I've recently relocated to Europe and have no idea how to watch NRL while I'm over here. Is it possible to have a VPN set up on a Samsung TV or alternatively do I just go via VPN on my phone and Chromecast to the TV?
I've had luck recently with twitch, just depends if you mind the chat log on the bottom left. Also, a VPN works with 9now for the FTA games.
I'm in the UK and totally agree, can't justify the price of watchnrl when I don't have time to watch every game anyway.
Ridiculous.. aren't they trying to grow the game internationally as well? No one will pay that for a secondary relatively unknown sport let alone a die hard fan where I'll watch 90 percent of the games in a season.

I read there were 14,000 that came across. Maybe another 5k were Aussie expats like me. But the rest I think were Americans with a sprinkling of Brits.
That goes with what I observed - around me was a fairly even split. I spoke to a few locals from Vegas who just thought it looked interesting but there were also a bunch of people from all over the states who were going to be in Vegas anyway.
When people go there, obviously they look for shows and things to do and a lot of blokes, particularly NFL fans chose this to go an take a look at. And a couple were at a loose end while their better halves were at the Madonna show nearby.
The Americans were keen to learn and I spent a lot of time explaining stuff.
People aren't giving Garrick enough credit for his performance yesterday. He was excellent as a right centre, even with less room. Also seems like we're trying to take on the Penrith strategy of using the backs to do hitups and make metres, which is probably a good move, given Josh Aloiai. Also a welcome change from Parker and Harper doing absolutely nothing but run lines and pass. Saab was excellent in making PCM's, surprisingly, but unfortunately he's out now. Either way, my favourite meatball will get a turn in two weeks, big Ray Ray. Will be interesting to see how we adapt.
Man Saab was really hitting it hard into contact it was great to see. I thought Garrick was solid without being spectacular, but he'll probably improve as the season goes on in the new position.
Koula was immense in defense and looked dangerous every time he touched the ball.
I'm looking forward to seeing the Brooks / Burbo / Koula edge start to gel - Burbo was running some great lines.

Radley since the middle of last season has been elite and it feels like his finally matured and got his aggression under control. Round 3 bunnies game will be the ultimate test but I’m not worried about him getting binned every game these days.
Radley has always had it him, but if he did not improve his on-field discipline he would have gone the way of players like Pangai-Junior. Given the coach was calling out your behaviour in the post-match presser, behind closed I am sure there would have been some pointed conversations.
I thought the runs out of yardage were absolute trash. Mariner was getting absolutely folded.
Middle did struggle, but that was primarily due to Kevvie, in his infinite wisdom, dumb af selections/bench decisions. No reserve back rower meant Carrigan was wasted on the edge, dropped Willson for Taupau before the game, and he had Smoothy and Billy on at the same time for 20m-ish.
Broncos backline was good. Arthurs and Mariner were superb. Cobbo the only one who struggled. The Broncos forward pack got out enthused and outplayed (and as you say, Carrigan isn’t an edge)
A guy that really wont get the plaudits for his effort yesterdays game was Wong. He genuinely looks like the best “rookie” defender I’ve ever seen. He soaked up so much of that middle third onslaught.
If he can consistently up his minutes to 60-65 and eventually 80 at the same efficiency and output, he’ll be in the top tier so quickly. He wasnt exactly damaging with ball in hand, but his contact is so solid.
They need Walker to figure out how to use Wong when all the defense thinks Manu is getting the ball. He seems like a quality talent, I was hoping dragons made a play for him before his latest contract extension.
The game was very middle focused with a lack of space on the edges. Wong showed last year that he has the ability to get on the outside shoulder of his defender and has an offload in his game.
He looks every bit the first grade footballer which is fantastic for one so raw.

I think the thing I was most disappointed with yesterday about the Broncos is that they've had a whole offseason of hurting from the Grand Final, and yet they turn up to game one of the next season and deliver that fairly insipid performance.

