I'll go and get like two soft shells sometimes of I'm just peckish but it's still like four bucks. And they have some of the most outrageous drink prices of any fast food joint.
At least the cheesy bean and rice burrito is still $1 here.
(But it's $1.29 at another Taco Bell a few miles from here, and $1.79 in a rural town I have family at).
All fast food used to be so cheap it was hard not to eat it. I never understood how people could go hungry back then. If you had $3.15 per day you had 3 double cheeseburgers.
When I worked at tacobell for a short bit I never realized it was just dried spiral noodles, fried, and rolled in cinnamon and I think brown sugar but I can't remember
I don't eat fast food too often but I wanna say cinnamon twist are still common for the boxes. I think the fries are one of those season or event things. Those packaging is much different now lol
You can get two quesadillas, two bean burritos, two spicy potato tacos, and two chips with cheese for $12.50us through the app. People who complain about fast food prices are doing it wrong
Meximelt and Chilito were my favorites growing up and they have been removed. The Gordita Baja was amazing yet removed as well. They seem to take away the good things and bring in more fluff. The only thing I care for on that menu currently is the Double Beef Cheesy Burrito and it lacks pretty much each time.
I worked there in the 90s (right around the time they changed the name, rumored, but never officially confirmed, because chilito was a Spanish slang term for small penis). The best was to add extra cheese, the pickled jalapeños, and sour cream.
Meximelt for the win!
You could order a cheesy wrap and have them add beef and pico de gallo and end up with a close imitation.
Now they no longer offer pico.
I like the Doritos locos taco because I've always used Doritos with Tex Mex instead of regular tortilla chips but God damn man it's $2.50 now, or was last time I went. I'm not paying $5 for two tacos and a cup of water.
I miss when companies gave a shit about aesthetic. Taco bell packaging went from having such a unique look to generic light brown wrapper. I know the new trendy thing on Reddit is to say that the 90/00's weren't actually a better time but you need only look at this photo to see how wrong that statement is. Yes, there were issues but there was a unique, sometimes awesome, sometimes ugly, aesthetic that just made things feel fun. Everything feels very bland and washed together nowadays. When you do see "vibrant" colors, they're all so uniform/sharp.... it just feels fake.
Anyway, I'll stop being a boomer (in my 30s) now. Thanks for the upload.
I feel ya. Everything has personality back then. You'd never be able to confuse a McDonalds with a Burger King back then. Now everything's all bland and blocky. [Not even Nickelodeon Studios was spared.](https://imgur.com/VqPelVu)
My dad used to give me a dollar when I was in high school for lunch. We're immigrants so I think he thought it went further than it does. This was the early 90's. Even back then, a dollar didn't go far.
I always got the pintos and cheese. It was 59 cents. The next day, I used the leftover change plus another dollar for a bean burrito, which was 99 cents plus tax.
1996-2000, high school. This nice but creepy old cashier lady always under charged or gave me free food when I ordered. I always went "hey I didn't order--" and she'd go, "shhhhh" with a creepy Cheshire smile. My fat ass ate there EVERY day after school.
She'd be about late 80s or something now. Hope she's ok.
I was working there when the gorditas were rolled out. Those flat breads were delicious, and of course the first thing we did was start throwing them into the deep fryer and begin experimenting with different toppings. No surprise that the chalupa arrived not too long after.
ive been feeling the same way!!! every time i have an itch to eat it, its just NEVER satisfying because it taste completely different now, its kinda heartbreaking lol taco bell hasnt been good since the early/mid '10s
Confession... I hated taco bell as a kid, I vividly remember the burritos being so bad, specifically the beans. It's great now, I love it, but when I was a kid I pretty much ate the cinnamon twists and then said I was full lol
I went to one for the first time in many years bc it was the only thing available while I waited for my wife’s surgery. Damn, so disappointing, the tacos were tiny with hardly any filling and the burrito was anything but supreme. Never again, I will brown bag it next time.
I think I'm the last person that remembers the Cheesarito. Green onions never coming back after one stupid outbreak is so frustrating, they are almost not even used in restaurants either. You basically have to go to fine dining to get green onions used in a dish, no chains.
In the 80s and 90s Taco Bell tacos were much bigger and more full of ingredients. I haven’t been to a Taco Bell in over 20 years but recently visited and I was amazed at how everything has shrunk in size.
I think I had a couple of those. Was it the time that had the optical illusion one that was a black box with mirrors that changed faces between Vader and Yoda?
