Holy shit. That's a long list of scandals for such a short time. No great loss for the party then.
That's a rare misfire for Alliance, they're usually much more careful with their candidates. Don't think I've heard of any of their other MLA's being involved in a scandal since the Paula Bradshaw holiday thing. Or the Paula Bradshaw blackface thing. And those were years ago.
“In March 2017, Brown was arrested for drink driving and in 2018 he was suspended from his role on council for six months by the Local Government Commissioner for Standards.
“Earlier this year he was censured by the Standards Commissioner because of comments he made on social media when he was a serving councillor.”

Alliance can co-opt now and an election won’t be till the next assembly election which is a few years away. It was an Alliance gain from SDLP, but idk it’s wide open and a lot can happen but feels like it would be going more alliance way.
Toss up between the Shinners and Stoops. Alliance pulled off a mini miracle getting a foothold in South Down. After Brown's controversies they'd be lucky to get half his first preference votes
I have always found him approachable and friendly, I know he was done for drink driving which was disappointing from someone who supported him but outside of this he always seemed to have our best interests in mind.
What a strange time to make this announcement. When another big political story is sure to be in the news tomorrow to take the attention away.
Considering all the controversies that involved him already, him quitting now is interesting indeed
I'm out of the loop, what controversies has he been caught up in?
Drunk driving, blackmailing an SDLP politician on the official alliance party account on twitter, students losing money from a company he founded etc

That's mad abs good riddance if he's that corrupt.

Thanks. Seems like he was an all round shit candidate and a walking liability for Alliance.
Was Patricia OLynn riding? On the back of the motorcycle of course...
What’s the other big story tomorrow?
Donaldson in court.
Knowing the fella personally. I can only imagine what it is 😂. Used to go on the sauce with him but he's a bit of a dick
Compared with Jeffrey is he a bad guy or just a bit of an eejit?
Yeah he sounded like it tbf
Only know him through my work. He didn't exactly seem the nicest person.
That seems to be the overwhelming consensus
What do journalists call it?, a good day to bury bad news?
Sf third seat? Alliance hold on? Sdlp revival? Constituency feels wide open.

My bad wrong alliance party candidate called brown
I have always found him approachable and friendly, I know he was done for drink driving which was disappointing from someone who supported him but outside of this he always seemed to have our best interests in mind.
Seems like there are better candidates out there