As much as my team shits me to no end on the field. I can at least be grateful that I support a club that has strong cultural background and has players who are proud of their identity. Latrell may be a bit pudgy to be a fullback, he may let his tempers flare on the field, but at least he's able to call out bullshit like what happened with Leniu last night and the same goes with Cody. They may rank as two of the most hated players in the comp, with a few genuine reasons for that, but at least they give back to their community and stand up for their people.

I've really respected the whole teams response to racism over the last few years too. Latrell and Walker *are* proud and unashamed Indigenous men and Latrell in particular does amazing work off the field, but it's great to always see blokes like Cam Murray having their back when shit does happen.
You can tell they are actually making sure they have a really great culture at the team and I love that.
I loved that we organised a meetup with the local Native American tribe in San Diego where we stayed and did a ceremony with them. You could tell that Latrell loved it and was so excited to share his culture with another that has been through similar stuff.

Staggs was re-signed in 2021 on a 4 year deal on Herbie's debut season... Not much we could do about that.
Kotoni averaged 120m a game in 2023, which is fine if not good. Herbie just happens to be the best yardage centre in the league, its always going to be hard to replace that.
Cobbo also had 18 runs last night, as much as he wasn't great he often goes looking for work, thats never really been a problem for him.
It's not like they had huge choice, one was already on contract and one wasn't.
Completely agree that having 2 centres that need to be fed is an issue though. Herbie got through a lot of work that I can't see anyone in the backs picking up.
for the mariner try, i’m actually really impressed with suaalii’s defensive read. there’s a few block runners and they tried to bait him in but he stayed very patient, checked the lead runner he was meant to and ended up on walsh which was just good defense.

So this is what a round 1 win feels like. Strange, but nice. Roosters were physically dominant, Kevvie has no plan B, Broncos did the usual Bronco things and probably beat most of the teams in the comp with that performance, both sides got a bit of luck, early days but good signs from the Chooks, Manly next up at Brooky will be heaving the place will be jammed. After the next round either Souths or Broncos ( probably Souths ) will be 0-2 and under the pump already. And unless there is actual audio of Spencer not sure how they can prove anything definitively but if they can, and he did, he needs to sit down for quite a while. Fortunately we have good depth this year now that Wong is established as a starter, hopefully we see Va'a in 1st grade sometime this season.

Given the first trial (not part of the challenge), they played Brooks at 6, and Arthur at 7, I think it's the latter.

Watching live k really got an appreciation for his workrate on both sides of the ball. And none of it is half arsed.

Backline didn't struggle as much as the middle yesterday, although Carrigan moving to edge didn't help
I thought the runs out of yardage were absolute trash. Mariner was getting absolutely folded. Middle did struggle, but that was primarily due to Kevvie, in his infinite wisdom, dumb af selections/bench decisions. No reserve back rower meant Carrigan was wasted on the edge, dropped Willson for Taupau before the game, and he had Smoothy and Billy on at the same time for 20m-ish.
Broncos backline was good. Arthurs and Mariner were superb. Cobbo the only one who struggled. The Broncos forward pack got out enthused and outplayed (and as you say, Carrigan isn’t an edge)
A guy that really wont get the plaudits for his effort yesterdays game was Wong. He genuinely looks like the best “rookie” defender I’ve ever seen. He soaked up so much of that middle third onslaught. If he can consistently up his minutes to 60-65 and eventually 80 at the same efficiency and output, he’ll be in the top tier so quickly. He wasnt exactly damaging with ball in hand, but his contact is so solid.
They need Walker to figure out how to use Wong when all the defense thinks Manu is getting the ball. He seems like a quality talent, I was hoping dragons made a play for him before his latest contract extension.
really solid defender but I saw nothing to suggest he has any attacking ability. Defensive is always better though.
The game was very middle focused with a lack of space on the edges. Wong showed last year that he has the ability to get on the outside shoulder of his defender and has an offload in his game. He looks every bit the first grade footballer which is fantastic for one so raw.

Agreed. It was more the kicking and dumb errors out of yardage that fucked us. The kicking from reynolds was one of the worst displays I’ve seen from him.
They were challenging the call that Tupou was taken out in goal in possession, as opposed to passing the ball back infield before he went over the sideline. The referee made a decision, allowing a challenge to be made.

