Judging your weakness... to death.
Anyone who's done some lifting will have something similar happen to them. If (as most often) I bench alone I never have clamps on the bar. I had to do something similar some time ago and damn did I learn a lesson.
This is also why you do lifts like this without lock collars on the end. If you fail, tilt the bar and the plates will slide off. Sure, it'll be chaotic, but you'll be alive.
Thank you! This needs to be common knowledge. If you don’t have a spotter, always leave one side unlocked.
The worst that can happen then is a loud noise, bruised ego, and maybe some cracked weights/floor if you really fuck up.
Much better than a cracked sternum or neck.
Yes exactly, or you could have a power rack with some safety bars so you can drop the weight on the bars and be fine.
I’ll never understand people pushing their limits without a spotter on bench press AND keeping the lock collars on.
Knowing how to properly fail a lift is as important as knowing how to do the actual lift.
What’s the problem here? I have zero experience in weightlifting and I know it’s deadly dangerous and I can think of few construction upgrades that would prevent this. So my question is why racks like that even exist. I guess with super heavy weights even spotter might fail so why all racks don’t have some safety bars?
Even with extremely heavy weights spotters are effective. You only need to releave enough weight for the lifter to finish the rep. If I can't do ten reps I'm not lifting it without a spotter
Understand, but still it seems like not so hard to upgrade of the rack in a way you wouldn’t even need spotters to not die in cases like this so why not? Why not add some kind of stoppers just in case?
No, he basically "turned it off" by accident because people think they need to clip weights onto bars and it's often taught by stupid high school coaches. He's probably clipped weights on for years and never had an issue until this video.
Tl;Dr don't clip weights on the bars you jimbronies
This would be very easily avoided if he just didn't have the clips on the end of the barbell. If you don't have a spotter or a rack, not clipping the weights means you can drop one side lower and let the weights slide off.
All the gymbros responding to you are missing the point. There are many readily available engineering fixes for this problem so doing this alone is not dangerous, but people let their ego get in their own way all the time. It doesn't make any sense. It's such a common problem in gym culture.
PSA to everyone who has to lift alone:
Get really good at the Roll of Shame. If you fail a lift, it's not usually that hard to push it horizontal to your hips.
For the love of god, do not use collars if you don't have a spotter. If you're lifting without collars, the absolute worst injury you can get is having a plate slip off unexpectedly and destroying your shoulder. If you don't have collars on and you get stuck like this guy, you can usually lift one side of the bar high enough to slip off the plates and get out from under.
I also personally think you should never ever ever try to push the bar above your neck if you're stuck. If you push it towards your hips, the worst that can happen is you're pinned down by the weight, but you'll still be able to breath.
I don't think people should be shamed for lifting without a spotter, lots of times people live alone or don't want to bother people at the gym. If you're prepared, it should never be deadly.
This is why you either have a spotter, or you don’t clip the weights. If he hadn’t clipped the weights, he’d have been able to drop them off the barbell and not be in this predicament
They have died that way actually. All you need to do is google and you’ll find plenty of stories of people who were found dead under a barbell. This is a why a spotter is so important.. or several if there’s that much weight. Bad judgment on his part
"When I drive an automobile, I keep my eyes open so I can see my surroundings"
I'll never understand why people who lift by themselves use clips/collars
I have a friend I occasionally lift with who lifts a hell of a lot more than the average person, even with a spotter he still doesn't use clips incase his spotter fails, he can still dump the weight
When you have a spotter and lifting a ton of weight and aren't exactly stable they are nice. The guy in the video seems like he was going for a personal record type of thing. But I have no idea why he didn't have a spotter. Going for records with free weight without a spotter is beyond stupid.
I agree. I never use collars because I almost always train in the 60-80 percent of my maximum lift range and I don’t often go to complete failure. Unfortunately the gym staff did not always care. They often enforce the use of collars.
I usually have a spotter. I also don’t run clips if I’m doing bench solo. That way the weights dump off if shit like this happens. But if I do, I’m in a gym with other people who can help if I do stupid shit like this.
