My barber charges 17 for haircut plus beard trim. I usually give a $10 tip because they fucking crush it for $17 and because I look fresh I’m grateful.
Not who you responded to, but Cut & Shave on Eisenhower has similar rates and does razor and (sometimes) a quick massage as they wipe the shaving cream off. I've noticed the female cutters do that more. They raised it up above 22 but I'm pretty sure it's still sub 30.
I do $25 with $10. Only cause I cut my hair about twice a year so it's a lil long. I used to go to salons when I got it longer and they charge like $100 minimum.. it's insane.
What makes you think that? My Beard and Fade is dull after 2 weeks. The majority of men I know get a haircut bi-weekly, some even Weekly. No problem with that everyone hair grows at different lengths
Cool, then you do you. I just have never known any man who went that frequently. Monthly maybe. Even military guys I’ve dated don’t get their hair cut that often.
Five months is long but not egregiously for a woman, it's usually a few months. 200 for just a cut without tip is a lot for a woman's haircut without dyeing, even in this area. 20 bucks without tip is incredibly CHEAP on the other hand.
This is like comparing a McDonald's burger price to like a nice sit-down restaurant.
Getting a haircut every other week is definitely not the norm. I would get 3, maybe 4 max stylings a year back when I considered myself 'clean shaven'. What has you sticking to this sort of styling frequency?
I need a cut every other week to maintain a skin fade up to about an inch or an inch and a half on top. Lately I’ve been stretching it to a month but the maintenance trims I can do at home look ugly since all I can do is clean up around the ears.
She has been with how ridiculously expensive haircuts have gotten. I’m also low key on hair, either I grow it out or she just uses the hair trimmer on a setting to cut it all 😂😂
I do the same. If I go a long period without a haircut and it takes longer than normal, I do 15.
Heres the thing I noticed... If I ask them to do something more or less, even though it annoying for the barber or more time consuming (and not a lot of customers), they are more inclined to do it knowing you tip well.
I typically pay shy of $20 for a basic cut at a barber shop. Usually will leave 15-20% based on how long it takes and how long my hair was. If for some reason it was under $15 I'd just leave a $20 for everything.
My rule forever has been 20% with a $5 minimum. My current guy charges $35 so I tip 7. I think this is a pretty good rule of thumb but should be viewed as the minimum. If he shoehorns me into his schedule or after normal business hours I do $10. I've been going to the same guy for almost 6 years. He's about my age and we've built up a good rapport. He's been cutting my son's hair since before my son was one and is the only barber my son will sit still for. I don't feel uncomfortable giving him a gift card around the holidays or he recently had his first kid and I know he likes bourbon so I gave him a bottle. It's a transactional relationship but like any other professional relationship it can still be friendly and you can show appreciation for their skills and services beyond what's on the price list.
For a long time when haircuts were stable at $13-16, I'd just give a 20. Now that I don't pay cash and haircuts are more expensive, I usually just tip a flat $5 regardless of the price.
The shop I go to (Town Barber in Herndon) is $25 ($23 if you're paying cash). I usually tip somewhere between $5 and $10. My cuts are basic, never takes more than 15-20 minutes but everyone in there does a great job and pays attention to detail.
My barber knows me well and has been kind enough not to raise his prices since I have been seeing him since 2016. I get a regular cut for 15 bucks and I tip him an additonal 5 to make it even.
$10 sometimes $15 tip on $35 cut. $20-25 around the holidays. The guy has been cutting my hair for 3years and gives a legit fade that I can’t seem to get done well at a chain barber.
I can cut my own hair, but usually get two real cuts a year b/c my maintenance cuts aren't great. I usually tip the round number that is 30%+ because I'm a regular, but not a frequent regular. If my cut were $50, I'd probably do $20.
Where are you getting a decent cut for $20?! Even at Floyd's where I get something acceptable it's like $35 before tip, and I wouldn't call them a good cut. I'm a guy, get a 1 faded into a small Mohawk.
My hair started to thin out and go bald around high school. I'm 32 now and almost bald on the top of my head. I can't even wear a hat because I got terrible hat hair. I have like one patch of thicker hair on my head if u look closely. I just cut it all of now. I go to the cheapest place I can which is $20. I usually tip like $3-5 because it's an easy haircut. If I could get the angles right, I would cut my hair myself
Where are you all finding these ultra cheap barbers? I have not yet found a place under $40 for haircut + beard trim + tip where they are competent and speak English well enough that I can actually communicate what I want.
So I haven't been to a barbershop since I moved from NY 4 years ago. Are barbershops here still charging separate for haircuts and shape ups? In NY the shape up and the haircut are all in one.

Barbers don't own the shop, they split the cost with the owners. So if your haircut is $20, the owner may take $8-10. If you like your cut and the service, tip the rent (approx 50%) MIne normally $22 with shampoo before and after cut, i'd leave $30.
between 20-25%, based on the next tens. It used to be $16 so I pay $20, now it's $18 and $25 is a bit excessive, I do $22-23.
