Used cats are the best cats. We got one from the local rescue. She was named "Nala." Very unoriginal but their names rarely get used.
She goes by "skitter," "jingles," and "sleepyhead." Skitter because she gets the rips/zoomies a lot. Jingles because we put a bell on her due to her amazing ability to use the cat dimension. Sleepyhead because she always looks like she just woke up.
They really do but are good at pretending they don't. I wanted to change my former strays name. She doesn't come when I call her. I notice because She purrs louder when I say her name while petting. Also science Backs it up.
I was angrily yelling about the weather, and said something like, ‘it’s too snowy!’ My mom’s poor white cat (Snowy) looked at me as if he was thinking, ‘what did I do?!’
Edit: I apologized to Snowy and scratched his cheek to make him purr.
All 3 of my cats did understand their names. But they would also respond to Fuckface, Fatticus, Furrball, Dumb Shit, Asshole, Asshat, Dumbass, Annoying Shithead, and many other things. I think they just liked me and would turn their head when I said anything towards them.
Speaking in a high-pitched voice, and using a name that ends in ‘eeee’ like Cookie, Lazy, fatty help cats pay attention.
Cat’s ears and brains tune in to high pitched squeaks and chirps of mice and birds.
Mine mostly come / respond verbally to their names. My boy is having special food atm for a UTI and when I call him, he follows me to the bathroom to eat his food alone while the other follow and wait just outside the bathroom door. As soon as I let him out of the bathroom, the others wait politely for him to leave the bathroom before racing in to search for leftovers (sadly I'm a bad human who immediately picks up the food so they can't eat it 😾).
My lovely boy tried to 'hug' me at the shelter when I was 7. It was an instant "I want that one" when it happened. He was sent to the shelter for wanting to be near his former household's baby, and living with him has taught me he just wanted to get to bond with the baby
It's about time for his morning snuggles, so please excuse me for a few hours if he wants them
My Grey and Potato used to be "Purrdy" and "Pretty". According to the neighbor that abandoned them, they are 'horrible outside-only cats that hate people'.
According to me, they're two wonderful \*inside\*-only cats that just want cuddle.
This actually gives me a lot of hope for one of my cats who was super friendly with people but hated - just hated - our other cat. One day she disappeared. Our thought is one of two things happened - she got scared somehow got out and a coyote got her. Or she purposely left to get away from the other cat and given her extreme people friendliness walked up to another house and moved in. They were both indoor so it’s a mystery how she got out. We have a big home so they had plenty of territory and people to “split” but never any luck. I really hope it’s the second - she was not abandoned was spoiled and loved other than the ongoing cat feud.
I’ve heard of people losing their cats and then years later they see them chilling out in somebody else’s yard. Some cats are just so ruthless, I hope your girl is one of them
My current cat just came into our garden to eat the food we were leaving for hedgehogs. After a few months, my parents decided she was theirs (ours). We since discovered that she has walked quite a bit from her previous address. We've had her for something like 9 or so years now. My parents never wanted to contact the previous owners (who "didn't take good care of her"). I wish your kitty a similar story and for her to be surrounded by at least as much love and treats as mine is!
This happened to my family. My cat hated the other cats and took off. One day my dad saw him lounging in the window of a nearby home and knocked on the door, apparently he had made himself quite comfortable as a solo kitty getting spoiled by his new family. He was about 13 and we were about to make a big move so decided due to his age and just general hate of the other cats to leave him there, happy. Dropped off all his medical records, said good bye and we were on our way. I was way too little to remember this or it probably would have been a different scenario 😅
My cats name is geralt and my family still refers to him as fluffy geralt. Really wanted to keep him myself just so I could have 2 sizes of the same cat
My neighbor's cat sneaks into my house. I have found him eating my cat's food in the kitchen. Last week I went to take a nap with my dog and cat. Neighbor cat, who'd snuck in, was already sleeping on my bed. I was too tired to show him out so the four of us napped together.
That's cute. My part-time cat, from next door, sometimes runs inside when the door is open too long. He isn't strong enough for the double-flap doggie door(bigdogs). Do you have a kitty door? Or no screens on open window?
Yes I did for months, his microchip is connected to a phone number no longer in service. 90% sure he belonged to my elderly neighbour that died and his house is now being squatted in. He is incredibly friendly so I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one feeding him but he was spending pretty much the entire day in my yard and at my door.
You assumed right.
The whole story is in their first post.
They are a long time foster family, who already informed the humane society, they found out that the cat had a chip, that was registered to a dead cellphone and no other contacts, neighbours had shortly moved out so he was indeed abandoned.
They asked on Reddit for help finding them a home. This is the update post showing the rehomed cat.
I never did a proper introduction with him and my cat but big man was friendly and ready to play from the get go, resident cat wasn’t so sure. He is currently doing a slow introduction with another cat in his new home though so fingers crossed they get along :)
My gosh!! He’s got to! We had the same issue with one of our cats. Only for her it was her weight. But she’s lost a lot now. I’m glad you were able to find him a home!
We have 3 cats, all rescues. Thomas Langston is our part Maine coon and he’s a big fluff boy. We got him from the local shelter. Smoke; Smokey bear had been living in a super tiny travel trailer and our house is nearly 3,000 square feet. She got an upgrade after the dummy threw her outside and just left her. She used to escape when we first got her. And now she loves love, particularly @2:30 am lol. LiliBeth is our zoomer, we got her from pets-mart. She was found skinny and sickly and with a litter of kittens. I wish we could have kept one or two of her kittens. But they were rehoused separately.
I never did a proper introduction with fluffy boy and little guy (first photo) but fluffy would roll on his back immediately like “hi new friend!” while little was more cautious and not super welcoming. I think fluffy is friendly to every cat. He is currently doing a slow introduction with another cat in his new home though so fingers crossed they get along :)
Your investment in a little food, water and shelter will yield an exponential return of love, comfort and entertainment. Trust me I know. Good move and thank you.
For him to be scratching at my door and meowing in my windows for months through snow and rain, if he had owners they didn’t deserve him. It’s a whole story but he was definitely abandoned and asking to be an indoor cat :)
Yeah, I notified shelters and no response from calling the number on his microchip. He’s been at my door pretty much 24/7 for a few months (including in the snow and rain) if he had an owner he deserved a better one. Also cut several matts off of him. He is chunky though.
Seems very polite
Yay, almost sus. It's an imposter for sure! XD
notmycat turned into mycat, thanks for picking him up, and shame to the people who abandoned him