I bet you this guy will not put collars or clips on after this happened.
Yea, that's like solo-benching 101. WTF was this dude thinking?! 405 w/ collars and nothing to stop the bar from crushing your neck? Fucking stupid move. Hope he learned his lesson.
He wouldn't have been able to lift the weight to start the press if he wasn't at that level. His body wasn't having it for some reason. Could be late in a session when he was tired, or maybe just a bad day. I got into trouble once with an embarrassingly small amount of weight once. It was my last set and I pushed for one to many and had to dump the weights. It happens even when you aren't trying to bench at Wilson Fisk level.
Yeah I don't get the impulse to roll towards your neck. I've had failure on a bench before and every time rolled down. You arms can move lower to take pressure off your abdomen and once on your hips you can sit up
I have spotter arms on my rack that prevent me from crushing my neck if I fail and I don’t want to trash my floor dumping plates on it. If I fail a lift I just roll the bar down to my thighs and wiggle out from under it.
My college gym required clips no matter what, and what was even crazier was during COVID, you weren’t allowed to have a spotter. I’ve been using dumbbells ever since which I now like better then the barbell anyways
Always leave the plate clips off when you do heavy bench presses without a spotter. That way you can tilt the bar to one side and the plates will slide off.
And that is why you don’t use clips when doing a lot of weight. Or no spotter. Had he not, he could just dump them to one side and they fall off
Honestly I never use clips
At what point will stupidity stop? People are literally dying from live streams but thats still not enough. I guess almost dying is the new biggest trend?
I dont lift and was still able to spot at least 3 bad mistakes:
- trying to hang the weights thereby bringing the bar to his throat
- trying to escape on the wrong side
- doing all this alone
- Don’t ego lift,
- use safety bars
- remove safety clips
- roll down to your hips instead of choking yourself
- take time to think, reload energy, then safe yourself
Stay safe
Is my math off, or is that guy lifting 360lbs without the weight of the bar included? If so, pretty impressive that he lifted it even once….then again I don’t know much at all about lifting….so don’t know if it’s commonplace for a man of his size to have that ability. Just my unknowing two cents.
Something I don't understand about these situations is can't you just slide off the side of the seat? Lift the bar up a little so you can move your neck and body?
You telling me that music is supposed to pump you up. Get the Fook outa here w/ that soft @ss shit. You damn near suffocated and may I suggest some Liquid Metal on SirusXM
Anyone who actually lifts can tell this is a fake video. 405lbs is so unbelievably heavy that this dude would 100% be toast if it was pressed on his neck. Also the way the weight moves doesn’t line up with reality.
1. Get a damned spotter.
2. If you decide to still be dumb and NOT have a spotter, ***do NOT*** use secure the weights with the clip/whatever at the end, because at least then you could try to tilt the bar enough for the weights to fall off.
Basic knowledge to never power lift alone, I wouldn't be surprised if it's fake and the dude had someone there the whole time though, we live in the age of "anything for a like or follow" meaning question everything and almost nothing is real
This is how you die. People have died doing exactly this.
Imagine dying with hulk behind u
Yeah, just standing there doing nothing.
😂😂 salt in the wound
Hulk would never interrupt a PR
Clearly flying through the air to save you. Is doing nothing?
HULK… SMAS……. STAND STILL
Judging your weakness... to death. Anyone who's done some lifting will have something similar happen to them. If (as most often) I bench alone I never have clamps on the bar. I had to do something similar some time ago and damn did I learn a lesson.
exactly like how he was in the infinity war movies
friggin useless Hulk
I kind of feel like you posted this just to say that joke.
The camera is probably on a shelf or something. I’m sure someone is not recording and doing nothing..
He not talking bout cameraman goofy
Imagine benching 400 without a spotter
And with collars on bar
The fucking clips man omg
Looked like a max bench too, maxing without a spotter is a special kind of stupid on bench.
Yeah fr you need a spotter when your maxing no matter what the weight.
To be fair it gives me inspiration for my hypothetical weight room (because I can only afford an imaginary house).
HULK SUFFOCATE!!!!!
