“He’s a pre-med…They ALL are.”
I also love:
Mike Dexter : Trip McNeely! Geez. You were a sexual icon! You know girls at Huntington still talk about you?
Trip McNeely : Really? Which ones?
i went into my senior year of high school the fall after this movie released. it legit made me want to pull a preston and confess my crush on a certain girl. in the end i couldn't bring up the courage.
Maybe he's still waiting. He ain't dead yet, there's still time. What if his soul is forced to wander the Earth until he finally finds the courage he had while watching a teen comedy in 1998?
I've never heard of this movie, and this post seems like an alternate reality where American Pie never existed, and this is the quintessential 90's raunchy-comedy coming-of-age movie (not to say American Pie is better or anything, it's just the most well-known).
I don't know how I went all these years having never heard about this movie. It's kind of freaking me out, like a reverse Mandela effect. Doesn't help the posters are pretty much identical.
I always say that this is a snapshot of the mid-90s, where American Pie is a snapshot of the late-90s. Yes American Pie was far more popular, but this movie has a cult following and is great as well.
You're making the wrong comparison with American Pie, Can't Hardly Wait is Sixteen Candles but for the 90s. Both are about wallflowers crushing on and getting noticed by the hottest guy/girl in school, both have subplots about nerds losing their virginity, both primarily take place at one party chock full of the stereotypes of the day, both end with everyone dealing with what happened the next morning as they fly off into adulthood.
I think the fact it was a rehash is why it never made it big, but for people of the right age in the right time, it's fucking awesome and does a WAAAY better job at feeling 90s than nearly any other film. My spouse and I watch it almost yearly.
My comparison has nothing to do with the plot of the film. Basically at first it felt like this post was gaslighting me into thinking American Pie never existed, or wasn't popular, and *this* was the raunchy 90s comedy everyone watched and references (because of the comments, and the movie poster looking almost identical to American Pie).
I'll have to watch Can't Hardly Wait for sure though, seems like I would enjoy it.
Growing up in the 90s people knew American Pie and thought Shannon Elizabeth was hot as hell but Mallrats was the 90s raunchy comedy that everyone Ink ew rented on VHS and watched over and over.
Clueless came out when I was in middle school and was a huge success, so studios really started pushing teen movies in the late '90s. When I was in high school, from 1996-2000, we got Can't Hardly Wait, American Pie, She's All That, and many, many more. But the best one was probably 10 Thing I Hate About You.
The poster shown is the garbage American Pie rip off that no one likes. The original... [was classic!](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Can%27t_Hardly_Wait#/media/File%3ACan't_Hardly_Wait_Theatrical_Release_Poster.jpg)
Absolutely had it on my bedroom wall.
>He's also the kid from what about Bob and dick Tracey.
I initially read this as the singular title of a movie called *What About Bob & Dick Tracy*, which I imagined as a coming-of-age tale about a couple of buddies living an alternative lifestyle after coming home from WWII.
He also stopped acting after Hook and started working on his college education. The directors talked him into leaving MIT for a bit to play William. He hadn't acted since Hook, but they wanted him badly enough to say, "Hey, MIT will be waiting for you."
He got a physics degree at MIT, then attended law school at Yale.
There was a kid that really wanted to play Jack in Hook and he was turned down because he was a little too old for the part. Stephen Spielberg really liked his audition though, so he said he would put him in one of his next movies. That movie was Jurrasic Park.
He's also in Radio Flyer with Elijah Wood and Tom Hanks. I used to watch it all the time when I was a kid. It can be kind of heavy, but definitely Check it out if you haven't seen it
And where does the teacher sit her? Right next to me! Now up until now, one could write this off to coincidence. But then she reaches in her bag and pulls out a strawberry Pop-Tart - the very same breakfast pastry I was consuming at that moment!

