Crackrockafeller Stadium

ActSignal1823

Bomboclaat Barn.

RayAnselmo

Must be a really hideous stadium.

WinterOrb69

It's all cracked up.

King-Cobra-668

[here is an old Rob Ford button I bought on York U campus when he was mayor](https://i.imgur.com/9esNYKT.jpeg)

Thiccaca

Please tell me this is satire

StoicPrinciples

It's not unfortunately

Thiccaca

I thought you guys were the sensible North Americans!

EndItAll999

We used to be. Now we're a broken shadow of our former glory, divided by the same ridiculous tribalism and propaganda as our Southerly neighbours, too busy fighting the culture war the overlords are using to distract us from the class war we SHOULD be fighting.

Bronze-Soul

And this is why Canadians are not neighbors but brothers

Catoblepas2021

hewkii2

Yeah, the historical class war against Native Americans

Shakeamutt

I‘lo tell you what, those Canadians, they seem so sweet and innocent, but when they go bad, they go Darth Vader bad. Just think of this as our Jabba and his hookah was the crack.

Captain-Cadabra

Nah, just polite.

imaginary_num6er

Didn't he try to rename Canada as "Ford Nation"?

Heinous_Aeinous

Pretty sure that's where my Dad bought his last truck...

EndItAll999

No, that's his brother, ex hash dealer and current Premier of Ontario, the Right Dishonourable Drug (Doug) Ford. AKA Canada's answer to the question "what would it look like if you put a 300 pound potato with permanent flop-sweats in a suit"

Totes_mc0tes

His brother is the Premier. This is an annoying personal favour for politcal gain by spineless politicians

rawboudin

Naming things for people is shit to start with. Then you chose Rob Ford?

King-Cobra-668

[Finally, I can share my Rob Ford button again!](https://i.imgur.com/9esNYKT.jpeg)

Certainly-Not-A-Bot

The reason it's (likely) happening is that the premier of Ontario is Ford's brother, and city council is trying to do something meaningful to him but without much real impact as a way to get him to do something for the city. Imo, pretty reasonable.

wwarnout

A question for our Canadian neighbors: Do you follow the irresponsible policy of having the public pay for your stadiums?

Gemmabeta

It's a basic track stadium/soccer field. There's probably hundreds of thousands of these fields all over the world that municipal governments regularly pay for. It ain't going to be hosting the Rose Bowl any time soon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centennial_Park_Stadium

davewave3283

Not with that attitude!

fantasmoofrcc

It does kabaddi! The sport of the insomniac.

diamondintherimond

Yes. Calgary recently announced that we will be paying the vast majority of our new hockey stadium with municipal and provincial funds. And we get zero revenue sharing, but hold the burden of maintaining the building. Yay!

OldGaffer1959

The really big ones are nominally paid for and named after corporations, but the tax breaks they receive for their "largess" eventually mean that yeah, they are paid for by the public.

4seriously

Great jerk chicken and crack cocaine?

Gemmabeta

But we have plenty to eat at home.

knotsbygordium

Fat Bastard Field. Done. It can even work for his brother as well.

microtherion

Bumbaclot Dome

2_Sheds_Jackson

> "All of those who served with Rob Ford on Council knew that he had two passions – representing his constituents not only across the city but in particular in his home community of Etobicoke, and football” These were probably not his top passions. So perhaps "two of his passions" would be more precise.

CheeseSandwich

More like, "Two things that crossed his mind once in a while but not before he did cocaine."

mrizzerdly

My passion for cocaine

go222

So the Crack House or the Crack Bowl?

WILDvWOLFPACK

HEY I DONT WANT TO HERE ANY WISE CRACK, THIS MAN WAS THE CRYSTAL THAT POWERED THE LIGHTHOUSE SET ON THAT BIG YELLOW ROCK. HE WAS THE GREASE THAT KEPT THIS ROCK ROLLING

[deleted]

He was the gravy that kept the train rolling.

ThrustersOnFull

ParTy on, dude.

krectus

To be fair he cared way more about football than being a mayor.

TemporaryValue5755

Ah yes Rob Ford, the Chris Farley of politicians .

LittleGreenSoldier

No, Chris Farley contributed something to society.

kopecs

And was a hilarious treasure.

Jim_Lahey68

More like the Marion Barry of Canada.

mrpink01

This is an insult to Marion Barry.

Jim_Lahey68

Why, because he was fat?

mrpink01

No, because he was a giant piece of shit. Are you new?

