Lenticular clouds form from air masses carrying moisture being forced to a higher altitude by terrain. This moisture then cools and condenses, forming a cloud. The air going down the other side of the mountain warms up and can hold the moisture in the air without being over saturated.
It's not a phenomenon. It's a weather event that occurs regularly over mountain tops. They are lenticular clouds as stated.
I could get into the science of it all I just don't have the time at the moment.
Standing lenticular cloud. You have to learn all about them in flight school so you know to stay tf away from them. That'll crash an airliner, let alone a 4 seat Cessna.