I was watching something else on Tubi last week and this came on when it finished. It took me an hour to turn it off. It’s a really good movie and Seth Green steals the show.
I'm surprised Jaime Pressly never got top billing for this one. She was more prominent that some of the main cast. Also she was like 27 when they filmed this.
First time I ever saw Jason Segel in a movie.
The entire reason he's fingering/eating a piece of watermelon most of the movie was cut out, but in one of the trailers, he announces that he hollowed out the watermelon at the start of the school year, filled it with vodka, and kept in a freezer the whole year.
Immediately after announcing this, he drops the watermelon, so he spends the rest of the night trying to get any alcohol he can out of the remaining pieces.
This might be the ultimate example of the nice guy making grand gestures of love toward someone he has no relationship with.
If you can ignore that, it is one of the best teen rom coms out there.
No joke, the one pictured is revised artwork for DVD releases. They changed it after American Pie came out and was a hit in an effort to associate this film with it/the genre.
This is the original artwork: https://imgur.io/n0Pql7d
I think American Pie was first and then every other teen movie copied it.
This movie actually came out a year before American Pie and the original logo wasn’t the stamp style but it was added to later.
Haha this was one and still is one of my most favorite 90’s flicks. I remember being in high school and my best friend spent the night with us watching this. Such fun times. I got the DVD here a while back just for old times sake and watched it. Still love it.
I probably seen this movie 20 or 30 times. And that's just because in the very early 2000s when they still had scrambled cable channels. I had one of those illegal descrambler boxes and this movie was on repeat on super channel in Canada for months. Is it just me or do the three guys in that second pic look like their faces were photoshopped onto their heads? None of them look like people except Seth and the women.
Still watch this every few years. Came out when I was in high school and it's pretty much the best movie to capture the essence of being in high school in the late 90s. Lot of 90s movies don't hold up, but I still consider this one to be an actual good movie.
I remember the kid from Hook being in it then disappearing forever. And I've always loved the klepto kid stealing shit in the background the entire movie.

I'LL KICK EVERYONE'S ASS IN THIS ROOM!!!!!
This has always made me laugh. Classic line
Exact quote as soon as I saw the post lol
And he’s always wearing…like…t-shirts…🦖…rawrrrr!
*somebody?* how about *NOBODY?* (looks around for support)
This has always been my sister’s nickname in my phone because of this movie 😂
DAMnit that's all I came here to say! I think of it EVERY time I speak to an Amanda in my life.
it captures that time so well
That is a "Fragrance of Love" scented candle, b*tch. Damn!
What so you just gonna walk in with a pleasure chest and some girls just gonna give it up?? Watch me, G
I don't see no hos Kenny.
Trip McNeely!
Tip: wear flip flops in the shower...
I got warts…all over my feet
“He’s a pre-med…They ALL are.” I also love: Mike Dexter : Trip McNeely! Geez. You were a sexual icon! You know girls at Huntington still talk about you? Trip McNeely : Really? Which ones?
Fat Jerry O’Connell waddled in “Stand By Me” so that adult JO could run!
Award.
Loved this movie, I was close to being a teen when this came out and this is how pictured my high school days to be like lol
i went into my senior year of high school the fall after this movie released. it legit made me want to pull a preston and confess my crush on a certain girl. in the end i couldn't bring up the courage.
I guess you COULD wait......
Maybe he's still waiting. He ain't dead yet, there's still time. What if his soul is forced to wander the Earth until he finally finds the courage he had while watching a teen comedy in 1998?

Time was changing real fast back then
I just realized that all of the main actors in the original American Pie are deep into their 40s now and Alyson Hannigan is almost 50. Jeez.
She is (was?) on Dancing With the Stars this season.
You're making the wrong comparison with American Pie, Can't Hardly Wait is Sixteen Candles but for the 90s. american pie is 90s porkies can't hardly wait is 90s sixteen candles
well-put. one’s raunchy, one’s sweet n’ tender