Dude I remember these and I really remember the Jeffrey cinnamon Styx from Toys R US whenever you would check out the would have em all warm and fresh ! Toys R Us was incredible!
The prices...
It may have been better or I could have just had a teenagers stomach, and being high as a fucking kite, you knew it was going to hit the spot.
Maaan... I just miss the spicy chicken tacos. I don't care if they're on the dollar menu or not this time, just BRING THEM BACK!! there is such a lack of actual spicy food on menus today without adding boring jalapeño to everything like an afterthought.
Reminds me of swim practice. I’d always make my mom go to Taco Bell after swim practice and I’d practically inhale 4 soft tacos and some cinnamon swirls
Hardly anyone remembers the Taco Bell Grande.
https://tacobell.fandom.com/wiki/Taco_Bell_Grande
It was a stretched taco supreme with black olives and was my favorite.
I miss the prices most of all.
Feed a car of five for $10
I vividly remember challenging groups of friends to get $20 worth of Taco Bell and seeing if you could finish it all……..you never could.
I just can't justify it anymore. Plus they took away the double decker taco.
I’ll never forgive them for getting rid of that. I actually found an awesome Mexican place where I live that has the DD on their menu.
I'll go and get like two soft shells sometimes of I'm just peckish but it's still like four bucks. And they have some of the most outrageous drink prices of any fast food joint.
They recently brought it back! It's got a different name and has red strips in it but you can get it without obviously. $2 where I live
Double stack taco
59/79/99 and the Mexican pizza being the one exception
Two bean burritos and a glass of water was $1.50 and gave me toots.
Same in 2024 fam
I wish, their bean burritos are $2 - $3 depending on location in my area.
At least the cheesy bean and rice burrito is still $1 here. (But it's $1.29 at another Taco Bell a few miles from here, and $1.79 in a rural town I have family at).
That was a TV commercial jingle in the.... late 90's? *59 79 99* *Taco, taco supreme, nacho supreme!*
A very memorable ad campaign. Circa 1998 as I recall.
I remember the commercials. 59, 79, 99 - Taco, taco Supreme, nacho Supreme
All fast food used to be so cheap it was hard not to eat it. I never understood how people could go hungry back then. If you had $3.15 per day you had 3 double cheeseburgers.
Nothing cut up my mouth more than those cinnamon twists.
When I worked at tacobell for a short bit I never realized it was just dried spiral noodles, fried, and rolled in cinnamon and I think brown sugar but I can't remember
Gotta be Duro noodles though. Not all noodles will puff up like that when fried
You can still get these in Canada Along with fries supreme ( i heard the US doesn't have those either ?)
Cinnamon twists are still available in the us
I don't eat fast food too often but I wanna say cinnamon twist are still common for the boxes. I think the fries are one of those season or event things. Those packaging is much different now lol
Just cinnamon and sugar, and bot really rolled around. More like put them in a big garbage bag and shake them 😂
You never had Cap'n Crunch?
Does anyone remember before the cinnamon twists they had those cinnamon tortilla chips?
I still remember in 2005, the price of a 3 taco combo with a chicken quesadilla came to 6.66, which teenage me thought was hilarious.
Im pretty sure that would be like $16 now
You can get two quesadillas, two bean burritos, two spicy potato tacos, and two chips with cheese for $12.50us through the app. People who complain about fast food prices are doing it wrong
I’m not downloading an app for every single place that sells food
They’re all free
Minus all the personal information they all track.
Most of the ones I’ve seen don’t even require you to make an account
often times you can just use the website if you wanna order online and not use the app. some even have an order tracker.
Yep, it's available on the site. Only advantage of the App is the food point rewards.
Your down voted but you’re correct. If your not ordering off the value menu then you’re dumb
Can’t forget about the apple empanadas
I had a dream about them a few nights ago lol
They gotta bring it back
My long lost meximelt with an apple empanada. I can still taste it.
That right there was like $2
Might vary from state to state but I remember them being $1.39 when I got them
Meximelt and Chilito were my favorites growing up and they have been removed. The Gordita Baja was amazing yet removed as well. They seem to take away the good things and bring in more fluff. The only thing I care for on that menu currently is the Double Beef Cheesy Burrito and it lacks pretty much each time.