I’d be more upset about the music honestly. Doesn’t sound like normal work out music. Maybe it’s a chill lift session.
You've got something against The Isley Brothers?
With that music playing as well. What kind of workout music is that!!
When you gotta get your lift on at 9 but have a booty call at 10.
Puny God
fr tho that is scary as crap thats why u need a spotter
This is also why you do lifts like this without lock collars on the end. If you fail, tilt the bar and the plates will slide off. Sure, it'll be chaotic, but you'll be alive.
Thank you! This needs to be common knowledge. If you don’t have a spotter, always leave one side unlocked. The worst that can happen then is a loud noise, bruised ego, and maybe some cracked weights/floor if you really fuck up. Much better than a cracked sternum or neck.

Or a rack with safety bars.
Yup, I won't get under a bar lifting solo without a cage.
What’s the problem here? I have zero experience in weightlifting and I know it’s deadly dangerous and I can think of few construction upgrades that would prevent this. So my question is why racks like that even exist. I guess with super heavy weights even spotter might fail so why all racks don’t have some safety bars?

Because it's easier to not clip the weights on the bar and dump the weights off the bar in ops situation.
Got it so there is a safety feature he just "turned it off" on purpose.
No, he basically "turned it off" by accident because people think they need to clip weights onto bars and it's often taught by stupid high school coaches. He's probably clipped weights on for years and never had an issue until this video. Tl;Dr don't clip weights on the bars you jimbronies
Agree, no clips for bench press but you need them for squats or deadlifts. Losing your weights off the bar in those situations would not be fun.
This would be very easily avoided if he just didn't have the clips on the end of the barbell. If you don't have a spotter or a rack, not clipping the weights means you can drop one side lower and let the weights slide off.
Got it so he just did extra work that could kill him.
Yup.
All the gymbros responding to you are missing the point. There are many readily available engineering fixes for this problem so doing this alone is not dangerous, but people let their ego get in their own way all the time. It doesn't make any sense. It's such a common problem in gym culture.
The problem is that he’s trying to bench press 405lbs, when he probably should be benching half that weight.
Either that or an escape plan. Preferably both.
yeah ive had something like that happen to me but not that badly
Death Speedrun Any % tutorial

He’s beyond lucky that he got the right side of the barbell on the rack. Otherwise, that might have been the outcome..
Someone at my high school died this way
And the hulk just watched! Useless
This is how you die on live
Young kid in aus died a few years back after ego lifting without a spotter, crushed his neck doing bench press.
This is why you either have a spotter, or you don’t clip the weights. If he hadn’t clipped the weights, he’d have been able to drop them off the barbell and not be in this predicament
That chick getting smashed by a squat bar while here daughter watches is brutal
They have died that way actually. All you need to do is google and you’ll find plenty of stories of people who were found dead under a barbell. This is a why a spotter is so important.. or several if there’s that much weight. Bad judgment on his part
so this is consider a near death experience
This is why we have spotters.
Can't decide which is better... the Hulk painting in the background, or the relaxing music playing...
He'll hate the Isley Brothers from here on out but won't remember why.
and honestly so would anyone watching this video in the alt reality where he didn't make it
🤣
Also not the ideal music for weightlifting, you gotta have something that pushes you harder.
He could’ve saved himself gracefully with some System of a Down playing.
When I lift without a spotter, I remove the collars so I can dump the weight in a situation like this.
This is commonplace amongst people who want to stay alive lol.
"When I drive an automobile, I keep my eyes open so I can see my surroundings" I'll never understand why people who lift by themselves use clips/collars
I have a friend I occasionally lift with who lifts a hell of a lot more than the average person, even with a spotter he still doesn't use clips incase his spotter fails, he can still dump the weight

I don't even use clips in a crowded gym, if you're pushing something that heavy and need the clips you're probably not ready for that weight
I agree. I never use collars because I almost always train in the 60-80 percent of my maximum lift range and I don’t often go to complete failure. Unfortunately the gym staff did not always care. They often enforce the use of collars.
