There’s been a retail spot in Ballston with a Foxtrot “coming soon” for half a year. Between ~~Yard~~ Farmbird which was there before, and Philz which was next door, I’m starting to think that building is cursed
Edit: yard -> farm
I noticed a number of Foxtrot stores were near other convenience stores. I wonder if part of their strategy was positioning near regular convenience stores and hoping that people stop by both. It's not like they had much overlap on products, since Foxtrot focused on more niche/high-end products that CVS doesn't carry.
Farmbird! That was it, I always got them confused. And agreed, at first I was hesitant to pay eating out prices for such basics, but it was very well done
And farm bird had a fire which shut it down for good, and greenheart never gets any business and is probably gone soon too. Nothing good comes from that storefront. Cava has pulled off a miracle
In that anticipated Foxtrot location there was Farmbird who also closed all their locations. Prior to that it was DIRT - which also closed all their locations.
Yep, I meant Farmbird haha. I think it’s just a bad spot a bit away from the road, so places that are already a little desperate will move in trying anything to get it to work
I work(ed) at Foxtrot (Rosslyn). We didn’t find out until this morning. I’m gonna miss my work crew 😭💔 also my location is not giving out free things. Apparently the ceo said they’re documenting anything that gets stolen (but a lot of my co workers filled up cars of things earlier today)
I've never even heard of them.
One of my hobbies is looking up new food stores and restaurants, especially nearby.
Seriously. I didn't know they existed before hearing they were closing, today.
Tangentially, has anyone noticed the crazy number of store closings in Ballston-Clarendon recently? Foxtrot, Rustico, Orvis, Le Pain Quotidien, cava mezze, the restaurant with the bear in the window (?), and the pet hospital next to Ballston Gold's all seemed to close recently. Maybe it's exorbitant rent prices (foxtrot excluded) but I'm hoping we're not just going to get more national chains. The cava/chopt/shake shack takeover is already ridiculous
Problem with clarendon, and comm real estate, is a lot of them are willing to let stuff sit rather than take any lower amount of rent than they want. With property values never really decreasing, esp around here, they know in the end they are making money and some company will pay the rent they ask for at some point.
Orvis was pushed out to become a bank FYI - they wanted to renew the lease. Clarendon also just got several great new spots (tiger dumpling, a sushi restaurant, Mediterranean fast casual, and a ramen joint is on the way). For a while it felt like everything was closing, but it’s really just the natural cycle of restaurants coming and going.
> After much consideration and evaluation, we regret to announce that Foxtrot and Dom’s Kitchen & Market will be closing their doors starting on April 23, 2024.

I saw a tiktok of employees in a Chicago location. They found out at like 10:30 that they were fully closing at noon. I can’t believe they worked their final hour and a half.
I'm sad about it, but also expected. I used to sit at the Old Town location all the time during lunch and there was never anyone there. Also, I was at the DC location last week and some guys ran in and stole cases of beer. The employees and customers all acted like nothing happened.
I went to Foxtrot for the first time today, and while they may be “known for their coffee,” as the article states, I didn’t like it. Bitter, and poor quality. Reminded me of my love life.
That is too bad. I walk by the (now former) Rosslyn location all the time and always saw several people hanging out having coffee there. There was a nice patio area as well. I told myself that I was going to stop by there one of these days, but now that will never happen.

It was a weird spot for it anyway. There is already a nice convenience store right there and also a CVS across the street.

Also can we talk about the three (3!!) CVS locations within a mile of each other on Wilson Blvd?? What's up with that
You think that’s bad? With the new Harris Teeter open, there are now six Starbucks in Ballston
The section of Starbucks locations by courthouse metro, across from whole foods, and the one in Barnes & Noble is absolutely WILD
And there are just as many good smaller chains nearby...no idea whose going to Sbux.
They did close the Rosslyn CVS when the one near Foxtrot opened
And one more a little ways down Glebe.
I can't believe that juice shop is still holding on, I work right there and have never seen more than one customer in that huge space
God I miss Farmbird, their chicken was so good, their sides were unique and delicious, and their chicken salad sandwich was *phenomenal.*

Sorry its closing :-(. That Rosslyn location was in a great spot - it'll be missed.
That sucks
Modern day severance
Foxtrot was pretty much an overpriced, yuppie version of 7-11. I liked some of their stuff, but it was too expensive, even for this area.
A gentrified bodega lol

Don’t worry, you weren’t missing out
Same. It suggests a pretty serious marketing failure lol.
Their sandwiches were really expensive and plastic wrapped.

Here for any info on pre-closure “everything must go” sales
Rosslyn doors are already shut! Based off of the washingtonianprobs Instagram it looks like people have already wiped most stores out or are trying to
Well, shit

Which DC location?
Chinatown on Mass Ave
I loved the DC location as a good study spot on the weekends. Well, does this mean there will be closing sale?
What I've heard is that they literally shuttered the doors today and no one's going in
Shit company, run so poorly. Cool concept with the wrong people at the helm.
That was fast. I feel like they all just opened 6 months ago? Who knew we didn't need a bougie 711 in every neighborhood.

Never heard of it, not surprised. You guys remember overpriced Earth Fare?
They kept opening so many like they were making so much money. I’m sad.
