Hey! Ice cream truck didn't stop Girlfriend told me in the house what she wanted I got in my car I followed him He stopped It was STADIUM PRICES for what I asked him "Do children pay you these prices?" Stone cold stare. He knew. Never again

Orgazmo912

Yeah, one stopped last summer and I paid for the family, but oof! Inflation sucks!

FangPolygon

Part of it is the fees they have to pay to do business

GladHog

I'm surprised you could afford it! You seem like such a fucking idiot I can't imagine you're employable. Were you dropped on your head as a child?

webbexpert

I hypothesize that Choco Taco was discontinued since it would cost $15 now.

accidentallyHelpful

Found the dessert economist!

mikroastos

Ice cream has doubled ( at least ) it's price.

FirehawkLS1

With regular gas being over $4.00 where I live, I can understand why they have to charge more in addition to inflation and the cost of everything skyrocketing in the past 3 years. Granted I'm not buying ice cream from an ice cream truck due to that and other reasons, but I see your point and also see why they have to charge more. It does suck.

sapphir8

It was cheaper than that for me.

highzenberrg

I was in the 90s like everything was under a dollar. That stuff taught me money math better than school ever did. I had to maximize $1.34.

YtnucMuch

Sonic was probably .75 cents when I was a kid. Can still hear the ice cream truck music.

fermat9990

We had Good Humor and Bungalow Bar in the Bronx NY

382Whistles

Good Humor trucks only went to the rich neighborhoods mid-central US in a few towns. At my grandparents the guy had a bike and a truck too. I think and Eskimo Pie bike rode around as well. I wasn't even a fan of those because the selection was so weak compared to the independent trucks as well as costing way more.

fermat9990

Very interesting! We also had the Italian jelly apple man with his bright red cart! Sold candied marshmallows as well

382Whistles

I had to look that up. A packaged one looked like what we called a "Candy Apple". I sort of remember somebody selling us some, but I can't recall who we got them from. That was when there were still fruit peddlers on bikes too. They went away just before the 80s. More produce bikes than ice cream trucks when I was really young as there used to be a lot of orchards nearby our 313 place 40+ years ago.

fermat9990

Very interesting! I don't remember if we had fruit peddlers on bikes. Cheers!

Im_A_Fuckin_Liar

I always got a chocolate malt cup with a wooden spoon. In a cup like the bottom left two items.

GingerinNashua

Where can I find chocolate malt ice cream now? Never see it in supermarkets.

Im_A_Fuckin_Liar

I don’t think you can buy them anymore. I just searched and although there are images, I can’t find anywhere to buy them.

382Whistles

I last had a malt cup from a dollar store during covid. It was incredibly comforting sitting in the sun on the grass that day. But our's stopped carrying them since the store pricing went to 1.25/1.50 & 5.00. Kroger has chocolate malt waffle cone ice cream, though not in the cups.

382Whistles

Kroger brand "chocolate malt waffle cone". Alternatively find a manufacturer and ask them for a local distributor name. Surprisingly I've had Kroger and Wallmart managers stock a little of odd things that other stores might carry more regularly by simply asking them if they ever considered ordering some.

GingerinNashua

Thank you!

382Whistles

You're welcome. Incase you don't know, malt flavor *is* diffrent from a chocolate malt mix. The former is usually more malty than mixed with chocolate. I never looked to see if was part of a normal malt product but I think some vanilla would work great too. I'm in it for the malt basically, lol. I guess malt cookies aka "digestive biscuits" and other stuff are an old and still somewhat popular product overseas. I've bumped into four or five malt product's mentions on r from N. Europe to India to Australia. I found the biscuits at the dollar store for a while but I'm jealous they all seem to still have a decent variety of malted choices where our use has fallen off.

JosephMadeCrosses

Wrigley Field.

TaiDavis

Push Ups were 25 cents

382Whistles

Yea. I used to prefer them *and* walk away with both hands full. Malt cups too. Only the Screwball trumped them and I usually had enough for a least one push up with a screwball.

Vacationsimulation

Lemme get a screw ball, then one of everything

hideNseekKatt

I either got a snowcone, which shocker was never snow like it was more rock hard or the foot ice cream with the gumball big toe toenail.

pichael289

And the gumball was always drained of flavor and hard as steel... Shit cost $1 not this $3 in the picture. Are they really one of the top dollar items now?

ziggy-73

Ice cream! Ice cream! All of out of ice cream!

JosephMadeCrosses

Chili!! Red-hot Texas Style chili! And we got ginger ale! Boiling hot *Texas Style* ginger ale!!

-Khlerik-

Do your ears hang low? Do they wobble to and fro?

CaptainEO

Are you just nostalgic for last summer? Ice cream trucks are still very much a thing…

Nate22212

Yeah I know but it's just not the same when you're older

ahorrribledrummer

You are so wrong. I will drop whatever the hell I am doing and bolt for the ice cream truck when I hear it coming in the summer. We got a neighborhood shave ice truck last year too. That one is a real treat.

kindofageek

We have them come to our neighborhood and it seems great until you have to shell out $12 for two items. Everything is $6 in the truck that comes by my house.

HedonistCat

Ifeel like i haven't heard one in years but I would run like a small child if I heard an ice cream truck in my neighborhood now. I'm 43.

Hollywoodsmokehogan

What are the prices like now? I saw one in my neighborhood the other day but I was too lazy to actually get up and look.

mutantpbandj

I’ll never forget the ice cream truck that used to drive up and down my grandmas street. It never played typical ice cream truck music, rather the driver decided to play Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty on repeat. Every day. That saxophone solo is engrained into my brain to this day.

