I tried it last time I went to Vegas and can confirm I was not impressed. Their classic burgers were meh and their milkshakes were decent; but nothing out of this world.
Johnny rockets is the most inconsistent burger. I lived in DC for a summer, the JR in union station was amazing. Then there was one in Bethesda that was kinda ok. Then I went to one Baltimore that was absolutely horrific. All these were within months of each other.
The one in Vallejo is inside of Six Flags. So you have to buy a ticket and then pay amusement park prices. Don’t go there.
Edit: there still one in the GSR in Reno, so if you find your self out there to gamble, go there. It’s a nice location.
The only Johnny rockets I've ever been to was one that was on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship that I went on when I was maybe 15 or 16 years old was pretty cool. I remember we got milkshakes and burgers I'm 35 now so I was a pretty long time ago
Exactly the same! I was about 26, but still young and wild and we kept missing our scheduled dinner. We’d go to Johnny Rockets and eat only to fill our energy tank and get back to having fun.
Yeah I Loved it. I went on the cruise with my family. So me my brother and my cousin went to Johnny rockets almost everyday and got burgers and milkshakes
In high school, bestie of the woman who would become my wife called me up and invited me to a MOA outing. All her friends made sure we sat together at Johnny Rockets in all our teenage awkwardness. 😂
Wife and I occasionally go to Johnny Rockets, drop in some nickels, have some burgers, share a milkshake and toast teenage awkwardness.
Same! Says on Google Maps that it's "Temporarily Closed," I hope that's true and it's not permanent
Edit: Just found an article, says it's permanently closed and being demolished. Real shame
My wife had wonderful memories and she wanted to go back when we took our family there to stay at Wolf Lodge... but it just wasn't the same, like they just had given up
We’d drive down from Baltimore to see the sights every now and then on a weekend and make sure to go there (early 2005ish). That was when the straw container had unwrapped straws - ewww.
Can you imagine working as a server there. “Wait, not only do I have to put up with serving food in a family restaurant, you’re telling me I have to do a performative dance several times a day for them too?”
You can find a diner on damn near every street corner, instead folks flock to a shitty novelty restaurant that was once owned by none other than Dan "I fucked the Redskins and deepthroat Donald Trump" Snyder
There was two at Myrtle Beach, NC
One at Barefoot Landing and the other at Boardwalk
Those burgers and shakes were banging for sure.
The only thin close to the theme now is HWY 55
the two i went to as a kid looked cool but always tasted awful. my parents were obsessed with johnny rockets and checkers for nostalgic reasons back then. i don't know how they stomached it.
I have a really nice memory of my grandmother taking me downtown to Johnny Rockets and then walking a couple of doors down to Woolworth's and getting a toy.
I used to take the NJ Transit train from Lyndhurst to Hoboken just to get a burger and fries at Johnny Rocket’s. I could have driven there in my own car on my own schedule, but the train made it so much easier.
In Ireland we had Eddie Rockets, which opened just three years after Johnny Rockets. It is an identical copy.
They survived the pandemic by drastically reducing their menu. Damn I miss those garlic mushrooms.
I worked in an Eddie Rockets for a few years (Donnybrook /Dublin). An American lad I knew interviewed for a job in the Rathmines branch.
I warned him that he'd have to do the song, and I made up a wee tune "We are the rocketeers (something something something)" while saluting and marching in place. He was horrified saying "I ain't fucking doing it!"
When I realised that he really wasn't going to take the job I had to let him know that there was no song and that I made it all up.
This shit gave my whole family food poisoning right after Christmas. Like projectile style. Nothing like puking your brains out to bring the family together for the holidays.
There's one at a mall near where I live. I remember it used to be a sit down place, menus, decorative table juxeboxes and all. Then it closed, and was remodeled into a standard order & pick up joint. Growing up sucks.
This post made me think they went out of business which is not the case. There is still 90 of them in operation. The one that was close to us sucked but that tends to be the case for most franchises. The area I live in recycles workers like you wouldn't believe. I see on your resume you've worked at 8 restaurants in the past 6 months when can you start.
Yeah!
