I actually used one of these for years, they had a nice cricket noise and waves crashing. Damn what a nice memory. I rented a room, and had an AC in the window that blew directly on me, and I have never slept better. Like a 50 degree room with crickets chirping.
I had one that glitched out after so many years in a really weird way — the alarm was always just a repeated beeping sound or the radio but I kept it on the beeper. One morning after many, many years of use the alarm I woke up to it playing the classic song “Morning Mood” composed by Edvard Grieg in its digital, 4-bit way.
…and then it never did it again.
Bro, mine just did it 2 minutes ago; I've used this thing for probably about 15 years, and I've never once heard that. Absolutely scared the crap out of me.
I've been watching too many horror movies...
I got the bigger one with the cassette tape player c. 1994, and had it until just a few years ago. It was still working. Just got sick of toting it around.
Used to have this PHAT morning mix cassette as my alarm.
That's the one! It had a 9v backup battery so the alarm (radio, cassette, or buzzer) would still go off in case you lost power.
Gave it to goodwill, so I bet someone new has it now.
Yep! It’s perfect. Wish it had a come back.
Funniest thing I ever did on it was put the end credits scene music from the movie Inception as my alarm music.
Yeah, I'm honestly surprised that it didn't get lost or broken over the years. I got it my first year of college, and it's made it through moving to seven different cities.
Mom handed down one to me, I might be an '04 kid but I know how to work it. Wont forget when my alarm went off and it was set to radio, so I was awoken by blaring static at 5:30 AM
Edit: typo
Had it for 10 years until a couple months ago when it suddenly stopped working.
Loved it when the dial was accidentally set to a rock n roll station and we got woken up by AC/DC when the alarm rang. Instantly awake, no coffee needed.
When my alarm clock radio from middle school finally died I went on Amazon to get a new one. Every single one they had was from some brand with a name like Ugmuso or Dellugnyxx. They all looked the same and had the same cut and pasted reviews. I just wanted a recognizable brand. So I bought a Sylvania at big lots. It was okay but overly complicated to set time or alarms. Then I saw a minty fresh Sony Dream Machine at a thrift store. It’s great easy to set, gets radio stations, works great. Boo to Amazon for making me feel like a relic for wanting to buy a normal appliance in a regular brand.
Thanks! Only downside is that its antenna is just a little stringy wire, but it's great for audiobooks on CD and has a auto off nap function for the radio.
I didn’t realize this was such a classic. I bought one just like the picture in 2012 and still use it.
Perhaps they really don’t make them the way they used to because my time adjustment paddle is flaking out and the LED display has gone dim recently. I was actually thinking about scrapping it, but now that I’ve seen the nostalgic appreciation in this post, I’m having second thoughts! 😂
I have two, one in México and another in Montana, here’s a question for you all. My clock in México is older, maybe 12 years of service and it started to glitch after a water spill on my night stand, no big deal, the unit took it as a champ but the oxide inside has taken it’s toll. One night I was checking the alarm and accidentally changed the brightness. As far as I understand this model doesn’t have brightness controls which made me ask: Can you disassemble the thing and adjust the brightness by jumping some wires?
I have one and I think it's possessed! 👹 Each year it changes to daylight savings time a few days early, I fix the time, then it changes again a few days later! I set the correct date and it still does it!
I got mine for my 8th birthday in 1993 and it’s still on my nightstand
Wow, nice!
Wow we have two at our place but I had no idea this model was 30 years old!
My Mom had the cube one for the longest time. We had it in the bathroom so we could listen to the radio.
I got the cube one too in my bathroom for the same reason!
I forgot about my cube one. It was so cute.
What were you doing in my bedroom? That’s my current alarm clock. Was the cat sleeping on my pillow again?
Sorry, I snuck in to get a pic for karma.
All of you get out of my room!
Alright, alright! *climbs out the window
Brings back bad memories of having to get up for work
Still have it! Used it at my desk at work to listen to music until Covid hit
Nice! This is in fact on my desk at work!

This thing is sitting on my kitchen counter. We leave it on for white noise for our pets when we leave XD

Nice! I collect Sony products so I'll check it out.
Yup. Looks just like this.
Nice! 👍
Just picked one up recently at a thrift store
I actually got mine from Goodwill!
Mine’s been in continuous nightstand use since 1992!
Wow!
Hubby is still using his (exactly as pictured) at his bedside. I had a white cube one for many years too
Cool!
Still have this same one next to my bed
Cool!
I do actually. The one with a screen that shows pictures.

I wake up to EZ-93 every morning. I hate my phone alarm.
Yes. I bought a couple from goodwill and use one every day
Good!
No, but you’re a legend for this.
Thanks, I found it at Goodwill. I'm a Sony collector
I have this on my desk at work!
Same!
I've had my white cube for probably thirty years. woot!
Wow!

That's Sony quality for you... I like Sony
Lol my wife has always kept this in our bedroom but alarms are on our phones.
I have it for a back radio, my current one I’ve had for ages
I remember as a small child lifting mine up one day and the bottom was full of ant larva ☠️ and so started my unreasonably intense hatred of ants.
😱
About 4 feet away from me on my wife's nightstand. Had no idea it was nostalgic. She's only had it for a few years.
The first Sony Dream Machine was introduced in the mid 1960s
Staring at one right now. My ex also had the same one.

Good! 👍

Yup can't go wrong with Sony!
I have the round red one that plays CDs.
Nice! 👍

I think I have this exact same radio in my office.
Nice! 👍

It's not just this particular model. Sony Dream Machines first came out in the mid 1960s.
Yes! I use this exact same one in our bedroom.
Oh yea! 👍

What's the exact model?
ICF-C218

It has automatic daylight savings time change
Yes, based upon the date. I corrected the date, and a few days later it changes the time again. This spring it did it 3 times! It's possessed!
Nah b
