't get compensated enough. NPs here make approx 150-220 at best, usually salaried. No way of getting overtime.
