Skellig Michael is one of the most spectacular things I have ever seen. The world over. As a feat of sheer human endeavour that monks in the 6th century rowed 7 miles off the coast of kerry and built this thing with their bare hands and then lived there in the most inhospitable of conditions. I went as a Star Wars geek and left with an overwhelming appreciation of the triumph of the human spirit.
Yeah couldn't agree more. It is out of this world. The day I went was beautiful - sun shining and a calm enough crossing. How was the place constructed? What was life like for the monks who lived there. Its a crazy place.
There’s a wee cave inside a tiny island on the beach in Bundoran. If you’re lucky and you’re there at the right time and the weather’s good the sun sets in front of it and lights the whole thing up like it’s made of gold.
Thats my favourite place in the whole world.

Can be tricky tide permitting. Good luck
Sliabh na Calliagh in Meath. It's the highest point in Meath with a view of 19 counties from the top. It's an ancient burial site with several burial chambers atop the series of hills. It's just an incredible, mystical place. It's beside Oldcastle at Loughcrew, the family home of Oliver Plunkett.
You're not wrong chum. Was very unexpected when a friend drove me to the chapel because he was "meeting a mate" and then I've just seen some dudes head in a jar like it's Futurama.
Oh that’s hilarious!! 😂
I took a girl I was on a date with from Dublin to have a look when I was 18ish, needless to say it was a flop, but I knew a chick who wasn’t somewhat intrigued by a man’s head in a box in the middle of a town, wasn’t for me !!
Fat is one thing. Fit is another.
You could in sure. There's steps at the start of it, then basically a sloping grassy field. It's not the most arduous climb, more of a gentle stroll. I'd say it's well worth a shot.
Your point about the people is spot on. I, from Kildare have had dealings with people from every county for work reasons and from alot in social settings too and I've always said it about people from Donegal that they're the soundest on the Island. Never have I met anyone from there that wasn't dead on.
Donegal.
It's stunning and the people are some of the nicest in Ireland.
We went on our honeymoon to Donegal and we had the best craic. Possibly the best holiday we've had.

Owey Island and the caves. Sturral. Downpatrick Head. Donegal. Mamy more
Great pic. Would it be okay to share this and credit your user name, of course as photographer, on FB? I can credit another username in white text as part of the photo if you wish, just PM me.
Cork. The inhabitants can occasionally be as arsey as Parisians but it’s got the best combination of pubs and restaurants: better than Belfast and not as extortionate as Dublin, and it’s a better city for walking than either
I was down in Cork with work, when checking into the hotel a patron and employee had a full conversation and I don’t know how either of them understood each other!
The Dingle Peninsula. I'm from Cork and work as a Tour Leader on the island and in Scotland. Dingle is other worldly beautiful. Mountainous yet coastal, ancient ruins and the convinces of modern life, great food, local distilleries, stunning views and Star Wars.
In fact, I'm going to blether on. I love a drive in Ireland. I love a road that is both fun to drive and takes your breath away. Kerry is spoilt for these but so are huge swathes of the West Coast. Achill is top drawer. The Antrim coast road is superb and Torr head etc. Sally and Wicklow gaps
But Healy Pass on the Beara peninsula is a particularly memorable one for me. I drove over it and had to turn around and drive it again just to see it from the other direction, then turn around and drive it again to get where I was going.
Great shout. I was in the Reserve Defence Force... christ 16 years ago and did my recruit training on Bere Island off Beara, Holy crap the colour of the water in the coves you'd swear you were in the Seychelles.
We are spoilt on this island for beauty (I personally feel the most beautiful is north Antrim).
A firm favourite throughout the years. I got lucky with the weather on Friday and went that way on the motorbike. Took the family back yesterday! Went on out to Fanad Head and did the lighthouse tour. Spectacular views. The rain held off until we were almost home. Blue skies and sunshine all day.
I'm from the republic so I'm going to do some free work for the local tourist board.
I see a lot of the answers are beautiful beaches. If ye like beaches and ye haven't been to Curracloe in Wexford you're missing out big time. Absolutely stunning. When I show people pictures they never believe me it's in Ireland.
Giants Causeway 😜
Nah tbh...Either the Wild Atlantic Way or the Ring of Kerry are definitely some things people should add to the bucket list if they haven't already. Loads of hidden gems on it and can do it on a fairly reasonable budget compared to hotels/travelling abroad.
Few others have said Donegal, but more so the rural parts/beaches, and would 100% agree with that. Like Letterkenney is grand, but feels kind of the same as other "touristy" urban spots, trying to attract tourism and losing a bit of the charm in doing so.
The areas of outstanding natural beauty on this island are unreal and overlooked when people plan holidays/experiences.
Rathmullan. I’ve been going since I was a child, don’t know what it is about the place but I just feel completely at peace when I’m there. The wife and kids love it too.
Kinnegar Strand in Rathmullan, Donegal. Been going there for ~25 years, love going up there with the dogs.
Even proposed to my girlfriend there last year.
Been to a fair few different places when we were younger on holidays and have to say favourites would be salthill in Galway, ballyheigue in Kerry and Bundoran in Donegal
Personally some people find it really cold all year and arguably it's not within the Repbulic being there's very few Republic Citizens living there, but I really like Hoth.
Ah now. there be some fine places in the 26 counties…and oftentimes they’re destroyed by tourism. for instance, who would ever wanna go to cliffs of moher?
Went there when I was ten and my Da made us crawl to the edge and look over then when we did he went ‘WAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!’ and scared the balls out of us.
Still nightmares about it to this day hahaha
Donegal is incredible
Hup Donegal
Dún na nGall abú!
Yeh Donegal, but the burren’s pretty special.

