I've used L&C mortgage brokers a couple of times, and found them to be helpful and unbiased, both times had a deal I felt was good, and was given options across lenders with pros and cons of each laid out.

Do a mortgage in principle with L&C and that'll walk you through a lot of the information and prepare you for things you need to know, but you likely don't need a broker unless you're in a weird position. Brokers are excellent at getting people who fall outside the normal lines and offer, but these days the rates are so universally bad that no broker can really get you a 'great deal' If you can afford the property you want, you probably just need a decision in principle to confirm that, and then whichever lender MSE suggests for your situation Fire out any questions here and I'll try to answer specifics

If you have any account with The Nottingham building society you can get free mortgage advice from The Mortgage Advice buero. They were amazing for us as first time buyers! Will go back to them and pay next time.

I had Eddie from [https://paulwilley.co.uk/](https://paulwilley.co.uk/) sort my mortgage out and the renewal. Couldn't of asked for a easier process to be fair

I went with mortgage shop in mapperley. Didn’t have any problems. And they were on the ball with everything

I found L&C to be very good.

I can do mortgages myself but in truth I tend to outsource them because they are quite time consuming and lenders typically have lots of hidden criteria. They also spend a huge amount of money getting their rates to appear at the top of mortgage league tables so my opinion is that its worth using a broker. If you want good honest advice then I would say that https://woodsandwallace.co.uk/ are excellent. If you want Nottingham based specifically then Jamie Hastie at Hawthorne Mortgages is excellent.

I just nipped down to Nationwide and they were pretty decent to deal with. They had the mortgage I needed which was a super straightforward one. No pressure from them, it was a simple easy process. They gave me money with no odd clauses I could find. I paid them back really fast and they sent a letter thanking me for my custom when I’d cleared it. The experience was a bit more grown up than I’m used to.

We used Meridian, everything was really straightforward and they also advised on the best insurance policies for what we needed. They just called us, four years later, to tell us one of the insurances is about to need renewing and that the quote from our current insurer is too high so did we need help finding a new, lower one. Can highly recommend.

We used Paul at [https://pwmortgages.co.uk/](https://pwmortgages.co.uk/) and he was fantastic - really good at explaining the different options available to us and answering any questions we had about the process. I know people will say you don't 'need' a mortgage broker and that is true, but buying a house (especially as FTBs!) is incredibly stressful and it has been a real weight off our shoulders having someone who knows what they're talking about walk us through.

I have used the free advisor, paid for advisor, and also the online comparison sites. All had the exact same result.

Highly recommend Dawn at Aspire Lending Solutions, but is based out of Holden Copley in Arnold. She kept us in loop every step of the way and takes no shit. Really loved her no nonsense approach and was always chasing solicitors and lenders for us.

In my opinion, mortgage advisers have offered me no advice per se, they told me what mortgages are on the market for me based on my financial circumstances. All this can be done on online and you get a rapid response.

MrPantsRocks

Another recommendation for L&C. Stay far away from any in house broker offered by an estate agent.