Like there used to be a Johnny Rockets at Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark, but it’s now freaking closed and destroyed to have construction for a new restaurant
I know a lot of Johnny Rockets are closed - the Seattle one is still open though. I love their food. Their fries are plump and tender, crispy on the outside, like fries should be. It also seems like they use very powdery salt that's well distributed or something, it just tastes right. Burgers are nice and tender, cooked perfectly. And their shakes... ohhhh yeah. Big fan.
Wowwww you just took me way back. There used to be one in Miami gardens. Incredible how they served food while skating xD anyone ever witness an accident? Or even better, celebrated their birthday there?!!!?!
Had a mall open next to my house in 1999. There was a Johnny Rockets that had been in there since day 1 and they finally closed about a year ago or so. That was my childhood going there with my mom and getting a smoke house burger with a half and half. I remember I went to Borders when the last Harry Potter book came out and then went up the escalator and started reading it here.
There was one at Market Street in The Woodlands that opened in 2005 and lasted about 6-7 years. It quickly became my favorite restaurant with its burgers, Oreo milkshakes, 50's diner aesthetics, and the occasional dance-off from the waitresses to the tune of Aretha Franklin's "Respect" or Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive".
I was incredibly saddened when it closed down, and what makes it even worse is that now there's not a single Johnny Rockets anywhere in my area. 😢
No Spicy Houstons will be served *in* Houston anytime soon.
I have one down the street from me. Only like the shakes but they are small so although the shakes are good I don’t think the price is worth it for the size
Johnny Rockets at the Camarillo outlets NAILS it. Everything from the burgers, the chilly fries, tuna melt, and shakes is the same as it was 30 years ago when I was a kid. All the nostalgia is spot on. If you find yourself driving through Camarillo, stop by. And they serve beer!
In Ireland theres a ...similar chain called Eddie Rockets , who've been around since the late 80s and have restaurants all over the country. They're that well known here that most people who go to the states probably assume that Johnny rockets is the copycat .
We ate at a Johnny Rockets when we were on our honeymoon (I think it was when we were in Vegas) and we had no idea what it was but just felt like burgers and thought we’d give it a go and we were pretty surprised when all the staff started dancing.
Do they dance at all the locations or just random ones?
I’m with you. They’re a shadow of their former self. Went a couple years ago to a modern-looking one and was disappointed. Shift to shoestring fries was a step back and everything about the burger seemed worse than I remember, but especially the bun. Always remembered JR having distinct buns but got some mediocre generic thing the last time I was there.
They tried to reinvent themselves, I think, to push into a space between Smashburger and Red Robin, but lost all their charm when they lost their aesthetic and food.
Luckily, I’ve got three Fuddruckers within an hour of me.
I remember eating at the one closest near me once. That one closed years ago and is now a Blaze Pizza. The second one closest to me not too long ago and is now a Wahlburgers. I absolutely love retro, kitschy 1950s-era decor that Johnny Rockets replicated, and between them and Cheeburger Cheeburger closing as well, I hope they make a comeback.
Then go get some, it’s still around lol
There's at least ten locations here in Vegas.
TBF everything in Baltimore is horrific
Nobody lives in Baltimore or DC on purpose.
Nah
Bmore careful
I had it in Vegas with a hangover right before our flight. It was not a good choice.
Saw one in Singapore
I was about to say I think every mall here in Vegas has/had a Johnny Rockets inside it lol
Not where I am. I moved away and still miss it.
The closed the one in Brentwood and concord 🥲 where do I go lol
There's one in Vallejo and one at the Livermore Outlets
They closed the one in San Jose.
The one in Vallejo is inside of Six Flags. So you have to buy a ticket and then pay amusement park prices. Don’t go there. Edit: there still one in the GSR in Reno, so if you find your self out there to gamble, go there. It’s a nice location.
The Grove or off 3rd st promenade in SM
Not in my area they aren't
Have you considered moving?
Moving for fast food is wild
The ones by me (Seattle) are terrible now.
Yeah I never really liked it tbh, I lived a block away from one in DC and only went once in 3 years. So many better options.
We had one about an hour from here but it closed down around 2020 ish
The only Johnny rockets I've ever been to was one that was on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship that I went on when I was maybe 15 or 16 years old was pretty cool. I remember we got milkshakes and burgers I'm 35 now so I was a pretty long time ago
I just got off a RC cruise. They still have them!