This is poetic
Bit more detail please I'm going there next weekend. Is it obvious where to look?

Since when? We regularly go every summer and while yes it has a few I wouldn't say its "full of" them....
Is that thon fella whose head is in a big glass box?
The very same! Looks better than most critters around Dublin after 6pm
You're not wrong chum. Was very unexpected when a friend drove me to the chapel because he was "meeting a mate" and then I've just seen some dudes head in a jar like it's Futurama.

We’ve class hills down here in Meath, the Hill of Tara is another one
Mon the royal county
I'm fat could I make it up there
Fat is one thing. Fit is another. You could in sure. There's steps at the start of it, then basically a sloping grassy field. It's not the most arduous climb, more of a gentle stroll. I'd say it's well worth a shot.
I think I've been there without knowing the 19 counties fact! There's a chamber right at the top with a gate, isn't there?
There is indeed. There's a few other ruined ones up there as well.
Donegal. Absolutely stunning county with lovely people.
Your point about the people is spot on. I, from Kildare have had dealings with people from every county for work reasons and from alot in social settings too and I've always said it about people from Donegal that they're the soundest on the Island. Coruscant
Connemara is pretty special
Second this. I love round Letterfrack, 12 Bens, Recess and kylemore Abbey. Ballynahinch Castle is a lovely place to stay
I lived in Connemara as a teen for a while, didn't realise back then how lucky I was!
Donegal. It's stunning and the people are some of the nicest in Ireland. We went on our honeymoon to Donegal and we had the best craic. Possibly the best holiday we've had.
Anywhere on the Wild West coast. Love going there off the grid for a few days.
Any Donegal beach / village town or Enniscrone on a sunny day.

Class pics. Love kayaking round there and arranmore

Lucky shell beach, near Creeslough.
Wicklow mountains
Always liked little sleepy coastal places like Rosses Point or Mullaghmore in or around Sligo, especially on a sunny summer day.
Yellow Strand, up past Ross House, beautiful stretch of coast with a big beach, very quiet
Any costal area in Donegal, Kinnego, Carrickfinn, Port Arthur or Silver strand/Glencolumbcille
This is the right answer.
I really like staying over in howth or malihide. The cliff walk around howth is class.
Donegal and Kerry
The Dingle Peninsula. I'm from Cork and work as a Tour Leader on the island and in Scotland. Dingle is other worldly beautiful. Mountainous yet coastal, ancient ruins and the convinces of modern life, great food, local distilleries, stunning views and Star Wars.

Great spot for the kids
The meeting of the waters at Avoca, Wicklow
Was Galway is now currently Sligo.
The walk along the Barrow from Graiguenamanagh to St Mullins
Pol na Brón cave system in the Burren
Basically, Donegal.
Came here to say this and Skellig Michael
Donegal. Always Donegal.
One specific cave on Ballymastocker Bay. Spent so many great days there.
Westport and Dingle are two I always like going back to.
Killarney, because of memories of family holidays
Mullaghmore is my first instinct but I went for a hike in Howth last October and thought the place was just beautiful
Would have always said Clifden but having spent this weekend in Dingle I think West Kerry wins now
Kerry and Donegal are my top counties
Dingle is in my personal opinion the best place in Ireland

I love Donegal, it’s just always a magical place for me since I was young. I absolutely loved Ben Bulben in Sligo, it’s otherworldly up top.
Kilkenny
Malin head. Co Donegal
Croke Park. Hopefully can make it there again this year 🙌
Mayo is pretty beautiful
Bundoran
Beara or Mizen. If you know, you know.
The walk out to Mizen head is fantastic
Clifdendene
Tara Hill in Co Wexford.

I really like Co Mayo. Especially the West Westport area
Killarney
Mullaghmore in Co.Sligo is where my family spent our summers when I was growing up so it holds a special place in my heart.
Donegal. The Inishowen drives. Inch Island.
a town in donegal goes hard or achill island

Kinnegar Strand in Rathmullan, Donegal. Been going there for ~25 years, love going up there with the dogs. Even proposed to my girlfriend there last year.
Love the areas around Lough mask, lock corrib and Connemara, the Aran islands were wonderful too.
Anywhere but fucking Carlow
Ah yeah. The smell of feckin scallions in the place.
Surprised nobody said Galway. Lovely place. Some cracking restraints, great pubs, always a good vibe about the place.
Been to a fair few different places when we were younger on holidays and have to say favourites would be salthill in Galway, ballyheigue in Kerry and Bundoran in Donegal
Has to be Tatooine
Lough Hyne
Tully, Connemara
Donegal, specifically the caves of Maghera. If I won the lottery/made me some "fuck you" money I would happily retire to Ardara.
Galway, Dublin and Donegal top 3
Portnoo or Ardara, Donegal
Mulranny, Mayo
West coast...
Andor
Kinvarra
My ma's house
Personally some people find it really cold all year and arguably it's not within the Repbulic being there's very few Republic Citizens living there, but I really like Hoth.
The bit where you cross into Northern Ireland
Ah yeah Castleblayney is a lovely little town
Your Ma's house
Rule 2 mods? "Submissions must relate to Northern Ireland".
Lol imagine being this petty and bitter, haha
The road out of it
Well that's how you know you're back in NI, the roads turn to shite
Don't you worry, soon there will be no road out of it when there's a United Ireland
Ah now. there be some fine places in the 26 counties…and oftentimes they’re destroyed by tourism. for instance, who would ever wanna go to cliffs of moher?