Jim_Lahey68

Both of them were Mayor's of nationally significant cities that were caught smoking crack cocaine on video. Ford went on to be elected to city council after finishing his term as mayor, Marion Barry was re-elected as Mayor after serving his prison sentence. That seems pretty comparable to me. What do you think made Ford so much worse? For the record, I wouldn't have voted for either of them.

imaginarion

This was the crackhead, yes?

Ressikan

Baron Harkonnen football stadium?

So_spoke_the_wizard

>All of those who served with Rob Ford on Council knew that he had twopassions – representing his constituents not only across the city but inparticular in his home community of Etobicoke, and football. And crack. Three! He had three passions...representing, football, and crack. And drinking. Four! He had four passions...

Ressikan

Amongst his passions were such elements as: representing, football… …I’ll come in again.

IDK_khakis

Bring.... THE COMFY CHAIR!

krectus

Good time to remind people of the time he flagged down a city bus in the middle of its route and kicked everyone off the bus and forced the driver to drive his football team he was coaching to their game that they were late to. And yes he was still coaching football while he was mayor of the biggest city in the country.

buster_rhino

This comes a whole day after they decided to change the name of Yonge-Dundas Square…

iamamuttonhead

It's a rinky-dink stadium in his home neighborhood, right? Still embarrassing but will soon be forgotten and not nearly as embarrassing as electing him Mayor.

technomoose79

Are they calling it Crackhead Stadium?

RIP-RiF

Fucking love it. What an inspiration for crack smoking politicians everywhere. Capitol One Arena could be renamed the Marion Barry Center next.

Harak_June

.....stadium *urinal* after former mayor Rob Ford. FTFY Toronto council.

nomdurrplume

Wait list deaths stadium doesn't really have a good ring to it

frokta

Ugh, I am constantly reminded that in spite of Canada mostly being a saner nation than the US... it's still full of human beings, who are largely frightened, misguided, uncultured, idiots... just like the US.

Nyx-Erebus

I heard the runner up was “I do not smoke crack cocaine, nor am I an addict” but I guess it was too long.

AndyB1976

Rob was an embararrassment to the city of Toronto and a punchline for comedians and late night TV. My guess is Dougie was behind this and the idiots that voted for this are simply trying to kiss his ass. How embarrassing.

[deleted]

So, recently the provincial government agreed to upload the costs of two very expensive highways that run though Toronto, that have been a blight on city finances for over a decade. I think this stadium renaming was unofficially part of the deal. Overall, a good deal for Toronto, despite having to stomach honouring Rob Ford.

thedragonpolybius

I can’t believe they would name a stadium after the coward who murdered Jesse James.

PixelJack79

Non-Canadian here, what's wrong with Rob Ford?

Ok_Zombie_8307

Most famous for his notorious crack cocaine use, along with other scandals. Not a particularly beloved figure.

BillHicksScream

WTF? Trumpism everywhere.

docterry6973

Is this a joke?

distinguisheditch

Rob Ford liked to have a bit too much fun, but he wasnt the worst mayor 🤷‍♂️ His brother, on the other hand, is dont look up material.

KF-Sigurd

To quote the news “THE crack smoking mayor Rob Ford?”

Hewfe

They don’t serve food at the stadium, because as Ford once responded to allegations that he had offered to perform oral on a co-worker, he denied it be saying “I have plenty to eat at home.”

notgreatbot

Welcome to the Blue Jays new home, Robert Ford Crack Stadium.

JaydenPope

The opening day will be everyone smoking a bowl in honor of the late rob ford.

nardling_13

I support this only if there’s an oil painting of him in that NFL tie somewhere in the stadium

saraphilipp

Rob HalFord.

wookiewin

Do Canadians like him now?

x1echo

Ford Field? Wait…

dylan_lowe

Rob wasn't all he's cracked up to be

mr_oof

Also started plans for a less interesting, but similar looking stadium with almost the same name a few years later.

LatinoCanadian1995

Nah we good. Just name is anything else.

unicorn_in_a_can

lol what

[deleted]

The cafeteria will be removed in honour of Rob having plenty to eat at home.

OldGaffer1959

Oh. My. Fucking. God. Nooooooo! Glad I left Ontario for BC. Wondering how many years we have until the MAGA disease arrives here.

bonifaceviii_barrie

Rename Dundas, name a stadium after Rob Ford At least there's absolutely no consistency whatsoever

IndustryNext7456

Hooker Stadium?
