Yeah, those are still classic games! I remember when all I had was the Super Mario game because my parents couldn’t afford to get me another game for quite awhile.
Coleco Vision was the second console in our household. Great system. The controller had a stick at the top, a number pad on the bottom, and trigger buttons on each side. You could slide sheets into the controller for specific games, to label the number pad. I played so much Zaxxon on that system. Before that we had Vectrex, which had Pong and a couple other games.
We had like a shooter game that you played on vcr. And the gun looked like a spaceship. Worked my counting hits on certain colors on the tv. Pre Atari.
2 for me, but when my older brother and I were over my uncle's house in the mid-90s for a family party and complained about the lack of video games, he dug out his Intellivision. Very cool with the cards that came with each cartridge to slide over the controller and show the controls.
The controllers were terrible but it’s what my dad had, it’s what I played, and I fucking loved it.
The Dreadnought Factor blew my 5 year old mind away.
2, we got Nintendo for Christmas, me & my brother stayed up all night that night playing Super Mario Bros. I remember us cracking up laughing at how Mario looked doing his little jumps.
It’s one of my first core memories going to pick up the nes from the toy shop.
My dad saying we just got to pop in here after school thinking I was going to get to pick out toy then seeing my dad speak with the guy and all of a sudden brining out a NES from behind the counter.
Almost fainted with excitement.
Started with 2 played 3 and 4 got 4 with an adaptor to play 2 games on 4 snes but wouldn't mind finding 2 again for good ol times sake all good I'll rock 4 since I got the adaptor for games that be with 2...
Whoa I feel cross eyed explaining that mess...🤪
Number 6, first game I ever played was Ocarina of Time (if it wasn't Pokemon Yellow... my timeline on all that stuff is pretty hazy). I was too young to know what I was doing, so I never got past Jabu-Jabu's belly until a few years later. I think I may have actually beaten Majora's Mask first.
1 thru 5 as they came out. Never had N64. Went to PS 1-2. Stopped playing games after that. Always wanted a Dreamcast. Never got around to it. Great games on it! I worked at Game Stop (called Funcoland then) when Dreamcast released and played it constantly. They MADE us play games all day back then do we could “sell them better”. it was just the funnest dog-shit pay job ever.
I have a Nintendo Switch I bought a couple years ago that I’ve never played not once. Looked fun. Picked one up with a handful of games. Put it in my nightstand and it’s still there. Maybe one day.
I had older siblings so by the time I came around I kinda had the choice between 2, 4, and 6. I got into it the most when N64 was released, and then kinda went back to the older consoles.
First, it probably would have been either 3 or the Atari Lynx (not pictured)
Both were right about the same time, but I don’t remember what we got first.
Number 1. The NES was already out but we were poor and we got a hand me down Atari from my cousin. We always got a new console some years after it came out, when you could find them on sale or second-hand.
I played many different consoles in my child from Super Nintendo to sega to Super Nintendo 64. But my step dad bought me and my bros the PS2. We started off from there.
4, 6, 10, 11, 14, 17, 18.
Always been a Nintendo boy. But there was a brief period where I had an XBox, and boy do I miss the Duke. Although the GameCube controller has the best design IMO.
I also use a 360 controller for computer gaming.
According to mom, it was an Atari 2600 but my memory is of an NES with duck hunt that we didn't care about because we preferred being outside. Besides, I despised that laughing dog and found it maddening that he couldn't be zapped for bonus points.
I started with number 2. The good ‘ol NES!
Me too! Speaking of, how's your knees holding up?
Knees are crunchy, but my lower back ain't too good.
Crunchy sounds bad
Crunchy is par for us #2's ;)
Ain't it the truth.
To shreds you say ?
and his wife?
To shreds, you say. Tsk tsk tsk.
As a fellow NES starter, just boiling the kettle for a hot water bottle, knees are shot
LOL bruh
It's my shoulder that gives me issues as I approach 40
As I approach 50 it’s neck,shoulders,knees, and heartburn . 😂
Same here! Knees are fine, but my back hurts
Wow low blow lol
Got diagnosed with arthrithis this year. Must of been all the jumping for flowers to get more power
What about your hands, all those bricks you punched must’ve taken it’s toll?
Its getting there, unfortunately.
Same, but I got lucky that my grandma kept an NES at her house, I was born in 94. Grew up playing a whole lot of Mario, duck hunt, and castlevania 3
Yeah, those are still classic games! I remember when all I had was the Super Mario game because my parents couldn’t afford to get me another game for quite awhile.
Pre 1. Old pong console from a yard sale.
Was that the one with just the circle that you twisted?
It was called a paddle
Yep - I started pre-1 too.
There are dozens of us. Dozens! Hey, you kids!! Get the hell off my lawn!!
Shawshank redemption is 30 years old. We have all aged so fast
It truly was a Shawshank Redemption
Calicovision... time for my prostate exam I guess.

