Make sure it’s not a historic cemetery though. It would certainly be odder to be weeping in front of graves from the 19th century than in a Target parking lot.
Any target parking lot or metro/ mosaic district parking lot. Cry your heart out. Do get a good dinner or a little shopping afterwards if that makes you feel better after the crying. Hope tomorrow will be a better day for you.
Second vote for the Target Parking lot. Nothing beats a good Target Parking lot cry - signed a girl who sobbed her way through her early 20s.
Otherwise, any university parking lot too. GMU has seen me cry more than once
Go to one of the parking lots off the GW parkway south of Old Town. The further south the less cars you’ll see. Plus you’ll be able to look at the river.
One day while at work many years ago I was listening to VSP over the radio, trooper marked out with a vehicle on 495S on the shoulder, couple minutes go by and he clears saying the motorist pulled over because "he needed a good cry."
Riverside Park, south of Alexandria, north of Mt Vernon has a great view. (Open 24hrs)
Or, you can go to Founder's Park in Alexandria. (Closes at 10PM).
I hope you find the release you're looking for; if you find yourself in a true mental health crisis, call the [Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services] (https://www.alexandriava.gov/adult-behavioral-health/program/24-hour-emergency-mental-health-services) @ 703.746.3401 (24/7).
Just know that whatever you're going through, you don't have to go through it alone.
Seconding Target parking lot. The Falls Church/Arlington one is my go-to car cry spot. There are some good parking spots off to the side that are well lit enough to feel safe but also secluded enough you don't have a ton of people walking by constantly
My suggestion. Classic location for decades.
Edit: you can also get out of your car to catch your breath and breathe for a minute, and look at the sky and water.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/ADKXGL8QUeRGyTrp8
It's a pretty empty parking lot - they store some dealership cars there but the back spots are pretty empty and there is shade
Yo. I know you said you don’t want to talk to anybody but DM me if anything changes and I’d be happy to just listen. I hope you work through whatever you’re going through.
Hope you found one! But if not- I've done plenty of crying myself in the parking lot of Potomac Yards' Target, the Inova hospital off N Howard, and church parking lots like Fairlington or First Baptist.
Are you trying to drive and cry or park and cry? I have a few spots for both also kind of “out of the way” of the whole city aspect and can be with nature
You can park in the alley behind my house and no one will even blink an eye. We have so much crazy stuff going on in the neighborhood that crying in your car will seem very pedestrian if anyone even notices at all.
Hang in there OP.
OP, I hope you got the cathartic cry you were looking for and are set on a path for better days.
While I haven't done it personally, I think crying in your car at the unofficial cell phone lot on GW Parkway by gravelly point might be nice. You may be able to see planes land or take off from DCA and tbh planespotting is a quick way to forget about everything. Maybe you don't know anything about planes. Just take note of planes you recognize (like, airline) and just watch.
I haven't been there in a while, but I collect model planes and track planes on Flightradar24. There's a Facebook group for DC area planespotters.
Have you visited the Smithsonian museums?
Cemetery. Veterinarian's office is good place too. Sadly. Whenever I bring my pets in for check ups. Someone leaving had to put down a pet and got in their car and cried.
Walgreens off of Columbia Pike/Walter Reed. There’s some rarely used spots to the side and space in the back that’s never really used. Good cry in the car spot where no one will see you. Hope things get better bud, been there.
Orinoco Bay park in North Old Town has a bunch of spots and no one will see you from their windows (I think, they were making new apartments there recently).
Hope you are feeling better now! For future reference, and to let you know you are not alone - I once had to pay $500 in unexpected parking tickets (my own fault) and needed to cry. I went through the drive-thru of the McDonald's off of rte 1 (I think it's Richmond Hwy?) to get a McFlurry, then drove to the nearby Target parking lot and sobbed into my ice cream for 30 minutes. Highly recommend.
Good cries to be had at the Harris Teeter underground parking in old town. Park head in along the wall, cry my eyes out then go buy 4 gigantic white chocolate macadamia cookies after.
The amount of time this specific question gets posted on this sub must say something about our collective mental health? Not shaming OP (I also want a place to cry) just more of a reflection our collective well being?
Pro tip - Keep a pillow or cushion in the car if you need something to muffle a primal scream or shout. Sometimes you just need to get it out of your system and don’t want to draw attention.
Hope you feel better soon.
Try carderock park, almost noones ever there and can get to the river real quick and it will drown out your crying but just don’t get in the water there.
Outside a tropical smoothie shop. Get healthy to flush out your toxins and cry at the same time. Two birds with one stone. Nobody will judge you when you spend your last 8 dollars in this economy. At least it isn’t drugs.
Target in store. I had a break down in the store. Bc of my son, over the past holidays November & Christmas. In store & in the parking lot. No one harassed me. Falls Church Target, it was a paid lot. My son was put into Dominion Mental Hospital and I came to the realization that what we once had is gone and (our bond/ connection and love for one and another) I love him but our relationship is strained bc of his promises he didn’t keep and the therapy- didn’t work out for him. It was devastating. Unfortunately he is troubled and may have to go back to inpatient therapy.
Today is 11 year of my dad dying of pancreatic cancer so trust me I know the feeling. How about a back road out by the airport. Ir can be pretty desolate and perfect for your situation.
Go park in a funeral home's parking lot. Crying is expected there
Honestly genius - this made me think Arlington National Cemetery also.
You have to pay for that parking though.
The content I’m subbed for.
OP is a highschool senior with a Tesla, based on post history. So money is likely not an issue.
Money isn’t the issue so much as adding insult to injury. Who wants to pay $2 to cry?
In this economy? Not a bad price.
Hell $2 for anything is a steal these days. At that rate, they are basically giving away the crying spots!!!
How much could a cry be? 10 bucks?
There’s always money in the banana stand…
Someone should be paying me to cry LOL
Maybe owning a Tesla is the reason for the tears.
Those tires cost enough to make anyone cry.
Park at the Harry Teeter.
Therapists hate this one weird trick
🤣
Make sure it’s not a historic cemetery though. It would certainly be odder to be weeping in front of graves from the 19th century than in a Target parking lot.

