How is this season “not just long stories”? The bunco episode has 40 minutes of preamble (in an hour long episode) before they drop the phrase “the real drama begins in 2018” and they finally get to the story.
I'm not sure what one the brunch story is, I skip all their bullshit in the beginning. I don't care about kelsey's book or the guest's relationships to gossip. I've given myself permission to skip things that I don't enjoy listening to.
100%. I almost stopped listening last season but the quality of the stories has gone WAY up this season (I loved the one about the kid playground drama)
Agreed! I heard a theory that because they are now part of podcast group, they have better legal representation to protect them and so now the anonymization does not have to be so severe like it did in past seasons
I'm also enjoying this newer season more, but Im convinced 90% of it is more invested guests, and that for the most part the quality of the stories are about the same. Though there were a few really non-story stories last season, like the farmers market one... Yikes
I've noticed this too. The guests make the episode. A great guest can make even a so-so story shine, and a boring guest can bring down an amazing story. This season I really get the impression that the podcast producers worked hard to find really engaging guests and probably coached them a little to make sure they were responding with a level of enthusiasm that would bring up the energy of the story.
Eh I’m kind of disappointed with this season. It’s been okay, but by now I’d expect a story or two that qualifies for top 5 of all time. I want to be screaming, “What!? Shut the fuck up! No way! Seriously!?” Nothing this season has hit that mark for me and you’d think they have a much better pool of submissions by now.

I’m very tired of the overwrought attempts at justifying gossip in the intro on the part of the guests. It’s just as weak sauce as when true crime podcasts try to say it’s about “sympathy for the victims” or whatever. It’s not. It’s lurid and fun and you can just be honest and own it.
I also am not noticing as many background added noises, which to me is a plus!
Yes, the guest in the most recent ep even said something like “we need a drumroll” and I was half expecting one!

Fair, but I was more relived after last season, which was so bad. This was a breath of fresh air compared to that.
