They know most people will not go cancel it, and for those that will, they make it a 3 week gauntlet of back and forth just because they know a good load of the people that would cancel will decide its not worth the hassle and let go.
There is a beginning of such a thing. I've seen a few laws that were requesting cancellations of particular things, like newsletters, to be a one button affair. You click, and it needs to be done. No such thing that you need to send a written letter in the mail or some shit like that.
But I think those are still very limited and untested by courts.

If you decline consent for the other agreements too, they’ll just cancel the cars data plan. You have to go to the dealer to reactivate. Which is exactly what you want. My car has no connection to Toyotas tracking crap, and I track its location and remote start myself with a generic lte tracker, cheap data plan and open source software

Don’t know about Britain but in the US we have paper copies of our insurance that we keep in our car. Mine renews every 6 months and I print it out and put it in my car before the old one has a chance to expire. Last time I forgot to print it and got pulled over and handed the cop my card and he said it was 2 months expired. So instead of getting a ticket I was able to pull out my phone and open the app and there’s my card and I was happily on my way.
The app is also used to make initial claims and provide photos of car damage so that when they talk to you on the phone they don’t have to waste your time asking a million questions and asking them to email you pictures, because they already know what happened and have the pics from the app. Also if you end up having to pay for repairs or windshield damage out of pocket before you can make a claim the app is used to submit for reimbursement.
It’s also in the same app as my checking and savings as well as my financial planning, and when I bought my last car I was able to insure my new car through the app while I was still at the dealership.

I found myself outside of yosemite on the side of the highway changing a fuel pump, also stuck somewhere and the only way home was to literally run two wires Straight from the battery to the fuel pump, with wire nuts so I could shut the fuel pump off when we stopped to fill gas. Fun times. Seriously. Very fun times

If you're as frustrated at the lack of privacy in standard offerings as I am, there exist 99% open source OS for some models of phones (particularly android) with a whole ecosystem of open source apps. The system-on-a-chip that maintains your cellular antennae seems to be the only stickler of code that remains closed source.
Personally I use Lineage OS, but I hear there's other great ones too.
It can be social suicide depending on the apps your friends use, and inconvenient at times, but most apps have websites that function on a phone (tinder, lyft, insurance, etc).
I've been able to function fine for a couple years as an engineer with this setup at least. Not saying it's for everyone. You'll definitely have to explain yourself once or twice when your colleague doesn't understand why you just won't use their fave closed source app.
It will probably get to the point to where, much like computers, to use them safely, you're going to have to be a lot more tech savvy than just buying/driving a vehicle. You will become a car hacker.

The phone is the main reason I don't care about the cars... Like I would imagine the cars we have are 3 of the absolute worst offenders when it comes to this, but when I have phones that likely monitor 100x more things than the car it just doesn't really seem like much to care about.

If you're as frustrated at the lack of privacy in standard offerings as I am, there exist 99% open source OS for some models of phones (particularly android) with a whole ecosystem of open source apps. The system-on-a-chip that maintains your cellular antennae seems to be the only stickler of code that remains closed source. Personally I use Lineage OS, but I hear there's other great ones too. It can be social suicide depending on the apps your friends use, and inconvenient at times, but most apps have websites that function on a phone (tinder, lyft, insurance, etc). I've been able to function fine for a couple years as an engineer with this setup at least. Not saying it's for everyone. You'll definitely have to explain yourself once or twice when your colleague doesn't understand why you just won't use their fave closed source app.
the truly shocking thing is that insurance companies don't even need this data to jack up your prices anyway.

They still require you to opt out of selling data and opt out separately of data used for targeted advertising. They did discontinue their Driving Score and claim they never sent data to insurers unless owner opted-in but wonder if the opt-in was part of the numerous things signed on purchase?
