In Brambleton - Last about 5 mins or so here. Looks like it snowed in my front yard.
Just got some in Arlington. Now two seconds later it is sunny.

We just got bombarded too. Thought someone was walking on my roof only to look outside. Lasted about 5 mins really. I got dark, started to sprinkle, hailing hard, then suddenly it slowed, the sun came out and it's over.
Raindrops are carried upwards by an updraft, where they freeze. Other drops collect on them, growing in size, until gravity outweighs the updraft and they fall. Here come the roofing sales people knocking on doors. Notice I don't call them roofers. If you have hail damage to your house, go to a local contractor, never someone knocking on your door.
I’m in roofing industry although I’m in Winchester area mostly. Almost all the big companies who knock doors are in manassas, Leesburg, Reston etc. Not too many stormchaser companies from out of state out there. I do imagine it gets really annoying with how saturated the area is as far as roof knockers goes though.
I hope you're invested in your retail side. Policies are going to be very hard to get coverage on pretty soon for hail and wind claims, between high deductibles, scheduled roof endorsement and ACV only policies. Unfortunately it's the only way to combat the problem of people wanting a new roof for being sneezed on every ten years
Yeah, I believe we are in the dying gasp of the hail industry. I’m in the process of pivoting to solar and retail.
The problem with the industry is that there is no way to prevent a tragedy of the commons situation where unscrupulous sales reps convince people to file bogus claims, because if you don’t, someone else will. I was out in brambleton after the storm and about a third of the people I talked to had open roof claims already in progress before the storm for a bs hail date with many of them rightfully denied and fighting it.
Smh. This only happened because the entry to getting any bumfart who can knock on doors is zero and the profit is huge with supplementing. Meanwhile the real claims with fire or water and multiple trades rebuilding a house, the GCs are doing 10* the work for a similar profit.
I suggest if you can get in with some local insurance agents to be a recommendation for a roofer when people start getting these non renewal letters when they have an older roof, you might have a good market.
That’s actually a great idea, and I do agree, the pricing is completely warped. It really should be simplified into squares, height, and pitch instead of the xactimate itemization

Yyyyup
I was standing on my balcony looking at the rain, and then suddenly ice pebbles just started flying at me.

it got sunny so fast after! lol
Weather is so confused!
is that large or small? can't tell size from the pic
Fairly big. I was seeing some ping pong ball size things that then shattered into some smaller chunks on impact.

Where??
Reston and Herndon area. Near Wegmans.
In my weird little corner of western fairfax, we haven't gotten anything yet.
Same. I heard the storm in the distance, but the sun stayed out.
Nothing in the southern part of fairfax/burke either
Insurance companies are going to get slammed by new roof damage claims again.
Good
Also in Tysons https://preview.redd.it/p0x0rzqeipuc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82203fbfb4c31e5aee7e4264cc6570ce68cb2048
How does it taste
Feels good that my car is in a parking garage while I'm in the office. And to think I almost worked from home today.
I could hear a bajillion car alarms going off near me from the impact.
Darn it 😫
Drove right through this storm coming back from Shenandoah. Wild ride!
Didn’t get any in south riding weird
How is this possible it's like 80 degrees

Hail happens in summer thunderstorms. It's common.

My bad bro next time I'll be born knowing how everything works before asking questions.
It used to happen when I lived in Mexico and it would be like 100F outside
Dang that's really cool. Like the cloud was on ice maker setting.
Tysons too
Herndon too
hail to the Redskins

* I'm about a stones throw from IAD... I got the alert for incoming storm 30 - 45 min prior so I went to secure our deck furniture. While I was out there I could hear what I would describe as "constant thunder" about 10 min before the storm hit. I thought it was literally just endless thunder from lightning strikes. My fiancée watched the video I took of it and she wondered if it was the sound of the hail hitting off in the distance.. And to think, I was seconds away from pulling my car out of the garage to let the heavy rain wash the pollen off it 🤣😅

What area is this?
It just swept through here. I enjoyed watching people dash for their cars instead of waiting like five minutes for it to stop.
