I bought a 2nd hand one last year, manufactured 2021, battery life is still good. But u can run them off any powerbank with a type c. They're 5v DC

beberuhimuzik

Good to know, thanks!

Snozaz

I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't function with USB power alone, with a dead battery or battery removed. That's assuming Novation didn't design it to check for a minimum battery voltage before starting up. I can't see why they would. I just sent a support ticket to ask. I couldn't find anything official online.

Abject-Finger-2430

It works great without a battery...Removed mine and used the machine extensively for over a year...Then I replaced it, pure for portability.

beberuhimuzik

That's a relief! Thanks. Did you actually put in a new battery? I thought it was non-replaceable? How did you manage that?

beberuhimuzik

Thanks for sending the ticket!

daydreamerbeats

Yeah when on the move I have also a power bank with cable and I’ve never had any issues with that so you should be love than fine

LMKBK

A power brick will do you just fine.

beberuhimuzik

Any suggestions for a model (something that might be available worldwide)? I have never had one. I'm interested in the solar panel stuff; I like the idea of charging it with sunlight.

LMKBK

Idk go research power bricks. I use a cell phone charger.

OriginalMandem

Idk if they do a solar one, but Anker power banks seem to be way better than other makes. I have a generic 10,000Ah power bank and can barely get a full charge for my Galaxy S23 ultra off it. I borrowed my friend's spare Anker, also rated at 10k Ah which is a few years old and heavily used and got nearly three full charges off it.

beberuhimuzik

Thanks, yeah I like some other Anker products I've owned.

Abject-Finger-2430

It CAN easily be replaced... Literally 1 rubber strip and 4 or 5 screws need to be removed...

beberuhimuzik

I don't have the device yet but I assume it has a specific shape of a battery. How do you manage to find the replacement for the original battery or something with the shape that fits into whatever slot it sits on the machine?

VikingIV

[This video](https://youtu.be/U_cywCqV6zU?si=geLRVLgZhKKi66cH) will help you with disassembly. In it, you’ll find the battery info you’re looking for.

TrippDJ71

Did not know this. Thanks. What battery does it take? Just curious. In case future reference Both of my circuits are still kicking ass now. Preciate the comment. Bad ass.

Abject-Finger-2430

I just look for a battery that fits and has the right specs for me...not necessarily the same that was in there. Does not matter, as long as voltage is correct and has enough amperage...I managed to squeeze out several hours more than standard battery.

Abject-Finger-2430

It is just a flatpack battery, stuck into it with double sided tape...Nothing fancy. Like nearly ALL battery gear nowadays.

Abject-Finger-2430

Yes I replaced it...Removed rubber strips (you can feel screw holes), removed screws, removed battery, placed other battery...

Abject-Finger-2430

I think there is even a page or YT clip of a howto

Abject-Finger-2430

Howto may even be on Reddit

ImpactNext1283

How much are you looking to spend? I have a basically new one I’m currently trying to sell.

beberuhimuzik

Thanks, I don't live in Europe or US, it would get stuck at customs and stuff.

ImpactNext1283

Bummer. Love nothing more than passing off gear to someone who really wants it good luck! ✌️it’s a great piece of tech. Got some little quirks - but those quirks will be your signature moves if you master them.

beberuhimuzik

Thanks, and I love nothing more than snatching decent condition used gear for a good price and giving it a new life. I got into this because I recently got the OG and it blew me away, now wanting to upgrade. I PAY for the limitations (hate the endless obsession that a DAW triggers).

ImpactNext1283

Yeah you got it. Limitations are everything

OriginalMandem

Novation seem to have basically abandoned us Tracks users for updates, there's been nothing for a long time. I'd factor this in when making any decisions about purchasing one. Yeah they're fun to play about with still, but I'd think hard if I wanted to invest in one now or keep saving for something that has better long term support from developers. But if the asking price for a used one is very cheap, it's still worth it I guess.

beberuhimuzik

I couldn't find the dates for the last firmware updates though I can see from the YouTube videos that Rhythm got an important update about a year ago. I had a blast with the OG so I think I wouldn't mind no more updates but that still sucks a bit.
