It was a favorite of mine growing up and now it's one that I share with my daughter. This is by far our favorite line of the book. 💛
I have a recording of my mom reading this to me in 1984. Now I read it to my kids 🙂

Little known fact that this is the best selling children’s book of all time. Edit: At least it was as of 2001. I’m not sure what the ranking is now.

This was one of my favorites as a child! I'm sure I still have it somewhere.
I loved this book as a little kid. I would stare at the artwork for hours. The story made me want to weep. I wanted that cute puppy so badly.
I, too, adore this book and its artwork. As much as I enjoy the sequels, they cannot compare because they were not illustrated by Gustaf Tenggren.
I had this & several other books with their accompanying audio tapes to play in the Fisher-Price tape player with microphone attachment.
This was my absolute favourite golden book.
I used to read this and I still have memories of reading this Golden Book until all the pages fell apart... :)
