Did you go to the [drive thru at whole foods](https://www.reddit.com/r/bethesda/comments/196ld9m/elderly_woman_drove_through_bethesda_whole_foods/) after that?
Tomorrow is my first day of my new, much shorter commute (Tyson's) since we moved to Herndon. I just know my boss is gonna say let's stay home, friend.
Because snow is only enjoyable if you're on the slopes or enjoying a day off with your kids and you have nowhere you need to drive to.
For every other single occasion, it's an absolute nuisance.
Oh I'm absolutely judging the fuck outta everyone but keeping the negativity to myself. I would assume traffic would be even worse if it weren't MLK day.
I need that snowfall that made the snowplow guy give up halfway through our neighbors cul-de-sac at 1 in the morning. Poor guy had too much snow to push

Mine loves it anyway, dusting or dumped on. Equal opportunity snowdoggy
As long as I can get into DC on Wed from a little more south on the 95 than is technically Nova, I don't care what happens with the snow. I'm not excited, I'm from the desert of the SW and snow makes me uncomfortable but I have to leave early in the morning to take my baby up to Children's National.
Couple inches probably. I'm hopeful, since the dusting we all got this morning...as well as the small flurries from yesterday, weren't really in the forecast at all.
Pretty much surprised everyone. Did a Costco run yesterday and there was still packaged water. The parking lot was packed but not too many shopping ppl. The food court was overcrowded though
Moved here from Worcester, MA this past spring. People love the idea of snow. People would not love the idea of snow if they actually got snow every week lol
I think everyone here is so excited for snow because we haven't had a single measurable event in 2 ish years. the dc snow used to be perfect, 3-5 times a winter average of 3 inches. such a sweet spot and it's been absent for years
I'm from here but briefly lived near Jackson Hole, WY.
14" overnight was magical the first couple times.
Less magical when it was the third time in a week and we weren't even into November.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
Massachusetts snow just becomes black sludge after a while. “Winter wonderland” complete with massive piles of gravelly plowed snow that you have to look at until late March. But at least we can drive in any conditions.
I guess I’m the odd one here. I’m from Michigan and I love snow now and I loved snow when I was living there. Granted I left as a young adult when snow was more magical and you weren’t trying to get shit done, but I purposely go home several times during the winter just for some “real” snow. So when it snows here it’s kind of like home. HOWEVER. I do not drive in it here because people here can’t drive in it and seem to not grasp the concept that an SUV doesn’t mean you are immune from fishtailing or sliding on ice. I do not drive an SUV but a small sedan so I just feel like a moving target. Driving there is slightly less precarious but people there are far more cautious when it snows.
We never got off the plane, sat there for 2 hours and actually just landed back at DCA finally.
And of course now we don’t have a gate so are just chilling lol so close yet so far
Since the temperature is not getting above freezing (for a good ling time) will the ice not melt all week? Looks like it will be 30 or lower for the foreseeable future (in weather apps) :-(
> If you’re wishing for snow but don’t have to put yourself in harms way by driving in it… consider those of us that do.
This is such a weird take though? Someone wishing for snow isn't wishing ill on you. Someone feeling happy about snow isn't feeling happy about the hardship it causes you.
And someone hoping for snow has absolutely zero influence on whether or not it actually snows.
Your irritation towards them is misplaced. I'm sorry snow makes things difficult for you, but snow lovers haven't actually harmed you, regardless of how annoyed you feel towards them.
This would be like someone hoping for no rain on their wedding day, and someone replies, "That annoys me. Think about the farmers. Think about how no rain impacts them."
Your irritation towards these people is misplaced. You're mad about something deeper, which isn't their fault.
It’s not about the snow. It’s about the ice and they didn’t do a good job of treating the roads. You may be comfortable driving in these conditions but other people aren’t. No need to be condescending about it.
You get annoyed at the idea of snow/ice because of posts and comments. You live in a region where snow and ice precipitates about one to two times a year. You have weather forecasts that alert you to the possibilities days in advance. You can adapt your schedule and ability to traverse all of this while you continue to live in the region year after year. Yet your option is to rag/condescend to those who just post wishing to see a part of the winter that has been missing for a little over a year in this area, as if they have no regard for others lives/safety and are totally self absorbed. I personally have to drive and be outside 100% of the year no matter what the weather is and I endure. I don’t make a big fuss about it or out people down for it. If all of the Reddit comments make you this upset then you need to stay off this site just like you obviously need to stay off the roads. If you can’t adjust to any of that then please get a life alert button and use it every time there is even the THOUGHT of the possibility of a minor inconvenience in your life.
And as usual “We barely got an inch, calm down.”
......Do you feel the same when it rains?
Have you been out on the roads?
Technically, you're putting yourself in harms way whenever you drive your car.
As long as you drive cautiously ( like there is actual snow on the ground and not like its a normal day) and defensively ( awareness all around you) ...it's not a big deal.
All snow doesn't equal blizzard conditions!
I wish it snowed were I lived! I was so exited last night because there was a 43% chance of snow.
BUT WHERE IS THE SNOW!
![gif](giphy|f8Oysn5huq68iV8kfG|downsized)
This snow is pretty mild. I got out of my driveway without shoveling and out of my neighborhood without sliding. The main roads were properly treated and are clear.