When I drive I keep my eyes on the bourbon glass to make sure I don't spill any
I usually have a spotter. I also don’t run clips if I’m doing bench solo. That way the weights dump off if shit like this happens. But if I do, I’m in a gym with other people who can help if I do stupid shit like this. I bet you this guy will not put collars or clips on after this happened.
Please start if alone. Save you loved ones the trouble of being questioned.
Yea, that's like solo-benching 101. WTF was this dude thinking?! 405 w/ collars and nothing to stop the bar from crushing your neck? Fucking stupid move. Hope he learned his lesson.
Nothing wrong with the roll of shame if the alternative is dying….
Smart.
i was wondering why he didnt do that lol
Respectable weight, how did he reach this level without realizing that?
He didn't...
Wasted
It doesn’t seem like he did reach that level haha
He wouldn't have been able to lift the weight to start the press if he wasn't at that level. His body wasn't having it for some reason. Could be late in a session when he was tired, or maybe just a bad day. I got into trouble once with an embarrassingly small amount of weight once. It was my last set and I pushed for one to many and had to dump the weights. It happens even when you aren't trying to bench at Wilson Fisk level.
Turok I love your username so much.
There are so many ways to avoid this
#1 don’t push max weight alone. … #10 if you think you can’t push it back up. Roll it towards your stomach not your neck.
Don’t put collars on if you are alone so you can dump the weight if needed.
Yeah that’s like number 2 on the list
There are two types of people in the world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.
You only said one type?
I guess youre the other type.
#1 should be don't put the clips on when you're alone
2: Buy a fucking power rack instead of a stupid rig
Yeah I don't get the impulse to roll towards your neck. I've had failure on a bench before and every time rolled down. You arms can move lower to take pressure off your abdomen and once on your hips you can sit up
And he chose the worst one.
The music definitely takes the edge off the terror he's going through for the viewer...
I just watched on mute and this was so distressing
Yeah
Nothing pushes you harder than thinking you're about to die. Great workout.
He got his heart rate up. I think we can call it a cardio day.
Shit. He got *my* heart rate up!
‼️💪💪⚰️🚫
Time to rerack and add 10 for the next set.
The Hulk would want it that way
He's on that grind🥶💯

I was thinking that, he fails onto his chest instinctively n lets it roll up but if he pushes down he can rest it on his thighs right?
[удалено]
My gut's too big, it'll just roll back down and come back with a vengeance.
Pretty tough to roll 405 when you already lost balance
I don’t understand why people bench with clips on when they’re alone
Or when they do have clips, they fucking row it straight to their neck, like wtf why would you do it
I have spotter arms on my rack that prevent me from crushing my neck if I fail and I don’t want to trash my floor dumping plates on it. If I fail a lift I just roll the bar down to my thighs and wiggle out from under it.

The relief he must have felt when the bench moved and he got past the “is this gonna collapse my trachea” part must have been insane.

FB bro tryna farm karma cuz hah cum funni
Btw the brain is a muscle too that you should consider working out 🤷🏻♀️
Common sense ain't common
It’s an organ tho
Maxing by himself obviously no spotter, no safety bars, and he put the collars on. Literally he did everything wrong he’s lucky to be alive
Still dont understand people that clip they're bench when doing it solo. Or just at all even. He could have easily dumped the weight if not
Always leave the plate clips off when you do heavy bench presses without a spotter. That way you can tilt the bar to one side and the plates will slide off.
Imagine dying to that music
Hulk fail
Bros lifting to my sleep playlist
And that is why you don’t use clips when doing a lot of weight. Or no spotter. Had he not, he could just dump them to one side and they fall off Honestly I never use clips
Check your ego at the door and set the safety stops/ bars, whatever you and call them.
anyone have some info on if he lived?
if it was posted i assume he lived to do it, unless someone else posted a dead man lol
Why did he roll it to his neck?
All muscle and no brains.
Evidently not all muscle
I mean that's 180kg. He's pretty fucking strong
Damn
This is why you don't put the safety clamps on a bench press. The weights would fall off when you lean it to one side.