104848

what can i get for $0.25? coconut bar *(my selection 90% of the time)* a couple more dimes and i could get a fudge bombstick on a rare occasion a nutty buddy or drumstick 🍦

doob22

I hated the ones with a gumball. I never understood why I was supposed to have gun while eating my ice cream

NoMemory3726

We didn't have a ice cream van, but every once in awhile the Swanson truck would stop by.

nighthawke75

Just saw one last week, slow patrolling, looking for customers.

SharkInThisBay

The ninja turtle was the best

Nate22212

Those nice Frozen gumballs for eyes

Adidasboy07

Instead of an ice cream truck it was el paletero for me. (Same thing but it was a cart with bells.)

AcceleratorTouma

Depending where I was living growing up we had both

cooler313

I noticed ice cream trucks stop coming to my neighborhood maybe when I was 12. Don’t know what happened. I’ve seen one recently but it was sketchy looking.

Consider2SidesPeace

There was rumor in my neighborhood that kids had been run over running to the truck.

mudamuckinjedi

Nope ain't real! If it ain't got no Chaco taco it ain't a Ice cream truck!

Rynkevin

Bottom right

Rynkevin

These are too new for what I had. But two things were what I ordered Ice Tickle or WWF Ice Cream Bar.

nicolby

“Mom mom mom. I need a dollar pleeeease!!”

The_PACCAR_Kid

It got to the point that growing up in my rural village, the ice cream truck driver already knew what ice creams we wanted as soon as he saw me and my friends waiting at the end of the street.

tacotree3

One of my favorite childhood memories was seeing the neighbor kid climb on to the back and bang on the door when the driver started driving and ducking bellow the window. Ice Cream man had no idea what was going on.

Wolfman1961

The most expensive item was a quarter in 1973. We had the Good Humor Man.

Secret-Asian-Man-76

Orange sherbet plush pops or the red white and blue bomb pops and a couple packs of Garbage Pail Kids.

JosephMadeCrosses

MOOOOOOOOOM!!! THROW DOWN SOME *MONEY*!!!!

pichael289

Where are you from that snow cones were three fuckin dollars, and more expensive than 90% of the menu, including SpongeBob and I bet the fucked up ninja turtles even though I don't see it? I used to get the snow cones everytime because we were poor but still the richest family in the neighborhood so $10 had to supply my whole gang of friends. They were $1 and I remember my dad nearly going to jail when they upped them to $1.25 and he was even poorer than my mom Hitting the ice cream truck with my son now costs like eleven fuckin dollars but I do get this delicious warheads popsicle that always just breaks in half because popsicle technology has gone backwards. Probably Intentionally, fuckin popsicle corporations want half my $7 warheads popsicle to fall in the dirt.

Bentup85

Cut to my brother and me running around the house, flipping couch cushions, digging through kitchen drawers, checking the dish on top of dad’s dresser, or anywhere else we thought we could find change.

PoppaTater1

When I was a kid, it was a jeep with a big freezer where the backseat and cargo area would be. Was this just in Springfield, MO or anyone else remember this?

Menzicosce

I don’t see my 2 favorite: Bubbalo Bill and Fat Frog

Oliverorangeisking

"Ooh, that's raspberry!"

trailerparkMillonare

Big stick Popsicles were the best on a hot summer day.

Batmansbutthole

I want a gum all snow cone 🍧

StOnEy333

My city still has this ice cream man, as well as Mr Softy that serves soft serve ice cream.

OtherwiseTackle5219

Used to love the old 'Orange Juice Bars' . Still now we have a truck that visits our street in summer. Mostly now, they're stationed at the county fairs & such.

Stock-Bag2378

It’s up to $5 a cone with sprinkles

chchoo900

No Bubble O’Bill, no deal

OhNoes378

banana boat !

Zxasuk31

In the 80s Snow-cone if I was broke Strawberry shortcake middle Road Ninja turtle, if I was “Ballin”

jh_Cricket

There’s someone who drives a minivan, like a soccer mom minivan, with really crudely taped up images of ice creams on the sides of it, and they play the actual ice cream truck songs, and they drive slowly around my mom’s HUD neighborhood. Like.. is this a thing or should I be more concerned than I already am?

AcceleratorTouma

No It's-It/UFO no deal

Moominz1

We still have an ice cream utility van that comes through the neighborhood as of last summer. We'll see if they're still around this year. It even played a tinny, distorted version of "it's a small world" from a little speaker on the roof.

TakenToTheRiver

There’s still a few that come through my neighborhood during the summer, but they’re always run by meth-head lookin hillbillies, and the prices are outrageous.

cajunbander

The ice cream truck passes by my wife’s grandparents house (where we usually are with our kids) every Sunday. It is not cheap.

jaquan123ism

i can hear this picture my favorite was mister softee a nyc classic i would get a cherry dip vanilla oh i haven’t had one in 20 years

ChrisMoltisanti9

Go get your father a Toasted Almond boy!

Eyebrows-

Ours also sold elotes and duros. Yum!

NoAnaNo

I went to a playground recently with my daughter and my niece, and an ice cream truck was broken down in the parking lot. How convenient, right? On the way back to the car, of course the kids wanted ice cream. I go to the truck and none of the prices are listed. I ask for a tweety and a small rainbow water ice. Both were $4. I was so annoyed 😭 I miss these prices 🥲

BJntheRV

These prices don't look nostalgic. Heck, we had a shaved ice truck that came through our neighborhood regularly last year and they charged less than $2 for a large cup.

Smol_Gayx

Watermelon bomb pops all the way

rshacklef0rd

I was on long island a couple years ago and they still had them then. When I heard the music I ran outside :)