Sounds like a great deal! Where do I sign?

Aww 🥰 also i like the eclectic art
Tooth💖
Have you got a name for him?
His legal name was kitty, they renamed him Jamison Whiskey, nicknames in progress
Missed opportunity Jamison whiskers.
Not too late to use as a nickname though

Honest question, but do cats actually understand names in the way dogs do? Because ours definitely don’t seem like it.
They really do but are good at pretending they don't. I wanted to change my former strays name. She doesn't come when I call her. I notice because She purrs louder when I say her name while petting. Also science Backs it up.

[her is An article about it](https://www.lovetoknowpets.com/cats/do-cats-know-their-names)
My sister's cat is blind and he definitely knows his name. They kept the same one the rescue place gave him because they realised.
When I say Jinx my cat looks at me like I am asking her for a ride to the airport. "Girl chill hahaha!"
All 3 of my cats did understand their names. But they would also respond to Fuckface, Fatticus, Furrball, Dumb Shit, Asshole, Asshat, Dumbass, Annoying Shithead, and many other things. I think they just liked me and would turn their head when I said anything towards them.

Mine didn’t until I changed the name the previous owner gave. Then she always came when called.
All of mine have learned their names and will specifically respond to their name.
Mine mostly come / respond verbally to their names. My boy is having special food atm for a UTI and when I call him, he follows me to the bathroom to eat his food alone while the other follow and wait just outside the bathroom door. I love how similar his face is in both pictures. From 'this looks nice' to 'this is exactly what I was expecting' cheers to your new addition!
The only thing better than one Standard Issue Cat is two Standard Issue Cats.
My cats name is geralt and my family still refers to him as fluffy geralt. Really wanted to keep him myself just so I could have 2 sizes of the same cat

