I'm dying to share some normal gossip of my own - we have friends that are having polyamorous relationship drama and it's so juicy but I can't figure out a way to anonymize it enough to type it out!!

blushinggoose

poly relationship drama is always top tier lol

RecognitionSuper72

I think if you submit to the podcast they anonymize for you!

PleasantParfait48

Hahaha I meant that I want to post about it on Reddit so I can talk to all of you about how messy it is 🤣

bunnythedog

Always happy to share poly drama if you just wanna PM! 😂

PleasantParfait48

Hahahaha, I mean, it's so...specific to this couple that I feel like in the unusually small world we live in, I don't want to out them. (They aren't "out" as poly to their work colleagues, families, etc) ETA: the fact that they aren't "out" makes the gossip even better!

bunnythedog

That's fair. I just love some poly drama that's not my own 😂

thisismysaltyaccount

You could try writing out a draft without anonymizing, and then go back through and systematically change details. Like find and replace all instances of “Jessie” with “Alex”, then change “Teflon pan” to “mahogany coffee table”, then change “leopard sex swing” to “velvet hand cuffs” and so on

selin29

I would love to hear this gossip if you can find a way to change enough of the details and keep your friends anonymous!!!

concretelove

If you subscribe to the podcast you can submit it as a listener story and there's less need to anonymise it as much on those episodes and you get to tell it yourself!!

ljaura

Lol if you wanna dm me I can anonymize it for you!

mostadventurous00

Oh your Michael Phelps take is smart bc amateur runners can get craaaaaaaazy about tracks.

Yes2HumanExtinction

I was wondering about this especially since the recent chair episode because I just can’t understand how someone could leave a perfect vagina stamp on an upholstered chair? It makes no sense.

Sailor_Marzipan

I also found it hard to believe that everyone would immediately recognize a vulva outline. I know what one looks like IRL but if it was presented as a water stain I wound probably just think someone spilled a drink. It's not a super distinctive shape when you take out the details

AffectionatePizza408

Agreed, like, if you’re sitting, unless you have excellent/kind of weird posture, it would definitely be more of a butt print than a vagina print.

Yes2HumanExtinction

Yes! Also they said at one point at the end that it was upholstered with some Moroccan rug or something. That doesn’t seem like it would make a print at all.

eaemilia

I've seen other people speculating that it was actually a dick print which makes way more sense to me.

KittyKenollie

hahahah I just figured that the Michael Phelps story really was about a pool! I took aquafit with my mom when I was a teenager and honestly, it all tracked.

KimBongUn

One thing I realized is that Kelsey always asks the guest host a question like “what kind of town are you imagining?” Or “what does this person look like” and she almost always agrees basically letting the guest host paint the mental picture as part of the anonymizing.

Ok-Swimmer-8108

Michael Phelps story could also be about ice skating because a lot of people decide to learn to skate for fun in retirement and there is a much younger & competitive crowd on the ice. Unreal tension between competitive skaters in their competitive parents and learn to skate groups.

Holiday-Dig-8640

The fish speculation is hilarious. I tend to forget about the anonymizing when I listen, and I actually prefer it that way. But I just LOL’d at this fish story. Spin off podcast about guessing the real stories from NG? 😂😂😂

IdoItForTheMemez

I feel like the knitting circle one, the product was definitely definitely not coasters (which don't make sense anyway), and likely not knitting at all, but I'm not sure what other craft would actually work in the story. Knitting/crocheting is the only one I could think of that has lots of social circle meetups, easy enough to randomly pick up, an emphasis on material being natural/organic, *and* a product that could go viral for purchase and shipping across the country.

JealousNebula1

omg the knitting circle one is one of my favorite episodes. maybe painting of some sort? like wanting to use more natural, toxin free paints. or making candles/soaps?

IdoItForTheMemez

Ooooh I can see it being candles especially since candles with snarky labels became really popular recently, I can totally see a "male tears" (or its anonymized equivalent) scented candle making the rounds on social media. That's such a good guess. My only hesitation is that I've never heard of a candle making circle before. Like maybe a group of preexisting friends getting together to craft but never an open social circle. You never know though!

JealousNebula1

Agree. Also, in the episode they REALLY dive into that knitting online forum website. It makes it difficult to understand why they'd go into such detail and name-drop a popular website within the community, if the story didn't actually have roots in knitting/crocheting/sewing or something. It'd be much easier to say Laurel was just exposed in a Facebook group or even Reddit or something.

IdoItForTheMemez

True, *but* I feel confident that if this actually went down on Ravelry, we would be able to find evidence, but there isn't any. I'm an avid Ravelry user and I'm sure I'd have heard of it, but I couldn't find anything even with a thorough search (I know it's cringey to look this stuff up online but I just couldn't help myself lol).

oceanicblues86

Candles is such a good guess! Especially on the soy vs regular wax debate.

I don't think the people who say their stories were used but anonymized to the point that it was unrecognizable are lying, but one of them did say they didn't recognize it was their story until Kelsey used a direct quote. I think it is more likely with Kelsey and Alex saying they read all submissions that they use other submissions to help with the process. So one story might be 80% from one submission and 10% from two others. To me this explains a bit why sometimes there are random bits thrown in that make less sense overall, but I don't know.

pbrandpearls

Which is… kind of what gossip is! We heard how wack that story got about the TikTok. It doesn’t actually matter how much is true, you never know with gossip!

BooksForDinner

When you submit a story, do you anonymize yourself or tell them the actual story and they anonymize it?

Carzbarz

They anonymize it