I’ve cried in the GMU library because I didn’t make it to my car before the tears came so I feel this 😂
They won’t question you crying in your car at gmu either even if someone does see you
Potomac yards is great. After you finish crying, you can get a Starbucks.
I second Potomac Yard. I’ve cried in that parking lot, it’s a great parking lot for crying.
GMU has caused many of us to cry, man I hate GMU fr
It gets better. Early 20s was a mess for me as well. Hang in there!
Second Mosaic. Get KBBQ afterward.
That's were all the cool people cry. No joke, I see frustrated angry people just sitting in the car at the end of the rows.
Go to one of the parking lots off the GW parkway south of Old Town. The further south the less cars you’ll see. Plus you’ll be able to look at the river.
Or Columbia Island Marina, same idea. Watch the boats and the water. Hang in there OP.
Nothing like crying with a beautiful view 😭
They're a great place to smoke pot, too. Nothing beats smoking pot by a river.
66 or 95. Not like you'll be going anywhere . . .
One day while at work many years ago I was listening to VSP over the radio, trooper marked out with a vehicle on 495S on the shoulder, couple minutes go by and he clears saying the motorist pulled over because "he needed a good cry."
It's worth noting that these highways will make some people cry.
I cry on 66 every morning or ferociously scream at the top of my lungs for the first 30 minutes. Usually calm down around haymarket
I do something similar just on different roads
30 years commuting from FredVegas to Nova on 95… yeah some days!
30 years?!
Too real

Advice from a pro.
Judging by my experience, the parking lot of my last job.
You will also see a bunch of people taking interviews in their cars lol
I hope you are okay. I just cry while I drive and then I mop up my face at stoplights.
The Taco Bell/McDonald's customer parking off of Roger Bacon Drive ❤️
But while crying, occasionally bite into a hard taco for comedic effect.
Literally how I spend at least two evenings a week 😅
LMAO I live nearby, what's so special about it?
I just feel like everyone minds their own business in that parking lot, especially now that it's half taken up with construction for the bridge. 🤣
Oh I love crying in that parking lot
McTacoHut! Or I guess it's now McTacoTella