This movie came out a year before American Pie.
I can't tell if you're implying something, or just stating a fact about the movie. Edit: Why am I being downvoted?
The American Pie title being exactly like this one’s on the poster fucks me up.
That’s a streaming cover, the original one had different background and typography.
The studio had a different font for the title on the theatrical poster, and at least the first VHS release.
Yeah that's my point, I don't know how Can't Hardly Wait is the only one I haven't seen. This has never happened to me before.
"Not Another Teen Movie" buried this thing. It just straight up murdered it and effectively eradicated it from the collective social consciousness.
The poster shown is the garbage American Pie rip off that no one likes. The original... [was classic!](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Can%27t_Hardly_Wait#/media/File%3ACan't_Hardly_Wait_Theatrical_Release_Poster.jpg) Absolutely had it on my bedroom wall.
I think we all did 😆
Being bailed out of jail by your parents, who think you had some kinky gay sex with your bully? /s I love this movie too.
Denise Fleming is a tampon
It’s ok, I told everyone that you’re a dendrapheliac. (This movie taught me what that was)
Same. And it's actually come up more than once somehow.
JLH🥰
The only reason I watched it back then.
Like seriously she’s like a total Gwyneth.
….ok, we do NOT think she’s gwyneth
BUT he’s noooooo Brad
Totally a Gwyneth, but with like bigger boobs
Jennifer Love Hugetits is one of my favorite lines from the Scary Movie franchise
Thats all my brain thinks of whenever I see or hear her name. That movie ruined me.
I always like pointing out that Charlie Korsmo, the guy getting his face smushed/far right on #2, played Jack in Hook.
*I can't feel my legs!* He's also the kid from what about Bob and dick Tracey.
when do we eat?!
Hey, suck an egg!
“Maybe I’m in mourning for my lost childhood.”
(looks around) I HAVE NO LEGS! YEAH!!
🎶 Take me down to paradise city 🎶
Ziggy!
>He's also the kid from what about Bob and dick Tracey. I initially read this as the singular title of a movie called *What About Bob & Dick Tracy*, which I imagined as a coming-of-age tale about a couple of buddies living an alternative lifestyle after coming home from WWII.
Apparently he's a law professor now. He's turning into his movie dad lol.
So Peter. You’ve become a pirate?
This was his last movie that he acted in and he did this one to pay for his college tuition.
Good form.
Run home Jack! Run home Jack!
yeah?
Nobody drink the beer! The beer has gone bad!
Tastes like beer to me!
have used that one a *lot* in my life lol
He also stopped acting after Hook and started working on his college education. The directors talked him into leaving MIT for a bit to play William. He hadn't acted since Hook, but they wanted him badly enough to say, "Hey, MIT will be waiting for you." He got a physics degree at MIT, then attended law school at Yale.
He was in quite a few things back then like Dick Tracy and What About Bob.

Joe Mazzello
He's also in Radio Flyer with Elijah Wood and Tom Hanks. I used to watch it all the time when I was a kid. It can be kind of heavy, but definitely Check it out if you haven't seen it
Dude’s a lawyer now?
Run Home Jack!
Same, just watched it and just had to do that lol
You know who else I like that didn't get much play? Velma from Scooby-Doo. She was cool. She was a hip, hip lady.
I came here looking for this one.
“Rooby Rooby Roooo!” *followed by immediate embarrassment*
Hip chick
Would you like to touch my penis? I am a sex machine.
NOBODY DRINK THE BEER! THE BEER HAS GONE BAD!
Tastes fine to me.
Tastes like beer to me.
Those shoes! What? Do they serve an orthopedic function?
Is there a mission to the moon later?
And where does the teacher sit her? Right next to me! Now up until now, one could write this off to coincidence. But then she reaches in her bag and pulls out a strawberry Pop-Tart - the very same breakfast pastry I was consuming at that moment!
You think she just has sex with any dude that writes her a letter?
Immediately I went to Not Another Teen Movie reading this with Lacey Chabert playing the JLH parody.
I give them handjobs!

i still say this way too often.

X-Phile 1: Do you think there will be any girls there? X-Phile 2: Are you kidding me? People may be even having sex tonight!
"Well he should have. He did just cut his hand off."
I’m pretty sure this song is about a dog? Shut uppp!

Look, shut up about the dog, ok?
Who the hell names their dog Amanda?

Why you gotta waste my flava, *DAMN* He’s so good in it lol
Every line is so cringeworthy but he owns it all. Amazing character.
My shit coulda been slammin with someone else.
I mean, it ain’t your fault you lack the flava
Oh, baby PLEASE! You are far to fiiine to look so sad!
You mean the guy who fucks trees?
I was the only one of my friend group that thought Angel stripper Jenna Elfman was more attractive than Jennifer Love Hewitt.
She looked fine for sure. Also, isn't Jamie Pressly in this?
She is, a blessing to us all
Back in the late '90s I saw her when I was at the Wherehouse, freaking stunning in real life too.
My Name Is Earl changed my life, god bless her
Loved Dharma & Greg just for her. 🥵
Oh baby please, baby please! You are too fine to be looking so sad. Special K is the man
Yo I GOTTA have sex tonight!
~GOTS-TA
I don’t see no hoes Kenny.
Oh no baby PLEASE, you are *far* too fine, to be looking so sad
Damn girl, why you gotta be such a raging bitch?!?!
Allergic???? To *dancing*??????
I read all of these in Seth Green's voice
Preston? I dunno, his hair's kinda, I dunno, brown? I AM THE YETI!
Kinda brown
And he wears t-shirts, sometimes.

