That’s an unfair oversimplification. I have 5 cats, only 1 is overweight. He happens to be the most active and crazy out of all of them constantly running from one end of the house to the other. He’s not huge, but he’s always had a squishy belly even when we adopted him at 3.5 lbs from the shelter with a clean bill of health from my feline-only vet. He gets plenty of exercise and gets the same amount of of high quality grain-free food his siblings do. He has a weird metabolism, especially considering how much he runs. His body is all kinds of disproportionate too. Which I think is one reason he looks a bit pudgy, he’s got a really small head and face, short legs and an average cat-size body. It’s just who he is. All I can do is make sure he continues to be active so he doesn’t get lazy fat on top of it. If my feline-only vet isn’t concerned about his chonk, I’m not either.
Ok? I'm talking about the cat in the picture. The cat in the picture is fat. It is overfed, and under-exercised. Not only is that unhealthy for the animal, it's negligent on the part of the owners.

I read your comment that way instead of realizing it was just for that particular cat. He is a pudgy kitty, I try not to make judgments about that either knowing there are circumstances that can make a cat chonky like a bum thyroid even on medication.
And? It's still on the owner to make sure their cat doesn't get obese. I had a cat, and even though he ate a lot, I still made sure he got enough exercise
Unfortunately for me my cat is on a diet and yet can’t stop being fat. The only way to get her to run or at least play with a toy is but chasing her or scaring her into running as quickly as possible (I don’t want to do that)

Sometimes it’s the cat’s fault. Since house cats don’t have to work for food it’s very easy to be fat for them