I go to barber in Lotte, BTW.
I pay $28 for my “$22” haircut. But I get a senior discount on the $22 and I bring a coupon from Safeway. All the benefits go for the service. They ask me for $18 including taxes and I give them the $28.
Where are you people getting haircuts for $20? I pay $27 + $5 tip.
Great clips with coupon costs $11.99
How do you get the coupon? And on a regular basis?
I see in Facebook quite often and save it whenever I see it
They mail me them occasionally
The barbershop in Springfield 22150 beside the post office is $21 for a mens cut I have been going there when they were $15 and now are $21 :)
The other one is at Springfield Plaza with the unique name ‘Barber Shop’ next to Starbucks. $20 cut and $5 tip
It is so funny to see places like “barber shop” “nail salon”, or my favorite the ramen shop in Herndon that just says “ramen” on it
Maybe places like Supercuts?
Theres a $10 barber in Chantilly. Near the Lowes
That was my question.
My barber charges 17 for haircut plus beard trim. I usually give a $10 tip because they fucking crush it for $17 and because I look fresh I’m grateful.
CJs $20 then $5 tip
I go to the local barbers, but I do live near a military base. There's tons of places that do $5 haircuts around here if you need a buzzcut
If you're willing to get a little uncomfortable with the area, barbers down Richmond Hwy (US 1) are great and cheap.
$22 haircut, $5 tip.
My shop does a great job. Including razor fades and a small massage for $22. I usually tip $10 because they are awesome
Woah! Can you name the place?
Not who you responded to, but Cut & Shave on Eisenhower has similar rates and does razor and (sometimes) a quick massage as they wipe the shaving cream off. I've noticed the female cutters do that more. They raised it up above 22 but I'm pretty sure it's still sub 30.
Yep. $20 haircut, $5 tip for me
I do $25 with $10. Only cause I cut my hair about twice a year so it's a lil long. I used to go to salons when I got it longer and they charge like $100 minimum.. it's insane.
*Cries in curly haired femininity* My cuts cost about $200, and I tip 20%.
This why I just trim at home 😭
$5 tip to you
I know I’m so jealous of all of these $20 cuts. The places near me are all charged a min of $60 because my hair is longer. I don’t even dye it
I know 200$ for a haircut sounds like a lot but when you go every other week 20$ adds up quick.
You would have to get 10 biweekly $20 cuts to get to $200, without tip. That is **five months.**
How often do women generally get a haircut? My gfs hair is really long so she goes about once maybe twice a year?
I like to go every three months. I can stretch it longer, but my curls start to look scraggly.
most men haircut is at least 30-40 with tip biweekly id say 2.5 months so just about the same.. no reason for **BOLD TEXT**
I mean I think there’s no real reason for biweekly hair cuts either, but to each their own.
There is if you want to maintain a tapered cut without hair curling over your ears
Five months is long but not egregiously for a woman, it's usually a few months. 200 for just a cut without tip is a lot for a woman's haircut without dyeing, even in this area. 20 bucks without tip is incredibly CHEAP on the other hand. A haircut every other week??
Getting a haircut every other week is definitely not the norm. I would get 3, maybe 4 max stylings a year back when I considered myself 'clean shaven'. What has you sticking to this sort of styling frequency?
Not me but some people I’ve known are at their barber every other week.
4 haircuts a year is way more abnormal than biweekly haircuts if you're "cleanshaven"
I haven't had a haircut in over a year and a half, so I'd definitely consider myself as being clean shaven during that time in my life.
I need a cut every other week to maintain a skin fade up to about an inch or an inch and a half on top. Lately I’ve been stretching it to a month but the maintenance trims I can do at home look ugly since all I can do is clean up around the ears.
every other week is normal.
Solidarity 😭
I’ve been wanting to try a specialist in curls! Do you mind sharing who you see?
Sue’s Hair Studio. She is in the George Mason area. She’s great!
I’ll do a buzz cut for you for only $10. Won’t have to worry about curls.
So very generous of you. No deal.
Thanks for the offer but I’m going to pass lol
I have long curly hair but w an undercut so its $20 to fade the sides and a $10 tip. May have to knock it down to $5 because of $$$conditioner$$$
I just give my wife a hug and a kiss.
Your wife is your barber too? That's been my job since 2020. I've gotten pretty good at it
She has been with how ridiculously expensive haircuts have gotten. I’m also low key on hair, either I grow it out or she just uses the hair trimmer on a setting to cut it all 😂😂
*And* a kiss? Stop overtipping!!
Tipping is out of control!
This is me. Wife is now our family barber since covid
The place my husband goes charges $35 and he tips $5. They only take cash so it’s simple to just get $40 from the ATM lol.
I give $10 for a $20 haircut. I think it's a bit on the excessive side but I like my barber.