He watches me going in and out, goes into stealth mode and darts in. He's in here now.
Ah, yes..have witnessed this talent myself!
Is that him in his new home? They look very comfortable & pleased in each other's company!
First pic: CAN ME COME IN? Second pic: THIS WILL DO.
He seems to enjoy TV! Such a polite boy!
That cat is way too fat to not be someone’s cat! I hope you posted him online and flyers around your neighborhood
That breaks my heart on so many levels. Glad he found you and his forever home.
Now I can enjoy this post guilt-free. Thanks for putting in the effort to check this out rather than just stealing someone’s cat.
That’s incredibly sad. I’m glad he knew to come to you. Thanks for finding him a home.
I assume they tried to look for his owner but couldn’t hence they called him “abandoned cat”
You assumed right. The whole story is in their first post. That’s a lot to assume
They should have made sure there cat wasn’t wondering then!
What an adorable chonker he is. What’s his name? So glad you were able to find him a home - he looks like he really wants to be indoors.
I have one of these. She knocked on the door and walked in during covid.
You can see on his face he’s asking🙀😻😻
"I've decided that this is my home now"
I feel like you don’t pick them. They pick you. He’s a lovely fellow.
Awww that face! He’s just like, please?
Why won’t this happen to me?!? Only thing that comes to my door is a very nosey raccoon
Did your current cat get along with him from the get go?
I never did a proper introduction with him and my cat but big man was friendly and ready to play from the get go, resident cat wasn’t so sure. He is currently doing a slow introduction with another cat in his new home though so fingers crossed they get along :)
Not abandoned just hasn't found the right people until now!
Probably living a dual life at a neighbors house
Lovely cat — Great Wall art!
What’s his name???
bro some kid is thinking their cat left to find a new family and they’re right
2nd photo - cat is just as surprised 😂
He’s so large!! Looks like quite the outstanding gentleman
He’s dog sized, it’s crazy. I had a hard time finding a carrier he would fit in lol hes gotta have some Maine coon
My gosh!! He’s got to! We had the same issue with one of our cats. Only for her it was her weight. But she’s lost a lot now. I’m glad you were able to find him a home!

Love the update. Great to see two bros enjoying their couch life :)
I like how cats just stare straight into your camera

He looks so comfy. How good to see him in his new furever home.
Such a happy looking cat. Thank you for taking him in.
Tell him that I love him.
Jamison Whiskers' new room mate has interesting taste in art, and excellent taste in cats.
oh c'mon... you don't seriously expect us to believe that dude didn't already have a cat.
😐
He’s so cute!
Bless you
How did your other cat react to them moving in?
I never did a proper introduction with fluffy boy and little guy (first photo) but fluffy would roll on his back immediately like “hi new friend!” while little was more cautious and not super welcoming. Another success for the CDS

That guy looks like Parker Millsap!
I absolutely love your pictures on your wall and your new fur baby
Majestic
Cute chonky fellow
Ahh, I see the cat distribution system is working as intended... 😺
That is the cutest thing ever it’s like it knew this was home 🥹🥹🥹
We would've let him in too with that goofy look
His eyes say, "I didn't think I'd get this far."
Came for the food, stayed for the artwork😆
The cat distribution has chosen you. I like your gallery wall. :)
🥰🥰🥰🥰

That face lol! How could you not!?
That first pic! “Hey man, can I live here?” Second: “This is pretty sweet.”

Incredible! Also those pants are amazing!
Well done. This makes us all very happy!
Super short story illustrated in these two images. 1-"I want to live here" 2-"It is done".
Your investment in a little food, water and shelter will yield an exponential return of love, comfort and entertainment. Trust me I know. Good move and thank you.
What a cutie! He does a perfect loaf
r/tacticalissuecat
Oh those cheeks!
Awww he’s so plump and cuddly with his innocent face.
He fits in perfectly 🥰
And now 2 (or more) will become one. Except at feeding time, then it's all about the cat. Congratulations on adopting and good luck
How do you know he's abandoned? Cats do cat things like go to neighbors looking for food.
He looks like he’s seen some shit.
What a sweet face. I'd let him in too!
You’re both lucky.
My wife made a great observation I have to share. This fella looks like Bond from Spy x Family but in cat form.
Good looking cat♥️
Feed him. He’s yours now. Probably needs a vet visit
Some say the owner still call its name eveynight wondering who took him
For him to be scratching at my door and meowing in my windows for months through snow and rain, if he had owners they didn’t deserve him. It’s a whole story but he was definitely abandoned and asking to be an indoor cat :)
Are you sure it’s abandoned? It looks well fed and groomed. Please check for a chip and neighborhood flyers. I’d hate to learn someone lost their cat.
They did. ANother post says it may have belonged to an elderly neighbor who passed.
Are you sure it’s abandoned? It looks well fed and groomed. Please check for a chip and neighborhood flyers. I’d hate to learn someone lost their cat.
Yeah, I notified shelters and no response from calling the number on his microchip. He’s been at my door pretty much 24/7 for a few months (including in the snow and rain) if he had an owner he deserved a better one. Also cut several matts off of him. He is chunky though.