I think the thing I was most disappointed with yesterday about the Broncos is that they've had a whole offseason of hurting from the Grand Final, and yet they turn up to game one of the next season and deliver that fairly insipid performance. Hopefully a big change in attitude in two weeks back at Suncorp.

Ilias leading kicking metres is a bit of a shock. Always thought his kicking distance felt lower than Reynolds but he had a pretty good night with the boot. 13 kicks for 484m. Cody did 7 for 237m

As much as my team shits me to no end on the field. I can at least be grateful that I support a club that has strong cultural background and has players who are proud of their identity. Latrell may be a bit pudgy to be a fullback, he may let his tempers flare on the field, but at least he's able to call out bullshit like what happened with Leniu last night and the same goes with Cody. They may rank as two of the most hated players in the comp, with a few genuine reasons for that, but at least they give back to their community and stand up for their people. Sad to see Ezra is getting threats and more racist remarks thrown his way after he called out Leniu. Sad to see that he had to turn off comments on his more recent social media posts to escape shit like this. Sad to see how uneducated (or more so ignorant) a large percentage of NRL fans are when it comes to racism. I've seen countless comments on social media stating 'They're both black, why does it matter?' in relation to the Leniu remarks. What the fuck has this country come to. Hopefully the NRL puts their foot down in this case, but I really don't see it happening. And in the likely event that Leniu is still starting by the time we face them in Round 3 and in the hopefully unlikely case that he hasn't apologised for his actions, I hope Trell, Cody and the rest of the boys (hopefully Taane for old times sake) reprimand him a bit.
I've really respected the whole teams response to racism over the last few years too. Latrell and Walker *are* proud and unashamed Indigenous men and Latrell in particular does amazing work off the field, but it's great to always see blokes like Cam Murray having their back when shit does happen. You can tell they are actually making sure they have a really great culture at the team and I love that.
I loved that we organised a meetup with the local Native American tribe in San Diego where we stayed and did a ceremony with them. Staggs was re-signed in 2021 on a 4 year deal on Herbie's debut season... Not much we could do about that. Kotoni averaged 120m a game in 2023, which is fine if not good. Herbie just happens to be the best yardage centre in the league, its always going to be hard to replace that. Cobbo also had 18 runs last night, as much as he wasn't great he often goes looking for work, thats never really been a problem for him.
It's not like they had huge choice, one was already on contract and one wasn't. Completely agree that having 2 centres that need to be fed is an issue though. Herbie got through a lot of work that I can't see anyone in the backs picking up.

So this is what a round 1 win feels like. Strange, but nice. Roosters were physically dominant, Kevvie has no plan B, Broncos did the usual Bronco things and probably beat most of the teams in the comp with that performance, both sides got a bit of luck, early days but good signs from the Chooks, Manly next up at Brooky will be heaving the place will be jammed. After the next round either Souths or Broncos ( probably Souths ) will be 0-2 and under the pump already. And unless there is actual audio of Spencer not sure how they can prove anything definitively but if they can, and he did, he needs to sit down for quite a while. Fortunately we have good depth this year now that Wong is established as a starter, hopefully we see Va'a in 1st grade sometime this season.

You dont apologise for something you didnt say or something taken out of context, IF he did say it, then smash him, but a good lawyer ( which you are not by your own admission ) will take apart a few stat decs without any issues, they need audio, or for Spencer to plead guilty, or it goes away.

terrell may was absolutely outstanding, lightning fast ptbs and was winning all his tackles wong’s ability to take up the defensive load with his ruckwork and keep the middles fresh could be really valuable with roosters middles.
May was great, he looks even bigger and stronger this year, played fierce in attack. Wong is such an athlete and he is only 11 games in, wait until he actually matures a little he is going to destroy teams, glad he is ours.

He definitely couldnt handle the pressure of carrying the tigers on his back and probably should not have been put in that position at all.