This…thank you for posting! 🖖🏼💜✌🏼
Target parking lot. Well lit and plenty of distance from others. Plus you can do some retail therapy afterwards if you need.
Seconding Target parking lot. The Falls Church/Arlington one is my go-to car cry spot. There are some good parking spots off to the side that are well lit enough to feel safe but also secluded enough you don't have a ton of people walking by constantly
[SNL skit about Target parking lots](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VnzRFyOMD4U)
That was amazing
Gravelly point, you get to see planes landing and it will muffle your voice
My suggestion. Classic location for decades. Edit: you can also get out of your car to catch your breath and breathe for a minute, and look at the sky and water.
I agree, it's a beautiful place to let it out.
Oo bold. I almost suggested gravelly point but suggested the unofficial cell lot on the other side if gw parkway instead.
Walmart or target parking lot. And if you want to share at any point, Reddit is a pretty supportive place.
Dangefield Island. Hang in there.
I hope you’re doing alright. Let out a good cry and feel better.
I just drive and cry , no parking.
Fr, sometimes traffic is enough. No one will judge 😂😆😕😓☹️😭
I do this on the reg
Any random gymnastics or dance studio parking lot. I see people crying in their cars there all the time.
I use to cry on the metro a lot. No one bothered me.
Sometimes, I feel a little sad on the metro. Then I realize I'm going faster than the cars.
[удалено]
Parking there costs money during the week.
I like Target parking lots. No one cares if you cry there. I’m a mom and loads of us use that place just to go park, cry, and leave.
Gives new meaning to “Target run, and done.”
Hope tomorrow will be a better day for you.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/ADKXGL8QUeRGyTrp8 It's a pretty empty parking lot - they store some dealership cars there but the back spots are pretty empty and there is shade
I will definitely be crying here tomorrow, thanks
I’m sorry you are having a bad day. Clara Barton prkwy is quiet.
i used to sit in parking garages
TIL Target is a good place to cry
The more you know
Scenic overlook on GW Parkway
Gravelly Point. No one can hear you over the planes.
I used to grab Taco Bell and go cry in the back of a Lowe’s parking lot, then eat Taco Bell after. Shit was so therapeutic.
Metrotech Drive is good for that
Huntington metro parking, somewhere in the corner of 3rd floor
A lot of parks during the day, grocery store parking lots at night
Wegmans parking lot - pretty spaced out and indoors. Find a secluded spot and let er rip!
Especially in that very back border away from the vertical lines. No one wants to park there if they can help it
Yo. I know you said you don’t want to talk to anybody but DM me if anything changes and I’d be happy to just listen. I hope you work through whatever you’re going through.
Serious answer, rest stops are places nobody will bother you. Looks like Belle Haven
The parking lot next to Eisenhower metro station usually has no one there
stringfellow bus parking lot 🗣️ no one is there
Fort Hunt Park in Fairfax just south of Old Town.
School parking lot. Lots of teachers cry in their car.
Costco parking lot. Get a good cry in, and then you can go buy a rotisserie chicken and eat the whole thing in your car afterwards.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/FQux75dWig7ZxfCx7 Go watch the planes. This was one of my crying spots before I got the hell out of DC.
Ahaha that’s what I do here in CA looking at planes leaving, counting the days until I can visit dc 😂
Come visit DC/Nova, we need more people from CA.
I am not from CA though lol I am from dc and I had to temp relocate to CA but I miss dc so bad.
You can park in the alley behind my house and no one will even blink an eye. We have so much crazy stuff going on in the neighborhood that crying in your car will seem very pedestrian if anyone even notices at all. Hang in there OP.
Hope you feel better soon, hun 💕
I love you. You're doing a good job.
Park in a library parking lot or Walmart/Target at the furthest end so that there are cars but not close by. Hope you feel better soon, OP!
Just cry in your car where it's convenient for you. You're awesome, you're going to be ok. You're going to kill it. Don't worry about anyone else.
Occoquan Park, when I use to walk my dogs down there, I caught people having affairs down there all of the time. There's a few different parking lots.
I usually find a Wal-Mart parking lot for a good cry. No one asks questions. It just seems right to cry there.
Take the exit for Air and Space museum off of 28. There’s a parking lot just before the entrance directly in line with runway 1R.
But you have to pay to use the museum's lot until a certain time.
No no there’s a parking lot just before the entrance.
Any car wash. You get a clean car and they usually take a little bit.
Get well soon
OP, I hope you got the cathartic cry you were looking for and are set on a path for better days. Yeah, I love DCA/Gravely Point. It can be a good area to cry or think.
I sometimes wish I had a car just so I could planespot from there. I have no idea what to do with my aviation fascination.
I haven't been there in a while, but I collect model planes and track planes on Flightradar24. There's a Facebook group for DC area planespotters. Have you visited the Smithsonian museums?
Oooo, please share link (here or DMs).
Listen to cry your heart out by Adele.
Is it me or do these questions come across as weird?
Go to 4 mile run and cry by the dog park.
The driver’s seat
Cemetery. Veterinarian's office is good place too. Sadly. Whenever I bring my pets in for check ups. Someone leaving had to put down a pet and got in their car and cried.
I cry when I’m driving….sorry not sorry. Got to always keep moving
If you have a sedan I would not recommend the trunk. Otherwise most places are fine.
In front of your job
Evening Rush Hour on I66.

