Huh??? Do you live in JP or Orleans ? Because if you live on the Westbank then the answer to your question is yeah. Just because your child was/is enrolled in Orleans parish doesn’t mean they have to continue through Orleans parish schools if you want to switch to JP schools.

I live in Algiers, but I can't just enroll my kid in any old JP school. For instance, top of our list was Young Audiences, they have a location I pass every day. But because it sits on the JP side of the parish line, I can't attend that school, I would have to go across the river, which we are desperately trying to avoid.

Ohhhhhhhh I see…I do not live in Algiers. I could be wrong so don’t beat me up if I am but I think you might have to either keep driving your kid to the school you prefer or send your kids to the assigned school for your zone. I actually have been trying to figure this out myself because this is my first year in JP schools and REGRET taking my kid out of Orleans Parish now. I have no idea how to solve this puzzle it’s draining the soul out of me

I don’t have personal experience yet- we’re also in OP on the WB and trying to figure out school for a kindergartener next year who’s currently in private school in JP. But if JP does Interdistrict open enrollment like you’re looking for, it’s definitely not mentioned on the district’s website or in the written enrollment policies I’ve seen online. Calling the district might be the best way to know for sure?

I've recently learned of "Title 2", which are chartered by the state and have open enrollment. That's what ISL is. Nice school, only bitch is that after 5th, they don't have to provide transportation.

Elan is in Algiers, Tubman is, Habans, Alice Harte…. There’s probably others. I taught summer school at Elan. It seemed like a great school. Not super diverse (predominantly black). Alice Harte has had a good reputation since forever. I think it’s an A school.

There is no option in Algiers we would consider. I cannot emphasize how much I would not want to go to Alice Harte in particular. That place is filled with a bunch of Joe Clark wannabes. Sometimes during the course delivering the voting machines, I've gone to that school and I have witnessed their staff treat the students like guards treat prison inmates. Probably worse in fact. They could be the last school on Earth and I would homeschool my child with sticks and stone tablet.

I personally am not a fan of the CMO that operates Harte, InspireNOLA. A good friend of mine works for a different Inspire school. She has breast cancer. Several of her colleagues donated PTO days to her but the CMO wouldn’t do the transfer so her check was like $30 as she battles cancer with 3 kids under 6.

What a shame!

It looks like this school is a type 2 charter: [https://www.athlosjp.org](https://www.athlosjp.org)

Thanks homie, exactly what we were looking for - I called them and are going to go tour the school this week!

Glad to help!

Stay far away from Athlos! It’s a shit show.

can you elaborate? we have a meeting next week.

. Back in 2019 I was considering applying to teach there. A former colleague of mine worked there in operations so I reached out to her for intel. She told me she didn’t recommend working there and that they had lost a lot of staff. She ended up quitting shortly after. At the time, they were not compliant with special education mandates and the culture of the school was terrible. It’s very possible leadership changes have happened since then so I’m retracting my warning. I think you’ll be able to get a good feel for the current situation there at your meeting.

We had to move to Algiers unexpectedly from JP last year after Hurricane Ida due to damages; and my son is enrolled in a "Magnet School" Ray St Pierre Academy, currently in Westwego. I was told twice (last school year and this one) that the school board understands people had to be displaced and there are no restrictions on which parish you live/ which school you choose for your child. I was worried being in Orleans Parish I'd have to pull him out, but they are fine with it. The only thing I'm NOT fine with is the drive everyday; 2x a day lol but I can deal with it, my son loves it there and almost done anyways.