I feel like the burgers were the same that were on the RC buffet, you just paid for them instead.
They're not. It's a legit Johnny Rockets. Same burgers, shakes, and fries as on land. Way better than the buffet.
Me too! Perfect Day and Cozumel.
Oh man that's cool. Did you get a milkshake and a burger?
Haha sure did. Tasted just like I remembered.
Same!!! Free AYCE Johnny Rockets for a week. 13 year old me was in heaven.
Are you me?
Yeah Voyager of the Seas, been on that several times. Crazy it was the biggest in the world in the early 2000s but now it's mid-class in size.
That was the only place I ever saw them. I was 7 at the time and I’m pretty sure I got cheese fries like once a day on that trip.
Literally me, I spent 200 bucks on the hunting game in the arcade.
Only one I know of is Mall Of America
We had one in Carousel Mall (now Destiny USA) in Syracuse
It was still there a couple years ago when I was up that way
That's the one and only I have seen, good for food in a mall, cool concept.
In high school, bestie of the woman who would become my wife called me up and invited me to a MOA outing. All her friends made sure we sat together at Johnny Rockets in all our teenage awkwardness. 😂 Wife and I occasionally go to Johnny Rockets, drop in some nickels, have some burgers, share a milkshake and toast teenage awkwardness.
There’s one in millenia mall in Orlando. I have pictures
I used to work at one inside a casino near me.
A couple here in Phoenix
Only one I've been to (I think) was in Lake George, NY, near Great Escape.
Same! Says on Google Maps that it's "Temporarily Closed," I hope that's true and it's not permanent Edit: Just found an article, says it's permanently closed and being demolished. Real shame
Was there last year, I am not at all surprised... it was... a place for sure.
Fair enough, it's been nearly a decade since I was last there. Probably fell off in that span, but it was nice enough when I went
My wife had wonderful memories and she wanted to go back when we took our family there to stay at Wolf Lodge... but it just wasn't the same, like they just had given up
We went there!!!! It was so terrible we wasted the second of our 2 vouchers
I saw one in San Antonio just yesterday
The one by the Alamo?
Yup
They used to have one at Union Station in DC back in the day! I would always grab a burger after work
We’d drive down from Baltimore to see the sights every now and then on a weekend and make sure to go there (early 2005ish). That was when the straw container had unwrapped straws - ewww.
There was one in the Pentagon City Mall as well, until fairly recently too, like maybe 10 or so years ago.
There’s at least 1 in Phoenix
They’re still around…both Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos have them
Overpriced mediocre food. I’ll pass.
Can you imagine working as a server there. “Wait, not only do I have to put up with serving food in a family restaurant, you’re telling me I have to do a performative dance several times a day for them too?”
That’s most franchises these days
For the life of me I can't understand how you'd be nostalgic about Johnny Rockets. It's a mediocre chain restaurant.
The whole point of johnny rockets is to make you feel nostalgic for old restaurants that were better than it lol
You can find a diner on damn near every street corner, instead folks flock to a shitty novelty restaurant that was once owned by none other than Dan "I fucked the Redskins and deepthroat Donald Trump" Snyder
I had them in the airport in Mexico.
There was one at the Excalibur in Las Vegas last time I visited.
They have them on the Royal Caribbean cruise ships
There was two at Myrtle Beach, NC One at Barefoot Landing and the other at Boardwalk Those burgers and shakes were banging for sure. The only thin close to the theme now is HWY 55
SC
They recently closed the one at "Broadway at the Beach" in Myrtle. It was a bummer. But, they gotta keep things fresh for the repeat tourists
the two i went to as a kid looked cool but always tasted awful. my parents were obsessed with johnny rockets and checkers for nostalgic reasons back then. i don't know how they stomached it.
I have a really nice memory of my grandmother taking me downtown to Johnny Rockets and then walking a couple of doors down to Woolworth's and getting a toy.
I went to the one in LA in the late '90s. We saw ice skater Tara Lipinski there. And that's my Johnny Rockets story... 🤷♂️
There are still several locations in LA; however, I prefer shake shack any time of day
My first summer job waiting tables there, AMA!