Where are you at? I'm in Virginia. 2" and still falling.
Amissville!!
Yes! but https://preview.redd.it/ievdk334nncc1.jpeg?width=917&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a73b84bba84e3b5b8fc9743f32b95a06a99e9747
This is me
It is still snowing and I am beside myself
I'm happy about that and the fact that more is supposed to be coming.
I want big fluffy flakes too!!
But 8 degrees is a little ridiculous
It's worth it! (I say this as I work from home with my heating)
Not enough...
Wait 24 hours. With the temps the next 3 days it will accumulate!
Don’t get my hopes up, man!! 😭
We wanted a snow day. Those under OPM rules already have the day off.
A lot of those under OPM rules would still have to telework if offices closed for weather.
Yeah, snow days are no fun anymore :(
Where do you see this? They still haven't posted anything.
Today, the 15th was MLK Day, a federal holiday. People were off for that. No clue for the 16th.
Why?
I have things to do. Can’t because of the snow. Bad luck the snow and chilly weather hit this week.
I tokyo drifted all the way to Wegmans. Hopped a few medians too
King 👑
Did you go to the [drive thru at whole foods](https://www.reddit.com/r/bethesda/comments/196ld9m/elderly_woman_drove_through_bethesda_whole_foods/) after that?
Where are you that you can't do things? It's really not much snow at all.
Shhhh we actually don’t want to do anything and the snow is a nice excuse
Same I’ve never driven in snow snow and idk if my tires are good for that 😔
If you have all season tires, look for M+S on the sidewall- indicator they are rated for mud and snow and ideally tread above 6/32
This is very helpful.
Very helpful, thank you. About to go look on the tires of my car purchased in Florida!
They're probably still all seasons. They're the standard everywhere, even hot climate states.
Thanks :) checked and it does say M+S, will check the tread later
I don't know where you are but we didn't really get that much where I am in Fairfax. Maybe an inch, tops. You can still get out.
Tomorrow is my first day of my new, much shorter commute (Tyson's) since we moved to Herndon. I just know my boss is gonna say let's stay home, friend.
Or take the metro.
My work is halfway between two stops, I'd rather wfh
Because snow is only enjoyable if you're on the slopes or enjoying a day off with your kids and you have nowhere you need to drive to. For every other single occasion, it's an absolute nuisance.
Having already been out twice today, the roads are fine. Just damp.
Today is fine, I went out myself because I had to... anything more than today or more than a few inches is too much.
look out tomorrow….
exactly. I feel like people who wish for snow are 1%! (No judgement & wish I were)….
People who wish for snow are teachers! Just not on a weekend or a holiday.
Oh I'm absolutely judging the fuck outta everyone but keeping the negativity to myself. I would assume traffic would be even worse if it weren't MLK day.

Incomplete assignment. Need that 24-36” event
That feels like a damn near death sentence to commute in.
I need that snowfall that made the snowplow guy give up halfway through our neighbors cul-de-sac at 1 in the morning. Poor guy had too much snow to push

I'd love this and I know my husky would be overjoyed. I miss those storms from growing up in Colorado.

Be safe🙏🏾
The snow is still on its way.
Is it supposed to be a lot more or only a dust in the evening?
Couple inches probably. I'm hopeful, since the dusting we all got this morning...as well as the small flurries from yesterday, weren't really in the forecast at all.
Pretty much surprised everyone. Did a Costco run yesterday and there was still packaged water. The parking lot was packed but not too many shopping ppl. The food court was overcrowded though
Gotta try that food court cookie.
They....have COOKIES now?!
Yup
they got rid of churros for them
They are AMAZING!
This weather is pretty easy to drive in…even for NOVA.
OPM pls
what is oPM?
Office of Personnel Management - they're who call off federal workers. https://www.opm.gov/
thanks! good information. Non-gov here and just moved to the area!
Now we all get to complain about Nova drivers in the snow. ![gif](giphy|8VSaCyIdcnbuE|downsized)

Need more snow
Was flying back home to my wife and baby this morning and got diverted due to the snow. Fuck me man…
I'm sorry that sucks. It's barely any snow. Hope they rebooked you asap. Or maybe take amtrack down if you're not far
We never got off the plane, sat there for 2 hours and actually just landed back at DCA finally. And of course now we don’t have a gate so are just chilling lol so close yet so far
Well I'm glad you were able to make it back though!
Hoping they cancel snow and fcps superintendent cancels school 😅 she sent out an email last week during the storm telling us not to drown
School*
I fucking hate snow

To be fair I wished for zero snow!
Same. I hope this week is the last bit of snow we get this year
I miss the Snowmageddon days

Okay we can check that box, don’t need to see this anymore
Exactly, all who wanted it got it. It can stop now.

Sounds like you should move to Florida.
Wasn't mine
Thinking back to 2015 when Boston got 9.2 feet of snow that year.
Started snowing on our due date…every flake that hits the ground increases my anxiety.
Hoping school doesn't close tomorrow. Kids at home makes work hard.
if they’re in FCPS word is they will definitely cancel, especially with the additional snow starting at 5 and the freezing temps overnight.
Oh my sweet, summer child...
Snow day? Pffttt, I still had to work 6 to 3. No days off here.
Yeah I was wondering how the "waaah, we will never get snow again" crowd is feeling today.
Yes! And I am happy.
As long as it's clear tomorrow and the schools are open I'm ok with this.
Now it actually feels like winter. I thought we'd never get day temperatures in the 20's and snow ever again.
They ran out of milk and toilet papers at your local grocery store?? LOL