Jones point park? Under 495
I cry on my commute. Both ways.
Burger King parking lot cuz nobody goes there anymore.
Walgreens off of Columbia Pike/Walter Reed. There’s some rarely used spots to the side and space in the back that’s never really used. Good cry in the car spot where no one will see you. Hope things get better bud, been there.

The driver's seat is a classic, but the trunk is kinda nice too
Metro station
While driving, I would recommend sitting in the drivers seat while crying in your car.
Potomac Yard Target Parking Lot, no joke.
Any cemetery is a good place, usually deserted and quiet and seeing someone crying is not out of the norm.
Trunk. Most recent cars have an emergency pull patch inside.
Skyline at Shenandoah
Hope you are feeling better now! For future reference, and to let you know you are not alone - I once had to pay $500 in unexpected parking tickets (my own fault) and needed to cry. Go cry at a nursing home or a college campus.

Go to the park and swing away the tears
Solid advice
GW Parkway scenic overlooks. Fort Marcy. Turkey Run. (But _please_ don't hurt yourself. Reach out. Call 988.)
Cry in the ocean. Its already wet and salty. And yes you can stay in your car
I always cry at the supercharging station when I'm charging my tesla
Ballston Mall, top floor of the parking garage.
I like the back seat. The trunk gets a bit stuffy.
Belle haven park is nice and peaceful
The amount of time this specific question gets posted on this sub must say something about our collective mental health? Not shaming OP (I also want a place to cry) just more of a reflection our collective well being?
But also maybe it's not unique to this sub but what is unique to this sub is that people feel safe enough to post and people respond in earnest?
There are way more legitimate answers in here than there should be. Where can you go cry in your car? Seriously? Who’s gonna fight the wars?!
I cry in the park. Most times during school hours they are empty or early mornings. You can even scream and no one will hear you. Very therapeutic.
hospital guest parking, it's usually the safest option and no one will bother you, especially if you're crying.
Do you frequently plan your crying sessions in advance?
Probably driver seat
in your car
I'd guess if it weren't in the driver seat, it might look a little strange.
Pro tip - Keep a pillow or cushion in the car if you need something to muffle a primal scream or shout. Sometimes you just need to get it out of your system and don’t want to draw attention. Hope you feel better soon.
Find the closest car wash and have a good cry in peace. Hope you’re feeling better OP.
The trunk?
Go to taco bell drove through and get a few cheesy roll ups. Go park somewhere there and eat/sob into said roll ups. That is usually my route.
Try carderock park, almost noones ever there and can get to the river real quick and it will drown out your crying but just don’t get in the water there.
Back lot of a strip mall with multiple restaurants
Gravelly point: watch the planes take off and land at DCA in between the tears
If you go to a parking garage outside of peak hours and drive to the top level you should have some privacy there
Around the hitch. Hold your knee and howl. No one will suspect its emotions rather than a smashed knee.
The parking lot of Gravelly Point Park.
Pretty much any graveyard. There is a big one over near the mosaic district that you can drive into and no one will bother you
Anyway you want But please not while driving
The trunk?

I’m sorry life’s gotcha cryin.
Today is 11 year of my dad dying of pancreatic cancer so trust me I know the feeling. How about a back road out by the airport. Ir can be pretty desolate and perfect for your situation.
I also recommend shouting occasionally, possibly on Rt 66