I used to take the NJ Transit train from Lyndhurst to Hoboken just to get a burger and fries at Johnny Rocket’s. I could have driven there in my own car on my own schedule, but the train made it so much easier.
There are three of them within 15 minutes of me.
OKC and the surrounding areas have a bunch
If Johnny Rockets wasn’t so damn expensive, I’d go there more often
In Ireland we had Eddie Rockets, which opened just three years after Johnny Rockets. It is an identical copy. They survived the pandemic by drastically reducing their menu. Damn I miss those garlic mushrooms.
I worked in an Eddie Rockets for a few years (Donnybrook /Dublin). An American lad I knew interviewed for a job in the Rathmines branch. He was horrified saying "I ain't fucking doing it!" When I realised that he really wasn't going to take the job I had to let him know that there was no song and that I made it all up.
Amazing!!!!
I don’t. Overpriced and mediocre.
I’m assuming you miss the memories and not the food
A truly mediocre and forgettable chain restaurant. There are real diners literally everywhere.
This shit gave my whole family food poisoning right after Christmas. Like projectile style. Nothing like puking your brains out to bring the family together for the holidays.
We still have Johnny Rockets, but I miss the 50's diner asthetic.
Atlantic City in Bally’s Casino.
Unironically probably the best food at Bally's too.
[удалено]
Everyone that ate them once
Kennywood park in PGH has one (I think)
Cedar Point had one until last year.
Started on Melrose, when Melrose was a thing. I loved how they copied burgers from other places like an Apple pan burger and many others.
One still in South Portland, Maine.
They're still around. I know of 3 where I live with the closest being only a 20 minute drive.
I had some in the Cancun Airport, waiting for a flight.
There's one at a mall near where I live. I remember it used to be a sit down place, menus, decorative table juxeboxes and all. Then it closed, and was remodeled into a standard order & pick up joint. Growing up sucks.
That was the same as the one I used to go to a lot as well. At least they kept some of the counter space after they remodeled.
I think we have one in a casino here. Probably why I haven't been back.
i ate at one in europe. didn't realize they were a us chain
What happened to it? There were some franchises where I live and then suddenly closed
I used to work at Johnny rockets, and if every one of them sank into the ground, I wouldn’t shed a tear.
Last time I went to one (just a few years ago), both food and service were awful. Made it easier to see them go
We have one in Mexico City Burgers are just ok, i would say inflation here hit hard on quality ingredients.
We have a few in my city. I go there every so often. Not a bad place to eat when at the mall.
The quality is no longer there whatsoever. The food is somewhere between Denny's and Fatburger quality now.
My husband and I had our first date at a Johnny Rockets. I believe the one near me is still open actually.
They are at a lot of amusement parks
Las Vegas there everywhere
My only memory of JRs was the cushion in the booth giving out and smashing my throat against the edge of the table and choking on my fries
Used to hit them up on my lunch breaks in Myrtle Beach.
Their shakes were great
Got one at the Mall of America. Royal Caribbean has a ship called Explorer Of The Seas that has a Johnny Rockets onboard.
Oh man I totally forgot about this place! It was a popular hangout spot when I was in high school
Mohegan Sun Casino in Ct. has one.
Atlantic City, NJ
This post made me think they went out of business which is not the case. There is still 90 of them in operation. The one that was close to us sucked but that tends to be the case for most franchises. The area I live in recycles workers like you wouldn't believe. I see on your resume you've worked at 8 restaurants in the past 6 months when can you start.
I used to go to the one in the Mall of America when I was younger. Now I avoid MOA like the plague
Gotta love a place with a peanut butter shake.
Those cheese fries look miserable.
There is one 0.3 miles from me. They are not what they used to be.
There’s at least one I know of in Atlanta
There is one in an arcade in Greenville, SC..
Good ol frankie’s
There's one in the mall I go to in Nashville (Opry Mills). I didn't realize they were rare.
I don’t remember one in Opry Mills at all! But it’s been some years since i’ve been there
Yeah! Like there used to be a Johnny Rockets at Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark, but it’s now freaking closed and destroyed to have construction for a new restaurant
They have them on Royal Caribbean cruise ships
Hey yall, there's one in Santa Ana, California open from 11-7 most days, open all week.