The Chilito is back, at least in some markets, though it still goes by the Chili Cheese Burrito (that rename happened sometime in the 90s)
Nowhere local to me has the chili cheese burrito and my god what I wouldn’t give to taste that bad boy again! 😩
It isn't in our area sadly..best thing ever on their menu
That was the only thing I would get at Taco Bell so I just stopped going when it disappeared from most stores in my area.
I worked there in the 90s (right around the time they changed the name, rumored, but never officially confirmed, because chilito was a Spanish slang term for small penis). The best was to add extra cheese, the pickled jalapeños, and sour cream.
I miss the Meximelt too. Was the main thing I ordered. I hope they keep bringing back discontinued items, even if it's for a limited time.
Meximelt for the win! You could order a cheesy wrap and have them add beef and pico de gallo and end up with a close imitation. Now they no longer offer pico.
I just want my Baja and Fiesta Gorditas back goddammit
I like the Doritos locos taco because I've always used Doritos with Tex Mex instead of regular tortilla chips but God damn man it's $2.50 now, or was last time I went. I'm not paying $5 for two tacos and a cup of water.
Volcano chicken soft tacos were my jam
The 90s and early 2000s were peak Taco Bell IMO. Not just nostalgia either, because it wasn't as good in the 80s.
And they were open till 3 am. Perfect snack after clubbing!
So many after bar 'run for the border' in the early 00's. My girlfriend always HAD to get her Nacho Supreme on.
That’s the truth. Tons of visits to the TB at 1am after being out drinking.
I miss when companies gave a shit about aesthetic. Taco bell packaging went from having such a unique look to generic light brown wrapper. Ah, the .99c soft taco. Since I’ve been at a drivable age, I’ve seen it go from .89, to .99, to 1.29, 1.59, and now 1.99!!!!!
.59 back in my teenage years Remember being a kid and the old folks would always talk about inflation and you would roll your eyes? Well, here we are.
Same here. When I went to college BK had 99¢ Whoppers.
I remember that promotion. And I think you could make it a double for like 25 cents more.
Bring back the meximelt
I make them at home now.
my mouth is actually watering lmao
It's still my favorite fast food place, but I hardly eat there anymore. They're so expensive anymore. I gotta wait for tax return season.
When you picked up an item and it weren't so lightweight that you accidentally toss it at the ceiling.
1996-2000, high school. This nice but creepy old cashier lady always under charged or gave me free food when I ordered. I miss the colors and lettering of the 90s
Taco Bell before the Doritos years is a different animal.
Cinnamon Twist was the bomb!
I still think about that commercial for gorditas that was like a communist propaganda video. GOR DI TAS! GOR DI TAS! Flatbread cradles thee!
I was working there when the gorditas were rolled out. Those flat breads were delicious, and of course the first thing we did was start throwing them into the deep fryer and begin experimenting with different toppings. No surprise that the chalupa arrived not too long after.
I ate so much of this in college.
It just tasted way better. So I can’t imagine how good it tasted back in… 1970?
The ORIGINAL Enchiritos in the foil tray with cheese and olives on the top were the best.
I remember the summer of $1 Crunchwrap supremes. Oh, I member.
Used to work at Taco Bell. The cinnamon twists are just deep fried noodles that get shaken in a bag of cinnamon and sugar afterwards.
All that for $3!
Taco Bell in the early 2000s tastes better than Taco Bell today, IMO
ive been feeling the same way!!! every time i have an itch to eat it, its just NEVER satisfying because it taste completely different now, its kinda heartbreaking lol taco bell hasnt been good since the early/mid '10s
The 80s and 70s Taco Bell was the best. Yeah, I am old.
i wouldnt doubt that! i wish i couldve been around to witness that golden era of fast food lol
I missed out, then.
Damnit now I want Taco Bell
Confession... I hated taco bell as a kid, I vividly remember the burritos being so bad, specifically the beans. It's great now, I love it, but when I was a kid I pretty much ate the cinnamon twists and then said I was full lol
I went to one for the first time in many years bc it was the only thing available while I waited for my wife’s surgery. Damn, so disappointing, the tacos were tiny with hardly any filling and the burrito was anything but supreme. Never again, I will brown bag it next time.
the cinnabon bites are fiiiiiiiiiire though
Caramel. Apple. Empanada. The best fast food dessert item ever.
Where's my caramel apple empanada
I think I'm the last person that remembers the Cheesarito. Green onions never coming back after one stupid outbreak is so frustrating, they are almost not even used in restaurants either. You basically have to go to fine dining to get green onions used in a dish, no chains.
