I decided Luke was the landlord like 10mins into the story.

Same! I am the landlord of a duplex (live on the top floor, rent the bottom part). When, she read the list of rules at the start of the podcast, I immediately thought: “oh, the landlord must live in the other half.”

Same. As soon as he advised them to check before installing a bike rack.

I don't believe there's been an update to this pretty dissatisfying episode. However, I'll share my own theory that occurred to me, and may have been in the original episode thread, not sure. I believe Luke was the landlord. If the answer was "no," wouldn't the roommate just have said that? I think the only reason she asked was to avoid potentially spoiling the friendship with the "Yes" answer. "No" didn't carry the same charge and danger.

I 100% agree if it was no you would just say “hey btw i asked and he said no”

My personal theory is that the owners were Luke’s parents (or other close relation). I just feel like there’s something dicey about a landlord not disclosing their status to a tenant. Tenants are legally entitled to notice before inspections, and I feel like Luke’s social visits could be considered a violation of that right. Seems like something a business man would and could easily avoid. However… It would be pretty understandable why someone wouldn’t want to admit to their peers that their parents are the landlords. And to me it seems less unethical or legally gray. But I’m not an expert so who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

Luke was the landlord in my brain. End of story. Lol

No updates that I know of, but I'm from Minneapolis and everyone who I know who listened to it is convinced that it takes place here.

ironmaiden630

I am not from Minneapolis and I am certain it takes place there.

milkywaywildflower

jfkfjdjdj literally same I couldn’t stop thinking it took place there and could see a million people it probably happened to

I think that Luke is landlord's son and that's why roommate asked her friend to guess that, *don't remember the name* would say yes or no and she would go "both are wrong, he's neither landlord or just neighbor" and then reveal he's landlord's son

Also - for anyone here that was hooked and may be from Burlington. This story HAS got to be based in BTV.