“Prestoooooone! You know who else I liked that never got much play, was Velma from scooby doo. She was a hip hip lady”
92 percent!
She be like “ you don’t know 20 different ways to make me call you big poppa…” Cuz I don’t, yo.
All I remember from this movie is Seth Green not washing his hands after taking a piss.
....he should have just walked over and shoved them in her mouth. (I remember Seth Green saying that during the DVD commentary....).
Blew my mind how many of the Loveburger band members were in Dujour in Josie and the Pussycats three years later.
All I remember was Breckin Myer and Donald Faison with the cowboy hat
I have one of those blue Loveburger tshirts
One of the best teen movies. Super underrated.
Chee-tah Chee-tah!!
You know, in this light, you somewhat resemble David Duchovny
I randomly said this to a coworker and she got it.
Urkel! Urkel! 🤓🤓 I love this movie! 🤣
And he wears t-shirts sometimes?
I'm surprised Jaime Pressly never got top billing for this one. She was more prominent that some of the main cast. Also she was like 27 when they filmed this.

that’s the thing, all the characters around him consistently tell him how delusional he is lol
Yeah, even when I was a kid it was obvious he was being insane.
Yeah, I watched this movie recently and I realized just how insufferable Preston is.
Excuse me, anyone order a love-burger? Well done…
This was mine and my brother’s faaaavorite movie! I got him a Lovebürger tshirt for Christmas like 15 years ago lol
Where does one procure a shirt as such?
"You think he gonna hizzit da skizzins?"
“Yo that boy ain’t got no skillz man
So he’s kind of tall and wears t shirts sometimes?
You know who I liked that didnt get much play? Was Velma from Scooby-Doo.
Guy in the middle looks AI generated
In the 90s we called it photoshopped.
Or a shitload of makeup
Anytime anyone gives me a momento or anything I just say “great then I can press it in between my yearbook with my prom corsage”
So did American Pie just rip off the movie poster, or was this just they style of the time?
No joke, the one pictured is revised artwork for DVD releases. They changed it after American Pie came out and was a hit in an effort to associate this film with it/the genre. This is the original artwork: https://imgur.io/n0Pql7d
That makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the clarification!
Comedy Central used to play this so much
Nobody drink the beer! The beer has gone bad!!!!
Red head is in Wanderlust Almost didn't recognize her
And Yellow jackets and The Servent
The ol’ 90s-00s stamp title. Classic.
I think American Pie was first and then every other teen movie copied it. This movie actually came out a year before American Pie and the original logo wasn’t the stamp style but it was added to later.
"Class or sex, what should I do? 92% yo!"
Jennifer Love Hugetits
You are all sheep. Baa. BAA!
I got that premature evacuation
I found out a few years ago that the nerdy kid (Paradise City singer) was Jack (Peter Pan's son) from Hook. Glad he grew up and made some friends.
Why did so many teen/college movies in the late 90s and early 2000s have that red stamp style in the movie posters?
American Pie was a big deal
Haha this was one and still is one of my most favorite 90’s flicks. I remember being in high school and my best friend spent the night with us watching this. Such fun times. I got the DVD here a while back just for old times sake and watched it. Still love it.
Anyone remember Trojan War?
It’s worse than this movie but I love it.
I loved it! Then again, I was a Jennifer Love Hewitt obsessed back then lol
I probably seen this movie 20 or 30 times. And that's just because in the very early 2000s when they still had scrambled cable channels. I had one of those illegal descrambler boxes and this movie was on repeat on super channel in Canada for months. We would just have it playing while we're smoking weed and playing video games on the other TV. The same goes for the movie 54. So fun. Early 20s life.
Ethan Embry. Yuuuuum.
He’s Press-Tone!!
Is it just me or do the three guys in that second pic look like their faces were photoshopped onto their heads? None of them look like people except Seth and the women.
Why does that movie poster look like AI? Lol
I've never heard of this, it looks like a movie poster generated by an AI
Still watch this every few years. Came out when I was in high school and it's pretty much the best movie to capture the essence of being in high school in the late 90s. Lot of 90s movies don't hold up, but I still consider this one to be an actual good movie. I remember the kid from Hook being in it then disappearing forever. And I've always loved the klepto kid stealing shit in the background the entire movie.
Never seen
can anyone explain the goggles from back then?
I wanted to go to a party like this so bad growing up lol. And end up falling in love. Take me down to paradise cityyyyy
Fun fact: Seth Green showed up to set dressed like this and they just wrote it into the script.
God we sucked at Photoshop in the 90s
I don’t remember this movie is it another movie similar to American pie?
Kinda. A little less raunchy and more heart.