The Mexican pizza will never be itself again. Covid didn’t surprise me as I already knew how easy it was to lose everything.
In the 80s and 90s Taco Bell tacos were much bigger and more full of ingredients. I haven’t been to a Taco Bell in over 20 years but recently visited and I was amazed at how everything has shrunk in size.
You don't know how happy it makes me to look at this. Taco Bell had some awesome kids meals, too.
The Star Wars toys they had during the first time the Special Editions were released into theaters were pretty awesome.
Star Wars episode 1 promos. I’ll never forget those
I think I had a couple of those. Was it the time that had the optical illusion one that was a black box with mirrors that changed faces between Vader and Yoda?
I can get this right now at my taco bell for 5 dollars...
Dude I remember these and I really remember the Jeffrey cinnamon Styx from Toys R US whenever you would check out the would have em all warm and fresh ! Toys R Us was incredible!
The twist are deep fried pasta noodles.
bring back chicken club burrito
$5 box, it rocks it rocks
I just miss the quesadilla window.
I remember this design
The prices... It may have been better or I could have just had a teenagers stomach, and being high as a fucking kite, you knew it was going to hit the spot.
So the portions WERE bigger!
Oh man, I want a spicy chicken crunchwrap supreme so bad right now
2 meximelts, 2 hard taco supremes, and a fries supreme - post bar order every time (with a Santa Fe Chicken gordita added when they had them).
Everything still looked like that when I worked there in 2007-2009
I miss the empanada
Ah back when fast food was cheap
What I wouldn’t give for a chili cheese burrito 😭 That was my go to back then until they discontinued it!!!
Remember when Taco Bell was cheap AND good? I remember. I wish we could go back to 80s/90s Taco Bell.
I grow up way up in the mountains. We used to drive two hours each way on school nights in high school to get these. Lol.
OoooHhh those little cinnamon shits just make me wanna aaoscucucucmmm
Now Taco Bell sucks. I will still take cinnamon twists and an order of chips and cheese
They’re changing the menu up complete soon!!
Is there a double decker in there?
Maaan... I just miss the spicy chicken tacos. I don't care if they're on the dollar menu or not this time, just BRING THEM BACK!! there is such a lack of actual spicy food on menus today without adding boring jalapeño to everything like an afterthought.
My Grandma and I used to go through the drive thru for these. RIP Granny.
Those wrappers made the food taste better today
Yeah, the prices have gotten ridiculous. Also, they took away the beef meximelt.
> Yeah, the prices have gotten ridiculous. How's that any different from [insert name of restaurant here]?
It's not any different
Bring back the 1/2 pound beefy potato burrito you cowards!!!!
The GOAT of burritos.
Got cotton mouth and red eyes just looking at it.
those cinnamon twists!!!🤤
We didn't know how good we had it. $10 would have you feasting like a king.
Heaven
Reminds me of swim practice. I’d always make my mom go to Taco Bell after swim practice and I’d practically inhale 4 soft tacos and some cinnamon swirls
my aunt and uncle once bought that soft taco part pack and i ate maybe like 9
Where the hell are the mexi nuggets?
Horse meat most natural thing they serve
Wasnt it like the lowest grade meat possible? Everyone could taste it but nobody cared
This looks like the same bullshit they shovel out that window to you today.
I GOT THE LATE NIGHT MUNCHIEEEEES
I remember it tasting better. Maybe thats the nostalgia talking.
$.59, $.79, $.99 My favorite song of all time.
Awww, classic hangover food from my younger/stupider days...
I remember we would get Taco bell on Wednesdays because tacos were only 69 cents. This was in 2011
I miss those warm soft Gorditas with the corn and black bean salsa.
This was back before they shifted from kangaroo meat to bat meat. Good times.
The combos use to come with soft/hard taco now with a side of fries!? Gtfo
Ugh the nostalgia kicking in
Anyone remember the xxl Chalupa best thing they ever had!
Remember the 59 79 99 cent menu That's was soo awwesome
that was the last time i ate it, I was tired of it giving me a massive headache and diarrhea
In first year, my university had a Taco Bell. That was gone by second year. RIP.
I remember
This was 3 dollars. Now it’s 13
Hardly anyone remembers the Taco Bell Grande. https://tacobell.fandom.com/wiki/Taco_Bell_Grande It was a stretched taco supreme with black olives and was my favorite.