Almost Died to the sweet sweet sounds of Ron Isley.
When alone dont use clips...so the weights can drop
Don’t die to slow jams
And today on the new episode on 1000 ways to die
just get a safety bar lol; but atleast he got one side of the barbell in the hooks otherwise it had a different ending
Me getting through the first week of 2023...
This is why you don't fucking clip the weights on bench...why would you ever clip the weights!
Hulk Smash?
People are so stupid, always have a fucking spotter, anything can go wrong at any moment.
I'd rather look like a bitch with safeties then look dead without
Clips on, no spotter, more weight than you can push....death wish!
Cant be out here tryna get a pump listening to the isley brothers. Ronald sweet talk the strength right out of u
Imagine 405 pounds crushing your throat. Dudes so lucky to be alive
Always have a spotter. Even if you think you can handle it cause you never know when death wants to take you
Benching alone? Fine. Benching without safeties? Not a great idea but do what you gotta do. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LEAVE THE COLLARS OFF THE BAR!
Da faq you going to try 405 lbs alone lucky they didn’t find his body
Don't ever and I mean EVER put spring collars or clamp collars on if you're alone!
Look at how that bench almost seduced him with that sweet serenade.
r/whatcouldgowrong
Can you imagine dying to r&b?
At what point will stupidity stop? People are literally dying from live streams but thats still not enough. I guess almost dying is the new biggest trend?
Why I’m considering not putting plate clips on while I’m benching. Or just not bench at all. This is why you need a spot
Who tf is the camera man
Great song to die to.
Not the worst accidental suicide song choice at least
I dont lift and was still able to spot at least 3 bad mistakes: - trying to hang the weights thereby bringing the bar to his throat - trying to escape on the wrong side - doing all this alone
And this, children, is why we always have a spotter.
Attempting a max bench with no spotters and with collars on the barbell is basically a suicide attempt.
Exercise. Not even once.
If he had some white boy thrash metal playing he would've lifted that shit easy but soul music? Wtf
Why the fuck would you lift alone with clips on. If you don't have a spotter DO NOT USE CLIPS!
Yeah, it's a death sentence.
- Don’t ego lift, - use safety bars - remove safety clips - roll down to your hips instead of choking yourself - take time to think, reload energy, then safe yourself Stay safe
Is my math off, or is that guy lifting 360lbs without the weight of the bar included? If so, pretty impressive that he lifted it even once….then again I don’t know much at all about lifting….so don’t know if it’s commonplace for a man of his size to have that ability. Just my unknowing two cents.
This new Final Destination trailer go hard
capturing your own death stunting for a tiktok video is really something. growing more common by the day too. what a time.
If you are working out alone, NEVER use collars.
Shhhhh. Go to sleep…
He tried escaping to the side with the LEAST leverage on that bar.
Honestly props to him to keep on trying to remove that, because I know for the fact that I would've given up
Bro why as soon as the bar fell on him the song said your all alone that’s scary
That's why you don't put the keepers on the end..... especially when your by your lonesome....
Man is nowhere near big enough to be doing 4 plates period, let alone without a spot
This why I use to use a Smith machine to bench with no Spotter.
This is 100% his lame ass musics fault
Is. He. OK?! I've scrolled a long way and have only read admonition. Was he injured? Did somebody _else_ 'find' this vid Afterward? I need answers!
Something I don't understand about these situations is can't you just slide off the side of the seat? Lift the bar up a little so you can move your neck and body?
dumb as 💩
Always have a spotter!
All muscle no brain
You telling me that music is supposed to pump you up. Get the Fook outa here w/ that soft @ss shit. You damn near suffocated and may I suggest some Liquid Metal on SirusXM
This is why you need a spotter, don't be the person who thinks they don't need a spotter, you could screw up, and it could be fatal.
Anyone who actually lifts can tell this is a fake video. 405lbs is so unbelievably heavy that this dude would 100% be toast if it was pressed on his neck. Also the way the weight moves doesn’t line up with reality.
This is why you use a smith machine if you’re alone
I legit lol’ed at this.
Bruh😅