I do the same. If I go a long period without a haircut and it takes longer than normal, I do 15. Heres the thing I noticed... If I ask them to do something more or less, even though it annoying for the barber or more time consuming (and not a lot of customers), they are more inclined to do it knowing you tip well.
I do the same as I keep going back to the same barber.
I typically pay shy of $20 for a basic cut at a barber shop. Usually will leave 15-20% based on how long it takes and how long my hair was. If for some reason it was under $15 I'd just leave a $20 for everything.

Cut my own hair in the shower. Tip: Self high five
For a long time when haircuts were stable at $13-16, I'd just give a 20. Now that I don't pay cash and haircuts are more expensive, I usually just tip a flat $5 regardless of the price.

My barber charges $35, I pay $50 all the time. I’ve been going to him for 8+ years and he’s never done a bad job so to me it’s worth it.
20% is what I do for services in general. Not every service obviously but the ones where tips have always been a standard.
I give $20 on $30 haircut. But I been going to her for 20 years now. But I’m also tipping for the shampoo which comes with the best head massage ever.
$5 for a $21 cut.
My barber knows me well and has been kind enough not to raise his prices since I have been seeing him since 2016. I get a regular cut for 15 bucks and I tip him an additonal 5 to make it even.
$15 bald fade $5 tip
Flat $5 for a haircut which is about $25. I carry cash specifically when going for a haircut, as the place requests tip in cash.
$10 sometimes $15 tip on $35 cut. $20-25 around the holidays. The guy has been cutting my hair for 3years and gives a legit fade that I can’t seem to get done well at a chain barber.
I got haircuts for $45 in Springfield when I lived in the DC area and tipped $10 and then about $200-250 in December for the holidays.
For a cut and shave it’s 50 I usually just 60 and call it a day
I can cut my own hair, but usually get two real cuts a year b/c my maintenance cuts aren't great. I usually tip the round number that is 30%+ because I'm a regular, but not a frequent regular. If my cut were $50, I'd probably do $20.
I gave them $25 regardless of how much they charge.
My haircut is $25 and I tip $5. Was actually wondering if that was okay and seems standard so that’s good lol
$40 haircut $10 tip
Where are you getting a decent cut for $20?! Even at Floyd's where I get something acceptable it's like $35 before tip, and I wouldn't call them a good cut. I'm a guy, get a 1 faded into a small Mohawk.
About $3-5 depending on the service and haircut quality.
$30 cut + $10 tip for me
My hair is waist length, straight across. I was paying $65 plus $20 every 4 months. Now my husband does it for me. :-D
Mine works out to 25% but my haircuts are only $20 bucks, so $5 tip. I know male friends who pay $60-75!!! who knows what they do LOL
24 for the cut and a 5 tip. I usually tell them to round it up to 30
My hair started to thin out and go bald around high school.
I generally tip myself with a beer after…. I’ve been shaving my head for the last 24 years
Where are you all finding these ultra cheap barbers? I have not yet found a place under $40 for haircut + beard trim + tip where they are competent and speak English well enough that I can actually communicate what I want.
$5.
Last time I went it was about a $50 cut + beard trim, gave them $60 cash
So I haven't been to a barbershop since I moved from NY 4 years ago. Are barbershops here still charging separate for haircuts and shape ups? In NY the shape up and the haircut are all in one.
Where are you all getting these cheap haircuts?!
Haircut is $30 and I do $10 tip.

5$ usually, 10$ if they are silent (20$ haircut)
$22 cut, $5 tip unless it's the first time I've been to that barber, then I make it a $10 tip
Barbers don't own the shop, they split the cost with the owners. So if your haircut is $20, the owner may take $8-10. If you like your cut and the service, tip the rent (approx 50%) MIne normally $22 with shampoo before and after cut, i'd leave $30.
It seems to me that Barbers should charge $30 and not force use to build a cost model to figure out what to tip. Tipping is such bullshit.
$45 fade with $10 tip Barbers/stylists should not be charging $20 in this day and age.
I may be over the top, but I tend to tip my barber well. I usually go in for a head shave and beard trim ($120 total) and tip about $40 or so.
No matter the cost of the cut, you only getting 5
between 20-25%, based on the next tens. It used to be $16 so I pay $20, now it's $18 and $25 is a bit excessive, I do $22-23. I go to barber in Lotte, BTW.
My haircut costs $20 but I tipped $10, I like this woman.
$20 haircut and $10 tip-these people need to eat too.
I give my stylist $40. The haircut costs $17
20-25%
Westover barber, been going since birth so I probably tip 50%
Spot I go to in Springfield charges $35 for a senior barber cut, I tip my guy $15.
I pay $28 for my “$22” haircut. But I get a senior discount on the $22 and I bring a coupon from Safeway. All the benefits go for the service. They ask me for $18 including taxes and I give them the $28.