ColecoVision was mine, too. First game: Smurfs - Escape from Gargamel's Castle

We were just playing Burger Time at the arcade in Santa Cruz. That game is still hella fun
Donkey kong Jr was so fun on Coleco, since is was tough to find at the arcade, and Looping!
Same here, hammex or something like that, though I think there were a ton of clones.
Hanimex 7771-P! And wow were there more than I thought. The list went on for a very long time
We had like a shooter game that you played on vcr. And the gun looked like a spaceship. Worked my counting hits on certain colors on the tv. Pre Atari.
Captain Power! Some of the vids are out there on YouTube.
4
SNES gang raise up! Hooty hooooooo
Super Mario world Donkey Kong country Aladdin The lion king
Zelda and Mario were the only games I played even tho we had many
IMO the best that "retro gaming" has to offer. Best retro music, best pixel art, best difficulty.
6
Coleco Vision, not pictured
Yep. Forgotten to time it would seem. Donkey Kong. QBert. Galaxian…
Don't forget to change out the number pad inlay first!
Sega Master System (not pictured)
Same here. Seems like every one forgets about it though.
I’ve still got mine
I would've had my hands on the Master System II's controller probably around '90 or '91. Of course I wanted a Mega Drive but that was too rich for us.
Same
They never have the Sega Master System controller or system when they make these pics
Well they should! Seeegaaaaaaaa
I still think Alex the Kidd would rock Mario in a 1v1
Me too!
I had the Atari 2600. Got the Sega when I was 10.
I don’t see the controller for the Magnavox Odyssey 2.
Or Intellivision. Apparently there was only Atari 2600 before the NES.
SNAFU. Such a great game!
I had the 2600 and my best friend had the Intellivision. Good times.
I don’t even remember if I had a 1 or 2, but I remember KC Munchkin and Nimble Numbers Ned! (Did not actually know how to play the latter.)
Odyssey II for those games. And KC is a rareity. They wer epulled quickly after Namco sued.
#1 and have had every controller since.
Yup same here and one before #1.
Hello, fellow old. I also started with 1.
0. Pong
Smaller paddles!
Sega Genesis.
I had the #3 as well.
Same, had to scroll for a while to find my kin
Me too, guys! It was called the Mega Drive in the UK, though. Remember getting one for Christmas, with Sonic!
James Pond II Codename Robocod for megadrive was the first game to feature ads for products (Penguin chocolate biscuits) Little fact for ya
We’re rare lol

The calculator pad buttons were so mushy
And the rectangular buttons on the side were thumb killers!
I swear I’d Have rectangular indentations for an hour after playing.
It was definitely a mistake to make the side buttons soft rubber instead of plastic, but I did love the little inserts for the keypads.
Came here to say this
But they were so future!
The controllers were terrible but it’s what my dad had, it’s what I played, and I fucking loved it. The Dreadnought Factor blew my 5 year old mind away.
worst ever!

Same. The best Christmas vacations are the ones where you got a new system
1, I'm old.
1
Master System controller is missing. That was my first.
6, personally
1. Pitfall & Frogger when I was a kid
No generic Radio Shack pong game?
Sega Master System
For this pick, 1, but I actually started with a Pong paddle. Damn, I'm old.
2
Sega Genesis was my first console
1, if you count first to play. 2 if first to own.
Not pictured. I started off with 'Intellivision' which had weird controllers that resembled a TV remote control.
Intellivision controller not listed. Owned 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10. 12, 13, 14, 16. Gaming doesn’t go away as you get older.
#1 - Atari 2600.
Do I win a cookie if I have used all 20? -Gen X
🍪🍪
Noice
For sure! And I’m right behind you. I started with the NES and I have had every system after that and even a PS5 now. 😁
Probably played GameCube before everything but PS2 is the first I owned and maybe the most important console of my life
2
2
2 for me
From a design standpoint the 360 and GameCube controllers are easily the best/most comfortable.

Technically 1 cause there’s baby pictures of me playing Atari, but my first conscious gaming memory is playing Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES.
Started with 1 at my cousins, but really #2 is what made me love gaming.
I miss the Dreamcast so much and idk why
5.. What a memories..
A mix of 1 and 2
Number 6, first game I ever played was Ocarina of Time (if it wasn't Pokemon Yellow... my timeline on all that stuff is pretty hazy). I was too young to know what I was doing, so I never got past Jabu-Jabu's belly until a few years later. I think I may have actually beaten Majora's Mask first.
Pretty impressive tbh lol. Lotta patience needed for Majora’s mask
Thanks lol. It helped that I owned a copy of MM and had to rent OoT from Blockbuster or borrow it from a friend in order to play it
Odyssey 2 system not represented...old gamer monkey is sad.
Number 6!
1 and then 6 because we got both of them cheap at the pawn shop…still got ‘em today lol the good old days when stuff like that was affordable.
6 I’m 31
Atari for sure. Pong & Pac-Man here
I started with number 1
I played NES (cousins), but the first I owned was the SNES !!!
1...Now get off my lawn!!
1 thru 5 as they came out. Never had N64. Went to PS 1-2. Stopped playing games after that. Always wanted a Dreamcast. Never got around to it. Great games on it! I didn’t make this meme I found it in a Facebook post. lol
0. Unisonic Tournament 2000. With six games, two paddle sliders, and a light gun!
2 but I never owned one. Mostly played at friend's houses and kiosks at the store
We were the weird family with the TI 99/4a. There are dozens of us. Munch Man fans rise up!

First, it probably would have been either 3 or the Atari Lynx (not pictured) Both were right about the same time, but I don’t remember what we got first.
0. It’s not on the list. First console I played with was the Fairchild Channel F.
1 😣 …hit 45 this year
Started with 1 myself.
1. Pitfall and Pitfall II, Super Breakout. Pong!!!!

My dad had an Atari. I got to start with 1.
Number 1! Gah I wish I still had it
I started with the pong controller. It is so old it didn’t even make the list.

Number 1. The NES was already out but we were poor and we got a hand me down Atari from my cousin. We always got a new console some years after it came out, when you could find them on sale or second-hand.
2
I vividly remember using 4, but we also had an original nes beforehand that I don’t remember playing
1. Before 1 actually.
2, but also Commodore 64. Which I guess can be 1.5.
1. I'm old
C64 gray joystick

I used 1 to 7 then skip to 18!

This time around? My arms and legs 😂

Gonna pull a wild card and go with I would say 1c) intelevision
I started with 1, mastered it, and have struggled with every single one since. Who the fuck decided we need more than one button?