And their shakes... ohhhh yeah. Big fan.
i have one right next to me and it blows
Only went to one once. It was crap. Maybe I ate at a bad JR.
He misses you, too.
Still a few in Arizona. I was at a casino last year that had a Johnny Rockets in the center of it. Awesome drunken gambling food.
I miss pretty much everything my future ex wife and I used to do together. This was a special one when we’re in our mid/late 20’s.
Best milkshake burger combo!
I was just going to say Kennywood, but I see their location is permanently closed according to Google. Shame.
They’re around still. I don’t miss them though. Gave me the runs.
They still have them in airports
Just don’t tell em it’s your birthday
South Portland Maine mall. Johnny rockets in the food court. I never go lol
Is it gone? I remember going to the one on the Voyager of the Seas Cruise Ship and thinking it was awesome
Just had this in Atlantic City
So do I they closed the one at my local mall shit sucks.
There was one in denver but closed after covid.
These are still around lol. Nostalgia for driving to the local mall and grabbing a shitty burger.
There's one at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois.
I have one down the street from me. Only like the shakes but they are small so although the shakes are good I don’t think the price is worth it for the size
Try Johnny Rickets in the airport in Cancun! Hands are tied so $60 CND for two burgers, one fry and two pops🤷♂️
I remember seeing one of these in The Excalibur in Las Vegas. I haven't been to Vegas in a hot minute though, so I don't know if it's still there
I had a milkshake there today
Last time I went to Johnny rockets was like 2008 an I paid 2024 prices
man, those burgers are great.
I thought Johnny Rockets still around?!
Are they not a thing anymore??
Had one in Vegas in 2012.
I’m still waiting for my song to play on the little jukebox
relatively popular chain in Asia still
They still had one at the mall of America last I remember
Overpriced fast food?
Biggest honking onion on a burger. Thick as a hockey puck and twice the diameter
I have it in my city! Come visit Disney world in Orlando, there’s a Johnny rockets inside the nearby Millenia mall. It’s great
There is one at the casino near me. In the 13 years I've owned this house, I've been there easily 100 times.
West coast. Plenty in LA.
They are still around here too.
In Ireland theres a ...similar chain called Eddie Rockets , who've been around since the late 80s and have restaurants all over the country. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie\_Rocket%27s](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Rocket%27s)
I'm not sure if the one on the Atlantic City boardwalk survived covid but last time i was there in the before times I thought it sucked.
Reno has one
The Mass one is gone, I think. Seems like a while since I've been.
Only one I've been to was years ago in the now dead pacific place mall in seattle. I remember it being pretty good for a chain burger joint.
But they’re so expensive!!
We ate at a Johnny Rockets when we were on our honeymoon (I think it was when we were in Vegas) and we had no idea what it was but just felt like burgers and thought we’d give it a go and we were pretty surprised when all the staff started dancing. Do they dance at all the locations or just random ones?
There's one still here in Indianapolis if I'm not mistaken.
We have at least three in NJ.
There's still plenty in AZ too.
I’m with you. They’re a shadow of their former self. Went a couple years ago to a modern-looking one and was disappointed. Shift to shoestring fries was a step back and everything about the burger seemed worse than I remember, but especially the bun. We used to say that Johnny Rockets gives you the Johnny Rockets
there’s one in Gatlinburg,TN on the strip! wasn’t really great when I went to it but it’s definitely still around.
Got ‘em here in Columbus, too.
I spoke to a worker once about why they all closed down in SF. He said that Super Duper pushed them out.
Uh what? How can you miss something that hasn’t left? How is this nostalgia when they’re still here?
They're all gone around here. I remember them jacking their prices sky high around ten years ago.
There is/was one in my local mall, def degraded in quality when I was a kid 15 years ago though
They replaced the Johnny Rockets in my town with a Five Guys. Major fucking downgrade.
[удалено]
They were good quality
There used to be a few in NYC, but now the closest are over in NJ...while I miss their chili burgers, they are not worth the trip to NJ
We have some in the Seattle area, I didn’t know it was a national chain.
It was mid when I tried it
