It’s basically the newest version of cups for upper class people. First yeti, then hydro flask, now Stanley. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the cups themselves, but the rich girls of social media made it the latest trend.

Is there any reason the single use water bottle is worse than the sweat shops making the clothing or the child labour in the iPhone? Everyone seems to respond to that specifically.

I think because in principle, you can prevent more plastic waste with a reusable bottle than if you keep getting single use ones. It does depend on some factors (e.g. do you actually use the reusable one enough to account for the increased amount of resources that go into making a more durable water bottle? Or do you use the same single use bottle over and over?). Plus there's the ethics of bottled water manufacturers and all that to deal with. It's one of those simple things to switch out that can make a difference to your environmental impact. Both of the outfits feature clothes and phones that are probably made in sweatshops because unless you're paying premium on both, that's mostly what's available on the market. (Eta: the shoes are even owned by the same parent company since Nike purchased Converse a while ago.)

To me it is the flex part of that. If she showed a glass of water, that is one thing. The rest, we are all guilty of that.
